《Baby of the family》part 76

Ant and Dec had a couple of weeks between the two stag nights and once they had recovered from the shenanigans of the first one,Ali had an announcement to make.
"I've got some news for you boys" she grinned,as the three of them sat drinking cups of tea around Decs kitchen table.
"What's that?" Dec asked his manager curiously.
"Got a job for you" Ali smiled "and if I know you two like I think I do,you're really going to like it"
"What is it?" Ant enquired excitedly.
"An acting job" Ali grinned.
"What?" Dec frowned, feeling slightly deflated, that wasn't what he'd expected her to say.
"But we're presenters now Ali" Ant stated "we don't really act anymore, unless it's for sketches for Saturday Night Takeaway or advertisements"
"Is it an advert?" Dec asked curiously.
"No,it's not" Ali laughed "do you two grumps even want to know what it is,before you decide whether you're interested or not?"
"Go on then Ali" Ant smiled "hit us with it"
"It's a movie" Ali grinned.
"A movie?" Dec replied.
"Yep" Ali nodded.
"Oh you mean a cameo?" Ant frowned "like when we did Love Actually?"
"No,I don't mean that" Ali was enjoying stringing the boys along.
"Put us out of our misery then, will ya?" Dec pleaded.
"Ok" Ali smiled "it's a movie where they want you two for the main roles"
"Really?" Decs eyes widened considerably at this unexpected news.
Ali proceeded to open her bag and pass a copy of a script to each of the lads.
"Alien Autopsy" Dec read out the title at the top of the first page and looked at Ali with interest.
"Yep" Ali grinned "it's a true story and they want you two for the starring roles"
"What's it about?" Ant enquired.
"An alien autopsy I'd imagine" Dec replied sarcastically.
"Yeah, exactly that" Ali nodded "it's about two guys who faked an alien autopsy, managed to fool the whole world that it was real they did"
"Oh,I think I've heard about that somewhere" Ant replied.
"That's very likely" Ali nodded "it's a pretty well known story now, they want you to play the parts of Ray Santilli and Gary Shoefield"
"Movie stars eh?" Dec grinned.
"Just read the scripts, then get back to me" Ali requested "although I can't see why you wouldn't want to do it?I've already read it and it sounds like a great film"
"We'll do it" Ant stated.
"Yeah,we'll do it" Dec agreed.
"Seriously guys" Ali laughed "at least read the script first, just to be sure ok?"
"Ok" Ant and Dec replied together.
"Umm...when's it gonna be filmed?" Dec enquired excitedly "you know...if we decide we do want to do it?"
"As soon as Ant gets back from his honeymoon" Ali smiled "everything is ready to roll, they're just waiting for your confirmation"
"Better get reading then" Dec suggested.
"Good idea" Ali replied "call me later when you're done"
"Where's it being filmed?" Ant enquired.
"Here,at Ealing studios I think" Ali pondered, but wasn't a hundred percent sure "oh and in America"
"Brilliant" Ant grinned "an all expenses paid trip to America"
"For work" Ali stated sternly.
"Of course for work" Ant winked, knowing they always managed to squeeze in some hard earned leisure time whenever they visited the states "better keep your ID on you over there Decs"
"Shut up" Dec smiled, knowing Ant was having a playful dig at his youthful looks and as the American laws stated you had to be over twenty one to drink alcohol,Dec still got asked for proof of his age even though he was now over thirty.

"We'll do it" Dec announced to Ali down the phone later that day as he and Ant spent the afternoon lounging in his living room.
"Thought you might" Ali replied.
"It's a great story" Dec observed "and right up our street, can't wait to get started"
"Yeah,it is" Ali agreed "you and Ant are perfect for it,you already have the greatest friendship and chemistry together, that's why they wanted you both"
"Thanks Ali" Dec smiled "keep us informed of the details"
"Yeah, thanks Ali" Ant called out in the background.
"That's going to be great fun" Dec smiled as he handed Ant a beer.
"Yeah, can't wait" Ant nodded "we're gonna be proper film stars"
"We are" Dec laughed "but before then,we have the small matter of getting you married"
"Oh yeah, forgot about that" Ant joked.
"As if" Dec smiled "all set for stag night number two?"
"I would be if you gave me a clue about what's going on?" Ant frowned.
"Where's the fun in that?" Dec grinned "you enjoyed the last one didn't you?"
"Yeah,I had a blast" Ant smiled "why do I need my passport though?"
"Why do you think?" Dec teased.
"I guess we're going somewhere then?" Ant enquired.
"I guess we are" Dec replied playfully.
