"It's the Jimmy Blair accordion orchestra" Ant stated as he and Dec waited for the coach to arrive at the Edinburgh venue.

"Never heard of them" Dec frowned.

"They're world famous apparently" Ant pointed out.

"Really?" Dec asked surprised "why are they entering Britain's Got Talent if they're so famous then?"

"Guess they want to be even more well known" Ant shrugged.

"Still never heard of them" Dec replied.

"Well,I guess that's because you're not into accordion music" Ant laughed.

"Do you know who they are then?" Dec asked.

"Nope" Ant replied "just wish they'd bloody hurry up,I'm freezing my balls off out here"

"Yeah,me too" Dec frowned "Scotland in January ain't exactly warm"

"No,definitely not" Ant laughed.

"Looks like they're here" Dec announced as a blue and white coach appeared from around the corner.

"Thank God for that" Ant replied relieved as he rubbed his hands together in a feeble attempt to warm himself up.

Ant and Dec had been instructed to stand to one side as all the members of the orchestra disembarked from the coach, then have a quick chat with Gary, the choral leader and son of the founder of the choir,Jimmy Blair.

All was going to plan as Ant and Dec watched each member pass by after they stepped off of the coach and the boys greeted them with a friendly hello or hi.

"That's a little one" Dec announced as a young girl carrying her accordion walked past.

Finally, everyone except Gary had got off of the coach.

"Cue Gary" the director called out.

As Gary started to come down the coach steps,he suddenly slipped, but just about managed to keep himself upright by grabbing onto the door.

"Who's this then?" Ant asked in his friendly manner as Gary approached him to shake his hand.

"We're the Jimmy Blair accordion orchestra" Gary replied, just as Dec couldn't control himself anymore and collapsed into fits of laughter.

Everyone who knew Dec,knew once he got the giggles,it would go on for ages and nothing could be done about it.

Dec didn't know why he found Garys little stumble so funny. He just knew that he did.

"I'm sorry" he giggled as Ant,Gary and the film crew laughed along with him.

"Take two" the director called out "cue Gary"

As Gary shook Ants hand and introduced his group once again,Dec couldn't stop another fit of giggles coming on.

"I'm sorry,I'm sorry" Dec howled with laughter.

"Aww,come on man" Ant laughed "poor Gary"

"I'm ok,I'm ok" Dec grinned,as Gary returned to the coach to do yet another take "let's try again"

"You sure?" Ant asked "got it out of your system now have you?"

"Yep" Dec smiled "let's go"

Unfortunately Dec couldn't help himself. As Ant attempted to have the brief chat with Gary,Dec was beginning to crease up just out of Ants eyeline once again.

"Ah come on" Ant sighed playfully "what's wrong with you?I'd like to get this done and get back inside in the warm.Control yourself will ya?"

"I'm trying" Dec giggled "it was just so funny"

"It really wasn't that funny" Ant stated "it was only a little slip"

"Was funny to me" Dec laughed, screwing his eyes up and attempting to keep the tears of laughter under control.

"You're an idiot" Ant laughed as the director suggested trying one more time and if Dec still couldn't keep a straight face, then they'd scrap the idea.

"Lucky for you, you've got such an infectious laugh" Ant whispered as they waited for Gary to get in position yet again.

"Everyone loves my laugh" Dec announced proudly "cheers them up"

"Yeah,it does" Ant nodded "but can we please not hear it for at least the next two minutes"

"Ok,I'll try" Dec smiled "not promising anything though"

That was just as well,as the minute Gary shook Ants hand and started talking again,Decs giggles returned.

He attempted to stay hidden behind Ants back, but to no avail.

"I'm sorry,I'm so sorry" he panted when he could catch a breath from laughing so much.

He leant back towards Ant as Gary walked past, leaning his head on Ants shoulder,Ant would just have to deal with this as Dec couldn't look Gary in the eye, mainly because of the tears of laughter in them.

"Ok,Dec" the director shook his head playfully "I think we'll give up on this idea"

"Sorry Gary" Ant said apologetically "we'll see you inside"

"Such a big kid you are" Ant laughed as he and Dec made their way back inside the venue.

"Couldn't help it" Dec replied "you know I'm a giggler"

"Yeah,I do" Ant smiled "and I know once you start, you don't stop,as you've just proved"

"Better than being miserable" Dec stated.

"Not if we don't get any work done it isn't" Ant pointed out.

