== Simon’s POV ==

Despite being nearly blinded by Enna’s claws, Allan managed to grab her and throw her away from his face. The bird hit a nearby tree, and she shifted back into her human form.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” he yelled, standing up to march up to her.

I threw myself forward to grab his ankle with my good arm, effectively making him trip. He fell face first in the leaves and mud of the forest’s ground. One the surprise of the tumble wore off, he roared in anger, turning around to see me, laying in the floor, my clawed hand wrapped around him, making his skin bruise and bleed.

“All of this is your fault!” he spat at me. He kicked me in the face, freeing his leg. He stood up rapidly, marching up to me. With a painful howl, I let him kick me in the ribs multiple times, feeling them crack under the blows.

“STOP!” screamed Enna’s voice.

“You’re defending him?!” he yelled back at her. “I am your mate, I am your love!”

“You were my mom’s mate! HE is mine!” she answered. “I am not my mother. Look around you. You’re killing your old pack, your son is injured, all of this for a woman who already died.”

“NO!” he screamed again, “You’re her, I know you are, The Commander….”

“The Commander lied. He had me captured, he had my mother killed.” She answered calmly, walking forward a little, trying to calm Allan down. I had only just noticed that she was naked, totally, fully naked. She didn’t seem to mind much at that moment, she was mostly focused on Allan.

“You are lying. Why would you do this? You love me.” He said, flames dancing in his eyes.

“No. I love him.” She said simply, pointing at me.

It was a terrible idea because suddenly, he screamed. It was chilling, it seemed to come from despair, sadness, pain and anger, all at once, he looked up at the skin, but when his gaze came back to me, his face was contorted, red with anger.

“I don’t know what you did to her, but I WILL KILL YOU!”

He raised his hand, shifting it to have his claws out. I knew he was aiming for my throat, I knew I would very well die within the next few seconds, that even Enna wouldn’t be able to save me, but I couldn’t look at that hand, all I could think about was my beautiful mate standing a few meters away. I thought that at least, the last thing I would see was her.

His hand came down, but Enna moved, so fast, a glint of silver in her hand. She threw herself forward, onto Allan’s back. A second later, he stopped moving, his hand coming up slowly to touch his throat where a little stream of blood was running down onto his torso. Some blood filled his mouth and he didn’t have time to say anything, he fell to the ground, as Enna stumbled back, away from his limp body.

My eyes turned to her, she threw the blade she held onto the ground, before she ran to me, sliding onto her knees at my side on the forest’s ground. She grabbed me, burring her face in my chest, I could feel her sobbing.

“She killed him?” asked an unshifted (and obviously naked) man under The Commander’s order. A few other of them arrived, surrounding us. I took me all of my will power to shift back onto my wolf, keeping Enna safe underneath and behind my body. I wouldn’t be able to battle them, but I would rather have a set of sharp teeth and claws than just being naked in the forest.

The man approached Allan’s body and shook it. Allan was gone.

“Leave his body” ordered a voice. Collins came, walking straight to the man. “And leave my woods.”

As the battle took place, I hadn’t notice that we had been winning. If it hadn’t been for the reinforcement that came to help us, we would probably all be dead, but most of the free Commander’s man were here, looking at Allan’s body, a few were tied up, and the rest laid dead or wounded.

“Take your wounded with you, or we’ll just kill them” he said.

The man nodded, carefully taking a few steps back, keeping his eyes on Collins before they fled, and helping only the wounded who would walk.

The witch broke apart from the ranks behind Collins to approach us. I growled at her, but she gave me that motherly “don’t even try little boy” look, that my mom gave me sometimes. Out of her magic escaped a blanket that looked warm and soft, she covered Enna with it before stepping away.

I shifted back to my human form, Enna looked like a mess, huge dark circles under her eyes, her hair like a bird’s nest, she also had blood and mud all over her body. “You look like a hot mess” I told her in a chuckle.

