Two Weeks Later

= Enna’s POV ==

I stood in our bedroom, looking at my reflection in the floor length mirror. The dress was beautiful, off white, with a lot of details which looked like feathers. It flowed around me with my movements and made me feel light, exactly like when I was flying. The hair-dresser and make-up artist had only done very little work, enhancing slightly my features and taming my curls in an intricate low bun with a few messy strands. I had on a very simple diadem from Lara.

My eyes flew down to my belly, the bump wasn’t clearly noticeable yet, I was only about 7 weeks into my pregnancy, but I knew it was true. Under the pretenses of going for a walk with Liza and Nathalie, who was almost fully recovered by now, I was snuck into a doctor’s office, who was sworn to secrecy under multiple treats by Liza. The diagnosis was clear, I was pregnant.

I didn’t know when to tell Simon but I didn’t want to announce it to people before I announced it to him, so I waited. I guessed he would be happy, but at the same time, I was unsure. After telling him I couldn’t conceive, he had been so supportive but now, I had to say “oh by the way, I got pregnant because we didn’t use any protection.” I was also a little bitter, we only had sex a few times, and I was already pregnant thanks to the witch. I felt like I was skipping steps, leaping through life, and utterly unprepared to care for a child.

“Enna? Are you with us?”

I jumped at the sound of my name. In the mirror’s reflection, I could see Lara and Nathalie standing in the doorway.

“Sorry, I was just a little lost in thoughts” I replied, turning around.

“Oh, by the goddess, you look absolutely stunning!” exclaimed an overjoyed Lara almost jumping in place and stepping forward to hug me. “In thoughts? Do you consider not getting married to my son?” she asked, frowning at me.

I shook my head. “No, of course not. It’s still a big day…” I replied, looking at myself in the mirror again.

“Your parents would have been proud of you.” Said Nathalie in a soft tone, looking at me with a sort of love in her eyes.

“They would have loved Simon too” I replied with a chuckle. To be honest, I didn’t know if they would have, but I strongly believed that they would never have opposed to someone genuinely nice who made me happy, especially my mother.

“I’m happy to see you’re getting a few pounds on, you looked like a skeleton when we found you” commented Lara on my figure. I was suddenly overwhelmed by adrenaline. I had put a few pounds on, and it wasn’t only my belly, I was eating more on purpose, but I hadn’t told anyone and I didn’t want Lara to find out before Simon.

“You look beautiful” said Nathalie. “Lara, the caterer needs you” she added towards my mother-in-law.

“Better hurry! They never know what to do!” she claimed, leaving the room in a hurried pace.

“Thank you” I mouthed to Nathalie.

She was dressed in a lavender long dress. We had chosen Lavender as the “bridesmaids color”. I wanted to have three but Cassandra had just given birth and didn’t feel up to the challenge, so I had Liza and Nathalie. Liza walked in at that moment.

“It’s time!” she said, giving me my flowers. My heart jumped in my chest at the thought. I could hear the guests in the garden, the conversation, the string ensemble tuning in their instruments, the caterer going about their business in the kitchen, and somewhere, I could also hear Simon, greeting the guests.

I hadn’t sneaked a peak, I wanted to keep it a surprise for me too. I waited patiently until Liza got the “go” that we could go downstairs. My dress was floor-length but no so long that I needed help to walk down.

At the bottom of the staircase, stood Gerard in a grey suit. His beard was trimmed for the occasion and he had a little moisture in his old eyes as he saw me coming down the stairs.

“You look beautiful” he said, a smile spreading on his wrinkled face. “If someone had told me back then that I would be free and giving you away at your wedding, I would have said that they are crazy”

I chuckled at that and hugged him lightly. “I’m happy this world is a little crazy just for these moments” I answered with a smile. He nodded knowingly, then offered me his arm. The music started playing and Nathalie and James paired up to walk the aisle first, then Liza and Simon’s friend, John.

It was my turn. Gerard patted my hand and started to walk me towards the ceremony.

In stories, sometimes, they say that “the only thing I could see was him standing down the aisle”? We all think it is fairly ridiculous, romanticized and extremely cheesy. I have the regret to inform you that it is true.

I suddenly forgot the music, the people, the dresses and suits, the flowers, even the air I should have breather because Simon was standing there, waiting for me. He was smiling in his beautiful black tux, his eyes sparkling with joy and love. He only had eyes for me and I only had eyes for him. Gerard gave me away and went to sit down in the assembly.

“You’re…absolutely…” commented Simon, looking at me like it was the first time.

“You too” I answered in a whisper.

The ceremony started and we exchanged vows, rings and a breathtaking kiss in front of everyone. Then, we left aside the emotional part of the day for the fun part of it. Everyone we knew was gathered for a fun evening of dancing, eating and drinking (well, not for me). Alpha’s from everywhere had come, as a diplomatic gesture, but Collins and Cassandra were there too, with their latest baby, a lot of shifters where there, our entire pack had been invited, little pups were running around everywhere.

To allow everyone to enjoy the party a little bit, we had arranged for the guards on the borders to be replaced every two hours during the whole night. We wanted everyone to share the event with us.

Once Simon and I had eaten, we opened the ball for everyone in a lovely dance. I couldn’t really dance to save my life but Simon was an amazing conductor and just being in his arms made me feel secure and loved. It was all I could ask for. His hand was never leaving mine, my waist or the small of my back, ever since the ceremony, and I loved the proximity.

After a few dances, he proposed we took a break and I decided to jump at the chance.

“Actually, I have something to show you” I said, pulling him by the hand.

I followed Enna to the garden where a few partygoers were breathing some fresh air and smoking. Some children were playing on the grass, screaming and laughing innocently.