"Ah,don't worry Ant" Dec replied "bet Stephen would love to get the outtakes for Britain's Got More Talent"

"Yeah, you're probably right there" Ant grinned.

"Gave everyone a laugh though didn't I?" Dec pointed out, referring to the crew who were also having hysterics at Decs lack of control.

"Yeah,I guess you did" Ant nodded "come on,we've got work to do"

The Edinburgh part of the auditions were soon over with and they were the end of the pre recorded programmes,so Ant and Dec were soon being driven back to London by their driver Joe.

"Gonna be a great series by the looks of things" Ant stated as Joe sped down the motorway.

"Definitely" Dec replied "that's it now until the live semi finals though"

"Yeah and no Saturday Night Takeaway this year" Ant reminded him.

Usually the boys would go straight into working on that programme as soon as the live auditions for Britain's Got Talent were wrapped up,but not this year.

"I am going to miss it" Dec sighed "but I still think we did the right thing by putting it on hiatus"

"Yeah,me too" Ant agreed "and it's not like we haven't got plenty of other stuff to keep us occupied"

"Exactly" Dec nodded "the amount of adverts and guest appearances we've got lined up is actually a bit ridiculous"

"Yeah,it is" Ant laughed "but we'll get a bit of time to ourselves too"

"That'll be nice" Dec smiled "I can hear the golf course calling already"

"Oh yeah" Ant laughed "we're definitely a bit out of practice aren't we?might take a holiday as well, whisk Lisa off somewhere hot if her work permits it,how about you?"

"That's a good idea" Dec replied "I'm seeing Georgie tomorrow then I think I'm gonna go up north for a while, visit the family while I have the time"

"Your Mam will be pleased about that" Ant stated.

"Yeah, she will" Dec smiled "I'll give her a ring in the morning,I'm too tired now"

The boys hugged and said goodbye to each other as Joe dropped them off at their homes.Ant insisted he was happy to walk the three doors down from Decs home to his place, but Joe wouldn't hear of it.

Joe knew that having such high profile clientele was a serious responsibility and he always insisted on watching the boys until they were safely inside their front doors.Ant and Dec really appreciated this but they did feel a bit ridiculous not being allowed to do a thirty second walk, but they had learned to go along with it to keep Joe happy.

Dec was so exhausted, that he fell straight into bed,no shower,no cup of tea, nothing. He felt a bit dirty and scolded himself for not having the energy even to freshen up quickly, but he could barely keep his eyes open as he cleaned his teeth.

He put his phone on silent, which was something he rarely did,but he couldn't bear the thought of being woken from his slumber. It wasn't like many people called him late at night anyway, they knew not to,but like most people,he still left his phone on in the unlikely case of an emergency, but not this time.He still had a landline anyway,so it wasn't a big deal

He woke up eleven hours later, extremely thankful for the good nights sleep.

The first thing he did was jump in the shower. He was feeling a bit ashamed of himself now for not doing it as soon as he got home the previous evening, but who was going to know?by the time he saw Ant,Georgie or anyone else,he would be smelling gorgeous as he always did.

He felt so much better afterwards and laid back down on the bed with just a towel wrapped around his middle.

He picked up his phone and turned it back on.Immediately several notifications came through, telling him he had voicemails and text messages.

He scrolled through them and felt a pang of guilt as he read Georgies text message.

'Hi Darling' it read 'hope Edinburgh was great?text or call me when you're home'

Dec had forgotten that he'd promised Georgie he would let her know he was home safely,so he quickly typed out a reply apologising for his forgetfulness and told her how much he was looking forward to seeing her later that day.

He also had a voicemail from Anne just asking him to call her,he was planning to do that at some point today anyway,so it could wait.

Firstly he needed to unpack his suitcase from the Edinburgh trip and get some breakfast,he really wished he was a better cook as he could have murdered a full English right now,but he would probably burn the kitchen down if he tried,so settled for marmite on toast.

After eating his breakfast, flicking through a newspaper and texting Ant just to see how he was,he thought it was about time he called Anne back or she would just worry.

"Hi Mam" Dec greeted her cheerfully "how are you?"

Dec was completely shocked and stunned not to hear his mothers usual cheerful voice through the phone line, but only the desperate sound of sobbing.

"Mam?" Dec said cautiously, terrified of what he was about to be told "what's wrong?what on earth has happened?"

"Decky" Anne managed to mutter in between heavy, tearful breaths "Oh Decky"

"Mam,you're scaring me" Dec replied with tears forming in his eyes "please tell me what's happened?is it Dad?"

