Poe let out a small groan as the familiar ringing sound of his alarm went off. Lazily and without opening his eyes, the man swung his arm out and felt around for the small device. Upon finding it, he slammed his hand down, letting out a small sigh of relief when the noise stopped.

He then leaned back and rubbed his eyes slightly with his hand as he yawned. Running that same hand through his hair, Poe sat up and slowly blinked his eyes open. It took him a minute, but he eventually woke up.

A movement beside him had him looking down and he smiled softly at the sight of Cassie sleeping soundly beside him. He watched as she moved over slightly in her sleep, obviously trying to find him, and it was only when her body collided with his that she let out a small sigh of content and relaxed.

Her brown hair was sprawled out behind her, knotted slightly from tossing and turning in her sleep, so Poe took the moment to admire her as he gently ran his hand through her hair to get rid of some of the knots. Her eyelashes fluttered against her cheeks signaling that her eyes were moving during her slumber and her mouth remained partly open as short hot breaths escaped.

His eyes raked over her face and he smiled as he gently let his fingers brush across her cheek. Watching her sleep beside him looking so peaceful and calm made him only think one thing.

That his wife was goddamn beautiful.

How he had managed to get Cassie to agree to become Cassiopeia Dameron was beyond him. Especially since he had basically made her hate him after their first meeting. He had always seen her around the base before, but when he had finally managed to interact with her, Poe had messed it up.

It was a miracle that she had even let him talk to her again, not to mention even agreed to go out with him. Poe liked to think that she had been secretly in love with him all that time, but in all honesty, he had been the one that had a major crush on her before even talking to her. That's why he had gone after her in the first place when he had seen her X-wing break away from the fight.

Three years later and here they were happily married. It had been the best three years of his life by far and every day he woke up afraid that he was living a dream. He was the luckiest man in the galaxy by far and he thanked the Force every day for being able to have Cassie by his side.

Beeping from the other side of the room had Poe snapping out of his thoughts and looking up to see his droid BB-8 rolling over to him. A series of whirls and beeps filled the air and Poe let out a small groan.

"Thanks, buddy. I totally forgot," Poe muttered as he remembered that BB-8 was right and all three of them were supposed to be leaving for a mission in less than an hour.

Turning to look at the sleeping girl, Poe let his hand fall down to her shoulder and he gently shook her. "Darling, time to get up," Poe whispered earning a small shake of the girl's head as she dug her face into his side.

"I know you're tired, sweetheart, but we've really got to get up and moving. We're supposed to be leaving soon," Poe told her.

"Just a few more minutes," Cassie whispered as she nuzzled into him more. "Please. Just lie with me for a few more minutes."

"Fine, but only because I love you," Poe said as he laid back down. His arms wrapped around the girl, pulling him towards her so that she was now resting her head on his chest. He subconsciously rubbed his hand up and down her back while he tucked her head under his chin.

They laid like this for a while, just enjoying the feeling of being in the arms of the person they loved. The couple probably would've stayed there for the rest of the day if it hadn't been for BB-8 suddenly scaring them half to death with a series of whirls and whistles.

"Okay, okay. We're up!" Poe said with a laugh as he propped himself up with one arm. His eyes flickered down to Cassie who was frowning slightly at the fact that she had to wake up. "Come on, beautiful. Let me see those angel eyes of yours."

Cassie let out a small sigh before her eyes fluttered open, instantly locking with his. A warm smile appeared on Poe's face before he whispered, "There they are." He then leaned in ever so slightly to press a small kiss to her lips, a kiss that made her toes curl and her mind suddenly snap awake.

Her hand slowly reached up, ready to pull him closer, but before she could, Poe was pulling away with a smirk on his face. "I hate you," Cassie muttered as she let out a huff.

"No, you don't. You love me," Poe teasingly said as he pressed a chaste kiss to her forehead before getting up out of bed.

"That's debatable," Cassie mumbled under her breath, but Poe still heard her and let out a gasp as he looked at the girl.

