Weeks had passes since Manik and Sonakshi's first encounter, and within a day or two, both of them had slipped out of each other's mind. For the first two days, Manik actually waited for Sonakshi's call, and Sonakhi did contemplate whether or not to give him a call. Anyhow, she didn't, and now they were just two people who met at a party and then forget about it later.

One afternoon, it was almost lunch break at Manik's workplace, when his phone rang. It was his dad, he answered and his dad instructed,"Manik Beta, I have recommended Sonakshi to one of my patients, but looks like I forgot his file at home. Ravi da will come and give you the file, you go and give it to Sonakshi. The hospital she works in is next to your bank." Manik opposed, "Why can't Ravi Da go baba?" "Your mom's friends are coming over, he has work at home, I thought you had lunch break, so please beta." "Ok Dad, I'll go..." Manik replied and cut the phone. "I had almost forgotten about Sonakshi...well anyway let's go and find out if she has been thinking about me." A playful smile crept on his face as he thought of having lunch with her- why he wanted to spend time with her, he did not know. Maybe because she gave him a break from the usual cheesy and clingy conversations. He grabbed his tiffin and the file Ravi da had brought and left for the hospital.

Sonakshi was just about to leave for the canteen, when there was a knock on the door. "Come in" she said...and Manik walked in. "Had almost forgotten about this one", she thought to herself. "Hello Dr.Bose, here's the file of Papa's patient", Manik said, greeting her. "Hii Manik, thanks for stopping by", saying so she took the file from Manik, kept it on her desk and was about to head out. Manik stopped her and said, pretending to be dejected "So you didn't even call me first..." Sonakshi teased him by saying, "You were waiting for my call?" Manik smiled and answered "Haha, you wish Sonakhi, I actually had almost forgotten about it until dad called me today." "Same here, it slipped out of my mind after a day or two, so I didn't call." "Well so none of us was thinking about the other, no expectations, nice... anyway, I was wondering if we could have lunch together now....office mein bhi break haina so.. " Manik suggested. "Sure, let's go, the canteen is downstairs." Sonakshi grabbed her tiffin and both of them headed to the canteen.

For about a minute or two the clinking of spoons and dishes, and the sound of chairs being scrapped against the floor were the only sounds in the canteen. Manik and Sonakshi ate in silence, Sonakshi was the kind who didn't like to force any conversation, and Manik always waited for the other person to begin... However in Sonakshi's case he took a lot of first steps, so he decided to break the silence, he coughed to grab her attention and began, "So tumhari family mein kon kon hai?" "Great conversation starter Mr.Malhotra." Sonakshi answered. Manik had had too much of this girl already, 'what does she think of herself, she never talks to me properly, I'm making a fool out of myself by trying to talk to her.' He thought to himself. He was surprised that his anger hadn't taken over when the first met. Manik spoke again, this time in a rather inhospitable tone, "Tum mujhe sidhe sidhe kabhi jawaab nahi de sakti na?" Sonakshi noticed the coldness in his voice and said, "Sorry, batati hu...I live with my parents and my elder brother...do you have any sibling?" "Yes, an elder sister, and her husband who lives with us." Manik answered,this time with a sense of satisfaction. Sonakshi didn't fail to notice this as well and commented, "Tum har baat apne ego pe le lete ho na." Manik turned cold again, "Ha, itni mehnat maine kisi ladki k peeche nahi ki, kabhi karni hi nahi padi...but tum toh itni alag ho, mujhe dekhke bhi ignore kiya, toh obvious si baat haina ki I'll try to maintain my 'heart throb' wali image." "Mujhe nahi lagta image maintain ho rahi hai, I'm not yet attracted to you..." Sonakshi replied, poking him once again. And that's it, Manik Malhotra's anger had reached the rooftop... This girl was something else...she ignored him, forgot about him, and inspite of sharing a few drinks and a meal with him, she wasn't attracted to him at all! This was definitely a first time experience for Manik, and it certainly wasn't a good one. Manik stood up, his nose flaring, and his pupils dilating in anger, he swiftly moved and sat next to Sonakshi, this girl had triggered his temper and how. Sonakshi was intimidated by his sudden movement, she tried to increase the distance between them, but Manik didn't let her, instead, he edged closer...the smile on Sonakshi's face disappeared, she looked at him perplexed, trying to make a head or tail of what was going on. What exactly was he trying to do, kiss her until she agrees he's attractive? Or just look at her angrily and intimidate her to make her accept the fact he's handsome. She was confused. And Manik was thoroughly enjoying the look on her face, as he stared into her questioning eyes. He brought his face closer to her ears and whispered in his husky voice, "Are your heart beats racing due to our proximity?" This made the hair on Sonakshi's neck stand and she shifted her face instinctively. Manik took it as a sign, a sign that she was affected by his closeness, he moved away and took his original seat across her and smiled victoriously. Clearing her confusion, he spoke "So Dr.Bose, even you're affected by my closeness, my charm worked on you atlast!" Sonakshi took a sigh of relief and asked him, "All this to satisfy your man ego?" Manik replied, "Obviously!" I didn't need to go so far to attract a girl! You're a tough nut baby!" Sonakshi rolled her eyes at him. Manik asked her, teasingly, "What did you think, I was going to kiss you?" Sonakshi looked down in embarrassment and said, "Well...yes.." Manik smiled, "Itna acha naseeb nahi hai tumhara.." "Aise baat hai toh acha naseeb chahiye bhi nahi... anyways bye, lunch time is over!" Manik glanced at his watch and said "Oh ya, I should get going." Manik stopped next to her and whispered, "Goodbye Dr.Bose, will see you soon" before leaving. Sonakshi smiled at his kiddish antiques and wondered how she missed out noticing his charm the first time her eyes fell on him...she then slapped her forehead and told herself, "Amar paa kamoniyo, he's arrogant and short tempered!''(Charming my foot, he's arrogant and short tempered)
