"I'm so nervous" Dec muttered as he stared at himself in the mirror.
"You're nervous?" Ant laughed "Declan,I'm the one who's getting married today, not you,I think my nerves trump yours"
"Can't help it" Dec replied "I've got to make a speech in front of all those people later, what if I mess it up?it's a big responsibility"
"I know it is" Ant smiled "and that's why I chose you for it"
"Ugh,I feel sick" Dec moaned.
"Dec,this is ridiculous" Ant sighed "just snap out of it will ya?you talk in front of hundreds of people all the time when we're working, this should be a piece of cake"
"You're right" Dec sighed "I'm being silly,I just want everything to be perfect for you and Lisa and I'm so scared of being the one who messes it up"
"It'll be fine Decs" Ant assured him "you've got your speech written down haven't you?you don't have to memorise it you know, you're allowed to read from it,whatever you've said,I know it'll be brilliant and everyone will love it,now stop stressing about it will ya?or you'll get me all worked up too"
"You're right" Dec replied "I'm sorry,I'm just panicking a bit"
"I can tell" Ant laughed "but you've got this, all you have to worry about is standing by my side, looking pretty, ready to hand over the rings, you have got them haven't you?"
Dec fumbled around in his inside jacket pocket for a moment "yeah, got them"
"Good" Ant smiled "then everything is under control, take some deep breaths and calm yourself ok?now, can we concentrate on me please?I'm getting married soon"
"Yeah, you are" Dec smiled affectionately "and I'm so happy for you and Lisa,I really am"
"Thanks" Ant smiled "I can't wait for her to be my wife"
"It's going to be an amazing day" Dec replied "and you two are going to have an amazing marriage, you deserve all the happiness in the world"
"Aww,thanks kidda" Ant smiled.
"And thanks for inviting my family" Dec grinned "Mam is so excited to be here"
"Well, they're my family too aren't they?" Ant stated "they've told me that enough times over the years,it wouldn't be right for them not to be here"
"I still appreciate it" Dec replied "my best mate is getting married and I get to see all my family at the same time,it doesn't get much better than that"
"I'm just glad they could make it" Ant mused "I'm surprised they were all available"
"Well,I know for a fact that some of them had to juggle some things around, but they all said the same thing" Dec replied.
"What's that?" Ant asked curiously.
"That they wouldn't miss it for the world" Dec smiled "now check us out"
The boys stood side by side, gazing at their reflections in the full length mirror.
They both wore smart, grey, designer suits which also matched the other groomsmen in the wedding party. The only difference was the colour of the silk ties.
Ants was white and Decs and the rest of the groups were pink.
"We look pretty dapper if I do say so myself" Dec grinned.
"Yeah,we do" Ant nodded "just hope we're looking as good by the end of the day"
"I doubt that very much" Dec laughed "now look at me"
Ant turned towards his best friend and Dec started to fiddle with Ants outfit slightly, straightening his tie and checking his button hole was secure.

A broad smile spread across Decs face as he looked straight into Ants eyes.
"It's time my friend" Dec stated "the car will be here soon,I just wanted to say one more thing"
"What's that?" Ant enquired.
"Just that I love you, you're the best friend a bloke could ever wish for and I wish you every happiness in the world in this new journey you're about to embark on" Dec announced.
"Thanks Decs" Ant smiled, with a tear forming in his eye "oh God,don't make me cry now"
"You've got this" Dec smiled and pulled Ant in for a hug which lasted an unusually long amount of time, even for them.
"Yeah I have" Ant stated confidently as he nestled his face into the crook of Decs neck, embracing him tightly.
The boys then checked their appearance one final time, adjusting their ties yet again as the hug had made them a little bit wonky.
"And you're ok now?" Ant asked concerned.
"Yeah,of course I am" Dec replied "don't worry about me,I was just having a bit of a wobble, but I'm over it now and I'll be even more relaxed later when I get my hands on the champagne"
"Oh God" Ant rolled his eyes playfully.