“I’m not the one who broke half the bones in my body” she said. She wrapped herself in the blanket before standing up. One of Collins’ man started to hand out underwear and shorts for the man, I took one. She walked up to Collins who was standing near his father’s body, looking down at him.

“I’m sorry” she said, putting her hand on his arm. “He would have killed Simon” she said.

Collins turned to her with a little smile but I could tell his eyes were moist. “I know. I already grieved him. My dad died when he left our pack to hunt for your mother. This isn’t my dad, it’s the monster who took over him.” He squeezed Enna’s forearm before turning around. Stumbling through the woods came his mate, Cassandra, with her guards and my mother.

“We heard it was over” said Cassandra before she spotted Allan’s body. She rushed to hug her mate, tucking his head against her body. He hugged her back. Enna came back to me, I had trouble standing, my leg was still bleeding, I had various bones broken, and despite healing fast, I was in quite a lot of pain. “I’m sorry” she said her eyes filled with tears, “I don’t think I can heal you right now”.

“It’s ok” I said, caressing her face, “you are safe, I’m alive, and it’s over.” She smiled at me before kissing me, trying not to put pressure anywhere else on my body because I was full of bruises and breaks. My mom came up to us and hugged the both of us, not caring at all about my cracked ribs.

“We need to stop the bleeding” said Enna, pointing at my legs. “I won’t have your survive battle just to bleed out” she said. Collins’ pack was already on it, a lot of people came over to help with the wounded, and the dead. Enna’s shifter’s friends helped too, some were wounded but other had great gifts, similar to Enna’s. He friend, Gerard, made a makeshift huge stretcher, on which he could carry 5 people out of the woods at the same time. The access by car was nearly impossible.

Enna had me sent to the made up hospital, letting my mother take care of our pack’s business.

== Enna’s POV ==

War. It isn’t pretty. Although I was happy Simon was alive, and the people I loved were alive, I could see so much blood tainting the ground, and so many lives escaping this world. War didn’t feel like a success, it felt like it had been the better option.

When the blade had appeared in my hand, a witch’s gift, I didn’t hesitate a second. It was Allan or Simon, and it was Simon. I has, is and will always be Simon. There is no other option.

Simon was still in the hospital, he insisted he didn’t need stitches but I knew better, and forced him to stay. I visited Nathalie too, although she had to stay out of the battle, she was now doing much better. Her sister, Liza, was with her. It seemed like they hadn’t seen each other in a while.

It took two days to clean the woods, two days after which the pack had a big ceremony, to bury their dead. Everyone was dressed in black, Cassandra had lend me some clothes, and delegations from other packs came to pay their respects.

Simon had been busy with Collins. They were going to reforge the alliance, and have a more effective emergency system, not only to protect their packs, but also the others.

At the end of those few days, I was exhausted. Simon and I came back to our room after the funeral’s diner and I just let myself fall onto the bed. We hadn’t seen much of each other since the end of the battle. He climbed next to me, pulling my body to his. Thanks to his fast healing abilities, he only had a few fading bruises and a red scar on his tight.

“You’re tired?” he asked, kissing my forehead.

“These past few days have been…long and tiring”, I answered, playing with the collar of his button up shirt.

“I wanted to ask you something” he said. Under my fingers, I could feel his heart pace quicken, I looked up to see him looking around like a shy kid.

“What’s going on?” I asked, pulling away from him to sit back.

“Nothing bad, I just…” he started. He seemed to look for the exact words before his eyes landed on me and he smiled. “It’s not really something us, wolves do, we usually mate and that’s it but I figured, it was probably different for other shifters so…a while back, when we were at our house, I asked my mom and she said it would be a great idea, now you don’t have to, I don’t know, maybe it’s not, and maybe it’s not the right time but…”

“Simon” I called. He looked up to me again, his cheeks slightly red, which didn’t exactly match with his stature. “You can just go straight to the point…” I said with a kind, reassuring smile.

He nodded and took in a deep breath. “Will you marry me?”
