《Different》Chapter 18

Okay, this has nothing to do with the story but I just wanted to say that you really should check out Conan Gray on YouTube. I just discovered him and his music is so amazing! He deserves more recognition, so if you want to, give a listen to his music. I'll put one of his songs on the banner.

"So..where are we going?" I ask Dean after a quiet 10 minute drive through New York city.
"I know a place with awesome food," he chirps and I nod. He looks so carefree, smiling every time I look at him, especially today. I wonder what's gotten into him.
"So what did you do, during Christmas break?" He asks me and I tense up. Should I tell him I was with Luke? I don't want any problems, so I'm not telling him.
"Well I was with my family and a couple of old friends, I went ice skating and I got really drunk. But I was mostly with my family," I smile, skipping all the parts involving me and Luke kissing.. Or all the parts involving Luke, in general.
"That's nice," he smiles.
"What did you do?"
"I was with my family, mostly. When I wasn't, I was with my friends or thinking about you," he winks at the last part and I blush. I feel like I'm cheating on Luke. I shouldn't have blushed.
"We're here!" He exclaims and I look in front of me, through the windshield and see an old fashioned diner.
He opens the door for me and I walk in.
It's beautiful. It's aesthetics are black, white and red. The floor is covered in black and white squares, painted on the tiles. Booths and tables are painted red and so is the counter. I look at the white walls and squeal, "I feel like I'm in the 50s! I love it!" he chuckles at me.
"Booth?" Dean looks at me, grinning from ear to ear.
"Booth," I sit down.
"So what was with you, beating up Nicki?" He leans over the table, looking at me with his green eyes, making me lean back on the seat.
Ahh great. I knew it was going to come up.
"She just pissed me off and I've had enough of her," I shrug and thankfully the waiter comes to our table, before Dean could say anything about that matter.
"Hello, can I take your order?" He asks me, making Dean and I look at eachother at the same time, signalling to say what the other one wants.
I laugh, "I'd like a burger and some fries with a bottle of Coca-Cola," I look at Dean, waiting for him to take his order.
"Same as her but instead of Coca-Cola, I'd like Pepsi," the waiter nods and smirks at me, before leaving.
"I can't believe he just smirked at you," Dean snorts and I laugh.
"Emmy!" I hear someone behind me, making me turn around, seeing Jack.
"Jackie! What are you doing here?" I ask him as he sits down next to me, hugging me.
"Well this is my all-time favourite diner," he smirks, "and it just got better," I roll my eyes.
Dean clears his throat, making us both turn our heads towards him. He doesn't say anything, so of course Jack needs to say something, "So what are we eating?" He taps his fingers on the table.
"We just ordered, sorry," Dean answers him, coldly. His smile he wore before is completely gone.

"Don't worry, I'll just go to the counter and order it," he stands up, "oh and it's on you right?" He looks at Dean and smirks, before going to the waiter, telling him what he wants to eat.
"Why is he here?" Dean hisses.
"I honestly don't know," I shrug, looking at Jack.
"Can't you make him leave?" He whines.
"He won't leave, even if I carry him out of here," I laugh as Jack walks back to our table.
Not that I'd want Jack to leave.
Dean rolls his eyes, "dude. We came here to eat. Me and Emma, not Me, Emma and you," he narrows his eyes at Jack.
"Damn. You really gonna do me like that huh?" He sighs.
"I wanna spend some time with Emmy too, because she's with Luke all the time and barely has any for me," he shrugs and leans back in his seat.
"You literally work with her," Dean rolls his eyes. I notice that when Jack mentioned Luke, he started to clench his fists, making his knuckles white.
"Nah. We fuck in the bathroom most of the time," Jack winks and I gasp, hitting his arm.
"He's just joking," I laugh nervously. Great. Now Dean thinks I'm having sex with Jack.
"Yeah, I know," he narrows his eyes at Jack but then looks away.
"Can you stop saying we're having sex!" I say and people in the diner around us give me disrespectful stares.
An old lady was glaring at me, "What?" I say and she turns away.
"That's what I thought," I murmur, more to myself.
"Did you just 'what' a grandma?" Dean laughs, Jack joining him.
"Problem?" I snap and the waiter comes back with food, just in time, saving me.
"FOOD!" Jack yells and I slap him, "dude chill."
"Why do you have to take away my fun all the time," he pouts, grabbing the burger and stuffing it in his mouth.
"Thank you," I smile to the waiter, who winks at me and leaves, "and you're disgusting," I make a weird face, looking at Jack, choking down the entire burger.
I look at Dean, who is probably regretting inviting me out to lunch. He's just quietly murmuring something to himself, looking at his burger and then eating it slowly.
"Done!" Jack states, ketchup around his mouth, looking at the empty plate proudly, "you two are too slow for me," he smirks.
"We weren't even competing?" I raise an eyebrow.
"Everything is a competition, Emma. Remember that," he looks at me, dead in the eye and I roll mine. I take a sip of Coca-Cola, gazing at Dean again, who didn't want to look at me.
"So have you seen Luke today yet? I haven't seen him ever since he ran away from the airport," Jack looks at me and Dean clenches his fists again.
Oh my god Jack do you ever shut up? Great what do I do now? I should have told Dean about Luke.
"He was at the airport?" Dean fires his head up, his gaze not longer on the burger.
"Yeah he came with Jack," I smile nervously.
"What are you talking about? He was in Michigan with you!" Jack exclaims. For God's sake Jack! Can you not? Ughhh there are some times I wanna strangle him.
"He was there with you? Why didn't you tell me?" There's sadness in his eyes now.

