Marina is seeing Jonathan out

Marina - Thanks John, you have been a great help today. I owe you one for this

Jonathan - I will let you know when I want a favour in return, you can count on that

Marina -Knowing you I am sure you will yes

Jonathan - Are you really sure she did it?

Marina - Of course I am, she confessed to me I told you that already and I wanted to give her a little shove to do the right thing and confess

Jonathan - I keep wondering if there is more to this than meets the eye

Marina - Really? Like what?

Jonathan - I knew Joan Ferguson. Oh not very well, it was only briefly and quite a few years ago now, but I remember her well. A hard lady to forget. The point is she wasn't the type who made friends easily and I have a hard time accepting that you would have been a close friend with her and cared enough about her to want her killer to pay the price

Marina - Well it's the truth Johnny boy, it really is. Yes, I admit that dear old Joan had an ability to rub people up the wrong way sometimes, but her bark was so much worse than her bite it really was. I grew awfully fond of the old girl in the end and for all her faults she didn't deserve a nasty death, murdered by her niece did she. As a law-abiding citizen, I must see that justice is done not just because I was Joan's friend but also because it's the right thing to do. Lucy confessed to me and now I am making sure she confesses to Grace too

Jonathan - Vern commendable Marina! Really it is!

Marina - And once again I would like to thank you for your help in this matter John. Let me know when you want your favour in return and I will be ready and waiting to oblige

Marina smiles sweetly

Lucy is locked back in her cell by Vern

She is still distressed

Lucy - I must see Grace right away! I killed my poor dear aunt and I need to confess and clear my conscience!

Vern - Inspector Grace will be called in right away don't worry, I will go and get him right now

Lucy - Yes, good! I must do the right thing and I will feel better once I have done it!

Vern - Yes, I'm sure you will Lucy. I'll go and ring him now

Vern walks off

Lucy (to herself) - I can't believe what I have done! I am so sorry Auntie Joan!

Wentworth

The women are on an outside rec

Sasha is walking with Judy

Sasha - So Winter suggests a fight, the two of us. The winner gets to be the top dog. What do you think I should do Jude?

Judy - You don't have to fight her for top dog honey, that might be the way it was at the old Blackmoor but it's never been the way we do things here

Sasha - I know, but Winter is bound to tell the other women. It looks bad for me if I refuse to fight her, she will tell them I am gutless and they will believe it. I don't want to do it but I am starting to think I don't have a whole lot of choice

Judy - I don't like it, I still say its a bad idea to fight her

Abigail is on her own in another part of the garden as Katie approaches

Katie - All by yourself again I see?

Abigail - As I said before, the way I like it so bugger off will you

Katie moves off with a shrug

Vern is in his office on the phone as Marina walks in looking smug

Vern - Ok, see you soon then

Vern hangs up the phone

Marina - Was that Grace?

Vern - Yes, he is coming over in about an hour or so to talk to Lucy

Marina - I told you my idea was a good one, didn't I! Pretty clever of me don't you think?

Vern - Yes it's pretty smart, but are you sure it will work?

Marina - Of course, it will, you saw what she was like, she really believes that she did it now

Vern - And what about this Edmunds character? What did you tell him about this? Does he know the truth?

Marina - Don't be silly, of course, he doesn't. I simply told him that we were close friends of Ferguson and that we both knew that Lucy did it and that we wanted her to do the right thing. I told him we cared so much about Joan that it upset us to think of her possibly getting off with it

Vern - And did he buy that?

Marina - Yes, no reason why he shouldn't, is there? I was not about to tell someone like Edmunds the truth believe me. He has been a useful man to me in the past but not someone I would trust with information like that

Vern - Well that's a relief, I was worrying that we'd end up paying the man blackmail money to keep him quiet

Marina - No fear, frankly I am slightly disappointed that you didn't credit me with more intelligence. You should have known that I would have the sense not to tell him the truth

Sasha and Judy are still walking around the garden as Marie approaches with a gang

Marie - Thought anymore on what I said Cartwright?

Sasha - Yes I've thought about it

Marie - And?..what did you decide?

Prisoner - Yeah come on Sasha tell us, we're all dying to know

Sasha - It's not a good idea to fight, we don't do that here

Marie and her gang laugh

Marie - I might have guessed it, what a gutless wonder!

