《Growing Attached To My Competition ✔️》Chapter 75 - Wedding Bells

Adrian was staring at the photo on his phone that was taken with Brody before they left. He had sent the picture to himself so he could look at it whenever he wanted it, eventually changing it to his screensaver so that he could see it everyday.

Looking into the rear view mirror, "Sweetie, you're doing it again..." Sally joked as she noticed her son staring at his phone again.

Putting his phone away, "Sorry." He apologised as the tint of red showed up on his cheeks after getting caught.

Sally nudged her sister as they both began to tease him even more since they left. "Cat got your tongue? Or is it the devilishly handsome boyfriend that's making you flustered?"

"No!" Adrian pouted as he resisted crossing his arms to wrinkle up his suit.

"Come on sweetie, you know you don't have to pretend to be shy." Sally told her son.

"I'm not pretending, I'm just feeling really shy right now." Adrian confessed, he knew the next couple of hours in the car was going to result in lots of questions from his aunt.

"I knew I liked that boy!" Susie stated out loud.

Brody had left a good impression on all of Susie's family ever since they first met at thanksgiving. And she still saw him as the perfect gentlemen like he was back in the holidays.

"How long have you two been dating?" Susie asked, desperate to know about her nephew's relationship.

"It's actually been 2 months today since we became official." Adrian was amazed at how quick time flew by.

So much, yet so little, has happened in that short amount of time, and Adrian wouldn't change any second of the journey he shared with Brody.

"That's wonderful Adrian, make sure you take the relationship at your own pace." Susie advised.

Sally snickered from her seat as she was about to reveal how more information, "Too late for that..." She whispered.

"What do you mean by that, Sally?" Susie asked as she glanced at her sister briefly.

"Mom..."

Sally squealed in her seat as she shared more information about her son's relationship, ecstatic that she got to talk to her family about it. "They've already said I love you!"

Susie dangerously smacked her sister in the arm whilst driving, excitement bubbling over. "Shut up! Oh my god!"

"Yeah yeah! At thanksgiving too!" Sally squealed with happiness even louder.

Adrian was groaning from the back of the car as his mom was enjoying gossiping about him - with him right behind them. He had to cover the little smile he had on his face using his hands to cover his mouth.

Back home, Brody had slipped out of the house when he saw Ollie was snoozing in his bed. With a spring in his step, he went to become a third wheel in Ashley and Adam's lunch date.

Meeting them at the coffee shop, he had ordered his usual when they sat down together.

"So I take it they've left already?" Ashley asked.

Brody nodded his head as he struggled a little to breakdown his muffin with one hand.

"A whole week without puking from watching you both, it's a blessing in disguise." Adam joshed as he poked fun at the pair.

Brody rebelled by tossing a piece of his muffin at Adam. Ashley didn't help by joining in with the laughter, so Brody threw a piece at her too.

"Besides, it's only 4 days." Brody muttered quietly.

Learning that Brody was counting down the days made Ashley giddy and Adam slightly cringe for his friend's attention to detail.

"You guys want to do something later?" Brody asked Ashe distracted them once he stopped wasting food.

"We were going to go to the the cinema later, Holly recommended this film and she said its meant to be the best one this month." Ashley then invited Brody along, "You can come too if you want."

"It kind of sounds like a date," Brody admitted. Not wanting to be one to intrude, "You guys go ahead, I'll do something else."

Brody tried to think about things he could do to occupy his time. Anything physical was ruled out because of having only one functioning hand, winter break meant that he had no work to catch up on, and he didn't need to work at the bakery today.

Right now, the things Brody wanted to do involved Adrian. It would all be innocent, with them probably just chilling out together, watching Modern Family, and eating things that Adrian cooked them.

It was these little things that Brody cherished everyday, and now he had to deal without it, for 4 days - 4 very long days.

The trio of wedding guests made it to the venue slightly later than the intended time. Slipping into the back of the church, they found some seats without causing a disturbance.

Adrian didn't recognise a lot of people at the church, quite frankly he wasn't even sure what the happy couple was dressed like.

He was here because his mom convinced him to come, plus the rack of lamb for dinner sounded delicious. And then he heard that the wedding cake was tripled tiered, and Adrian's mouth watered after hearing about it. Strawberry and cream was the first tier, then it was chocolate and cherry, and finally lemon and blueberry to finish.

