Ann is sitting down with Vern

Vern - You are a very attractive woman Ann, I am glad I joined the dating agency now if this is the type of lady I get to meet

Ann smiles

Ann - Well thank you very much, Vincent, you're not too bad yourself

Vern picks up the bottle of wine

Vern - More wine?

Ann - Yes why not, I got a cab here tonight so can drink as much as I like

Vern tops up Ann's wine glass

Vern - So...what do you do for a living Ann?

Ann - I recently went back to what I do best, social welfare. I have years of experience in that field

Vern nods his head

Vern - Oh yes, a worthy career path to go down without a doubt

Ann - I do everything I can to help people who need it

Vern - I can tell that you are a very big-hearted person

Ann - And what about you Vincent, what do you do for a living?

Vern - I hate to blow my own trumpet too often Ann, but I am a highly successful businessman, I have my own chain of restaurants similar to this joint we are in right now. I am a very wealthy man living a most comfortable life!

Ann - Lucky you eh!

Vern - Luck did not come into it, simply sheer hard work....but tell me, Ann, what's the point in all that money if you don't have a lovely woman to share it all with?

Vern gives Ann a smile and she smiles back

Ann - So there is no one else in your life at all right now?

Vern - No, not a soul. I am so lonely it hurts.....but I like what I am seeing right now

Vern winks at Ann

Hannah and Lorraine are looking sheepish

Lee - Well? I'm waiting ladies. I need an explanation for what I saw just now

Hannah - Mum and I are close so what? We love each other

Lee - I am close to my mum too and we love each other too but you won't catch us doing what you two were just doing

Lorraine - The love Hannah and I share is a special kind of love. we aren't your typical mother and daughter!

Lee - You don't say! .....So, how did it happen? You just decided one day to start shagging each other?

Hannah - We got curious and decided to experiment

The two women look distressed

Lorraine - Mr Bailey please don't do that I am begging you

Hannah- We're both begging you

Lorraine - Just keep the secret for us, why report us? We are not hurting anyone else, are we? Why not just leave us alone to get on with it, please?

Lee sighs and looks troubled

Lee - I don't know, i really should report it. It's a serious matter

Hannah - I don't see why really, like mum said, we are not hurting anyone

Lee - Mr Moran would be angry if he knew that I knew and didn't report it

Lorraine - Well we're not about to tell him you know about it, how would anyone ever find out that you know?

Hannah starts to cry

Hannah - Please, I couldn't bear it if they split us up

Lee - Ok..ok i won't report it. But don't think for one minute that I think this is ok. I think it is one of the most disgusting and unnatural things I have ever seen

Lorraine - You're entitled to your opinion Mr Bailey

Lee - One other thing. try not to let anyone else catch you will you, you need to be careful about it. Night patrols are carried out and it won't always be me doing them so have a good think about that

Lorraine - Thanks officer, we will

Lee - Well, I'll leave you both to it then

Lee leaves the cell, clearly looking disgusted

Vern is paying the bill

Vern - May I say what a delightful meal that was, you may congratulate the kitchen staff

Waiter - Thank you, Sir

Ann - Look, Vince, I don't mind paying half the bill. i feel bad letting you pay all of it, it's only fair if we go halves

Vern - Nonsense, I wouldn't hear of it. I am the man and as so I should pay on the first date, its what gentleman do

Ann - Well thank you

Vern - And now please allow me to escort you back home safely. I would not let a lady like you wander the streets alone at this time of the night

Ann - You really are a true gentleman!

Vern - I must get straight to the point and ask...would you like to see me again?

Ann smiles and nods her head

Ann - Yes, I think I would. I've had a lovely night

Vern - That's the answer I wanted to hear. I want to see you again too. You've made me a very happy man tonight. I enjoy your company

Alone again Lorraine and Hannah sit in the darkness

Lorraine grabs a packet of cigarettes, takes one and puts it on her mouth and offers the packet to Hannah

Hannah takes a cigarette too

Lorraine lights hers and then holds the lighter out for Hannah to light hers too

Hannah - Cheers mum...

Hannah takes a long deep drag on her fag

Hannah - Do you think he will keep it to himself?

Lorraine - I have no idea, I hope so. He seemed pretty disgusted about it didn't he

Hannah - I guess most people would be, it's a hard thing for people to understand

Lorraine - This is why we must never let the women here find out about it, that would be a disaster

Hannah - I don't think I could bear it if we got split up....what can we do to prevent that happening?

Lorraine - All we can do is hope and pray he keeps his word and doesn't report us, what more can we do?

At Wentworth, the women are lined up for muster

Lee and Meg are there

Lee looks along the line and see's Hannah and Lorraine, he looks away quickly only to have eye contact with Abigail

Abigail sticks her tongue out at him in a sexually suggestive way

Meg - Ok ladies, I have an announcement to make this morning

Marie - Oh how exciting, I always love a good old announcement

Meg - It is to inform you all that Marcus Collins will be visiting later to talk to you all and to discuss the Restaurant in more detail with you

Marie - Well that sounds thrilling Mrs M!

