Flashback-
The girl laid in her room as she shook in sheer sadness. Her father was no longer with her and her mother... she hadn't even seen her since that day. Every time she tried to see if she would eant to come out and eat with her, the mother told her that she was busy, or faked being asleep. It hurt her, but she understood and eventually gave up on trying to seek comfort from someone who was equally damaged.
(Y/n) finally decided to get out of the house and see if the world outside had stopped spinning like she her's. When she stepped outside the breeze his her tear stained face and she headed to the mailbox. Everything seemed quiet, it was as if everyone knew she was going outside. She bolted for the mailbox, grabbed the mountain of letters, and ran back into her home to stay away from any human interaction. After running into the house and closing the door she looked over the letters. They were mostly from her classmates, wondering about her disappearance.
'(Y/n) we miss you! Get well soon.'
'Wish you were here with us!'
'Come to school soon. We'll be waiting for ya!' And many more.
(Y/n) couldn't feel any regret or sorrow, she could barely feel anything. She felt as if she'd cried out all her tears, and it felt like none of her friends would understand. She threw them on the table and walked up the stairs. As she she opened her door her mother grabbed her shoulder. "(Y/n).... I think its time to get out of this house."
Flashback-
Jason glared towards the ominous, yet familar, deep voice that made it's way out of the shadows. The dim light lit up the blonde male's features as mush as it could. "Thank me." He simply demanded. Jason rolled his eyes, though he would be lying if he wasn't relieved.
"Thanks, Trevor. Couldn't of done it without you." He replied sarcastically as he made his way towards the closet.
"They aren't in there." Trevor called out. Jason turned his head and looked at him as if he just called him stupid. "I took them out like you asked, Einstein."
"Yeah, thanks. I just wanted to check." Jason spat and turned around to go up the stairs.
"I didn't put those bodies there, by the way. That really was your fucked up dad.." The raven haired male paused in his tracks as the information set in. He sighed and walked up the stairs, Trevor following behind. Jason had asked him to take care of the bodies of Johnathan and Elvin. it appeared that he had made it just in time. As they neared the top he looked over his shoulder. "And don't tell the others, I've had enough for today." He spat as he walked away from the doorway. Trevor glared at the empty presence and shook his head. He didn't mind doing favors, and he knew how Jason was, but a little appreciation would have been nice. He then left the house and headed towards his own, which was being occupied by the boys.

Richie and Freddy sat in the living room and talked about a few things when the front door opened. The two sprung up and greeted the male. "Trevor! How's it going, bud?" Freddy smiled softly.
"Yeah where did you go?" Richie asked. Trevor slowly locked at the door and turned back. He knew he would have to lie, which wasn't ho's favorite thing to do to Richie.
"Visited a friend." He simply explained and started to walk away. Richie felt a ting of jealousy, as he thought they were his only friends.
"A friend...." The older boy softly whispered to himself. However, once he noticed Freddy looking st him in slight sorrow, he brushed it off. "I'm... gonna go check up on (Y/n) and Juliet!" Richie chirped and slipped out of the scene, making his way to the basement. He opened the door and heard a conversation taking place.
"Wait, so you had a crush on Trevor?" (Y/n) asked, trying to keep up with the blonde girl. Juliet had been trying so hard to forget anything outside of the walls. She didn't even care what happened to her anymore, she just wanted happiness. Conversation with the only other person in the room seemed to be distracting enough.
"More like... have." Juliet quickly laughed, though (Y/n) was truely shocked. Richie giggled. making himself known and causing the two to become tense and turn their attention to the new presence.
