《WOLF CHASE》[7] Table Talk

"Yeup, it's official, the dude totally hates me." Massie disclosed to the group of girls at the lunch table.

Like yesterday, the topic of the day was the Cult Boys, and she easily assumed that group was often spoken about no matter where she went. Even Massie couldn't help herself. Dang, those boys just demanded attention.

"That sucks, you just got here and already you have Sebastian angry at you? I would feel so depressed." A blonde sympathized, yet Massie could tell the chick was all too happy the new girl didn't catch his attention. Or his good side for that matter.

Massie didn't pay mind to the fake pity she was getting, someway or another she would get to sit at that group's table. It would be a work and progress. Maybe in three months? That's enough to get cozy with the rest of the pack. If she played her cards right she wouldn't even have to get to Sebastian's good side, just everyone elses. So far her and Jordan were headed the right direction. Speaking of Jordan. . .

"I know. But Jordan and I totally hit it off. We were flirting in math class," Massie boasted innocently. She wasn't even interested in Jordan, but she wanted to let blondie know she wasn't being completely ignored by the Cult. Massie knew that once she gained the whole crews friendship, Sebastian would have no other choice but to talk to her.

"I wouldn't take it too seriously. Jordan and Noah are known for their frequent flirting. The moment they see one of their group they drop you like a hot potato," countered the same blonde.

Massie forced herself to contain a glare that was pushing to be aimed at the scrawny girl. Especially since she was right. Once Jayden call him, he was out.

"Could be, I haven't experienced that yet," Massie replied, lying flawlessly.

"Hmph, you will soon enough," the blonde mumbled irritated, loud enough for her to hear. What was this chick's name again? Massie was pretty sure it started with an A, or something similar.

"Of course you would know Emily," commented Emma.

Emma's remark earned some shared snickers about the table. Gauging by everyone's reaction, Massie guessed Emily had been dropped by those boys more times then she could count. However, the purple-eyed princess was more horrified by the thought that they actually flirted with her. Granted, she was cute, but she looked like a 17-year-old trapped in a 12-year-old body. Those guys were men. They needed a woman. Such as herself!

"They do any sports?" Massie asked, eyeing Noah as he threw his empty plastic tray in the trash.

She couldn't help but notice how well in shape all of them were. Even Keisha, the girl she bumped into the first day of school had a bit of muscle to her.

Emma shook her head. "Nope. I'm guessing they work-out outside of school. Although. . . I've never seen them in the town gym. Must be the genes then," she hypothesized.

Massie almost rolled her eyes. No genes could make a guy look this great. Especially a group of guys such as these. No, something was definitely going on with those boys, and she was determined to find out.

Study Hall had to be the most boring period Massie had all day. She couldn't annoy the teachers with her outbursts, there were no cute guys to flirt with—at all— and the person beside her found the need to sniff up the buggers clogged up his nose every 20 seconds, yes, she had counted. Two minutes and six sniffs later Massie finally cracked. She got up and asked the supervisor for permission to go to the bathroom. He merely waved her off, too preoccupied with a book titled Fruit Cup to pay mind to her.

The book's cover was literally a cup filled with fruits. Massie had to hand it to him, Mr. Supervisor was smart. Anyone would think his book was about some dumb apple mad at the watermelon for being juicier than she is, but if you looked closely, a certain area of his pants had extra height, and if you paid even more attention he gulped every now and then. Mr. Supervisor was reading a porno.

In the hall Massie decided she would walk around the school for the rest of the period, Porno Man wouldn't notice her absence anyway. Besides, she might catch a cute guy passing by. After being in that awful classroom she certainly deserved it.

Massie went upstairs, seeing as she hadn't ventured much the area due to most of her classes being on the first floor. After exploring a little she found the library. She smirked, remembering the argument her and Sebastian had starting with her asking where the library was, now she knew where it was.

Upon entering she was overwhelmed with the amount of books. For such an obscure town they sure had heaps of literature. The second thing she noticed were the large, pristine windows. Had there not been clocks in every classroom Massie would have definitely lost track of time in this high school; there were not many windows.

"Don't they ever wonder how the students would escape if a fire happened?" she whispered to herself, nearing the windows.

"My guess is as good as yours," responded a deep voice beside her.

Massie turned to be faced with the the sexiest mohawk she had ever seen. Then again, it could just be the person who wore it. She recognized him immediately. It was James Fulton, one of the Cult Boys.

