《》Chapter 38

== Simon’s POV ==

The forest was eerily quiet as the battle was only minutes away. We couldn’t yet see them as we camped in our positions. We were only hoping the keep the women and children safe, many causalities were to be expected. We had called neighboring packs as reinforcement, but only the Moon Goddess could tell when they would come.

The men, most of them already shifted into wolves were on edge, ready for blood and battle. As the silhouettes of the enemy appeared, the order was given. Our troops and their troops engaged.

We reached the front gate as if we were just other workers. For some reason, it was wide open and we stepped out. For the first time ever, I saw the enormity of the place I had been kept in. When I escaped the first time, I hadn’t looked back or stuck around long enough to look at it. I was a huge block of concrete with little windows, some of the floors were windowless, like the cell I had been kept in.

“They keep it hidden under a spell, from the head witch” explained Liza as she strolled out as if it was normal.

“I feel bad to leave, I want to free all of them” I answered in a whisper.

“Don’t worry about it, Marta is not coming with us, she’ll take care of them” explained Liza as the chirpy huge woman gave me a thumbs up.

“On you own?” I asked Marta. She laughed at my question.

“Aw, you’re so cute” she said, “Of course not, silly! The resistance is far wider than just me and Liza” she answered with a big smile.

“The resistance?” I asked as we cleared out enough to see the concrete fortress disappear behind its magical shield.

“When Nathalie asked me to sneak in and get intel, and probably end up looking out for you, I called some of my old friends. Turns out, they were infiltrating the place too, trying to break it apart in an effort to make the Commander fall. I asked to join their mission with Marta and they accepted. They will free the other shifters during the attack. It should be soon, you should go” she told Marta.

The girl nodded, hugging Liza tightly, and then me before waving goodbye and disappearing behind the shield.

“What about us?” I asked Liza.

“We’ll meet up with the resistance. They gathered up some troops to help with the attack” she answered, moving forward.

“Where do they come from?”

“Rogues, mostly” she shrugged, “like me”.

“You’re a rogue? But you’re Nathalie’s sister, why aren’t you…”

“In a pack?” she interrupted me. “You saw what I can do” she shrugged. “A lot of rogues have special abilities like me. Packs are dangerous for us, they would misuse our powers or enslave us. Most choose exile over a life as a servant” she answered.

“Simon’s pack isn’t like that” I answered, walking faster to walk beside her.

“How would you know, you’re not even a wolf” she said, bitter.

“Precisely. I’m a shifter, and the Alpha’s mate. I also happen to know other wolves in the pack with abilities, though Simon never ask them anything” I answered. “But I respect your and your peers’ choice. I can understand how freedom can feel…relieving” I said with a smile.

Liza smiled back then pointed forward. “We have to walk there, we’re meeting in a cave in those hills”.

“Why in a cave?” I asked.

“You’ll see!” she answered with a smile, starting to walk forward a little faster.

I joined Collins, both of us were in Human form, trying to direct out men to the right places, but Collins’ fathers army was outnumbering us at least 3 to 1, and the arrival of Alpha McKannt with some men and women warriors didn’t help.

“This is a massacre” told Collins to me, his teeth clenched.

Behind him, a silhouette appeared, Collins turned around following my burning gaze. “Father?” he asked the man standing a hundred meters away. I didn’t need more information, I let my wolf consume my Human body.

== Enna’s POV ==

Before we could reach the hills, we were stopped by a look out who escorted us to the meeting place. In that cave were pressed together about a hundred of men and women, all of them looked fairly beaten up, not by battle, but by years spend in the woods. They all had piercings and tattoos and outfits made out of different materials that didn’t fit together. I felt terribly out of place in my military style uniform.

Liza walked straight to an older man, he looked in his fifties, his white hair only covering half of his head. He looked rather thin, but his eyes were blue like crystals and I immediately recognized him. “Gerard?” I asked, emotions swelling up in my throat.

The old man turned to me, his eyes growing wider. “My little Enna, it’s good to see you” he answered. We both crossed the space between each other, letting myself be embraced by the man I considered as my second father.

“I thought you were dead” I said, tears clouding my vision as I traced the lines of the old man’s face.

“Ahah no, you gave me courage. The resistance helped me escape, and I’ve been helping them free the others since then!” he answered hugging me tightly again. “It’s so good to see you, we lost your trace” he said.

“I joined a pack” I answered, my body shaking from the emotions. A few murmurs followed my last statement, I forgot that I was among rogues. “I’m an Alpha’s mate” I explained to Gerard and whoever was listening.

“I thought we couldn’t mate with other species of shifters” asked a male in his forties.

“I’m not the only one” I answered, “It’s kind of a long story. My mate and his pack, they will not hurt you if you shift in something else or have an ability” I said. “They know about it”

Gerard looked into my eyes for a moment before the frown left his face. “I believe you, you’ll explain later. We should go and join the fight. We will all be wearing a white item, so they can recognize us.” He explained, handing me a white ring.

“How are we getting there?” I asked.

“I believe, this is my task” said a female’s voice. I turned around and met the gaze of the witch, the one who had given me my special dress, the one who helped me escape.

“You!” I said.

“I’m happy to see you are still alive, Enna of the birds” she said, slowly bowing her head in a salute.

“Lady Calahan has been working with us since you left” explained Gerard, “I must say, having a witch on our side is very practical”

“Are you all ready?” she asked the group.

“LET’S GO KICK SOME ASS!!” screamed Gerard in response, followed by everybody else’s scream.

Finally !

I must let you in on some news, obviously this story is coming to an end, there's only a few chapters left until the end credits.

A second book is possibly going to be available in the future but not right away as I want to focus on something else first.

I'm going to start posting an other story first.

You can already go and check out the summary and preface, it's called "I've never been into astronomy".

It is going to be a contemporary story with romance and comedy (it's in the Teen Fiction category here on wattpad). I've never written in that genre before so it is a little bit of a personal challenge.

Obviously, no wolves in that story but I'm not going to forget my love for werewolves any time soon, so if you are interested, I would advise you to subscribe to my profile.

I will probably mention it again in a future 'end of chapter' message if you don't want to check it out now.