"Where?" The curiosity really was driving Ant crazy.
"All will be revealed in it's own good time" Dec replied "just have a bag packed ready for Thursday, enough stuff for four nights,Joe will be picking us up first thing"
"What do you mean by first thing?" Ant smiled.
"7 o'clock in the morning" Dec stated "so don't be late"
"Ha" Ant laughed "you're telling me not to be late,I've heard it all now,Mr punctuality you ain't"
"We,I'm taking my best man duties very seriously" Dec grinned "even if it means I have to drag myself out of bed at some ungodly hour when I'm not even working"
"I shall be forever grateful" Ant grinned cheekily.
"You'd better be" Dec winked "just be ready ok?and pack some decent clothes, ones that are suitable for a good night out"
"All of my clothes are decent I'll have you know" Ant stated with mock offence.
"Yeah,of course they are" Dec replied playfully.
The following Thursday,Ant climbed into Joes waiting car, where a grinning Declan was already seated.
"All set?" Dec smiled.
"I think so" Ant frowned "although I have no idea what I'm set for?"
"You'll find out soon enough" Dec replied "got your passport?"
"Yep" Ant patted his zipped jacket pocket "and hopefully I've got everything else I need"
Lisa was in on the plan and had helped Ant pack his suitcase for the trip.
"Bet you tried to get Lisa to talk didn't you?" Dec laughed as they set off on the journey.
"I tried everything" Ant frowned "but she wouldn't budge, can keep a secret that girl"
"I know she can" Dec giggled "wouldn't have told her otherwise"
Ant peered out of the window as they pulled up in the dropping off area in front of Heathrow airport.
"I guess we're flying somewhere then?" Ant observed.
"Why else did you think you had to bring your passport?" Dec laughed.
"Dunno" Ant shrugged.
After saying goodbye and thanking Joe,Ant and Dec made their way into the airport where they were immediately greeted with a loud cheer.
"Oh my God" Ant laughed, shocked and surprised in equal measures as he was hugged one after the other by twelve of his closest friends "what are you all doing here?"
"The question is" Frank smiled "what are you doing here Anthony?"
"I have no idea" Ant laughed "but I have a feeling I'm about to find out"
Whatever was about to happen, wherever they were about to go,Ant was so happy to see his close buddies again so soon and he was always glad when Frank, being the sensible one,was there. He'd proved his worth at the first stag night after all and just because he wasn't a big drinker, that didn't mean he wasn't loads of fun, because he was,he was just extremely responsible with it.
Ant observed that it was a smaller group this time, but he wasn't surprised. If they were flying off somewhere for a few days,it wouldn't have been easy for all of his pals to sort things out with their work and families, everyone had commitments after all,but looking around at the group of men that he was so fond of,he knew that this was going to be good, really good.
"So,do I find out where we are going now?" Ant asked.
"I guess so" Dec grinned "follow me"
Dec had really loved the idea of Ant somehow not finding out where they were going until they landed at their destination or at least until they were on the plane, but of course with airport procedures, that was impossible.
At least their celebrity status meant they didn't have to join the long queue that had already formed and were taken through to the VIP lounge to be checked in separately.
Ant stared up at the destination displayed on the overhead board.
"Riga?" He asked surprised.
"Yep" Dec grinned.
"Where the hell is that?" Ant frowned "never heard of it"
"Latvia" Dec grinned.
Ant was surprised at the country Dec had chosen, mainly because neither of them knew anything about it,or so Ant thought, but Dec had done his research and knew a great time would be had by all with everything he had planned for the next few days.
"Don't you worry your pretty little head about it" Dec grinned "it's all in hand"
"Where have I heard that before?" Ant laughed "oh yeah, might have been the night I ended up dressed as a French maid in Macdonalds"
Ant cringed at the thought of that drunken night just a couple of weeks earlier. His friends had taken great pleasure in showing umpteen pictures of him dressed in the various, fun outfits, but there did seem to be an unusually high amount of photos of him as the French maid.
The group were touching down in Latvia just a few hours later, where cars that Ali had very helpfully booked for them were waiting to take them to their hotel.
"Party capital this is" Dec announced as he unpacked his suitcase. He had decided to share a room with Ant,obviously they could afford to have a room each but he actually didn't want that.He wanted to enjoy every moment of this adventure with his best friend and some of the best laughs they'd had together since they'd known each other had been when they had shared hotel rooms. It was only a short trip anyway,so it was no big deal, everyone else was doubling up too.Although Dec had wanted to pay for everything, the rest of the lads insisted on paying their way.
"Let's hit the town then" Dec ordered once they had got changed and freshened up.