Be a good girl Massie, he's your boss' boyfriend.

"Then again, it could be because of the small population of students in this school," he continued.

Massie smiled. "One of my life dreams is jumping out of a window in a school fire." Massie gazed at the window again, "I guess I'll have to carry some extra rope on me, just in case." James chuckled, placing his book on a table nearby. She briefly caught the title. The Bond of Mates. "Having trouble with your girlfriend?" she inquired boldly, nudging her chin in the book's direction.

James hesitated before finally saying, "Not necessarily. More like. . .finding answers," his words were stressed.

His lack of straightforwardness made Massie aware he was hiding something. She didn't blame him. After all, they'd only just met. Either way she didn't worry, she had always been one to make others feel comfortable around her in a short amount of time.

Grabbing the book she opened it to a random page, the first word that popped out was werewolf. It immediately brought her back to last night when she had seen that large wolf at the park. Why would this guy look for love solutions in a book of werewolf love?

"I don't think this book is gonna help you. Unless you're a werewolf," she joked, skimming the pages. The book looked rather old, with words looking like they came from a typewriter rather than a computer.

James cleared his throat. "Yes, but it speaks about how a relationship between mates should be."

"Aren't werewolves animals? For them its just sex and making babies right?"

"Yes—no. Werewolves are animals but they're also human. Their spouse tends to be their mate, basically someone they're really compatible to. The feelings they have with a mate are said to be highly unique and exclusive. It's similar to what people call 'love'. So I thought, why not read this." James blushed afterward.

"Trust me James, if you're going as far as reading books about werewolf love to feel assured about your relationship, I think you guys are doing pretty good." Massie laughed, patting his shoulder.

He laughed with her, but then looked at her strangely. "How do you know my name?"

Great, now he thinks I'm a Level 5 stalker.

"I've heard plenty of girls speak about you and your friends. I think I got pretty much all of your names down. Anyway, I'm just happy you picked up a werewolf book instead of some other one, like a praying mantis." Massie said, quickly changing the subject. She didn't want James to think she was one of his obsessive admirers.

Thankfully, his eyes brightened, his previous question forgotten. "Ahh, you know how the female eats her partner after mating, sometimes during."

Thank you Lydia. Your intelligence finally serves for something valuable.

"You wouldn't have had to worry about that. I may be confused but I still hold my sanity," James continued, rolling his eyes playfully.

"What with all these books you never know," Massie countered, gazing as the mass of books again. There was a certain area of the library where it was exceedingly full to a point where books were protruding from the shelves.

James followed her gaze and smiled. "That's the Dark Falls history area. Its full of diaries made from those who lived here long ago. Many doubt the books' accuracy, seeing as there are some that write about supernatural events, but the events collide with American history so precisely that no one knows what to believe. They were given their own area in the library. That's where I got this book from," he grabbed it from her hands and went to return it.

Massie followed him, curious about the section. By glancing at the titles she could see the book James chose wasn't the only one about werewolves. Again, it brought her back to last night in the park. Could that have been a regular wolf or a werewolf. As a kid she had always wished things like fairies, vampires, dragons and the like would exist, but growing up she learned they were a mere fantasy. It would be nice if they actually did exist.

Then the wolf she saw yesterday could be part human! Hopefully a good-looking one, if that was the case then she wouldn't mind visiting him every night. She almost laughed, imagining what Lydia would tell her if she heard her thoughts.

A red book on one of the shelves caught her attention. It had no title, but upon taking it she realized it was a diary of a girl named Jeanette, as she so introduced herself on the first page. Skimming a bit she caught the word werewolf .

"With the weirdness of this town and these books, I might start believing in werewolves myself," Massie huffed, closing Jeanette's diary.

"Is that so?" James asked, a sneaky smile closing on his lips. Almost as if he knew a joke she didn't. In that moment the bell rang, anyone who had been in the library rushed out, except for a girl who was eyeing James appreciatively. "Nice meeting you Massie, see you around." He waved her goodbye and departed, the girl not-so-stealthy following after.

Massie waved back and returned to the shelves, in no rush to get to her next class. That is, until she realized she never told James her name.

A/N: Please vote and comment to let me know what you think :3 LOL Massie can be such a meangirl sometimes smh, tbh I was inspired to write a role like her but I once was petty and stupid, with friends that were also petty and stupid. Of course, Massie is an exaggeration of that, but I wanted a character I could develop yet at the same time be different.