Prisoner - Yeah, a real wimp! She's scared of you Marie!

Marie - Yeah, scared silly eh!

Judy - Look will you pack of bitches give it a rest! Sasha is no wimp, she just wants to stick to the rules of Wentworth that's all

Marie - Well I say the rules suck! I want to fight as we did at Blackmoor. But if you really aren't prepared to face that challenge then it's just like I said, you're piss weak Cartwright

Marie's gang all nod along in agreement

Sasha - Alright alright you've made your point! I'll fight you ok!

Marie looks surprised and so does Judy

Marie - You really mean that?

Sasha - Yes, damn right I do. You want a fight you've got it

Marie chuckles

Marie - Well well well, don't tell me you're finally showing some guts sweetheart, I never thought you would!

Judy (fretful) - Honey you don't have to do this, don't be foolish eh

Sasha - Jude I do have to do it and if you think about it for a second I am sure you will be able to see why I have to. If I back down now I will lose the women's respect and you know it

Marie - Yeah so belt up Bryant! Go back to your garden and leave the big girls to play!

Sasha - When do you want to do it?

Marie - Tomorrow afternoon, out here, behind the shed so that we can avoid the screws being involved

Sasha nods her head

Sasha - Ok, sounds fine to me. Tomorrow afternoon behind the shed it is

Marie - You will be able to keep nit for us, Bryant, seeing as you hate this so much. That way you won't need to watch it and you can avoid getting even further upset over it

Judy - How thoughtful of you to think of such a thing Marie

Marie - I'm all heart, you should know that by now. Gotta think of that pacemaker of yours too, doesn't do for it to get too overexcited now does it

Sasha - Yes ok Winter, that will be enough with the comments now

Grace is in Blackmoors reception with Vern and Marina

Vern - She really was very anxious to see you right away

Grace - And she is ready to confess you say?

Marina - Oh yes, very keen to confess. The guilt it seems has finally eaten away at her and she wants to do the right thing

Grace - Excellent, if only more of them decided to do the right thing, it would make my job a whole lot easier!

Vern - Shall I take you to an interview room while Marina gets Ferguson for you?

Grace - Yes, please. Now I am curious to hear her explanation for why she did it. I knew all along that she did it, I just didn't know why and I am dying to find out

They move off

Cassie and Aaron are alone at the flat. Cassie looks anxious

Cassie - You know I love you being here Aaron, but I think you had better go before mum gets home

Aaron- But why babe? Miss Bennett said I can visit remember and we haven't done anything wrong

Cassie - I know, but she is not happy about that incident with the music. It might be best if you stay out of her way for a few days to give her a chance to get over it

Aaron looks angry

Aaron - Yes damn that stupid interfering old bag for poking her nose in. I feel like banging on her door right now to tell her what I think of her the old cow!

Cassie laughs nervously

Cassie - Yeah but you won't will you!

Aaron looks angry

Grace is waiting in a room as Lucy is let in to see him

Grace - Good evening Lucy

Lucy - Yes, evening inspector

Grace - I was told you wanted to see me and make a confession?

Lucy - Yes that's right, you see I did kill my aunt. I was too scared to own up before

Grace - And now you've had a change of heart?

Lucy - Yes that's right, the guilt has eaten away at me

Grace - You'd best sit down and fill me in on the details

Lucy takes a seat

Aaron knocks loudly on the neighbours front door

Cassie is with him looking extremely worried

Cassie - Darling this is a really bad idea, I think we should just not do this

Aaron - Relax babe, I only want a word with the old bat that's all

The neighbour opens her door

Neighbour - Oh it's you two! Well then, what can I do for you?

Aaron - We came to have a word

Neighbour - If it's to apologise for the music then I should damn well think so too, in my day kids would get a good hiding for behaviour like that

Aaron - Let's just go inside shall we

Aaron pushes his way into the flat, Cassie follows

The neighbour rushes in after them looking furious

Neighbour - Er excuse me, you can't just barge in here uninvited like this, get out at once!

Aaron - SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP BITCH! I'VE GOT SOMETHING TO SAY AND YOU'RE GONNA BLOODY WELL LISTEN!

