《》Chapter 6

== Enna's POV ==

That boy was hilarious. Wolves were all the same with their mates, and he didn’t see at all that I was playing him not to give any answers. The bond was making him a very bad Alpha with me, but once his face was close to mine, it made me wonder. Would I settle for this? If the bond existed, does it mean it was meant to be? Or do I get to choose? Would I really love him? Besides the obvious physical attraction that had led him to almost crush me under him. I didn’t have any of the answers, and I would obviously not get them today as the door flew open.

James was standing right there, he didn’t even take in our position before he looked at the Alpha with alarm in his eyes. “There was an attack on the eastern border” he stated urgently. Simon’s weight was suddenly pulled off me as I instantly found myself standing right next to him. He didn’t even ask any question, James automatically filled him in. “They weren’t rogues. Well, the reports I got said that there were wolves but also witches”. Simon growled and I felt it as he still held me close to his body. “They seemed surprised to see our guards, they weren’t there to attack, they were looking for something.” His eyes trailed on me, I felt Simon pull me even closer to him.

“None of our men was killed but some are pretty badly injured. They were brought back here only a minute ago but the doctor just mind linked me to tell me that he didn’t know what to do…”

“I know” I said before my mind could stop my mouth. I felt their eyes look at me as I looked at the tips of my socks. I inhaled some air before looking up. “Lead me to them” I said, detaching myself from Simon’s body with a quiet regret. He didn’t let me go, he pulled me back and looked me straight in the eyes. “Why should I let you see them? You could kill my men.”

I chuckled. “For all I know, they are the ones who found me in the woods and saved me. Besides, I was running away and hiding. I’m not the one who attacked your pack. And…” I didn’t finish my sentence but I thought about it really loudly. “And you are my mate”. Nothing came out of my mouth, but Simon’s face seemed to slightly soften. He didn’t let go of me, but his hold was superficial as we followed James to the injured wolves.

The energy flow between the two of them was almost palpable. It was slightly uncomfortable. He was the worst out of the two because as an Alpha, his power was dominant. Hers was more like a soft breeze. People looked at us as we passed. Everyone knew of the attack, the day after a strange inhumane was brought in. People were on edge.

We reached the medical department. A few wolves were awake, sitting up on beds. We heal pretty fast so it was only a matter of hours for them to be perfectly fine, but behind the curtains, another scene was taking place. The doctor hurried to us, looking at Enna and then at Simon, then back on Enna. Everyone in the room could smell her.

“What’s going on?” asked Simon. The doctor made a head movement towards the closed curtains and we all looked behind. On tree tables were laying unshifted wolves, wounds on their body were bleeding and oozing greenish pus. All of them were comatose. “I don’t know what to do…” said the doctor.

“I do” whispered Enna.

I wasn’t planning to tell them about me, but I couldn’t let people die, especially because it was totally my fault. If we hadn’t run into this territory, they would never have looked for me here, and these wolves would be in good health, reunited with their families. There was no time to waste thinking it over.

“I will save them, but you need to make everyone leave this room” I said turning to Simon. He frowned as he searched my eyes to find his decision. “I will save them, but you all need to go, now. Or it will be too late.”

He nodded. “James, make everyone leave” he ordered.

In less than a minute, all the other patients and medical staff were out of the medical unit. I was left with the three wolves and Simon still by my side. “You need to go too” I told him in a softer tone.

He looked slightly hurt or disappointed, I reached for his cheek, letting my hand slide into his beautiful hair. I pulled his face close to mine. He smelled so good and the puppy look on his face made me want to give up everything for love, but I couldn’t. I quickly kissed his lips. “I will explain after, ok?” He looked surprised but didn’t argue. He left slowly, leaving a lingering trace of his smell.

I needed to get to work. I quickly let go of Simon and turned towards the wolves. They were badly hurt but I had healed worse. I focused on my core and let go of my human body.
