《New Earth: Arrow》Chapter 44

"So, did your mom make it to the airport alright?" Emiko asked Oliver as he arrived at Queen Consolidated the next day.
"Yeah, I'm just glad that we own more than one jet. She left this morning." Oliver said.
"Did she say where she was headed?" Emiko asked.
"Hong Kong. I'm hoping she has a more pleasant experience there than I did." Oliver said.
"Sounds like fun. But anyways, the board is waiting inside. You sure you want to do this? After all, once you do, there's no going back." Emiko said.
"If my experiences with Isabel Rochev taught me anything, it's that I can only trust family. Besides Emiko, despite being an assassin, you also have a real MBA, which is one more qualification than I have." Oliver said.
"True, but what about the board?" Emiko asked.
"Don't worry about it. I made sure to check and it turns out that I can appoint my own successor without the board's consent." Oliver assured her.
"Okay, if you're sure." Emiko said, since she didn't want to cause any more problems for her brother, since the two of them had truly made peace and becoming CEO of Queen Consolidated would also make it harder for the Ninth Circle eliminate her, since attacking the CEO of a major company, along with being Oliver Queen's sister, would bring a lot of heat towards the Ninth Circle. She could assume that the fact that she was under the Green Arrow's protection was the reason she hadn't been targeted, since she was sure that the Circle would've figured out that she'd betrayed them by now.
"What's going through your head?" Oliver asked.
"The ninth circle. I'm trying to figure out why they haven't attacked me yet for desertion." Emiko said.
"We'll worry about the Ninth Circle when and if they become a problem. For right now, we need to stay in the moment." Oliver said.
"You're probably right. Speaking of which, you should probably get in there." Emiko said, referring to the meeting with the board of directors.
"You're probably right." Oliver agreed as he headed inside.
"Mr. Queen, how nice of you to finally join us." Mr. Dennis said with contempt.
"My apologies for being late, but I had a family situation to address." Oliver said, shooting Mr. Dennis a glare that clearly read just give me a reason to fire you. I dare you.
Fortunately, Mr. Dennis got the point and reined in his behavior, since it was well known among the board that Oliver wanted him gone more than any of them.

"So, why did you call this meeting Mr. Queen?" another board member asked.
"I called this meeting to say that I am stepping down as CEO of Queen Consolidated." Oliver said.
"Really, why is that?" Dennis asked, secretly relieved that he no longer had to put up with Oliver.
"Because I have decided to put my energy into a new venture, one I am far more passionate about than running this company and you'll find out what it is soon enough. And I also thought I'd let you know that I have already chosen my successor, as is my right as the current CEO, since I believe that the policy is that the board can only choose my successor if I have not already done so." Oliver said, secretly enjoying the brief look of disappointment on Dennis's face.
"Who have you selected?" another one of the board members asked.
"I'm glad you asked. Ladies and gentlemen, please meet your new CEO, Emiko Adachi." Oliver said as Emiko entered the room.
"Emiko Adachi Queen." Emiko said.
"Excuse me?" Dennis asked.
"Yes, Emiko is my sister. It's a complicated story that you do not need to know about, but since she is a member of my family, she is the best candidate to run Queen Consolidated." Oliver said, making it clear it was not up for discussion.
"Is she at least better qualified for the position than you are?" one of the board members asked and Emiko chuckled.
"Yes, unlike my brother, I actually do have my MBA and before he died, I actually did attempt to get my father to give me the company, since I knew that Oliver never really wanted it, but I did." Emiko said as she pulled out copies of both her resume and business model and let the board hand them out.
"I have to say, these are very impressive qualifications." one of the board members said as they looked over the papers.
"Thank you." Emiko said.
"So, I take it that you all approve of Emiko taking over the company?" Oliver asked and they all nodded, though he could tell that Emiko would still need to keep an eye on Mr. Dennis.
"Great. This change will be effective by the end of the day, once we get the last of the paperwork filled out." Oliver said and the board all nodded in agreement.
"So, the board was okay with the transition in power?" Thea asked Oliver as they, plus Emiko, Laurel, John, Roy, Felicity, Rene, Dinah and Vincent gathered in the bunker.

