《》Chapter 19

== Simon’s POV ==

I left her asleep in bed. She was safe here, mom said she would keep both eyes on her, Nathalie too. She stirred a little, waking enough to give me a little goodbye kiss before falling asleep almost immediately. She looked so peaceful with her face laid on my pillow and her long locks spilled all over the place. If only I couldn’t see that scar on her neck that remembered me of her pain. I had mind linked James before falling asleep, telling him to organize a meeting with all of the Alphas of the surrounding packs and to ask Alpha Collins if we could do it on his territory.

I had come back from a meeting with him last night. If he was the trigger, there would be evidences on his land. His pack had been allied with ours for generations and he always seemed like a great guy, almost a friend to me, but people always have secrets. He had accepted.

I needed to leave her alone, but she was reasonably safe. It’s unlikely they knew she was here, the wolves we kept alive from the attack said they were looking for something in the woods, rather conducting a full blown attack on the pack. As soon as they knew, it would come, but so far, she was safe. The security had been upgraded a level though, especially around the pack house. Lara and Nathalie also had strict order not to bring her outside in the woods, especially not on the eastern part. They could catch her smell and find her.

It was still dawn when I got to Collins’ pack borders. It only took an hour and a half of running, and I wasn’t too tired. James was with me too. I told him to look for “anything suspicious and hidden”. He clearly looked at like it was an odd demand but he didn’t question me. James was way too smart for that, he probably knew it was about her.

One of Collins’ pack member came forward with two sets of clothes and showed us to a sort of shed, to change. As soon as we came out, Alpha Collins was out of his pack house, walking towards us.

“Welcome on my pack land. What’s the emergency?” he asked.

He was also a young Alpha, barely in his thirties. We were the same height but his looks and mine where totally different. He was pale as aspirin, and had piercing blue eyes, like polar ice. His hair was black and short. He shook my hand, looking at my face to find answers.

“There was a situation on my land last night, it has to do with these attacks” I explained.

As we walked inside the pack house, I could see that most of the other Alpha’s were already there. My pack wasn’t particularly superior to theirs, but we had formed alliances a long time ago, and to us, it was a duty to honor them. We had helped most of these packs in History and they also had pledged allegiance to us. I got along with most of these Alphas both on a professional and a personal side.

The chatter in the room stopped as soon as I stepped in. James hadn’t followed me, he was going to check out around the property while pretending to talk with other betas and guards, none of which were welcomed in this reunion.

“As some of you might have heard, my pack has been under attack a couple of times lately. It was a group of rogues wolves, witches, and vampires. They injured and killed some of my men with a rare and incurable disease”

It was a lie, but if I told them they had lived and were cured, the culprit would likely know that she was alive and staying in my bed.

“From the captive we made, it is likely that my pack will be attacked again. These attackers are most likely crossing some of your lands to come to mine, and I need to know if any here has information’s”

“Do you know why they are coming to your land?” asked Alpha Frankson.

“From what we know, they are looking for something they lost in the woods. There is nothing in those woods, I have men patrolling at all times and none of them has seen anything, not even a needle.”

“I’ve heard rumors…” said a female voice. Jenna McKannt. She’s the only Alpha female in the area, as tough as any man though. “One of our pack member said she saw vampires on our territory. She’s only ten, she got scared, ran home and told her parents. When my men got on sight, the smell was faint, definitely traveling towards the western part of our borders. They didn’t create any problems on my land.”

“We picked up a few faint smells but nothing more” added Alpha Olf.

Both him and Jenna were eastern from us, but their borders didn’t touch mine, unlike Collins.

“They didn’t come through my land. I know our borders touch and they should but they kept clear of my space”

It put him out of suspicion, whatever the smell was that triggered Enna’s reaction, the people looking for her were far more to the east than I thought, still, they avoided Collins’ territory.

“Can any of you call me if you get anything? I need to make sure my pack is safe” I added.

All agreed, and we broke off into friendly talks, eating and drinking like a cocktail party. Collins approached me with a smile. “I’m sorry you didn’t get anything more from today’s meeting”

“I was hoping for more but you never know…” I answered shrugging.

“A little bird told me that you found your mate” he murmured just for me to hear. Obviously, I hadn’t made the announcement yet. I only nodded until an idea popped into my mind.

“Yes, you should come visit some time, I will present her to you. She’s a little shy, she doesn’t like to travel to other packs”.

When he visited, if he met her, we would directly know. If it is him, I would tear his head off before he can even greet her. If it’s not, he might help me with her torturers.

He nodded with a smile. “I will surely do. I also happen to love your mother’s cooking. I’m happy you found her, I couldn’t bear to see you married with Ashley. No offense to James, but she isn’t Luna material.”

“What about your mate?” I asked with a smile. I was pretty certain he knew about mine because of his mate, Cassandra. She was very friendly to my mom and they probably had talked on the phone. She was also in her early thirties, a very quiet woman. She was so petite, it was hard to believe she could even carry children. Nonetheless, she was pregnant with their third.

“She’s so pregnant, I’m not sure she can still walk” he joked.

The rest of the meeting went like this. I was honestly itching to go home to my mate, and hear about what James might have found out.