Anne was nodding her head sadly, but obviously Dec couldn't see that.

"Hi son" Dec was surprised when his father came on the phone.

"Dad,what's going on?" Dec asked.

"Just had some bad news that's all" Fonsey stated.

"What bad news?" Dec asked apprehensively.

"I um...I've been having some tests" Fonsey announced.

"What kind of tests?" Dec enquired concerned.

"Well,I've been coughing a lot lately" Fonsey replied,he was struggling with how to break the bad news to his sensitive son "and I...I er..."

"You what Dad?" Dec snapped impatiently "just tell me will you"

"I've also been coughing up blood" Fonsey stated.

"Oh" Dec replied shocked, not really knowing what to say to that, but it obviously wasn't good news,it was in fact awful news.

Fonsey carried on talking "I've had tests Declan and they've confirmed that I have lung cancer"

"On God" Dec mumbled, tears now streaming down his face, the shock meant he couldn't think of much else to say,so Fonsey continued the rather one sided conversation.

"Don't worry Decky" Fonsey smiled "I'm starting treatment very soon and the outlook is good"

"Really?" Dec asked, now feeling a slight ray of hope, although it wasn't to last long with Fonseys next sentence.

"Well it's fifty fifty" he pointed out "but the doctors are hopeful that the chemotherapy will zap the little bugger"

"Why didn't you tell me all this was going on?" Dec asked, feeling rather put out.

"Didn't want you to worry lad and I know you're busy with work" Fonsey replied.

"You're more important than work" Dec retorted "you should have told me"

"I'm sorry Declan" Fonsey sighed "I guess I was in denial as well, thinking it was only something minor that would be easily fixed, didn't want to accept that it might be cancer, wish I'd never smoked all those years now"

"Can't turn back time" Dec announced sadly.

"You have given up now haven't you?" Fonsey asked.

Dec had smoked for a few years now,but had been very successful at hiding his filthy habit from the public,it wasn't the image ITV wanted for him and Ant.They were wholesome family entertainers and being seen puffing on cigarettes definitely wouldn't fit in with that image.

Ant also smoked and he had been caught out a couple of times by the press which ITV weren't happy about and made their feelings about it known, but he still couldn't bring himself to quit.

"Yes,I have Dad" Dec assured him "I haven't smoked for over two years now,Georgie would hate it if I did"

"Let's keep it that way eh lad?" Fonsey smiled "and don't worry about me,I know I'm going to be fine"

"Hope so" Dec muttered tearfully.

"I know so" Fonsey assured his youngest child.

"When do you start treatment?"Dec asked.

"Next week" Fonsey announced.

"Next week?" Dec echoed "that soon?"

Dec was even more terrified now.It must be deadly serious for his Dad to start treatment so soon after getting a diagnosis,he had suspected Fonsey had been playing the seriousness of his condition down so as not to worry and scare him too much.

"I'm coming up to see you" Dec informed Fonsey.

"You don't need to do that Declan" Fonsey replied "you've got work and I probably won't be very good company anyway. The chemo will completely knock me out apparently"

"I don't care" Dec stated "I just want to see you and I was planning on coming up for a visit while I've got the time anyway,I'm coming today"

"No lad" Fonsey replied sternly "you've only just got back from Edinburgh, you must be exhausted, there's no hurry"

"I would have come straight from Scotland if I'd known" Dec sighed.

"I'm sorry Dec" Fonsey replied, feeling slightly guilty,he just hadn't wanted his son to worry.

"I'm fine anyway Dad" Dec continued "I had a good nights sleep"

"Even so" Fonsey sighed "it's a long journey and I want you to be safe, please at least leave it till tomorrow will you?"

"Ok" Dec agreed reluctantly, before saying goodbye and hanging up the phone.

He knew he would be doing nothing but worry until he was actually home in Newcastle with his parents,so he was going to set off early the next morning and drive himself up.

Meanwhile a few doors down,Ant was busying himself doing chores around the house. He was definitely a person who liked to keep busy, which made him the perfect husband.

Lisa had a particularly hectic work schedule at the moment and now that the Britain's Got Talent auditions were over and done with,Ant wanted to spoil her rotten, starting off by making his delicious lasagne for when she got home.

He had the whole day to cook, clean and make things nice for her.

That was until his doorbell rang and he found a distraught Declan Donnelly standing on his doorstep!