"I thought it wasn't important," I give him a small, unsure smile.
"Sure," he mumbles and stands up, "Where are you going?" I look up at him.
He just puts his money on the table and leaves.
"Thanks a lot Jack," I huff and stand up but he pulls me back down.
"No problem," he winks, "Don't trust him. I really have a bad feeling about him. So you should be thanking me," he smirks.
"Thanking you?! You just made Dean sad and got him to leave," he's unbelievable.
"Yeah. That's why you should be thanking me. And you're the one who lied so you have no right to be angry with me," he rolls his eyes.
Shit. He's kind of right huh? I remain awkwardly silent.
"That's what I thought," he murmurs to himself and gets up to leave.
"Where are you going?" I ask him.
"Miss me already?" He winks and I slap him.
"At least keep me company if you made Dean leave," I whine.
"I think someone else would like to do that," he rolls his eyes and leaves.
What was that about?
My question is quickly answered as Luke sits down in front of me.
"Why weren't you at school today?" I narrow my eyes at him.
"I'm sure Jack kept you company," he hisses and leans over the table, making me lean over too.
"Really?" I sigh, "I don't like Jack if that's what you're thinking," I say and lean back to my seat.
"Sure thing," he murmurs.
"You still didn't answer my question." I hate it when he's like that. Why can't he just be nice and give me bear hugs all the time?
"Why would I? And why the fuck were you here with Dean?" He asks me in a low voice, his eyes looking deadly.
"He asked me if I'd like to have lunch with him and I said yes, because I have 2 spare hours until my shift," I see his fists clench.
"You could've spent them with me," he hits his fists on the table, so the glasses almost fall and spill everything.
"You were nowhere to be found!" I freak out at him. A strand of my hair falls on my face and I fix it.
"You could've texted me!" He narrows his eyes at me.
"Excuse me miss, is he bothering you?" the waiter comes back.
"Oh fuck off," Luke spits, making the waiter jump a bit.
"It's fine," I give him a small smile and it's clear in his eyes that he doesn't believe me but he leaves anyways. He's probably scared of Luke.
"And you could've been at school!" I clench my fists.
"Oh so now everytime I'm not at school, you'll be going out with that fucker?" He growls.
"You know it's not like that! Why do you make everything so difficult? I literally got in trouble because of you-" I stop quickly, covering my mouth.
Shit, shit, shit.
"What?" He raises his eyebrow.
"Nothing," I quickly get up, to get away but he's too quick. He grabs me by my waist and pulls me back.
"What happened?" He whispers.
"Nothing. Ask your girlfriend!" I snap.
"Emma Grace Davis are you jealous?" He chuckles.
"You're in no place to be talking," I fire back and he rolls his eyes.
I try to get out of his grip, but he just tightens is. It kind of feels good.
Stop it!
"Let me go," I whine.
"Why would I?" He smirks.
"I have work," I look at the clock.
"So?"
"I have to go?" I say in an obvious tone and raise my eyebrow.
"I'll drive you, since Dean the Dick left with his car," he snorts.
Wait. Dean literally just left me here. Wow. What a dick.
"And you'll tell me what happened. I haven't forgot," he kisses me on my cheek and I blush.
Why am I blushing? I should be angry at him. He bought Nicki the same necklace and have sex with her. Multiple images enter my head and I shake it, to make them leave.
"So tell me what happened?" He grabs my hand, when we're in his car.
"You had sex with Nicki," I sigh, "and you bought her the exact necklace as mine."
"What?" He laughs.
Uh. This isn't something you laugh about..but apparently he found it really funny because he soon was wiping tears of laughter.
"Damn. I haven't laughed that much in a while," he snorts and wipes his tears.
"What's so funny?" I glare at him.
"What's funny is, that you actually believed her."
"Just drive me to work," I roll my eyes and he stops laughing and looks at me. His hand cups my cheek, making me look at his brown eyes.
"I would never, ever have sex with her, or anyone for that matter, that isn't you," he says and seals it with a quick peck on the lips.
He drives me to and from work. When I get to my dorm I just study and go to bed.
"Hey bitch," Nicki hisses at me the next day at school.
Great. I knew this was coming.
And damn her face is fucked up. I'm kind of proud of myself for giving her a black eye, a split lip and a few more bruises all over her face.
"Hi girl! Nice to see you!" I sarcastically say and roll my eyes.
"I heard Jack fucked you in the bathroom yesterday. How was it? Is he really as long as they say?" She smiles.
"What are you even talking about?" I draw my eyebrows together.
"Oh just what everyone's talking about ever since Lilly heard you two yesterday. Poor girl couldn't sleep last night," she pouts at her minion next to her.
"Really? You know what bitch? Go ahead. Spread rumours about me. At least your legs won't be the only thing you spread, now will they?" I spit and wink at her.
I close my locker and go to class.
Luke's there already and smiles at me, patting the seat next to him.
I walk to his seat and every pair of eyes in the room are looking at my every move. I sit next to Luke and he grabs my hand, squeezing it.
"What a cheater!" A guy says and points to our intertwined fingers.
"Fuck did you just say?" Luke growls and gets up.
"She's cheating dude," he smirks and leaves.
"You're cheating?" Luke growls at me.
"Luke, sit down, let me explain the situation. I'm not cheating," the anger in his eyes goes away, but not completely.
"Ever since I hit Nicki, she's spreading rumours about me and Jack having sex in the bathroom," I sigh and his eyes widen.
"You hit her?"
"Yeah," I shrug.
"Damn it! I wanted to see that!" I sighs and chuckles.
"I believe you, don't worry," he smiles and grabs my hand.
The teacher comes in, "Emma Davis, the headmaster wants to see you in his office."