He put a hand to his chest and acted as if he were wounded as he said, "You, Mrs. Dameron, are a heartbreaker."

Cassie rolled her eyes and let out a small laugh. "Just hush and get ready. We've got a mission don't we?" She asked as she finally pulled herself up and out of bed.

Poe smiled softly at the ground as he made his way to the bathroom. He paused in the doorway and looked back to see Cassie rummaging through their closet in an attempt to find her uniform. He stood there admiring the girl for a moment before saying, "I love you."

Cassie stopped what she was doing and stood up to look at Poe. She smiled warmly at him before tossing his uniform at him. The piece of clothing hit him in the face and he chuckled softly as he pulled the clothing off his head, letting his hand fall to his side as a dopey grin appeared on his face while Cassie just smiled at him.

"I love you too, you idiot. Now go get ready. I'd rather not have General Organa on our asses before seven in the morning. Or worse, my father."

Poe let out a laugh, "Rigel? What's the worse he could do?"

- - -

"You're late," Rigel Shae muttered as he side-eyed his daughter and her husband. The disappointment in his eyes was evident and it was enough to have Poe's smile disappear.

That was the worse he could do. And having Rigel Shae disappointed in you was far worse than anything Poe could imagine.

Poe gulped slightly before giving the man a nervous smile. "Sorry, sir. It won't happen again," Poe quickly rushed out earning a smirk and a raised eyebrow from Cassie.

"It better not," Rigel said with a blank expression on his face. Not even a second passed by before he was suddenly smiling at the couple and pulling Cassie in for a hug. "I'm just messing with you. Leia's not here yet anyways, so you two are fine."

Poe let out a small sigh of relief while Cassie chuckled and hugged her father. "You didn't actually think he was serious, did you?" Cassie asked as she looked to her husband. "He was practically trying to hide his smile the whole time he was talking."

Poe just made a face at the girl before looking to Rigel. He held an arm out and nodded at the man in greeting, "Sir."

Rigel smiled and quickly took ahold of the man's arm before patting his shoulder. "Poe, please. How many times have I told you that you can call me Rigel? Sir makes me sound old," he said.

"Just trying to be respectful," Poe told him as he smiled. "Besides, no one thinks you're old. You don't look a day over thirty five."

"I knew I liked you for a reason," Rigel said as he pointed at the man. Cassie rolled her eyes and went to stand next to Poe as she looked to her father.

"Have you heard anything from Leo and Aries?" Cassie asked. She was trying to hide her concern, but both men were able to pick up on it. Her brothers had been away on a mission together for the past week and weren't allowed to have any communication with anyone other than the General and her advisor who happened to be Rigel Shae.

"In fact, I have. Aries checked in last night to say that they completed the mission and are on their way back. They should be back here by the time you and Poe return," Rigel said.

Cassie grinned while Poe wrapped an arm around her and gave her a small squeeze. Leo and Aries had been assigned to the same base as her about a year back and since then, the triplets had gone back to being inseparable. So the fact that they had been sent on a mission without her had made her a little nervous.

But that always happened when she wasn't around her family. Ever since Nova's death, it was hard for her to be separated from them. That's why her being separated from her family for three years while they all struggled to get through the tough time they had been going through was hard.

Luckily, Poe had stepped into her life and he had been the one to slowly help mend both Cassie and her relationship with her family which is why they were now closer than ever and why she thanked the force every day for giving her someone like Poe.

But the close relationship she had with her brothers and her father is why it pained her to think of Castor, who she hadn't heard a word from in the past six years. Castor was the youngest of the Shae family and, at the age of fifteen and right after Nova's death, had packed up his things and left with a close family friend of theirs.

His reasoning was that he needed to get away from it all and from then on had been filling his time with learning the ways of a smuggler. They hadn't heard from him since the day he left. He hadn't even showed up for her wedding.