"Don't worry" Dec laughed "today is about you and Lisa,no one else,so how are you feeling?got butterflies in your stomach?"
"Yeah" Ant smiled "but good butterflies,as in I can't wait to get married and make the girl I love my wife"
"We'd better get on with it then" Dec smiled "come on"
Dec opened the door to the Berkshire hotel room, ready for him and Ant to exit and make their way downstairs to the forecourt where they would be picked up.
"Good luck Mr McPartlin" the receptionist smiled from behind her desk "have a lovely day"
"Thanks" Ant replied politely.
"He will" Dec called back confidently "I'll make sure of it"
"Nice car isn't it?" Ant smiled,as he and Dec climbed into the waiting Bentley.
"Very nice" Dec nodded.
Just a short time later,Ant was stood at the alter, waiting for his bride to be to arrive, with Dec at his side.
"Why did we decide to get married on the hottest day of the year?" Ant moaned "I'm sweating like a pig"
"Me too" Dec frowned "but you wanted a summer wedding, better be careful what you wish for"
"Yeah, but most English summers are a wash out" Ant pointed out.
"Don't complain Ant" Dec smiled "think how good the photos will look now the sun is shining, wouldn't be the same in the rain"
"Yeah I know" Ant sighed "just wish I wasn't so bloody sweaty in this suit,my forehead is dripping"
With that,Ant felt a gentle nudge on his arm,it was Lisas brother Stephen who had noticed Ants discomfort and was helpfully offering him a handkerchief to wipe his brow.
"Thanks" Ant smiled gratefully as he took the folded up piece of cloth and dabbed his face carefully.
"Better?" Dec asked.
"A little" Ant replied.
"Umm...Ant" Dec frowned.
"What?" Ant asked confused.
"How rough was that hanky?" Dec enquired.
"What do you mean?" Ant smiled "it's a piece of cotton"
"Christine?Sarha?" Dec whispered to Ants mother and sister sat in the front row "do either of you have a little mirror in your handbags?"
"Yeah,I do" Sarha quickly produced a small make up mirror from her bag "why?what's the problem?"

"Look at his face" Dec replied.
"What Declan?" Ant asked concerned "what the hell is wrong with my face?"
Dec held the small mirror up and Ant practically snatched it out of his hand.
"What the hell?" Ant stated "how did that happen?"
Ant,Dec,Christine and Sarha all stared at Ants forehead which was covered in small scratches.
"Must have been the hanky" Dec pondered "let's see it"
Ant passes the handkerchief that was emblazoned with a picture of Homer Simpson on it to Dec,who had a good feel of the offending object.
"Yeah" Dec nodded "that'll have done it,feel how rough the embroidery is"
"Bloody great" Ant stated "now what I do I do?"
"Not a lot you can do" Dec shrugged "they're not deep scratches, they'll fade before long"
"Who would have thought Homer Simpson could have done so much damage?" Ant sighed as he passed the handkerchief back to Stephen "thanks Stephen"
"Er...yeah,no problem" Stephen mumbled, having got wind of what was going on across the aisle "sorry Ant"
Ant was quickly distracted from his predicament as the wedding march began to sound out in the large church.
"This is it Anthony" Dec smiled at his best friend "you ready?"
"Ready as I'll ever be" Ant replied happily.
All the guests at the wedding smiled at how stunning Lisa looked as her Dad Derek walked her down the aisle, although Ant had decided not to look at her until she actually reached his side,he wanted that special moment when she reached him and smiled at him when he saw her in her wedding dress for the first time in all it's glory to be the first special moment of the day to stay with him forever and he certainly wasn't disappointed.
"She looks gorgeous" Dec whispered in his ear just before Lisa reached Ants side.
"Wow" Ant smiled,as he caught the first glimpse of his bride on their special day, bringing a tear of joy to his eye "you look beautiful"
"And you look handsome" Lisa whispered "but don't make me cry, don't want to ruin my make up"
"I'll do my best" Ant replied.
