《》Chapter 18

== Enna’s POV ==

Sunlight woke me up. I stretched finding out that I was alone in bed. I could vaguely remember him getting up at dawn and telling me he had pack stuff to do. He had spent most of the night holding me, he wasn’t even one bit repulsed by the appearance of my back. It was strange. I had spent, what felt like most of my life, in a prison cell, surrounded by vile men and their abuses, but Simon was the polar opposite. We had a few rough encounters at the beginning but he was so caring and compassionate. It was hard to believe he was the Alpha of a pack, if it wasn’t for his build. I didn’t have the opportunity to see him being an Alpha much. I had seen him only around his mother, James and what’s-her-face, who were all, sometimes disappointedly, close to him.

I got ready quickly, the little monster I used as a stomach was angrily shouting at me to go get some food, so I obliged, skipping down the steps barefoot in a dress I had found in his closet. It wasn’t as long as my black one, but it reached the middle of my calf. I hadn’t been around much lately to know about what I should wear but it was pretty decent in my opinion.

I had to cross through the living-room/lobby of the house to get to the kitchen, but I stopped before entering the room. I heard someone speak my name.

“What’s her deal anyway? What’s her name, Enna?” asked a rather nosily voice.

“I don’t know, but she’s some kind of crazy witch or something. She’s got MY Simon to believe that she’s HER mate! She’s not even a wolf! Plus she’s totally ugly. Seriously, I think she was raised in the jungle or something. Plus, she’s totally crazy. Last night, I came by to claim my rightful place in his bed but she was on the ground, shaking and screaming like a hurt puppy. Just to get his attention. She’s a fake psycho whore and she’ll get Simon over MY-DEAD-BODY” explained Ashley’s annoying voice.

Clearly, it was an invitation.

“What I have heard is that Simon totally rejected you and that you got slapped by Enna for calling her a slut” added another voice. I instantly recognized Nathalie’s voice, she sounded like she was enjoying herself.

“Rumors. Nobody can slap me, I’m Simon’s. Her head would be off!” scoffed Ashley.

I was wondering what to do. Should I just storm in and slap her again? Or maybe go yell at her? Not really my type. I sighed and just walked in with a smile on my face. The sight that welcomed me was…interesting. Sitting in the room were six girls, all around the same age as Ashley, all decked out in skinny jeans and cropped tops, showing generously their bodies. They all had sparkling jewelry on and make up. It wasn’t really ugly, it was just stuff I had never really experienced. They were sitting all around in sofas, drinking something out of cardboard cups with plastic lids that smelled like cinnamon. At the kitchen entrance, laying in the doorframe was Nathalie, a little smirk plastered on her face.

When Ashley saw me, she loudly snorted, rolling her eyes dramatically. “The fake whore is back” she murmured to her friends who giggled like school girls. I decided to be the bigger person and smiled. “Good morning girls!” I said, crossing the room as fast as I could, jumping over a leg that suddenly laid on my path and entering the kitchen like it was an ordinary morning.

Nathalie turned from the living room to face the kitchen, still staying by the doorframe. Simon’s mom wasn’t there so I grabbed some stuff in one of the fridge, mostly fruits, and made myself a cup of tea. “How are you feeling?” asked Nathalie. Her face held a slight frown, as if she was worried but couldn’t really push it.

“I guess Simon asked you not to ask” I answered with a little smile. I knew of Alpha’s orders. She could ask how I felt but not “what happened last night”. With a sigh, she nodded and came to sit by me. “There is like a pack-wide ban on talking to you about anything besides the weather and what food you want to eat. He’s going all protective Alpha on you. It’s cute but annoying because I want to ask you so bad.” She explained laying her head down on her forearms as if she was in pain or very sad about it.

“Trust me, it’s not that interesting” I answered, plopping a grape in my mouth.

“Oh no! Enlighten us!” said a voice behind our back. Of course, it was none other than miss Ashley and her friends. “We all want to hear about your pathetic excuses for why you are crazy and useless.”

“Well, if you were the last person on this planet, Ashley, I would still not tell you” I answered, getting out of my high chair to face her.

“Why would that be?” she asked, raising and eyebrow and crossing her arms. Totally giving me attitude.

“Because it KILLS you not to know why he will ALWAYS choose ME over YOU” I answered in a whisper. I heard her friends’ gasps and Nathalie’s little giggle. Honestly, she was the last thing in this world that would scare me. I had spent years in a freaking prison getting used and beat on, she’s a marshmallow compared to the people there. Plus, Simon was a good thing. If the Moon Goddess exists, she probably gave me the biggest reward for going through all of it just by putting him onto my path, I wasn’t going to let go of him, especially not for a silly girl’s school crush.

She was livid, literally, her face dropped at least one shade, which means tree because her face was covered with some tinted cream or something. I could see her biting her own tongue, probably trying to keep from punching me, because she knew what he would do to her if she did. Or maybe, she was pumping her venom, ready to attack me with words.

“That’s because he doesn’t know you are a witch and a totally psycho yet, but once he finds out, you’ll be out of here in a second” she spit back at me.

“ENOUGH” said Lara from behind Ashley and her clique. “I suggest you girls leave now, before I kick your butts out manu military”.

Ashley tssssked loudly, rolling her eyes before turning around and passing by Lara with a little smile, retreating to the living room. Her clique followed, well almost, one of them “”””tripped”””””, spilling her cup all over my dress. “Oh, I’m so sorry” she said almost giggling.

“OUT!” yelled Lara. Her eyes were black, she was obviously furious. Her frown disappeared when her eyes laid on me. “I’m sorry you have to deal with these” she said apologetically, “are you ok?”

I nodded with a smile. “Yeah, definitely not the worse I’ve met. I just really need to get changed now”, I said looking at my dress. It was a disaster, there was a huge brown stain in the middle of it, with smears of cream.

“Attack of the Pumpkin Spice Latte. That’s a first in pack history” joked Nathalie. Lara sent her a warning glare but with a little smile. Those two did get along really well. Thankfully, Ashley and her minions had left the house when I went to change. I got back to find Lara and Nathalie in the living room, talking.