Plus he got to spend some time with his grandparents and cousins - but mainly everything was for the food.

Hearing the church organ blast into life, everyone stood up as the bride was walking down the aisle.

Adrian was taken back with admiration to see Alex in her beautiful white wedding gown with a short trail. But the bigger shocker was to learn that Jamie was walking down with her, in her own bridal gown.

Drifting apart from his cousin was an understatement, Adrian had no idea Alex was even in a relationship, yet alone getting married to a woman.

"Holy shit she's a lesbian!" Adrian cursed out loud, which got a few mixed glares and disapproving noises from the people sitting around them.

"He's not homophobic!" Sally whispered in a hushed manner, as she defended her son from the strangers around them. "He loves gays!"

"Mom!" Adrian was extremely embarrassed as he tried to avoid the looks from everyone.

Someone in front of them even turned around to shush them.

"Focus on the bride guys," Adrian then corrected himself for saying it wrong, "I mean brides - as in plural."

Shooing the glances at them away with his hands, Adrian looked at how happy his cousin seemed to be, standing at the alter with the woman she loved.

Proudly, in front of their friends and family, they got to stand up there and show the love they shared for each other.

Words were never enough when you could show it in front of all the people you love. And it suddenly clicked for Adrian, on why some people loved weddings.

His earlier beliefs about weddings being pointless and a waste of time were now void. Because finding the one true love is worth spending all the money on. It was all worth it to see the smiles on their faces as they got to share their happy day.

"This could be you one day." Sally whispered to her son, imagining her own son being someone's husband one day.

As they all sat down back into their seats, Adrian thought about what his mom just said. "I've only been dating Brody for 2 months, there's no way that we're already planning our wedding!" He whispered with a kind of panic in his voice that indicated how alarming the idea sounded.

Nudging her shoulder against his, "I never mentioned Brody, now did I? You're the one that said his name and the word 'wedding' in the same sentence." Sally teased as Adrian's jaw dropped from what she pointed out.

Adrian's alarm bells were ringing at the Freudian Slip. It came out like a reflex to mention Brody's name, despite the fact that they had never even talked about marriage, or even kids before.

'Am I seriously thinking about marriage and kids right now?' A stressed out Adrian thought to himself. 'Too soon! Too soon! Too soon!'

Seeing his cousin up there, in a homosexual relationship, possibilities popped into Adrian's head that one day he could also have a gay wedding. A house and kids usually came next after a marriage, and Adrian thought about if it would be true for him one day.

Looking at the couple at the alter, Adrian had no idea if Alex and Jamie were planning to have children. Maybe they already did, Adrian really didn't know anything about his cousin. But the point was that any couple could end up with the perfect family, if they really wanted it.

Adrian never thought about this kind of life before. Given that he had never been in a relationship before, a ceremonial wedding and a nuclear family was out of the picture also.