Lisa noticed the faint scratches on Ants forehead, but decided not to mention anything, luckily they had already started to fade.
The service all went to plan, everyone performed their roles perfectly and Ant and Lisa said their vows without a hitch, before it was time to enjoy the reception.
"Good job you two" Dec whispered to the newly married couple, before taking his place next to Christine at the end of head table "you did great"
"Thanks" Ant smiled "so did you"
"Yep" Dec grinned proudly "didn't lose the rings or anything"
"Thank God for that" Ant laughed "can you imagine?"
"Now it's time to eat, drink and be merry" Dec announced.
The rest of the day went off smoothly,Dec gave his best mans speech perfectly which made the crowd laugh at the stories he told about what he and Ant had got up to since they first met on the set of Byker Grove all those years ago, many of which were complete eye openers for the duos families and cry when he talked about his and Ants special friendship and just how much they mean to each other.
After a wonderful, amazing, perfect day,it was time for the happy couple to leave the reception and return to their hotel, ready to leave for their honeymoon to Dubai in the morning.
Ant and Lisa had decided that going back to the place where Ant had proposed would be the perfect destination for their honeymoon.
"Sorry, you're not coming this time Decs" Ant laughed as he hugged his best man before getting into the car.
"Shame" Dec laughed "you sure you don't want to take me in your suitcase?I'm only little,I can easily squeeze in"
"Not this time kidda" Ant laughed fondly "but seriously Declan, thank you...thank you for everything, you've been amazing"
"Yes,thank you Dec" Lisa smiled and hugged him goodbye.
"Was my absolute pleasure" Dec smiled, feeling tears welling up in his eyes, not for the first time that day.
He laughed along with everyone else as the car that was adorned with 'just married' sashes, slowly drove off with the colourful tin cans that were tied to the bumper making a hell of a racket.
Dec stood rooted to the spot for a few minutes as the crowd began to mill back inside to make the most of the DJ and the rest of the evening.
"Don't worry Decky" a small voice whispered into Decs ear "your time will come, the perfect girl is out there for you somewhere"
"I know that Mam" Dec replied to his loving mother "I'm in no hurry though"
"It's been a lovely day hasn't it sweetheart?" Anne smiled.
"Yeah,it has" Dec agreed, placing an arm around his petite mother "come on,let's go back inside"
Dec felt strangely deflated over the next few days. He'd been so consumed with his best man duties when he wasn't working over the last few months, throwing himself wholeheartedly into his responsibilities, but now what?
It was an anti climax and he felt slightly useless.Ant and Lisa were married and no doubt having the most amazing time on honeymoon. His family and friends had all returned to their own homes and lives, and a few days later as he sat slouching on his sofa, absent mindedly channel hopping through what was being shown on television, but nothing being able to keep his attention,he realised just how much he and Ant were totally embroiled in each others lives.
Of course he already knew that was the case and had been for many years, they were best friends after all,but now it hit him just how much he needed Ant and was actually feeling a bit lost and empty without him and he had a niggling fear that things were about to change now Ant was married and not for the better.
He tried to shake the feelings, telling himself how ridiculous he was being,he was a grown man in his thirties after all and if he couldn't have a couple of weeks away from Ant when he was on honeymoon without being upset, then something was seriously wrong.
He tried to tell himself that anyway, but the truth of the matter was that he was missing Ant desperately. He wasn't used to being away from him, they saw each other practically every day and on the odd occasions they didn't for whatever reason, they would speak on the phone for hours, even Lisa had accepted from day one that there was three of them in her and Ants relationship and just because she now had a wedding ring on her finger, that didn't mean anything had changed.
"Snap out of it Declan" Dec scolded himself, but he couldn't.
He was genuinely happy for Ant and hoped he was having the most amazing time in Dubai, but he missed him and felt guilty about these unexpected feelings and didn't know how to deal with them,he felt strangely alone and was seriously worried,so there was only one logical thing he could do.
And that was to call his mother!