"You two seem to be getting along." he grinned at (Y/n), which sent chills down her spine. "I... came down to tell you guys what's gonna happen tomorrow!" They weren't happy by the news, and it was written all over their face. "Juliet, you're going to spend some time with Freddy and Trevor, since you like him!" He was trying to make them feel better, anything to get them to smile. Juliet eyes did happen to light up when he mentioned this, so he assumed he was cheering them up. He switched his gazed towards (Y/n). "And you, my little angel." he walked forward and out his finger under (Y/n)'s chin. "You're going to be spending the day with me!" She slightly relaxed, knowing Richie wouldn't do anything to hurt her, though her freedom would be much more appreciated. He smiled at her actions and celebrated in his mind, he really wanted to spend time with her. "But thats for tomorrow's agenda. Its getting late now." The two overall felt relieved that their time with the boy's was coming to end, at least for the day. Freddy promptly came down to begin their nightly routine of cleaning up and using the restroom.
When they had said goodnight, the girl's were left alone to themselves, and Juliet began to reflect on the day she was going to have tomorrow. "I haven't been alone with Freddy in forever..." She softly spoke, then smiled to herself at the thought of the three of them spending the day together. (Y/n) sat in confusion as to why they pick those specific people for the day, but she was just glad that she was going to be with the most tame of them all. And Juliet seemed to be fine with the ones she would spend time with. (Y/n) felt a bit of irony as she realized how normalized this was becoming to her. She felt as if she had no choice but to accept it until her next possible chance to escape.

My eyes slowly opened as I was greeted with a smiling face. I flinched back in fear as Richie giggled at my awakening. "Hello, sleepy head! You ready for our date?" I didnt want to hurt his feelings, although he did trap me in a basement, so I just nodded and looked down. He smiled and unchained me. "Come on, I have some fun stuff planned for us!" He sang as he pulled me up by my hand. He held it tightly, yet it didn't seem like he was holding onto me, more so it was a hand-grip that screamed Richie. It was still terrifying, knowing I couldn't run away, but it was a change from the squeeze of one of the other's. He skipped towards the stairwell, I tried to keep up as we went past Juliet. She was still asleep and the other's hadn't come down yet. As we made our way up the stairs, I felt like there was something wrong, like something was out of place. Richie opened the door and a breeze blew onto my skin and goosebumps soon made themselves apparent. It was almost rejuvenating to feel a fresh breeze. The back door was open and I contemplated running out, but there was no way to get out of here without being pulled back by one of them. But this was Richie. The one I was really afraid of finding out was Jason, what he had said, and what he would do.... 'He isn't here. I haven't seen him in a while, maybe he's out... This- This could be my chance.' I squeezed Richie's hand and he loosened his in surprise, and I took my chance. I ran towards the open back door, I'd think of what to do after I slam the door in his face and gain a couple of seconds. I could smell the freedom, just a few steps away- my a was yanked back and I swore it popped out my arm socket. I fell back and find my best to not break my arm in the process, and I heard a crack as I let out the slightest of whimpers. He had this strength that I never knew he had, and the dark chuckle sent shivers down my spine. "Your so cute (Y/n). What, going for a little jog? It wouldn't be that easy!" I loked up to see him cocking his head at me like a puppy, or that I... was the puppy.
"h-" I couldn't say anything, everything just ended up choking in me, and the words sticking to walls of my throat.
"Besides, sweetie. If you were to run away, we could all outrun you in a few seconds flat!" My heart sank, why was he being so scary "We can test it out if you want? You seem like you're dying for it." He grinned, and I felt as if I was dealing with Jason. It made me rethink everything, I couldn't take any of them lightly now. Richie picked me up and my arm cracked back into place. "Woops!" He giggled as he chuckled at my arm. "Go, go run away. See how far you can make it, how long you can feel it." He crossed his arms and his evil grin turned into something of a genuine smile.