But today helped Adrian realise that one day, he could maybe have it all - if he really wanted it.

~~~~~~~~~~
The wedding went as smoothly as possible. Mrs and Mrs Lawrence-Jones were currently having their first dance, with Etta James playing in the background.
Adrian was stuffing his face with cake as he was eating his feelings. He may have overdid it when he was constantly thinking about the whole marriage and kids things.
They were still both extremely young - he was still extremely young. Adrian didn't need to plan so far in the future, but the worst part was that it didn't seem as scary as it should have been.
And that's why he was panicking and overthinking everything that was going on in his head, because it didn't seem as far fetched anymore.
"There's my favourite cousin!" Alex dragged her trail behind her as she hugged Adrian.
"Alex! Congratulations!" Adrian hugged her back affectionately. "I'm so happy for you."
Alex had a glance at Adrian's plate and saw how little was left on the several plates that Adrian had just presumably ate from. "Still got the same big appetite I see, what's it this time?"
Adrian laughed as he looked slightly apprehensive. "What do you mean?"
Taking one of the spare forks on the table, Alex was now sharing the tiers of cake on Adrian's plate. It was like the older times when they were younger, sharing food and feelings together. Adrian didn't know how they became so distant, but he was going to make the most out of the time they had now.
"It's usually treats and sweets when you're avoiding the deets!" Alex laughed as she accurately described Adrian's habits. "So what details are you glossing over with this delicious cake."
Adrian had a cheesy grin on his face after hearing the old mnemonic. "Relationship stuff, kind of."
"Oh, that old ancient problem. Girl trouble?" She innocently asked.
Adrian slowly shook his head with a smile, as Alex beamed on the realisation. "My gaydar really is awful, we never did see eye to eye about the same type of women, did we?" Alex laughed.
Laughing with his cousin, Adrian was happy they still had this family-friendly type of relationship.
"So, boy trouble then. Who's the guy and when am I going to give him a swirly for hurting my dearest cousin?"
Adrian was quick to correct Alex and her supportive threat. "First of all, Brody could take everyone in this room down like they were the fly I dared you to eat when we were little. And secondly it's not really 'trouble', it's just 'me' that I'm stress eating over."
Briefly laughing at the memory, Alex stood up as she made Adrian follow her. "Let's talk in the garden, it's a lot quieter and I have a feeling that this conversation is going to get deep."
Sneaking out of the venue, the pair of them made it to a gazebo that overlooked the grand garden with all the sculptures. It was lucky that none of them had hay fever, because the flowers were blooming everywhere around them.
"So what's on your mind then, dear cousin?" They had grabbed a drink before they left, and had just clinked their glasses together as they drank from it.
"I always hated everything about weddings." Adrian blurted our loud.
"Geez, I'm so glad you made it then." Alex retorted, with enough sarcasm that matched Adrian's usual demeanour.
"Hey, I'm trying to pour out my heart over here." Adrian laughed. "I just, never imagined myself being somewhere here, like this."
"You mean at your cousin's wedding?"
Adrian gave his cousin a mocking look and a giggle that suggested he was done with her shit. Alex put her hands in the air to surrender, letting Adrian have the floor.
"Is it weird that I kind of want this someday?
When I was straight, I would occasionally think about having the nuclear family and all that stuff that goes with it. But ever since I came out, and I'm in my first, stable relationship, I'm just aching to have the same big picture too."
Brody would probably be poking fun at how gushy he was being right now. They hadn't even had sex, yet Adrian was already imagining a future with him.
"This is going to sound really stupid, and slightly homophobic, but I always thought that gay marriage never equated to the straight ones like people made it out to be - it was against nature, and evolution and stuff. But then I saw you and your wife up there, and you proved that so wrong."
Alex's eyes shined as she admired her cousin's gentle soul. There was a lot of emotional depth in her teenage cousin, and hearing from it made Alex smile warmly at him.
"So what's stopping me from having it one day? I think I want it - I think I want the whole package. But now I started to 'briefly' think about it with my boyfriend of 2 months, and it's making me like a crazy stalker. It's all just muddling my mind right now, Alex."
Adrian felt that a weight was now lifted off his chest as he talked to his cousin.
Holding her cousin's hand, Adrian looked up to see Alex with a precious look in her eyes. "Adrian, it's okay to dream big and dream so far into the future."
"But that's the thing! I've never really thought about any of that stuff until today!" Adrian pointed out. "And now I'm worried my craziness will scare Brody off!"
One of the bridesmaids came looking for Alex after Adrian just admitted he was worried about chasing Brody away with his dream. They were gesturing that she needed Alex to come back inside, so Alex has to cut the conversation short.
"I'm really sorry Adrian, but I've got to go. But I would still love to hear more about you and Brody tomorrow."
Alex placed a kiss on her cousin's cheek as she bid farewell. "Don't overthink it too much, just be in the moment. You're both young and the relationship is still new, so there's no need to think and talk about marriage just yet."
Adrian nodded as he listened to Alex. "And how long did it take for you to know that Jamie was the one?" He asked curiously.
Alex laughed as she told Adrian the truth. "19."
"I'm 19 this month!" Adrian screamed, with his eyes bulging out and his heart becoming flustered.
"But I'm 23 now, and we've been together for ages." Alex added as she tried to calm down Adrian's hysterics.
Alex swiftly left to join the rest of her wedding guests. Adrian was now alone as he was nursing his drink in peace. Surround by the elegant nature, Adrian was left contemplating about his future.