"Yeah, though Felicity, would you mind doing some digging on Dennis. I don't trust him." Oliver said.
"Done." Felicity agreed.
"Thank you." Oliver said.
"Where's Slade?" John asked.
"Shadowing my mom while she's on her trip. I called Tatsu and asked her to help with that and she'll be meeting up with them when they arrive." Oliver said.
"And is Tatsu aware of the other reality?" Felicity asked.
"She is. I asked J'onn to pay her a visit after the world was first rebooted and honestly, I'm pretty sure half the reason she agreed was so that she could keep an eye on Slade." Oliver said.
"So she doesn't trust him either?" Felicity asked.
"Only because I told her stories about Slade, but she trusts me enough to know that I wouldn't have let Slade anywhere near my mom if I didn't believe that he was on our side." Oliver said.
"And if something goes wrong, can't you just teleport over there and zap him?" Roy asked.
"Actually, I can't." Oliver said.
"What do you mean? I thought you were the Spectre." Thea asked.
"I was, but a few nights ago, Mar Novu showed up and basically put a block on my powers." Oliver said.
"Why would he do that?" John asked.
"Because apparently while Ollie was fighting Slade, it unlocked the full power of the spectre and if he'd been allowed to keep it, his body would've become dependent on it and since he'll likely need to use it all up in whatever Crisis is going to throw at us, losing it would've killed him. This way, Ollie still has the power, but he won't become dependent on it." Laurel said.
"Makes sense. And honestly Oliver, you've never needed powers to be a hero." Rene said.
"That's what I told him." Laurel said.
"Honestly, I never wanted those powers to begin with, since I don't need them and I never used them for anything more than restoring people's memories." Oliver said.
"That's still more than I've used my powers." Thea said.
"What do you mean?" Roy asked.
"What I mean is that like Ollie, I didn't ask for these powers and while they're great, I never really use them. I've had a lot of time to think and I realized that while being Tsunami is great, it's not the same for me as being the Black Canary is for Laurel, since really the only thing that's changed for her is that now her cry comes from her vocal cords instead of a device. But honestly, I miss being Speedy." Thea said.
"Wait, are you saying you don't want your powers?" Oliver asked.
"Actually yes. I know I always thought it would be cool to have powers, but honestly, I don't need them." Thea said.
"Are you sure about that?" Oliver asked.
"Yeah why?" Thea asked.
"Because I think there might be a way to get rid of your powers." Oliver said.
"How?" Thea asked.
"While you, Roy and Nyssa were travelling the world destroying Lazarus Pits, Barry's team actually managed to develop a cure for metahumans. It's actually what Caitlin based her research on the stabilization cure off of." Oliver said.
"Wow, wait, why didn't they just use it to cure every meta in Iron Heights?" Thea asked.
"I asked Barry about that and he told me that when Cisco and Caitlin started working on the cure, they agreed that they'd never force the cure on anyone. Taking it would be a choice and honestly, I respect that." Oliver said.
"Makes sense too. Since if the cure fell into the wrong hands, they could depower Team Flash." John said.
"Exactly. Barry told me that the only means they know of that can reverse the cure is Novu's power, since Cisco took the cure before Crisis, but Novu gave him back his powers during Crisis." Oliver said.
"Do you think they'd be willing to make a dose of it for me?" Thea asked.
"I can ask, but Thea, you need to be sure about this, since if you get rid of your powers, you likely won't be able to get them back. At least not until Crisis comes." Oliver said.
"And honestly, I don't think I'll need them till the crisis." Oliver said and Thea nodded.
"I'm sure." Thea said and Oliver nodded.
"I'll make the phone call." Oliver said and Thea nodded at her brother gratefully.
"So, what's the plan for the city? We know that Grant Wilson has got to be planning something big now that he's in control of the Deathstrokes." Rene asked.
"Well, I'm planning on announcing my candidacy for mayor this weekend, so that should help put a dent in some of his plans. I also need to talk to Star Labs about recreating the mirakuru cure so that we can cure all of those soldiers. For now, there isn't much we can do, since the timeline has changed." Oliver said and they nodded in agreement as they moved to suit up for the night.

The Gatekeeper
Quick Synopsis:This is the story of Reylor, a god-like existence who lost a great portion of his strength when accidentally sent from his “home” to another world. Making friends and learning to harness to power of magic, he maintains his commitment to his prior duty and proceeds to fight against corruption, both on a political front and against what is known as the shade.(Note, this story focuses on action and adventure, so politics are not in depth) This has been my first novel, which was primarilly inteded as a learning experience, and so it may be a bit rough in regards, but it should definitely be readable and it is a full story. I may make some adjustments to it later on, but there's no guarantee... anyhow, it's free to read, so give it a go! Also, feel free to check out my new website: aretornovels.wordpress.com
