《WOLF CHASE》[6] Avoidance

"How do you solve this math equation?"

No one raised their hands. Massie personally believed Mr. Seaman was one of the strangest teachers in the entire Dark Falls arena. What type of teacher asks you how to answer a problem when it's a new subject? This baffled her, and she wondered if he did this purposely or was just stupid.

"Massie, what is the answer," he asked once he saw that no one was going to raise their hands. The only person with his hand up was Jordan, the feistier twin, and Mr. Seaman had enough experience to know Jordan wouldn't supply him with the answer he was looking for.

"I didn't raise my hand!" she complained.

"I don't care."

Easily giving up, she said the first answer that popped into her head. "Purple." The class erupted in giggles, which in turn made Mr. Seaman's head fall disdainfully.

"New girl got jokes," praised Jordan, who sat beside her.

Massie smiled back, forcing herself to not beam with happiness at his attention. "What can I say? It comes with the package."

The moment she'd entered class and saw one of the Cult boys sitting on his desk with an empty chair on his left she gladly sat beside him, hoping she could begin getting to know these boys. She could tell many girls had been disappointed at her choice of seating, but Massie didn't care. It wasn't her fault they were too nervous to sit next to him.

"That's a package I'd like to see," he winked at her, giving her a devilish grin.

"I don't think you could handle it," she teased. To her dismay the bell rang immediately after, interrupting the flow of their conversation. Even so, Jordan continued with their obvious flirting.

"Try me," he challenged.

From the corner of her eye Massie could see girls stalling as a way to find an excuse to walk beside Jordan. She felt rather smug about the fact that she'd only just met the dude and already she was getting more attention from him than any of them have probably gotten from him all year.

"Hmm. . ." she childishly placed a finger on her chin, as if considering his reply. He smirked, his brown eyes bright.

"Jordan!" called a voice from the door. The classroom was near empty now except for the two exceptionally desperate girls. One was tying her shoe for the fifth time while the other 'fixed' her hair.

Massie immediately noted it was Jordan's twin brother. Two identical good-looking boys in one room. Massie sighed happily, she never thought she'd live the day.

Strangely, getting Jordan's attention was all Jayden needed to walk off and have his brother quickly follow after him. Talk about twin telepathy. She guessed it did exist after all, but Massie didn't pay attention to their random departure. Instead she gazed pityingly at the dejected girls.

Even if their plan to wait for Jordan had worked, what then? Just stalk him to his next classroom? It wasn't the ideal way to catch as guy's attention, or his affections to say the least.

In the hallway Massie was greeted with Emma's humongous smile. It was so large it put the Cheshire Cat to shame.

"Guess what!?"

"What?" Massie asked, wondering what was going through that crazy head of hers.

"I was going to my locker when I saw Noah—you know, buffer one of them all—then he looked back and gave me a head nod!" she gushed, and if it were even possible her smile became wider.

Wow, this girl should honestly consider apply in the Guinness Book Of World Records for biggest smile. Massie hadn't seen one of those since, well, ever.

"No! You're lying!" Massie exclaimed, slapping Emma's shoulder.

"Cross my heart and hope to die!" her friend responded joyfully. Jumping up and down the hallway.

Massie decided to disregard the stares they were getting. She thought seeing Emma's excitement was rather funny, besides, she enjoyed seeing her friend happy. Out of the corner of her eye, Massie spotted them not too far away heading in their direction. Of course they were immersed among themselves but it would only be a matter of time before her friend's loud squeaks of happiness would catch their attention.

"I guess Noah is your favorite one now" said Massie, smiling knowingly at her friend.

"Maybe, but I really like— oh look! They're here! Don't you want to wait and see if they'll give you a nod too?"

Emma's sincerity kept Massie from laughing, so instead she answered the question genuinely. "The period coming up I have class with Sebastian. I think a class with him makes up for any type of head nod."

When she walked inside the social studies classroom Massie realized the error she had made. She should have waited until Sebastian entered the room first before she did, that way she'd know where he sat to sit next to him. She knew it was a death call sitting beside that monster, yet she couldn't suppress the ambition of being near that group, especially him for whatever reason.

Massie bid her luck and sat on the middle desk. Around her girls were furiously brushing their hair and adding their last touches of makeup. Darn, what ever happened to notion that these girls were afraid of him? Massie sighed, looks like she had more competition than she thought. Sebastian's entrance to the classroom got all the girls quickly to a seat where they would feign disinterest yet try to look cute at the same time.

You could pretty much say all the girls in the classroom pretended to not notice Sebastian, but from their twitching bodies she could just tell they were anxious. All except the two girls who sat behind her next to each other. She'd forgotten their names, but she definitely remembered how yesterday they talked non-stop about the bronze-skinned Apollo.

"Oh. My. God," started the one directly behind her. "He sat on his desk!"

"I know, and look: he's drumming his fingers on the wood," replied to second one. Massie peaked back to see them blankly staring at his finger movements. "Oh my god! He bit his lip!" she added, thrilled.

Massie pouted. Sebastian ended up seating four desks away from her. She didn't dwell over it though, with chicks like these she would never have to look up and wonder the heck Sebastian was doing. They covered his every move.

"Oh my god, he took out his pencil!"

"Mmhmm, I always knew he was one to put his pencils in his front pockets, never in the back ones."

"Oh my god he put his hands under his chin!"

"Oh my god!" Massie cried sarcastically. She slammed the desk with her hand, getting the two girls' attention. "He's breathing!" The girls gasped and then nodded in amazement at how the purple-eye beauty was able to point that out.

Massie wasn't surprised. It had been clear to her yesterday within the first minute that these girls had never met sarcasm in their life.

From the corner of her eye Massie could see Sebastian smile slightly with a swift look in her direction. Which led her to believe that unlike these ditsy girls he'd actually caught her sarcasm.

The rest of the period went rather boring with the teacher speaking about a country and some hero that killed someone. She didn't really pay mind, daydreaming about one thing or the other.

However, when the bell rang she became more alert, getting her stuff and going to Sebastian's side, whom by the time she caught up with was already out the door.

"Hi Sebastian," she greeted, walking next to him. He merely nodded in acknowledgment, and even then he didn't spare her a glance. "I'm—"

"I know who you are, new girl" he deadpanned, walking faster. Nevertheless Massie kept up with his pace, dismissing his tone.

"I like to be known as Massie, not the new girl. You don't see me calling you Guy I Just Met," she laughed nervously. Why oh why did this dude have to be so hard to speak to.

"Yesterday you referred to me as stupid."

Massie saw his muscles constrict at the words. "I wasn't referring to you, I was talking about the situation. But either way I'm sorry," Massie apologized. Again, Sebastian nodded. She smiled, "Does that mean we're good now?"

"No," he replied, speeding his pace ever further.

Massie quit trying to walk next to the him. Hers legs had already walked the best they could, and his current speed was now ridiculous. She'd have to jog to be next to the kid, definitely not worth it with his attitude. Hmph!

A/N: Please comment and vote :) Thanks for all those who have fanned. Hope you enjoyed the chapter :3 Remember Massie is her own developing character, sometimes I get shocked myself at the things she does haha
