"If you marry me, would you bury me? Would you carry me to the end?"
( Lyric credit: To the End by MCR)
(Age five)
"I bet I could jump higher than you," Rey smirked at the wide-eyed boy. She began jumping up and down, attempting to beat him.
"That's not fair," Ben said laughing. "Your small and weak. I'm strong and you could never beat me," he said jumping up, only jumping slightly higher than Rey.
"No fair," Rey said crossing her arms. "I'm clearly stronger. I'm Super Girl."
"More like Super Weak," Ben said laughing.
"You're mean. I'm going to tell my mom on you," Rey said smugly.
"No, please no," Ben said looking scared. "I don't want to get in trouble."
Rey smiled softly. "Joking silly. Just don't say that again and maybe you can be Super Man."
"I'd rather be Bat Man," Ben said smiling.
(Age 8)
"Rey! Smile for your picture!" Rey's grandpa said trying to be enthusiastic. "You look great and it's your first day of third grade!"
"I miss mom and dad," the girl said staring down at the floor. "When will they be home?"
Leaning down, Rey's grandfather smiled and hugged the small girl. "Just think about how awesome your first day of school will be. New year, new grade, new you."
"I want mom."
"Baby, I can't do that. You can go hang out with Ben, though. We are going to meet him at the bus stop so you can ride the bus with him."
Rey nodded and grabbed her backpack. It was light blue and had flowers on it. Grabbing her grandfathers hand she walked out of the house and down to the corner of the street where Ben and his mom were.
"You look nice," Ben said as Rey approached. "I like your hair."
"Thank you," Rey said smiling softly. Her grandma put her hair in three buns and she was worried on how it looked.
Maybe this year wouldn't be so bad.
(Age 11)
"Rey, how do I look?"
"You look fine," Rey said laughing at Ben. "Your shirt is a little wrinkled but that's nothing, it adds to the look."

"Do you think people will like it though?"
"No ones going to know your bands, Ben. But Tool is pretty cool so anyone that doesn't know that isn't worth your time."
"This is why you're my best friend," Ben said grinning as he threw on a pair of shoes. "I wonder if middle school will be fun."
"Well we have each other so no matter what, we will always have something good." Rey said as she brushed Ben's hair.
"You don't have to brush my hair," Ben said blushing ever so slightly so Rey couldn't see.
"I know but you suck at brushing your hair properly. It's also kinda fun since your hair is a fluff ball," Rey said giggling.
"Whatever makes you happy," Ben said smiling to himself.
(Age 13)
Ben looked across the classroom at Rey. Her face was buried in work and she seemed busy. Getting out of his seat, he made his way over to Rey's desk and tapped her shoulder. "There's a sub today."
"So?"
"You don't have to work that hard if there's a substitute. You can relax for once, try hard."
"Well I'm trying to build my work ethic for high school," Rey said rolling her eyes at Ben. "Wanna work together?"
"I guess I'll have to do it anyways," Ben said pulling over a chair.
(Age 14)
Rey was alone. The second that Ben walked into high school he changed. He no longer hung out with Rey and ignored her in the hallways. From what became a sweet boy became a troublemaker.
"I miss you," Rey said from the distance and she watched Ben fool around with his "new" friends.
(Age 16)
"I dare you to go make fun of that girl over there."
"Which girl?" Ben said laughing. He was drunk off his mind and was sitting on the bleachers watching the cheerleaders.
"The girl down there. The band girl with the three buns. I think she's holding a trumpet or something," Ben's friend said laughing drunkly.
"You mean Rey?"
"Yeah, that one."
"Not Rey, she was my friend."
"Whatever man, fucking loser."

"What did you say to me, bastard?" At that point Ben's friend was on the floor and Ben was on top of him, beating him up.
(Age 18)
(Age 21)
"Ben, you're drinking too much. You need to slow down."
"It's only been three rounds, Hux. I can go for another one. I'll be fine," he said glaring at the orange haired man.
"Dude you are gonna graduate next year. You need to begin to take control of your life and that starts with your drinking problem."
"Get out of here, weasel."
"You're going to regret this, Solo."
Ben laughed. "Yeah, we'll see about that."
(Age 25)
"Take your assignments and go to the assigned station. Rose, you are on peds, Finn is on cardio, and Rey is in the ER today," the resident said. The interns nodded and rushed off to their assigned stations.
"This is going to suck," Rey said as she approached the doors to the emergency room. "The ER is the worst."
"Dr. Palpatine, we have a drunk driver behind curtain three. He has glass in his head and his right leg is severed."
Rushing into the curtained area Rey could feel her emotions taking control. Ben was on the table, bloody and broken.
"Page Shepherd and get a head CT. Push three of dopamine and see if we can find his leg."
"Yes doctor," the nurses said in sync.
"Rey, is that you?"
(Age 26)
"Why did you help me?"
"It was my job, Ben."
"I don't remember anything that happened. I just remember you wheeling me into surgery."
"I know, Benny. I know," Rey said smiling as she stroked his hair.
"I love you."
"I know."
"Why did you help me?"
The cycle restarted.
(Age 30)
"Rey, you got me clean when no one believed in me. You saved me from myself and you were there when I was just a vegetable on a ventilator. You are the love of my life, my savior, salvation, and best friend. In life I'm going to need you. I'm going to need your love and devotion. I'm going to need you my by side bed without you, I can't breath. So, I guess you could say that I'm asking you to marry me," Ben said smiling as he pulled a ring out of his coat pocket.
(Age 35)
"Ben, you need to calm down," Rey said laughing at her husband. Ben just rolled his eyes and grabbed the rest of the buckets from the fridge.
"My ice cream," he said trying to impersonate a gremlin. "The cookies and cream is all mine and maybe if you are lucky, you can have the strawberry."
"You are a mad man, those are for my cravings."
"Go eat your pickled chips elsewhere, woman. You will not mix this cream of god with anything."
"You're mean," Rey said laughing as she reached for one of the containers.
"I WARNED YOU," Ben screamed. Picking up Rey he set her down on the sofa and started tickling her.
"Stop," Rey said laughing. You're so childish."
"The only child here is inside of you," Ben said as he leaned down to kiss Rey's stomach. "Thank you for giving me a second chance," he said into her stomach.
(Age 43)
"I'm sorry. I wasn't fast enough and I wasn't strong enough. I couldn't stop what happened but you're in a better place now. I'll always love you, no matter what. If I could turn back the clocks I would in a heartbeat."
"I love you daddy."
"Mr. Solo will always be remembered," the pastor said softly despite the fact that Rey wasn't listening. She couldn't when she was looking at his face. She knew him her whole life. She married her best friend and middle school crush. She carried him until the end and now she had to witness his burial.
"I love you," she whispered softly. "Thank you for the best years of my life."
