《Ghost of My Life》Chapter 16

Daniel laid next to her in bed while she slept, her breathing was heavy and got worse as the night went on, so he stayed up all night to keep an eye on her. She stirred and groaned miserably around 5 am, and then shot up suddenly a few minutes later, she was shaking and sweating as she tried to stand up.
"Woah, where are you going?" Daniel asked, standing up abrubtly to help her.
"Bathroom." She gagged, and he took her by the hands and helped her into the bathroom, she barely made it before she spilled her insides out into the toilet, and kicked the the door shut in his face, leaving him in the hall. He sighed, and rubbed his eyes with his fingers, silently cursing. He rushed down the stairs and started on making her a cup of calming tea. He set the small pot of water on the stove and prepared her cup. The water boiled quickly, thankfully, and he poured it over the tea bag in the cup, adding a couple scoops of sugar to the mix and taking it back upstairs. He heard the sink in the bathroom running as he crossed the hallway into their bedroom, and set the tea on the desk by his box of keepsakes. He retreated back to the bathroom just as she opened the door.
"Y/n? I really think you should go to a doctor." He said, concern and worry dripping from his words. She swayed slightly in her spot and just silently nodded, grabbing his arm. She looked awful. Pale, and just out of it.
"Come on darling, i made you some warm tea. You relax and I'll call a doctor." He guided her into the bedroom and laid her down on the bed, and retrieved her cup. He set it next to her on the night stand and kissed her head.

"I'll be right back, love." He whispered, kissing her head again. As he stood straight up he grabbed his phone off the night stand, and took it into the living room so he wouldn't disturb her rest.
He dialed the number for the clinic quickly, having only one clinic in town for everyone makes things a little easier to remember. If she was really sick they would have to leave town to go to the hospital.
That couldn't happen.
He waited until the tired sounding receptionist answered, with a vague attempt to sound chipper.
"Parkview Medical. How can we help you?"
"I need to make an appointment for my girlfriend, she's getting really sick. She was fine yesterday, but she went to bed with a fever and she's throwing up now." He explained, trying to sound calm.
"How bad is her fever?"
"I haven't taken an thermometer reading yet but she's burning up, either way."
"Okay, and you said this started last night?" She asked.
"More or less." He sighed, now starting to pace.
"Has she shown any other symptoms?" The eoman asked with the sharp clicking of her keyboard audible in the background
"She's really pale, and sweating. She was shaking, so I think chills are likely."
"Alright, bring her in later today. I'll put her down for 8 o'clock." The receptionist said plainly, obviously tired of her shift at work.
"Alright, thank you. I appreciate it." Danny sighed and hung up the phone, and tossed it on the couch. He leaned his head back on the headrest of the couch and closed his eyes for a moment. He prayed she wasn't too sick, he didn't want to delay their move much longer, but he couldn't have her traveling and commiting a crime while sick. She could barely stand, let alone kill someone.
He groaned as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Danny..?" He heard from the top of the stairs, and snapped his eyes open, seeing her sway ever so slightly at the top of the stairs sent anxiety coursing through him, and he jumped up and climbed the stairs quickly.
"Love, you need to be in bed. You have a doctor's appointment at 8." He said softly, embracing her against his chest to keep her from falling as he took her back into the bedroom.
"I got worried...it was too quiet." She muttered, leaning on his side for support.
"I wouldn't leave you alone like this. You really scared me just now." He chuckled softly in an attempt to brush off the remaining anxiety as he placed the back of his hand delicately against her face, and still felt the fever.
"You're way too sick to leave by yourself, anyway." He kissed the top of her head and squeezed her close to him before helping her to lay back on her side of the bed. He tucked her back in and sat down on the edge, gently petting her hair back.
"Get some rest, darling. I'll wake you when we're going to the doctor's." He said softly, laying down next to her. She nestled into the crook of his neck, and sighed softly. He felt her burning hot skin against his and it made him uncomfortably hot, but he ignored it for her sake.
"What time is it?" She groaned tiredly, her voice gravely and uneven. Danny sighed and lifted his head to check the alarm clock, the numbers display shone brightly in the darkness.
"5:30." He said, wrapping and arm around her back and rubbing up and down her spine gently. She hummed in response, and leaned closer into him, and closed her eyes. He continued to rub her back as he worried what could be wrong with her.
======================================
"Darling..." Danny's voice cut through the haze of sleep, and into my ears. "Y/n, wake up. It's time to go." He shook my shoulder gently, further rousing the sleep from my body. I opened my eyes and looked up at him. He looked exhausted. Had he slept at all?
"Come on, love. We'll be late." He said softly, gently taking my hands and helping me sit up. I groaned tiredly, my body is heavy. And I'm cold.
"Do you want something clean and comfy to wear?" He asked, kneeling down to be closer to eye level with me. I nodded, and yawned.
"I'm cold.." i shuddered and pulled my blanket back up over my shoulders. Danny looked riddled with worry and concern, his brows had a small permanent crease between them as he reached up to brush my face with his hands.
"You're still hot, but thankfully it feels a little better than before." He mumbled, then sighed through his nose.
"I'll get your clothes, stay here." He stood up and crossed the room to the wardrobe, and searched through the contents till he produced one of my big hoodies and a pair of sweatpants.
"Is this okay?" He held up the clothes and offered them to me, i nodded and reached my hand out, taking them as he tossed the clothes my way. He rummaged through the closet on his side and pulled out a dark button down for himself. He rolled the sleeves up to his elbow and clipped the cuffs at the top of his forearms. He tucked his shirt into his black pants and came back to help me up off the bed. I felt my stomach turn with the motion, but it quickly subsided. He held my arms until i regained my balance, then released me to get dressed.