Meg gives Marie a look and then addresses the women

Meg - Please remember what Mr Moran told you all about this scheme and how much it might help some of you and make sure you don't waste the opportunity to talk to Mr Collins and be a part of the scheme

Cassie watches as Vera leaves for work. She waves her off and then goes to the phone and rings a number

Cassie - Aaron darling, she's gone. You can come over now

Vern and Marina are alone in the office

Marina - So where were you last night then Verny? I waited to see if you might come over and see me

Vern - I was busy last night

Marina - Doing anything interesting?

Vern - No not particularly, i was just visiting my mother. You missed me did you?

Marina - No not particularly, I just thought you might call by that's all

Vern - Maybe tonight i will

Marina - Oh that will be good, i will get some scotch in ready!

Lucy is in her cell as Officer Owens arrives

Officer Owens - Ok Ferguson on your feet

Lucy stands up with a scrawl

Lucy - What is it now?

Officer Owens - Don't give me attitude Ferguson, i don't like that

Lucy - Yes I'm sorry, I am just very depressed today

Officer Owens - Well I may have some news that can cheer you up now

Lucy - What news is that?

Officer Owens - Your lawyer is here to see you like you have been asking for constantly

Lucy brightens up

Lucy - Mr Sullivan right? Not some useless fool from legal aid

Officer Owens - Yes Mr Sullivan, he was who you asked for so we got him for you

Lucy - In that case, lets go at once, I've been desperate to see him for days now

Sasha is on the press looking fed up

Sasha - I reckon i will put myself forward to work in that Restaurant, it's gotta be better than working this thing every day

Katie - Are you sure you'd like it? It's hard work in a hot kitchen. I know because my brother is a chef and says its a very demanding job

Sasha - Well i've always rather enjoyed cooking and made a few nice meals at home, so why not?

Abigail - Becoming a cook does require some talent you know. Just because you may have prepared yourself the odd Omelette at home doesn't mean you'll be cut out for becoming a professional cook

Sasha - Well I'll find out once I give it a go won't I Freestone

Katie talks to Abigail

Katie - Ready to talk to me yet? I really can't see why we can't be friends

Abigail - I told you before, get lost. I wish i knew why you are so interested in me anyway. If you fancy me then stop wasting your time there as I am not interested

Katie - I don't fancy you, don't be so silly. I just want to be friends that's all

Marie - You shouldn't bother with Freestone, Anderton. Her royal highness is a cut above the rest of us didn't ya know that!

Lucy is in an interview room with a very smartly dressed and professional-looking man

Lucy - Mr Sullivan i am glad you could come. You were such a great help to me back in '85 with that nasty business over the fraud accusations. I feel sure you can help again now!

Mr Sullivan - I am happy to help but as you know I am not cheap

Lucy - I know, hire the best and you have to expect to pay for it. I am fine about that same as I was last time

Mr Sullivan - So you can afford to pay me?

Lucy - I certainly can. I still have a lot of savings left believe me

Mr Sullivan - In that case, let's crack on. So all I know so far is that you are in on a murder charge this time right?

Lucy - Yes correct

Mr Sullivan - Very well, give me some more details and we'll go from there

Lucy - Well the entire thing is a farce, the evidence that they used against me is a joke, a complete joke....

....Some moments have passed and Mr Sullivan is scribbling away in his notebook, nodding his head intently

Lucy - So that's it, a hair on her blouse! How can that be damning evidence! I lived in the same house as her for heavens sake!

Mr Sullivan - I agree its weak, even with the reported fight you had and the lack of an alibi, it's still very weak

Lucy - That's what I thought too

Mr Sullivan - I have got people off who had a lot more against them than you do, so i am quite confident I can get you off this without needing to try very hard, I can rip this weak case against you to shreds in court. This sort of thing is a walk in the park for me. I love it when I can do my job and win without even trying

Lucy looks delighted

Lucy - I was hoping you would say that Mr Sullivan!

Aaron is with Cassie at the flat, they have music blasting out of the stereo

Cassie - We really should turn that down a bit in case the neighbours complain

Aaron - Oh relax Cass, you worry way too much!....so what do you want to do today? I thought we could hang out with some mates of mine. Hang out down at the park for a while and then move on from there

Cassie - Well I promised Mum I would look again for a job today

Aaron - Boring!

Cassie - I know but i really should be looking. She gets kinda mad everyday when I still haven't found anything

Aaron - So look extra hard tomorrow, but today? It's too nice a day to spend it job hunting...we can have lots of fun instead

Officer Owens is escorting Lucy back to her cell

Officer Owens - You do seem much happier now, whatever this Mr Sullivan said to you certainly cheered you up

Lucy - Mr Sullivan is one of the best lawyers around. If anyone can get me out of this it's him. He likes winning and only takes on cases he is confident he can win in court. He gets all his clients off, even the guilty ones, so getting me off is going to be super easy since i am innocent! He simply laughed when I told him the so-called evidence that fool Grace has against me

Mr Sullivan is in reception with Marina, signing out

Marina - Your visit was with Lucy Ferguson i believe?

