Mia’s pov

It has been four days of arming and preparing the police to fight supernaturals that up until four days ago were something of stories. Everyone is restless waiting for the fight and I feel the emptiness without my mate, waiting for the moon.

We start to make our way to the clear hill. Picking up speed as we make our way up. As the army I’ve brought takes their positions of cover we wait for Levi.

The moon starts to get higher in the sky and in the distances the rattling of chains can be heard. “Dearest Ava, it’s almost time,” Levi says and he shoves my mate to the ground. I leave my place of cover to confront him. “Did you come to say goodbye, mutt.”

“I came for my mate, blood sucker,” I growled at him. My mate is paler than him, clothes that once hugged her body now appear two sizes too big.

“You think you can stop me. You couldn’t even protect the woman you claim to love. She needs a real man. Not a woman who does the Devil's work. You nor any army can stop me now.”

“We’ll see about that.”

My army runs from their cover but before I could run to Levi he sends his own army. Blowing past every vampire that runs at me, making my way over to my mate. Punching and kicking, biting and clawing every vampire that tries to stop me. The green grass becomes red with blood from both sides, gun shots, and screams can be heard.

The moon is at its peak and the fighting stops. The vampires dropping to their knees. “It’s time,” Levi says.

“Not today blood sucker.” Still being three hundred feet away I pull a stake from my belt and throw it into his cold dead heart.

He stumbles back a little holding the stake, his skin starting to turn gray. Noticing me quickly approaching, he grabs my mate's head. “If I can’t have her, no one can, there are always consequences.” He uses his dying breath and snaps her neck.

I feel something inside me break when I catch my mate's lifeless body. When their leader's lifeless body hits the ground the vampires take off. Sofia, who's covered in blood from the fight, comes beside me placing a hand on my shoulder. The wolves that didn’t need medical attention took a knee while the humans took the injured to the hospital.

I lay my head on my mate’s chest. “I’m sorry,” I mumble through the sobs, then I hear it. And a few moments later again. I pick my head up and look at her face. “Ava?”

“You saved me,” she whispers. “Take me home.” Tears of joy stream down my face as I pick her up from the floor. And with the rest of the pack behind me I take my Luna home.
