《Ghost of My Life》chapter 12

I knocked on my mom's front door with an admittedly shakey hand. What if bringing Danny here was a mistake? I was the one who said it might not be a good idea, but then my mom and ex don't talk. I could see the shadows of movement from inside, but it wasn't my mom.
"Uhhhhh oh." I muttered, peering through the window of the door. Danny looked at me with a mildly worried expression.
"What's wrong?" He tried to look inside as i held him back and groaned.
"My dad is here." I sighed, my nose wrinkling up in disgust.
"I...take it we do not like your father?" Danny said quietly in my ear as the shadow grew closer, clearer and darker.
"No. No we do not." I murmured as my father opened the door, he towered over me with his dull expression and even duller e/c eyes. Everyone always told me i looked like the spitting image of my father, and i believe it's due to the fact that we share similar...inclinations. He's just never had the balls to go through with it.
"Y/n." He gruffed, and then glanced to Danny with a tight stare. "Who the hell's this?"
"Dad..that's not your business." I warned. The last time we had this argument it ended with him and i wrestling on the ground for each other's throats, fighting for the same knife.
"Hmm.." He sneered. "I think it is when you're bringing him to your parent's house." I glared up at him. The tension was so thick it was palpable.
"My name is Ripley, sir." Danny said with a polite smile, cutting between my father and i. I looked at Danny, who had taken the mantle of staring my father down.
"Ripley, huh?" He said after many excrutiating seconds, "And what exactly are you doing with my daughter, Ripley?" He asked, leaning against the door frame.
"In a few words or less, we're slowly starting a relationship together, a partnership of sorts." He looked at me out of the corner of his eye with a little smirk. I rolled my eyes at him and snorted quietly.
A partnership, huh? Is that what he calls murder and sex?
"What's that supposed to mean?" My dad asked, eyeballing back and forth between Danny and i.
"It means, he's my boyfriend. Let it go, dad." I sighed, frustrated already and stormed my way inside.

"Mom?" I called, looking around the corners into the living room and kitchen for her. I could hear her in her bedroom crying softly to herself in her comfy chair by the window as i stepped in.
"Mom." I announced to her, she snapped her head up to look at me and her lip quivered.
"Y/n!" She exclaimed, reaching a hand out towards me. Before she could even get past her knee i was already across the room and had her hand in mine. I patted her frail little hand soothingly, and knelt on the floor in front of her. She petted my hair smooth with her free hand.
"Who could have done this to your sweet sister?" She hiccupped. I had to bite the inside of my cheek so i didn't accidentally say anything that upset her further.
I've done enough damage to my poor mother.
"Honey...please be careful out there. I couldn't take it if i lost you too."
"I will mom, i promise." I sighed, hanging my head low and brushing her knuckles with my thumb.
"Oh. Is this your friend, dear?" She said suddenly.
"I'm Ripley, ma'am. Y/n's boyfriend. It's a pleasure to meet you, and my deepest condolences for your loss." Daniel's voice commanded the room as he stepped in it, taking my mother's free hand in his to give her a polite handshake.
"What a gentleman!" She scoffed, smiling a little at him.
"Handsome too." She said quietly, nudging my hand that held hers with her fingers, and I smirked up at her. Danny pretended not to notice as he stood up straight, and took the spot by the unlit fireplace silently. He must just want to stay out of the way.
"Y/n, the police are going to contact you to ask you some questions. They already interviewed your father and i, they'll probably call you by tomorrow."
"Oh, okay...what will they ask me?" I asked, innocently.
"Just where you were last night, if you've had any contact with her recently. Fighting. Things like that. Just be honest with them sweetie." She smiled down at me sadly, patting my hand.
Yeah, like that'll happen.
My father's footsteps broke the atmosphere and i glanced to the doorway, he had a small sack of frozen peas on his shoulder, and he glared daggers at Danny.
What happened between the two of them? I left Danny alone for five minutes, and he's getting into trouble. He noticed my suspicious glancing and smiled innocently at me.

"Hey mama, I'll be right back." I sighed, releasing her hands and nodding my head for Danny to follow behind me. He did as was told and jumped up quickly, rubbing a small circle on my back as we passed my father. I led Danny into the hallway and into the living room, where my father's tv tray was turned over on it's side, like it had been shoved. I turned around to face him once we were out of earshot of my parents in the other room. Danny's eyes were fixed to my expression, scanning for any sign of distress or anger
"What happened with my dad?" I asked as i peered around the corner to see if he was listening.
"Nothing major, just....a little push." Danny eyed the tv tray on the floor for a moment before returning his gaze to me.
"What. Happened?" I hissed, a little more urgently. He sighed, and shifted his weight.
"Well...he said a few unsavory things about you regarding your...promiscuity, so i shoved him. And told him not to say that in front of me ever again."
"Wait, what?" I narrowed my glare towards my mother's door. I could hear my mother and father talking, but i couldn't hear what they were saying.
"I don't like when someone talks that way about what's mine." He said softly, putting his hands on my shoulders and letting his hands trail down to slip into mine.
"And you're mine." He leaned in to plant a gentle kiss on my neck, i sighed softly. Of course my father would say something in front of Danny. He has no idea what kind of fire he's playing with.
"Danny...you can't shove him, okay? Dont do that again. We can't give my parents any reason to think badly of you. But as long as my mom likes you you're golden." I sighed, petting his face on both sides.
"Please behave for me." I said, rubbing his cheekbones with my thumbs, he practically purred in my hands at the sensation.
"Hmmm...your wish is my command, princess." He sighed, nuzzling into my hands as he looked at me. His bright blue eyes never failed to captivate my attention and heart.
How did i ever get so lucky to be picked by Daniel?
"Lets go in there, shed some tears, then leave, okay? We have something important to do later." I tilted my head up at him, earning a little chuckle from his chest as he let his hands rest on my waist.
"What's that, love?"
"Finding Joseph." I grinned up at him, like it was some joke between us, and the light in his eye turned dark with bloodlust, and a sinister smirk spread over his handsome face.
"Oh, darling~" he chuckled, "It's like you know how to get me worked up." He growled softly as his grip tightened on my body.
I kissed the tip of his nose and patted his face lovingly as i pried myself from his grip and led him back in the room. My father had taken up a post by my mom, and was awkwardly patting her back and shifting uncomfortably in his spot, for someone who just lost his youngest child you'd think he'd show some emotion. Maybe the "psycho gene" is hereditary.
"Dad." I said, walking in the room. "What did you say to...Ripley?" His attention snapped to glare at Danny.
"Nuh-uh. I asked you. Look at me. Don't look at him. He's not in the wrong here." I glared at my father.
"You realize I'm literally your last child, right? Maybe you should think about that before you insult me again. I wont hesitate to cut you out again." He returned my glare and clenched his jaw. He wanted to say something, but chose against it.
Smart.
"Y/n, please dont argue with your father..." my mom said pitifully in her chair. "My heart just can't take it right now, dear.." i clenched my own jaw.
"Sorry, mom.." I narrowed my eyes at my father. He returned my glare with a disdainful sneer, then his face paled and he looked away from me. I turned to look at Danny and he had a too-innocent, sweet smile in my direction.
Something wasn't right between them. I just hope Danny doesn't go crazy and do something drastic.
Would i be able to keep a leash on Ghostface? Danny, maybe. But Ghostface seemed to be an entity all of his own within Daniel, and I don't know if i can keep him from doing something stupid.