"Sorry I'm late. One of the newbies forgot to turn off his X-wing and it crashed into a few of the others," Leia muttered out exasperated as she walked into the room. She smiled at the sight of Cassie and Poe and quickly walked over to the girl before pulling her in for a hug. "Cassie, my dear. How are you?"

"I'm doing great, General. I'm both excited and ready for this mission," Cassie told her.

"Child, I've known you since you, Aries, and Leo were born. No need for the formalities," Leia told her. "We've been through too much for you to have to call me General. Leia will do just fine."

Cassie smiled softly at the woman who was like a second mother to her. Leia was right, they had been through a lot together. The Shae and Solo family had grown up together after all, so they had been through thick and thin. Not to mention, they both had to go through the loss of Nova Shae and Ben Solo together.

"Poe, I'm assuming you're ready as well?" Leia questioned as she turned her attention to the pilot. Poe nodded and Leia smiled. "Great. This mission is important as you both know. We must have no delays. Follow me."

"Leia Organa, always getting straight to the point," Rigel jokingly said as he fell into stride next to the woman.

Leia glanced at the man and chuckled softly. "If I didn't, we wouldn't get anything done," she pointed out. "This way."

Poe and Cassie followed the two adults through the base and to where their X-wings were waiting for them. As they walked, Poe swiftly took Cassie's hand in his own and the two walked hand in hand behind the General while BB-8 rolled behind them.

Once they reached the hanger, Leia brought them over to where their two X-wings were waiting. Poe and Cassie grinned before giving each other's hand a small squeeze and breaking apart to head over to their respective X-wings.

Cassie was just about to get into hers when she felt her father's eyes staring into the back of her head. The brunette stopped in her actions and let out a small sigh before turning and rushing over to hug her father. Rigel instantly hugged her back, closing his eyes as he squeezed her tight. "Be careful," he whispered.

"I always am," Cassie said as she pulled away. "Don't worry. Leia said it should be a quick in and out mission with little to no fighting necessary. I'll be back before you know it and you'll have the Shae triplets annoying you once again."

Rigel chuckled softly before leaning forward and pressing a small kiss to his daughter's forehead. "I love you, Cassie," he whispered.

"Love you too, Dad," Cassie replied. She then smiled at the man one last time before turning and beginning her climb up into her X-wing.

Rigel watched her with a sad smile before looking to Poe. He pointed a finger at the man and gave him a serious look as he said, "Dameron, take care of her, okay?"

"You know I will. I'd rather die before letting her get hurt," Poe assured him and that was enough to make Rigel relax slightly. He knew Poe would do anything and everything to keep Cassie safe, but that still didn't stop him from worrying. After all, the last time he hadn't worried when sending one of his kids off, she had died.

"Remember, your mission is to pick up the information we need. It's vital that you get it back here as quick as you can," Leia told the two pilots. "The coordinates are already set in your systems and communications will be open if the need for contact arises. Good luck and may the force be with you."

Cassie and Poe both nodded at the general before putting their helmets on and getting everything set up. Once they were all ready, a few of the Resistance members helped guide their X-wings through the hanger.

"Ready?" Poe asked through the comms as he glanced over at Cassie.

The girl smirked and tightened her grip on the steering wheel. "Ready," she said making Poe smile as he cracked his neck and prepared to take off.

It took one more minute, but eventually their X-wings were racing towards the exit and Leia and Rigel watched as they took off into the air and towards their destination, Jakku. Rigel let out a small sigh as his eyes followed the two through the sky.

"May the Force be with you."

"Holy Sith," Cassie muttered, her eyes wide as she stared at the First Order ships that were approaching. She momentarily laughed at her small play on words before realizing she needed to focus and beginning to run towards the small hut that Poe was currently in.

BB-8 rolled behind her, letting out a series of whirls and beeps that made Cassie frown. "Well I thought you were the one that was watching!" Cassie exclaimed as they ran across the desert planet of Jakku.