Aaron forces the old lady into a chair

Aaron - Now you will sit there and listen and I won't leave here until I've said what I want to say

The lady and Cassie both look uneasy

Lucy dabs her eyes with a tissue

Lucy - So we argued, I lashed out. She fell and hit her head

Grace - So it was an accident is what you're saying?

Lucy - Yes, a horrible horrible accident. I never meant to kill anyone

Grace - Why didn't you own up right away instead of dumping the body?

Lucy - I dunno, I panicked I guess

Grace - Well it was a bloody stupid thing to do, it does not do you any favours

Lucy - Yes I realise that

Grace - Was there anyone else with you at the time of the incident?

Lucy - No, no one at all. It was just Joan and me by ourselves

Grace - Really? Because I have a had time believing that you managed to move the body all by yourself

Lucy - They say a person can find super strength in times of crisis Inspector, that is what must have happened here

Grace - Hmmm, I see

Lucy - Inspector what will happen now?

Grace - You will be sent to court, it will be up to them to decide on the sentence. Pleading guilty will do you a big favour and so will showing remorse. We're probably looking at manslaughter rather than murder which will get you a lesser sentence

Lucy - I am ready to face the consequences. I just don't know how I will ever face father again after this!

Aaron paces the room

Aaron - So Cass and I did not appreciate you telling tales to Miss Bennett

Neighbour - And I didn't appreciate the loud music disturbing the peace!

Aaron - You should have come and spoken to us if you had a problem, not go behind our backs getting us into trouble with Cassie's mum

Neighbour - I felt she had a right to know what her daughter and her boyfriend get up to while she isn't around. If my daughter was seeing a boy like you I would want to know about his behaviour!

Aaron - A boy like me, what's a boy like me then? Go on, let's hear it

Neighbour - A thug and a lout! A horrid boy who plays music too loudly and forces his way into other peoples homes! A criminal to I bet!

Aaron - Shut up bitch, you don't even know me!

Neighbour - I know enough from the little I have seen, you are bad to the bone and young Cassie here should dump you if she has any sense

Aaron suddenly lashes out, striking the old lady across the face with his hand

She cries out in pain and shock

Cassie covers her face in horror

Aaron leans in close to her face and snarls

Aaron - You think I'm bad to the bone do you? In that case, you had better not piss me off again in the future because believe me you do not want to know just how bad I can really be

Aaron takes his knife out of his pocket and pokes it in her face

The lady looks terrified

Cassie also looks terrified

The lady shakes her head in terror

Neighbour - Please don't be foolish, don't use that thing

Cassie - Aaron, please I think we've scared her enough

Aaron - Oh don't worry, I won't use it. At least not today, but if you ever make me mad again then who knows? Maybe then I will use it, so have a think about that and take this as a warning

Aaron puts his knife away again

Aaron - Oh and one other thing old lady, I wouldn't like it if any of this got back to Miss Bennett or the police. It stays between the three of us ok?

The neighbour nods her head

Neighbour - Yes, yes I won't say anything to anyone!

Aaron - You promise?

Neighbour - Yes! Yes, I promise!

Aaron - Good, well now we understand each other. Come on Cassie our work here is done, we can go now

Aaron starts to leave but turns back

Aaron - If you go back on your promise I will return to see you, you've been warned

Aaron continues to leave

Cassie leans over to whisper to the woman

Cassie - I'm so sorry, I really am

Cassie follows Aaron out

Aaron - Well that showed her eh!

They step outside the flat to find Vera standing outside

Vera - Oh hello, what were you two doing in there?

Aaron grins, Cassie looks fretful

GATESLAM

PART 2

Marina is seeing Grace out

Grace - So she gave a full confession, admitted everything

Marina - What sort of sentence do you think she will get?

Grace- Hard to say,she is clearly full of remorse and thats bound to help her get a lighter sentence

Marina - I think I would be full of remorse too if I killed my own aunt. What goes through these criminals heads when they commit their crimes is something we law-abiding citizens can only attempt a guess at!

Grace - Yes quite...well until the next time...

Marina - Yes, have a good evening

As Grace is leaving, Mr Sullivan arrives

Mr Sullivan - I am here to see my client again

Marina smiles

Marina - You're timing is spot on, I think she has something important she wants to tell you

Vern is sat behind his desk as Officer Owens shows Geoff and Stud into the room

Vern - I was told that you two wanted to see me?