Mr Sullivan - That's correct yes, I am her lawyer and I will be defending her in court

Marian - Oh i see...look I know you aren't really supposed to discuss it but could you give me any clues about what you think her chances are?

Mr Sullivan - Well with me defending her, her chances couldn't be better, you see I never lose a case

Marina - Really?

Mr Sullivan - Oh yes really, I hate losing! I only take on the cases I know I can win. Even if the evidence against them is bad, even if they would normally be found guilty pretty easily, I can still get them off. It's not really about whether a person is innocent or guilty you see, it's all about how well you play the game in court and no one plays it better than I do....and in Lucy's case, the evidence against her is particularly poor. Oh rest assured, i won't need to break into much of a sweat getting a win on this one! this is an easy one!..good day to you now!

Marina - Yes good day

Mr Sullivan strolls out of the prison and Marina watches him go with a concerned look on her face

Hannah is alone mopping corridors as Lee arrives along the corridor

Hannah - Oh hello Mr Bailey!

Lee -Yes hello there Dawson, busy there I see

Hannah -Yeah, lots of floors to mop!

Lee - Keep it up the rate you are doing and it'll be done in no time, I'll leave you to it

Lee begins to walk past

Hannah - Oh wait please Mr Bailey, before you go I wanted a quick word

Lee - Go on?

Hannah - Mum and I wanted to know whether you will say anything or not

Lee - I told you last night that I won't and I meant it

Hannah - Thanks Mr Bailey!

Lee - But I would advise you both to keep out of my way because I find what you do together pretty disgusting and do not really wish to interact with you

Hannah - We're not monsters you know!

Lee - Just get on with your work. I am keeping your secret so be grateful, you can't expect me to feel ok about it as well because I can't

Marina is in the staff room with Officer Owens

Marina - Ferguson saw her lawyer I heard?

Officer Owens - Oh yes and he certainly put her in a better mood

Marian - Yes I spoke briefly to him, he says he can get her off and never loses a case

Officer Owens - Yes...

Marina - But maybe he is deluded and full of himself. Maybe he exaggerates a bit?

Officer Owens shakes her head

Officer Owens - No, i know Mr Sullivan. He really is one of the best. Trust me if anyone's going to get that girl off it will be him

Marina - Oh I see, so her chances are pretty good you'd say?

Officer Owens - Oh yes, with Sullivan defending her they are certainly

Marina - Oh well that's good for Lucy hey!

At Wentworth, the women are in the Recroom

Lorraine and Hannah are talking in a corner

Hannah - So I spoke to Bailey, he assured me he meant it, he will keep the secret

Lorraine - Oh what a relief! Are you sure he meant it?

Hannah - Oh yes, I think so

Vera arrives in the room with Marcus

Vera - Ladies, this is Mr Collins

Abigail is in her cell as Lee arrives in the doorway

Lee - Why on earth are you not down in the Recroom with the others to meet Mr Collins, Freestone?

Abigail - It would be pointless for me to be there, i am not interested in working in some wretched restaurant

Lee - But it was the governor's orders that all the women must attend

Abigail - So report me then!

Lee - No, instead of that why don't you make your way down there now and I won't mention it to anyone

Abigail - I've got a better idea, but it involves you coming in and closing the door

Lee - I told you before, no!

Abigail walks across the room to touch Lee up, he pushes her hands away

Lee - Stop that, it's inappropriate!

Abigail - Oh stop being such a stick in the mud Lee!

Lee - I told you, it's Mr Bailey to you

Abigail - Oh whatever! Now shall we waste more time talking or shall we get down to business?

Lee - You are way out of line!

Abigail laughs as she pulls Lee into the room by his tie and closes the cell door

Marina is with Vern in the office

Marina - So this guy Sullivan, it seems he can get Lucy off

Vern - Well so what? The girl is innocent in case you've forgotten, if he can get her off then that's the right thing

Marina - Yes but think about this, if she gets off then Grace will reopen the case and start looking again for the killer right?

Vern - Well I suppose so yes

Marina - He will. Right now he thinks he has his killer, once she is acquitted he will start looking again

Vern - Maybe he'll try and pin it on poor Mrs Morris next time!

Marina - Yes if we're lucky...or he could come after us

Vern - Maybe, but he won't have anything on us. You said yourself that we covered our tracks well

Marina -Thats just not the point, the point is I could do without the worry of it. Having Lucy go down for it is perfect, no more worry for us. This Mr Sullivan will throw a spanner in the works and I just don't need this at all

Vern If this Sullivan guy can get her off them there is nothing we can really do to stop it is there?

Marina - Maybe..but then again maybe not

Marina sits there looking thoughtful

Vern is somewhat wary

Vern - What are you planning this time?

Marina smirks

Marina - I'm not sure yet, but I think I have the smallest hint of an idea starting to form in my head. It will require getting in touch with an old friend if we want it to work!

Vern - Oh Marina, I do hope this isn't going to be something that will cause me a headache!

Marina - No quite the opposite, I think it will solve our Lucy problem for us
