"(Y/n) wait up!" I paused as I heard someone yell for me. I turned to see Jason. He was smiling but his eyes were emotionless as usual.
"Oh hey, Jason." I turned back around and we walked to our first class. We talked about our day together and how we should do it again as we approached the classroom. Once we entered I completely forgot about the teacher.
"CLASS DUCK!" Before I could get to my seat my head was forced down. I looked over to see Jason with his hand on my head.
"Sorry (Y/n). Sometimes if we don't duck we actually get something thrown at us." He gestured me to look up at at Elvin, who wasn't paying attention. I found that very odd, couldn't Mr.L get in trouble for that?
"ELVIN! LOOK OUT!" Mr.L screamed and threw an apple at his head. Elvin turned quickly, only to get smacked in the face with an apple. The class chuckled as he turned red with both anger and embarrassment.
"Hey! Thats student bullying! I could have you fired." Elvin screamed.
"And I could have you expelled for not following the rules and disrespecting your superiors." Mr.L gave a second of fear, but was so confident in his answer that it was washed away. I couldn't stop myself from laughing, but I sort of felt bad for the kid.
"W-what! That's still not fair! You threw an apple at my head. And it hit me. I could have gotten a concussion." He crossed his arms as he glared at the teacher.
"Did ya check the apple Elvin? Its a plush toy." We all looked over at him as he picked up the apple. Mr.L was right! He squiched it to show us all he hadn't actually thrown a real apple.
"How the... IT WAS REAL!" Jason laughed and we finally took our seats.
"Sure... If I was to throw a real apple, like this one, " Mr.L pulled an apple out of his pocket and squeezed it, "see real, I wouldn't throw it like that. I'd throw it like this." He chucked the apple in my direction. In the seconds I took to either let it hit me or be a badass, I decided the latter. With my heart racing, and praying that I could actually catch this apple, I stuck my hand out and caught it. I smiled as I felt my nerves settle and had to convince myself that I had just done that. "Stealthy" Mr.L smiled.
"Thanks." My heart was racing so decided to eat it out of spite for making me almost sweat through my shirt during first period.
"No problem. I mean, that was my lunch, but its your prize. Good job (L/n)." He had a goofy smile with an underlying tone of pain in his face. The lesson started and I ate my apple up until the bell. "HoMeWoRk!" The class groaned as they took their seats to hear the assignment. "I want you to partner up, your choice cause I'm nice, and create a story that tells an adventure between you two. Fiction or not, its due this Friday. And it has to be..." He paused. Whether for dramatic effect or he didnt even know the theme, "intense. Make it something that will have me on the edge of my seat. I want to literally fall." Everyone shared the moment to look at the partner that they had already picked mentally. I immediately felt Jason swing his head towards me.

"Partne-" before I could ask he cut me off.
"Yup." He packed his stuff and left the classroom. I looked over to two kids going up to Elvin to, I assume, ask to be his partner. I shrugged, and as I was walking out I felt a hand hold my shoulder. I turned to see Elvin standing there.
"(L/n)... Do you have a partner?" He asked. I could hear the embarrassment in his voice. He was looking down but I could feel the sweat on his forehead. His cheeks were surprisingly pale, but I could tell this was not something he usually did.
"I...." I paused. I could either shoot him down harshly or spare the poor guy. "I'm sorry!" I simply blurted out as I rushed off to math. I felt guilt consume me as I ran down the hall. 'I hope he can still get a partner...' I turned the corner and into my math class.
"(Y/n)!!" I heard my name as I walked in. "Come on, come sit." I looked to see the stupid smile on Hector's face. I shuddered at his tone. 'This guy... He seems too nice.' I faked a smile and went to sit next to him.
"Hi Hector..-" Somehow he managed to cut me off.
"I heard that you hang out with Richie and those guys. Thats pretty cool, seeing as you haven't even been here for a long time." He was like a rocket.
"How would you know where I've been." I took out my notebook as he looked at me.
"Juliet! She told me you guys hung out during the weekend." My eyes widened.
"You... You know Juliet?"
"Yeah. She's my sister." He giggled. Thats how I knew him! I didnt even take into the fact that they looked similar. He hadn't bugged me about my "familiar face" in weeks and now he suddenly hits me with this news?
"She's WHAT?!" I choked on air as the teacher told me not to shout. I apologized and looked over to him.
"What's so surprising? She looks just like me!" I didnt want to mention the fact that I never really looked at his face during the weeks that I've sat next to him. He did look like her. He had golden hair with a sorta brownish tint, green eyes, and skin that wasn't rough, but not that great. He smiled as I snapped out of my observations. The lesson seemed to speed by as I couldn't stop thinking about the fact that they were siblings. I had gotten the idea to ask if she was alright, maybe he knew. Before I could even get my words out the teacher announced the dreaded words.
"Homework class." The teachers voice killed the murmuring throughout the room. "Do problems 1-30." everyone obeyed and wrote down the homework, but as I did this Hector took out his phone and took a picture. He quickly said goodbye and left the room as the bell rang. I rushed writing down my assignment and was forced to abandon my question about Juliet. I sighed as I left the room and walked to my next class.

I walked to the table with Freddy, who was in my class right before lunch. He was talking about the teacher when he suddenly stopped, both in his speech and in his track. I looked up, "What's wrong?" as I traced where his line of vision was pointing I saw that someone was at our table.

