Orange light peeks through the clouds too soon. I glance up to Lucas; his eyes are closed now.
I prop myself up on my elbow and nudge him softly, knowing the morning light is about to break the little charade we've played all night.
"Lucas," I whisper, "it's almost morning."
My words don't mean what they are. They tell him that it's almost time for us to say goodbye and return back to reality, but that is too heavy to accept at the moment.
I don't think he was actually asleep because he sits up slowly. He gives me a lazy morning smile.
We get up and realize both our phones are dead, meaning we have to walk a mile down the road to actually get into the city. We're lucky Wilbur seems to know where in the world we are because I sure as hell don't.
I start to make my way over to the street, but he pulls me back. He turns me to face the sun rising. He gives me a kiss on the shoulder before burying himself into my hair, not wanting to watch the morning break our perfect.
"I leave for London today," I whisper.
He groans. "Don't remind me."
We walk hand in hand to the edge of the road. We both pause, a single step from the concrete, and I think we both know what that slab means.
If Lucas and Lilly are only a one night thing, then they probably shouldn't interact in the morning. It's a good morning that means goodbye.
"We should say goodbye and stop pretending when we hit the concrete," he says softly.
It sounds easier than it really is. How in the world are we supposed to say goodbye after everything?
I nod once. "Or maybe good morning would be more fitting."
He laughs before turning to me, both of my hands in his.
"Good morning, Lilly."
"Good morning, Lucas.'
Together we take a step onto the concrete, once again ourselves. It's a bittersweet familiarity.

A Ten Pound Bag
A serial saga with short chapters published each and every morning to read over your coffee or tea. This is a "versus life" story with no great evil to face just life in a hard place during a hard time. Our hero and his companions get catapulted back in time and must find a way to not only survive but prosper. This story is definitely "R" rated maybe even NC-17 but don't expect explosions, blood and orgasms at every page turn. Bad words and uncomfortable topics are addressed in this story, this is not for every reader. This is a technical story and develops slowly at first, full technical details, maps and research are available over on Patreon. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I am. -Emmeran
