== Enna’s POV ==

I couldn’t feel my feet and I was shivering. My sweater was barely keeping me warm and in the dim light, I could see my breath forming little clouds in front of my face. I thought it was bad, when it started to rain, quickly drenching my clothes, seeping coldness all the way into my bones.

I thought about moving, about walking to warm myself up, find a more appropriate shelter, but I couldn’t. My mind was already delirious with fever and the darkness overcame me.

It took both James and Collins to keep me from shifting. Cassandra had been swept away as soon as Collins had seen my anger, but now that I was sitting, still shaking but not on the edge of shifting, she was allowed back in the room. She was white as a sheet.

“We have to get her back” she told her mate in a resolved it’s-not-up-for-debate tone. I looked up at her to catch Collins looking at her questioningly. She barely had met Enna this morning and she wasn’t the kind to ask Collins to send their men into battle. She looked at him in the eyes with determination. “She saved our baby, we owe her. If you don’t get her back, I will be mad at you until the end of eternity. I hope I was clear.” Collins sheepishly nodded.

“But how, we have no idea where she is. Our men followed her footsteps into the forest but her scent wasn’t lingering anymore, and with the rain starting, we’ll never find her” stated James. While I had lost my mind for a little bit, he had kept his cool. He made sure Nathalie was transported to the clinic where it was assessed that she had been drugged and he sent our guards with some of Collins to check out the woods. I wish I had gone myself, but I was still on the verge of taking off someone’s head. That’s when it came back into my mind.

“Where is your beta?” I asked Collins. The Alpha frowned, looking around. I guess he had sort of thought he would be around, but we hadn’t seen him for a while.

“MARTIN!” he shouted, which was weird because he should have been able to mind-link his beta. The young man emerged from the kitchen, a relaxed attitude in his body, like he didn’t have a care in the world. “Why did you close your mind-link?” asked Collins. The Beta shrugged. “Are you all done with freaking out?” he asked in return.

“Enna is missing, idiot. Of course, we’d freak out” answered Cassandra. I had never noticed how the Alpha’s mate seemed to dislike Martin, but just the way they were looking at each other now made it obvious.

“Why do you care? She’s the real freak here” he stated with another shrug, letting himself drop into one of the arm chairs. A growl came from deep in my core. I could feel my fangs pointing out.

“Calm down, big dog. I have some information for you” he said with a smile. A sadistic smile.

Warmth. It is the first thing that woke me up.

I could feel my feet burning, like they do when they are really cold and you go in a warm place.

Then I felt my wrists.

Bound.

I jerked up, or at least I tried, but my shackles held me back.

Then I smelled him.

Attached to my examination table, I saw him hovering above me, a sick toothy smile floating on his mouth.

“Long time no see, sweetheart” he giggled.

I stopped breathing, tears rolling down my cheeks.

“Simon” I pleaded in my head.

Martin was sitting in the armchair like a king, his legs crossed, his hands laced under his chin, a knowing smile on his lips, scrutinizing his public like they were his preys.

“You should start talking” ordered Collins.

Although the beta was playing smart, I could see him loose a little of his composure under his Alpha’s command. He sighed deeply, unlacing his fingers to look at his wrist watch.

“You have exactly fifteen minutes to get ready. The attack will start.”

Both Collins and Cassandra growled at the statement, Martin smiling even wider.

“What about Enna?” I asked, ready to pounce on the Beta and chew his face off.

“He took her. Said they have loads of catching up to do. She shouldn’t have ran away, I think he will need to punish her for her foolish actions” he almost laughed.

I was held back by James, my fist merely an inch away from the Beta’s face. He hadn’t stopped laughing. “Don’t worry if you break my bones. He promised Enna would have to fix me.” His eyes gleamed with perversity and evil. Collins interposed himself between me and his, probably now ex, beta.

“Why?” he asked his beta. His face serious and calm. “Why in the world would you side with my father?”

“Good deduction. Why, you ask? Why don’t you ask him and his filthy mate?” he spat at his Alpha, pointing at me. I growled, what the fig was he talking about. “I have no idea what you mean” I stated, still ready to take his head off.

“You and your mate killed my mate!” he yelled at me. We never killed women, except if they had committed a grave crime against the pack, which had never happened since I had been in charge. “I am very confused” I answered him, raising my eyebrows.

“The first time I met him. He showed me her body, he said she died on your pack land and he retrieved her body so he could show her to me” he said, oscillating between anger and crying.

“We don’t kill women” I answered angrily, “and Enna never even killed anyone.”

“HER NAME WAS LEÏLA!!! YOU KILLED HER!” he screamed, pushing Collins out of the way to lunge at me.