"Wh-who is that?" He asked. I said I didnt know, and we both approached the table. I realized the person was sitting in Juliet's seat. She was on her phone and chewing some gum. "Um... Who're you?" Freddy asked before sitting. She looked up and smiled. Her dark circles were gone and she had makeup on.
"Hey guys! I changed my look! Its me... Juliet." She beamed at us as our jaws dropped.
"JuliET?!" Freddy half screamed. We sat down and stared at her. She looked so different, her whole atmosphere had changed.
"Yup! I dyed my hair, got new clothes, AND" she widened her eyes for emphasis, "I got contacts to make my eye color darker!" She seemed so happy about her change. I couldn't even speak, where would began the conversation?
"Who the hell is this!?" We turned our heads to see Richie rushing to the table. "Missy you are in Juliet's seat and you need to get out right now-" Richie was about to pick her up by the arm when she stopped him.
"Richie its me. I'm Juliet!" She giggles. His jaw dropped as he stared at her. She was be amin at the attention.
"You look nice Juliet." I complimented as she turned back to us. She completely ignored me and got up as soon as she saw the last two boys coming.
"TREVOR! JASON!" She yelled. She went in between them and took both of their arms. They looked annoyed and confused as this stranger, at leas to them, took their arms. She ditched her seat next to me and took one next to Trevor. We stared in awe as she rubbed up against him. He looked visibly sick. "Hey Trevor, what do you think of my hair? Isn't it nice? I heard you like the color red!" She smirked, she was starting to sound like she had a British accent. Trevor let out a grunt as he tried to break from her grasp.
"Uh aren't you a little too close, Juliet? Trevor look like he wants you there." Freddy nervously asked. The whole group felt uneasy as she was clearly not alright.
"Of course not." She smiled and continued to press herself up against him.
"I think you should listen to Freddy, he doesn't look like he likes that, Juliet..." I spoke out. She glared at me, everyone became tense at her sudden shift.
"Well maybe, he's uncomfortable because there's another girl here." She snapped out the response. My eyes widened at her comment.
"Whoa Juliet, what's the rudeness?" Jason asked.
"I'm not being rude. Its not rude if the person deserves it." She shot more glares my way. I felt like I wasn't wanted, I could read a room.
"I-ill go sit somewhere else." I quickly got up.
"No. Dont go. Why don't you sit, not like your doing anything." Juliet got up and went to my side of the table and behind me. I tried to leave but she was blocking me.
"No no, really, I'll just-" Juliet took my tray and slapped it down onto the table causing everything on my tray to turn into slop.
"Juliet calm down!" Richie raised his voice. All the guys were staring at me and Juliet. Somehow we hadn't gotten the lunchrooms attention, but I knew we would soon.
"NO! SHE TOOK MY PLACE IN THE GROUP!" She was yelling now, and it was definitely getting everyone's attention. The boys seems to become more alert and were getting ready to stand up. "You all forgot about me. You don't even give me so much as the time of day. And I'm done!" She looked at me and I froze. "You, (Y/n), are a bitch! You steal people's friends, you act like you are all that, and that everything is about you! I should've learned my lesson when you did this to me in elementary school!" I tensed up at the mention of our past.
"I did not-" before I could defend myself my eyes widened as she raised her hand. She brought it down and slapped me. The sound echoed so loud the whole lunch room stopped and stared.
"JULIET!!" All of the guys screamed. I looked at the ground in shock. My face stung as I couldn't move. I began to feel guilty as I realized what she meant, though that realization was short lived as I began to realize something else.
"Leave." I knew what was happening... she was going through the 5 stages of grief. Clearly, she was in stage 2. I didn't know whether to be mad or feel bad for her. "I said..." She picked up my milk carton and before I could react I felt a cold sensation on my head.
"JULIET THAT IS ENOUGH!" Richie screamed. He smacked the carton out of her hand and pushed her out of the way. "(Y/n), come on, let's go clean you up." He started to move when she grabbed his arm.
"NO! DONT LEAVE ME. PLEASE!" He shook her off. She looked to the other guys for help but they got up and came to my side. "THIS IS WHAT I MEAN! YOU STOLE MY FRIENDS (Y/N)!" She screamed. The whole cafeteria starts to erupt in a chant.
"Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!" They started to bang their hands on the table. We didn't listen and the boys took me away to clean up before a VP could come and try to solve the situation themselves. I didn't say anything, and just walked forward. Guilt soon set in when I realized I did steal her friends. It wasn't my fault, I didnt try to... they just took a liking to me. I couldn't control them, they were their own people. The only reason I think they like me is because I don't try to get then to like me, like she does. I'm not like Juliet.

Living in Paradise
The first thing I saw when I woke up was a group of people standing over me shouting "Happy Birthday!!!". Immediately after they start debating what type of world I came from and calling me 'William'. Later on I would learn that everyone here is reborn from another world and many children come with magic or superpowers or other gifts leftover from their old lives. I came from a world that was, to me, typical modernity. To them it was pretty boaring with the only thing interesting about my world being was a higher than average tech level for a non-spacefaring civilization; technology that wouldn't even work in this new world. All I brought with me was a peculiar mindset and the strong suspicion that there must be something more to life. Once everyone started to clear out my mother took me up in her arms, explained how the world works, and then stabbed me in the neck with a knife. I got better. -------------------- This story was written from the central idea of a simple question: What if a videogame like world, with all the normal video-game staples and tropes, was actually a real world? How would that work? How would people understand the universe around them? What sort of weirdness would the world appear to have from the point of view of someone who recognizes the odd nature of the place? And finally, if left to its own devices, how would this type of world ultimately develop?
