== Simon’s POV ==

I could feel Enna tense up at the question. She wasn’t as emotional as I thought she would get, but I couldn’t help to feel warmed at the fact that she didn’t leave my side and held onto me for support. I could really feel the bond between us. She frowned as if she was trying to think about it, trying to find an answer for Collins. She was looking at him, searching his face until her gaze dropped to the floor and she started to breathe a little faster, panic rising on her features.

“I don’t want to talk about it” she stated in a whispered but harsh tone before she stood up and left the room so fast, I could swear the wind was carrying her. Before anyone could react, the door closed behind her in a loud thud.

It was a if the room was suddenly relieved from tension and filled with confusion. Collins looked from me to my mom, to Martin. “Did I say something wrong?” he asked, seemingly genuinely worried. I didn’t even have to answer him, granted, I would probably have yelled at him because he had hurt her, even if it was by accident.

“This girl has seen far worse than you could imagine, Alpha Collins. Her parents have left this world a long time ago, I doubt it is easy for her to talk about it” answered my mom with a smile filled with compassion, both for Collins and Enna.

“I’ll go check on her” I answered, rising and following into Enna’s footsteps.

I found her in the kitchen, she was shaking, holding onto the island, her eyes fixated on a spot as if she was trying not to cry. Since I have known her, she had spent most of her time having to relive the hard times in her life so many times. She had found freedom just to be reeled back into the pit of darkness she had tried to escape. If we hadn’t found her, she might have been able to make a run for it, and be left alone forever. But we wouldn’t have found her. I wouldn’t have found her. I couldn’t bear to think of that. She was my mate, she was made for me. For better or for worse, we had been paired together, and I would rather be dead than not have her here with me. It was a bit of a selfish thought, but I didn’t care.

I stepped closer, circling my arms around her waist and pressing her back against my chest. I didn’t say anything, I just held her until she relaxed into me and rested her hands onto my forearms.

“I’m sorry” she said, “I just lost it for a moment. I needed a break.” She sighed and I rested my chin on her shoulder.

“I know, and no one is going to hold you accountable for that. You didn’t have an easy life and I’m not going to pressure you into telling everything to a man you barely met” I answered.

She let me rock her gently, still resting in my arms. I could feel that she was feeling better and when she was ready, she spoke again.

“Do you trust him?” she asked, her question obviously about Collins.

“He’s a good person. His pack has been allied with mine for a long time. He helped me, and he came here when he heard we were attacked. I think he is a good man.” I answered. You can never be certain of anyone’s inner thoughts but Collins had never left a doubt in my mind so far. He seemed sincere even now.

“Maybe, we should go back?” she asked, resolve in her voice. I nodded, letting go of her waist. She turned around and reached up to kiss my lips softly. Her amazing scent lingering in the air. Her eyes expressed so much at that moment, I couldn’t even put words on how she looked at me. She gently caressed my cheek, still looking at my face. Then she sighed and took my hand to head back to the office.