I stood in my spot for a few seconds, trying to see if he was joking. But he stepped out of my way, and I slowly walked to the front door. I opened it to the world, the free world that I couldn't believe I was getting to see again. The rush of the smell of freedom, it forced my legs rolling move and I ran out the door. I didnt even bother checking for any of the other boys, or stopping in one of the houses, I was going to get out of here. My legs took me out of the yard and I could feel myself increasing in speed. Faster and faster, each step felt like my freedom was actually just one more footstep away
Until it wasn't. My eyes widened, tears soon filling them as my world distorted. I was tackled, full body tackled but I was pulled on top of my captor and we fell to the ground. His laughter was enough to drive me insane and his slightly heavier breathing was agonizing. He barely broke a sweat. "THAT WAS SO FUN!" He exclaimed. "Let's do it again sometime!" He crawled out from under me, he at least cushioned the fall but I still felt broken. "Alright, but enough of the exercise! Let's go to the actual place I wanted to take you to!" He lifted me up and I had no choice but to allow him to drag me along. My hope of escaping was becoming more and more of an unreachable dream.

Note: Slight edits to early chapters (and removal of one chapter - previously chapter 2) have been made 2/2/21 The city, my city, had once been alive in a way that was hard to describe. Thriving, active, hopeful. Vibrant. But life, as I had come to learn, sometimes possesses only the most tenuous of grasps. Finally, in the end, it became my city - mine alone. I was, after all, the only one left. Worse, it was entirely my fault. There was red in my ledger that could never be wiped clean. Not while I still lived, anyway. This story follows Eran, a man who became the opposite of everything he had ever wanted to be; in a world where superpowers began to appear in a rare few, his lack of control over his own power relegated him to the role of a terrible villain - the Reaper, named so for the countless lives that he absorbed and made his own, each only furthering his deadly lack of control. Gone mad with guilt and isolation, he strove for a single heroic act - his own demise. Death was less permanent than he hoped. Centuries later, he woke to a changed world and in a body not his own. Unfortunately, his power came with him. Yet this time, things would be different. This time, he had a chance to bring it under control. He could never truly make up for the things he had done; he could never achieve redemption. That wouldn't stop him from trying to be a hero. Witchbone: The Goblins Winter
Themes found in these stories include friendship, found family, defying negative expectations, trying to figure out how to be a force for good in your corner of the world, doing heroic things even if you don't look or feel like a hero, and that being different isn't necessarily fatal. Summary: A spell of arctic weather. A mysterious death. The reading of a will. Strange tracks in the snow. Eleven-year-old Danny Hallow accepts his life, such as it is. His father is dead, his mother left years ago. His three Keepers are the only people aware of Danny's erratic and not-very-impressive psychic abilities. He has no friends, he's been suspended from school, and he's responsible for the life of a small brown bat that's ended up in his care. When Danny's estranged Uncle Enoch dies under mysterious circumstances, he and his Keepers are called to the town of Eddystone, New Hampshire for the reading of the man's will. Traveling four hundred miles from his dreaded hometown to attend, Danny is happy to get away, possibly inherit something interesting- and maybe find out more about his family while he's there. Arriving at the crumbling family estate of Gnomewood Home, he finds it to be hauntingly familiar, a bit creepy, oddly comforting, and possibly alive. When his uncle's will reveals that he's inherited Gnomewood and everything in it, he's determined to stay and make a happier life for himself in Eddystone, somehow. But at Gnomewood, he finds more questions than answers to his family's secrets. Disturbing old memories come to him in dreams. His psychic abilities begin to grow stronger, and as a result he becomes aware that a horde of cryptic creatures are plaguing the town of Eddystone, seemingly drawn out by the spell of an unusually frigid February. Toothy little goblins that are sneaky, vicious, and hungry. Goblins that take a particular interest in Danny. Will the emergence of the alien, and potentially dangerous, power he's inherited from his peculiar family tree help Danny survive the goblin infested winter, inadvisable attempts to befriend a terrifying boy with silver eyes, and a new school? Only if he learns to control them before they put him and everyone around him in danger. Before they convince some people that he should never have been allowed to exist at all. Before he becomes just another twisted tale in his family's bizarre history, kept hidden for centuries within the ivy-covered walls of Gnomewood Home.