Geoff - Yes that's correct. We have something important to discuss with you

Vern - Well I'm listening, go-ahead

Geoff - We're not happy with the conditions here. We're not happy with being locked in our cells for 23 hours a day

Stud - Yeah, and we reckon it's about time something was done to improve our lives in here

Cassie smiles

Cassie - Mum, how long were you standing there for?

Vera - I only just arrived, I was about to get my keys out to go inside.....so is one of you going to answer me? What were you doing in there?

Cassie - Er...well you see...

Aaron - Miss Bennett, the poor old dear wanted someone to have a look at her telly for her as it was not working properly, so I offered to have a look to make up for upsetting her with the music

Vera looks pleased

Vera - What a very nice gesture Aaron! That's a big step in the right direction young man!

Aaron - I know Miss Bennett, I really do try my best to be a good lad. I am not half as bad as you may think

Vera - You can stay for dinner if you like

Aaron - Oh thank you so much, I would love to!

The three of them go inside the flat

Vern sits back in his chair and laughs his head off

Vern - Are you hearing this Officer Owens? I never knew these two were such a pair of comedians

Officer Owens tries to laugh along but looks uncomfortable

Geoff - What is so funny Mr Schofield?

Vern - You two, that's what. Coming in here complaining about conditions here, expecting something better. This place is a high-security prison, not a holiday camp. You get treated exactly the way you deserve to be treated. In fact, in my view, you actually get treated better than you deserve

Stud - It's not right to keep us caged up with nothing to occupy our minds. We need something to do

Vern - When the work unit opens you will have something to do, fear not

Geoff - And when will that be? It's taking a bloody long time

Vern - It will be ready when it's ready. In the meantime, you should be grateful that you get treated better than you deserve and quit complaining like babies!

Geoff- What about the food?

Vern - What about it?

Geoff - We told you how bad it is, you wouldn't feed a dog food as bad as the food we have to eat

Vern - Well once again all I can say is that its better than what you pack of criminals deserve

Stud - You can only push us so far. Treat us like animals and sooner or later we will decide we've had enough and fight back

Vern - Threats now is it Wilson?

Stud - Just a warning that's all

Vern loses his temper

Vern - I GIVE THE WARNINGS OUT AROUND HERE, NO ONE ELSE! YOU TWO HAD BETTER THINK ABOUT YOUR ATTITUDES BECAUSE UNLESS I SEE A BIG IMPROVEMENT SOON I WILL START DISHING OUT PUNISHMENTS!

Geoff - What can you do to us that is worse than the hell we're all going through already?

Vern - Push me and you'll find out, but I wouldn't recommend it. Now I would like to go home soon so is there anything else?

Stud - Yes, one last thing

Vern - Hurry up and tell me then

Stud - We wanted to know if you have taken out concerns seriously over the cracks in the walls?

Vern - As I already told you, men, the cracks are nothing to worry about. Mrs Raymond and I do not have time to waste worrying over anything. Now Officer Owens will take you back to your cells...and here's a word of warning, the next time you want to see me make sure it's over something that really is important. I do not like having my time wasted with this sort of nonsense!

Geoff and Stud leave, both looking angry

Marina shows Lucy in to see Mr Sullivan

Lucy - Oh Mr Sullivan, I'm glad you're here, I was going to ring you

Mr Sullivan - Lucy I have some more news...I have made an application for bail for you...

Lucy - I won't be getting bail now, in fact, I won't be needing you at all

Mr Sullivan - I don't get it? Why ever not?

Lucy - Because I have confessed to Grace, I have owned up to doing it. I will plead guilty in court and throw myself at the judge's mercy

Mr Sullivan looks surprised

Mr Sullivan - So you did do it? I thought you were innocent!

Lucy - Oh sadly not, I am as guilty as sin

Mr Sullivan - You still should have pleaded not guilty. With the evidence against you being so weak I would have got you off without a doubt

Lucy - Maybe but my conscience got the better of me. I want to take what's coming

Mr Sullivan - What a foolish girl! Oh well, it's your life, your right to make such bad choices. I must remind you that I gave you some of my time and still expect to be paid for it

Lucy - Yes don't worry, you will still get paid. It's not like I will be needing the money for anything else is it, not for some years anyway