She pulled me towards the part of the garden where my mother keeps her flowers and sat me on a bench. It was a little secluded and decorated with fairy light for tonight’s event. It was very romantic and Enna looked absolutely stunning in the soft light.

“What’s going on?” I asked, sitting next to her, keeping her hands in mine as she sat sideways to face me.

“There are thirty-six ways to do this, so I’ll just say it….” she started then, fell silent.

“Enna, you’re scaring me…what’s going on?” I asked as her face displayed intense concentration and an internal conflict. The idea that she’d ask for divorce now popped into my mind. Maybe she didn’t want to be a Luna, maybe she didn’t want the responsibilities, and now that she was confronted to the pack and the alphas all at once, she might feel overwhelmed.

“If you dislike the party, we can go you know. We don’t have to stay if you feel overwhelmed…” I started but she shook her head immediately.

“No! It’s not that. God, you’re really the loveliest person I could even meet. It’s not the party and it’s not the wedding, and it’s not you. It’s just….” She stopped and then took a huge breath in and out.

“Ok, so I learned something a little while ago and I didn’t tell you, because I wanted to make sure you know…but now, I’m sure and I need to share with you.” She explained, her voice displaying symptoms of stress.

“What’s wrong? You have to tell me” I asked worried, squeezing her hands lightly with mine.

“Nothing’s wrong” she said with a chuckle. “Just stop it” she smiled. “Everything is fine. That’s what I’m trying to tell you. Everything is fine. It’s so fine that I’m pregnant. We’re going to be parents” she said, tears falling down her face suddenly.

It took me a second to register the information.

“Parents? Us? You mean…now? You’re pregnant, now?” I asked.

She simply nodded, more tears leaking out of her eyes as she smiled brightly to me.

“How? No, I don’t even care to know.” I answered, pulling her to me to kiss her cheeks, her nose, her mouth, her neck.

“We’re going to be parents” I repeated, just to make myself believe it. My heart had swollen to the size of a basketball, I felt elated.

“Nathalie and Liza know, they took me to the doctor…I wanted to be sure” she explained, drying her tears with her fingers.

“Next time, tell me.” I answered. “I want to be your support for everything”

“Next time?” she laughed.

“If you can have babies, I swear I’ll make you a whole lot of them” I answered, pulling her to me to kiss her. She leaned in, her hands coming to my face, soft and slightly cold.

“I love you” I said after I pulled back.

“I love you” she answered with a smile.

“I’m going to be a dad” I sighed and sat back. I was taking a little moment to realize.

“Can I tell everyone?” I asked sitting up and looking at the face.

She shook her head. “No, I want to tell your mom and Cassandra first”

“Oh, yeah, you should tell my mom but only if a doctor is nearby. I fear she’s going to have a stroke” I joked and she laughed.

I sighed again, pulling her against me to hug her, kissing her hair.

“We’re going to be parents” I repeated once again.

== Enna’s POV ==

Simon promised not to tell anyone except James until I had talked to Cassandra and Lara, so I made my mission to hunt the two ladies down immediately and pulled them in a secluded sitting room.

“Why did you bring us here?” asked Cassandra, sitting down heavily on one of the couches. “Sorry, I’m so tired, with the baby and all” she said with a yawn.

“Oh poor thing, but he’s so cute!” commented Lara.

“I know, I’m so happy! Our first boy!” she said with excitement.

I cleared my throat. I was the only one standing up in the room, and I was fidgeting. Why was announcing something happy so hard?

“Sorry Enna” said Cassandra with a little pout.

“What did you want to tell us?” asked Lara, giving me all of her attention now.

“I already told Simon, but I thought I should tell you before I told the rest of the people here tonight…” I started. They both looked at me very intensely, if it wasn’t for the party somewhere in this big house, the silence would have been deafening.

“I’m pregnant” I simply stated with a smile.

There was a moment of silence, then Lara screamed.

“I TOLD YOU SHE WAS PREGNANT!!!” screamed Cassandra. The two women were now holding hand, jumping in the couch until they rose to hug me, still screaming in my ears.

“I’m going to be a grandma!” yelled Lara, squeezing me, then letting go suddenly. “I can’t squeeze you to tight!” she said pulling back. “What about the baby? How far along are you? Is it a boy or a girl?” she bombarded me.

“7 weeks, and it’s too early to tell yet”, I explained.

Cassandra hugged me again. “I’m so happy for you two” she said, a bright smile illuminating her face.

“Tonight is the best night ever” added Lara with a huge sigh. “You just made me the happiest mother-in-law and grandma in the world”

It was my turn to hug her. “I’m happy that you are here” I told her, new tears falling on my face.

After a moment, I dried my tears and took a lungful of air. “I need to go. Simon is somewhere pacing, he can’t wait to tell everyone that he’s got me pregnant” I laughed.

Lara laughed too and gave me a little pat in the back. “I recognize my son there”

I made it out of the room and tried to find Simon. He was in his office with James, Nathalie and Liza. The three of them hugged me, congratulating us again on the wedding and the baby.

“Thank you” I barely had the time to answer before Simon pulled me to him by the wrist.

“Can we go tell everyone now?” he asked, impatiently but with happiness spread all over his face.

“We can” I said with a little chuckle.

We made our way to the party, the guests parting to let us through.

Simon made us stop at the center of the dancefloor and everyone fell silent. The music was cut and he cleared his voices

“Friends, Family, Allies and Pack Members. Enna and I have an announcement to make…” he started but then he looked at me and gave me a little nudge with his elbow. It took me a second to understand that he wanted me to say it.

“We’re expecting a child” I announced.

The room broke into applause, with people cheering, other whistling.

It was truly a happy day.