"Already?" Ant frowned "it's only 3 o'clock"
"Since when has that stopped us?" Dec laughed.
"Yeah, good point" Ant nodded "let's get this party started then"
The group enjoyed the rest of the day and the evening, but the truth was, they were all pretty exhausted after the early start and travelling they'd done,so agreed to save their best efforts for the next day.Dec swore he had the best day ever planned and that would be the main stag night.Today was just getting settled in.
So the next day,the group were keen to start the celebrations early. They had all had a good nights sleep and Dec informed Ant that they would be going out for a casual afternoon drink in an Irish bar, before returning to the hotel to get changed, ready for the evening.
Ant had no idea what that would entail, but he was looking forward to it nevertheless. They had all agreed to have dinner out at a steakhouse before they got stuck into the heavy drinking they would no doubt do.
"That was great" Ant announced after polishing off a huge portion of T-bone steak, chips, onion rings and peas, washed down with a pint of local Latvian beer.
"It really was" Dec agreed while wiping his mouth with his napkin.
The lads received a lot of ribbing from their friends about the fact that they ordered the same food.
"I just like steak" Dec shrugged, after copying Ants order.
"Yeah,I know ya do" Frank laughed "and you like Ant"
"Course I do" Dec smiled.
"Maybe we'll just call you two the twins from now on" Frank suggested playfully.
Ant and Dec grinned at each other, they actually quite liked that label, although Ant couldn't resist a golden opportunity to tease Dec a little.
"How about you just call him my little shadow?" Ant giggled.
"Hey,that's not fair" Dec moaned.
"It's very fair" Ant stated "and very true"
"Shut up the lot of you" Dec joked good heartedly.
Once they had all finished their meals and drinks,Dec was ready to show Ant what he had in mind for the rest of the night.
"Studio 69?" Ant asked curiously as he peered up at the sign above a nearby venues door.
"Yep" Dec grinned cheekily.
"It's a bar I assume?" Ant enquired.
"Yes it is" Dec laughed "and then some"
"Alright Declan" Ant shook his head nervously "there's something you're not telling me isn't there?what are you up to this time?"
"You'll see" Dec grinned.
The large group of men then entered the building and were shown to a large private table, before being served their chosen drinks.
"This is nice" Ant observed.
"Yeah it is" Dec replied sneakily, just as a semi naked lady came onto the small stage and started gyrating sexily to some very smooth music.
"Ah,it's a dance club" Ant stated.
"Sort of" Dec grinned.
"What the hell?" Ant laughed as the performer proceeded to gradually remove all of her clothes to a cheering audience.
"Declan" Ant stated, not quite being able to believe his eyes "you've brought me to a strip club?"
"Yep" Dec announced proudly.
"Full of surprises aren't you?" Ant laughed "just don't tell Lisa about this"
"She already knows" Dec laughed "and she's fine with it,in fact she wished she could have come along too"
"You're crazy, the pair of you" Ant laughed.
"Just enjoy the show" Dec smiled.
"Oh I will" Ant smiled "and you behave yourself"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Dec questioned, wide eyed at the performance taking place in front of him.
"Well, last time you were anywhere near a stripper, the shit really hit the fan didn't it? Ant pointed out.
"Ugh,do you have to bring that up again?" Dec moaned "it's not like I'm going to go anywhere near any of these girls and in the unlikely event I do,I'm single now and anyway, why would any of these girls be interested in me?they're very professional I'm sure and probably aren't allowed to get involved with customers"
"Ah,so you ARE interested then?" Ant grinned.
"Shut up,you eejit" Dec rolled his eyes "of course I'm not, this trip is all about you"
"I know kidda" Ant smiled and pulled Dec in for a sideways hug "I'm sorry,I'm just teasing ya,let's just enjoy the night shall we?"
The boys and their friends certainly did do that, even going to a second strip club,Crystal a few hours later, although by this point, most of the men were a bit too intoxicated to even care about what was happening on the stage in front of them.
They took it a lot easier over the next couple of days, just checking out the sights that Riga had to offer, mainly to indulge Ants love of history,They stuck to just a couple of drinks each in the evenings, until it was time to return home.
"You've excelled yourself Decs" Ant announced as they packed their cases ready to be taken to the airport on the last day.
"Thanks" Dec smiled.
"I couldn't have wished for a better best man" Ant stated fondly "you've done such a great job,the London stag night and now this,it's been amazing, thank you"
"It's not over yet" Dec grinned "there's still one more thing to do"
"Yep" Ant nodded happily.
"Get married!"

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]