Poe had given them one job when they had landed on Jakku and that had been to keep watch while he was busy getting the information from an old ally of the General's. How both BB-8 and Cassie had managed to not see the giant First Order ships coming their way until a giant light was shining down on them, they weren't sure, but they tried not to think about it as they raced into the small hut alerting both Poe and the old man he was talking to of their presence.

"Cass? What's wrong?" Poe asked as he sat up straighter, his eyes flickering over the girl who was gasping for air.

Before Cassie could respond, BB-8 started beeping frantically as he tried to tell Poe what was happening. Poe looked at his friend with wide eyes before saying, "Buddy, you're speaking really fast. I can't understand what you're trying to say. Slow down."

"He said. . ." Cassie trailed off to take in a deep breath. "We've got company." Both of the men's eyes widened while Cassie finally managed to stand up straight. "The First Order. . .they're here."

Poe set his jaw before pulling himself on to his feet. He was by Cassie's side in a matter of seconds and quickly grabbed her hand before pulling her outside. Poe released her hand so that he could pull out a pair of quadnoculars. He frowned at the sight of enemy ships approaching, ships that, no doubt, were carrying stormtroopers.

Poe lowered the quadnoculars and looked to the old man. "You have to hide," he insisted.

"You two have to leave," the man told them, ignoring what Poe had said. Cassie looked back, her eyes wide, but the man only gave her a soft smile and a nod. "Go." Cassie continued to stare at the man, obviously conflicted, but she didn't have time to say or do anything else before Poe was nodding and grabbing her hand.

"Come on," Poe whispered before he looked down at BB-8 and signaled for the droid to follow. Poe then began to run off, dragging Cassie along with him as he went much to her dismay. The couple and droid ran through the small village as fast as they could, their destination being their X-wings that were on the outskirts of town.

As they ran, Cassie couldn't help but bite her lip as she watched the village prepare to defend their homes. Men were getting weapons ready, women were making blockades around the homes in which the children had all run into. "We should help them," Cassie said, slowing down slightly.

Poe was quick to grab her face in his hands. "Cassie, darling, I know you want to help, but we can't help if we're dead. The General needs us," Poe told her.

Cassie nervously bit her lip again, a million thoughts running through her head at once. It took a minute but she eventually nodded her head. Poe let out a small sigh of relief before kissing her forehead. "We're almost there," he assured her before he was grabbing ahold of her hand again as they started to run.

They eventually caught sight of their X-wings and Cassie let out a sigh of relief. She glanced back to make sure that BB-8 was still following and frowned once she saw that the droid was lagging behind. "Come on, BB-8, hurry!" Poe exclaimed once he saw what his wife was looking at.

While BB-8 was catching up, Poe brought Cassie over to her X-wing. He helped her inside and made sure she was all good before he went over to his own. The two began to make the necessary steps required to take off and Cassie was about done when her ship began to shake violently.

Cassie let out a huff of frustration and turned to see that some of the stormtroopers had hit her engine. "Poe, my ship's been hit!" She exclaimed through the comms.

"What? Are you okay?" Poe asked. Cassie didn't get a chance to answer before Poe suddenly muttered, "Force. They got me too."

"They're coming this way," Cassie said in a panic as she frantically searched her X-wing for the button she needed.

"I see them. I got it," Poe said through the comms before he used the gun of his X-wing to fire at the stormtroopers. They were instantly knocked back, buying Poe enough time to jump out of his X-wing. He was quick to run over to where Cassie was struggling to get out and held his arms out for her. She jumped down and he caught her before setting her on the ground.

"This way," Poe said before him, Cassie, and BB-8 began to run again. However, Poe caught sight of the stormtroopers coming and quickly stopped his wife before pulling her behind one of the X-wings, BB-8 rolling behind them.

"What are we going to do?" Cassie asked as she began to breath heavily. She was starting to panic and the screams coming from the village as the people were slaughtered and the fact that their X-wings were destroyed was not helping the fact.
