Sasha is sitting in the back of the van back to Wentworth. It is dark and dismal in the back as she smokes a cigarette. She quietly sobs, the judge's voice plays in her head

Judge - It's to your credit that you eventually decided to change your plea to guilty, although it would have served you better to have pleaded guilty right from the start, you created a lot of unnecessary hassle by failing to do so. Anyhow I will proceed now with sentencing... Sasha Cartwright, for the accidental death of Bill Longley by misadventure I sentence you to 6 years imprisonment, with 3 to be served before parole can be considered

Sasha smokes her cigarette and continues to sob

It is now revealed that Sasha is not alone in the van, two other women are there with her. One of the women looks in her early 40s and the other in her early 20s. They have a slight likeness to each other

The older woman speaks first

Woman - Can't ya stop ya noise? It's driving me mad

Sasha - I can't help it, I got 6 years today

Woman - And I don't care, it's annoying me!

The younger woman speaks

Younger woman - It's annoying me too!

Sasha - I don't give a shit whether it annoys you or not! You're both on the way to Wentworth right?

The older woman - Yes, I believe so

Sasha - Then I must warn you both, I am top dog so don't start by rubbing me up the wrong way, ok?

Younger woman - Top dog, really? You do not look tough enough to be a top dog to me

The older woman laughs

The older woman - I agree, no way are you a top dog, sat there weeping like a baby!

Sasha - I had a nasty shock today that's all, I will bounce back quickly

The older woman - Sure love! Well, I'm sure you are someone to be scared of!

The two women continue to laugh

Sasha - Please don't continue to wind me up, I have given you fair warning

The older woman - Well anyway let me introduce myself. I am Lorraine Dawson and this is my daughter Hannah Dawson

Sasha - I was thinking you might be mother and daughter, you do look alike

Lorraine - Yeah, my Hannah is a beautiful lady just like her mother!

Sasha - What are you both going to prison for?

Hannah - Mum and I are partners in crime!

Lorraine - Yes, a double act!

Sasha - What crimes do you commit?

Lorraine - Robberies on men, we steal their wallets and things like that!

Hannah - Yeah, we get hold of their credit cards and so on!

Sasha - How do you do it?

Hannah - It's easy, one of us seduces the man and takes his attention away. Chat him up, kiss and touch him, and so on. While one of us is doing that the other is busy robbing him blind

Lorraine - We have nothing against them personally and we feel sorry for the men, we'd happily do it to women too but we'd have to find lesbians to do it too!

Sasha - How smart, but your luck ran out did it?

Lorraine sighs

Loraine - Well most sadly, yes. We were on to a really good thing but eventually, we were caught. Occupational hazard!

Sasha - And how long did you get?

Lorraine - Three years each, I tried to ask them to be lenient on my dear Hannah. I tried to say I led my girl astray

Hannah - But I refused to let mum do it, I wanted us both to do the same sentence it's only fair. I couldn't let mum do three years on her own

Lorraine - And I am proud of you darling

Sasha - Three years is not so bad anyway. You will be out long before that with good behaviour. For me, I must serve a minimum of three before they will even consider me for parole

The van arrives back at Wentworth and Meg and Sue are waiting as the three of them are let out

Meg - So you're back Cartwright?

Sasha - Yes, I'm back alright...for at least three years!

Meg - You know your way in

Sasha - Yes

Sasha moves off inside

Meg turns to the other two

Meg - You two follow us in

Meg begins to walk away back to the prison

Hannah seems a bit hesitant, reluctant. She hangs back with her mother

Sue - Will we have the pleasure of your company today then or not?

Hannah - Miss, I'm sorry. I feel a little scared!

Lorraine comforts her daughter

Lorraine - Don't be scared darling, I am with you remember. I will look after you

Lorraine guides Hannah off inside. Sue walks along with them

Lorraine (to Sue) - She's my daughter

Sue - Oh I see. First-timers?

Lorraine - She is yes, me no. I've been inside a few times already

They arrive at reception where Meg is already inducting Sasha

Sue - You two will stand on the line and wait until Mrs Morris has finished with Cartwright. She will then deal with you both

Lorraine - Yes Miss...come on love let's stand on the line as she said

The two of them stand in the line to wait their turn

Meg - .....Is that correct?

Sasha - Yes, that's correct

Meg - Come with me to the showers, then we will get you fitted with your uniform

Meg and Sasha move off towards the shower

Meg - It says here you pleaded guilty in the end?

Sasha - Yes, that's right

The Recroom

The women are there doing their usual thing as Meg arrives with Sasha

Judy - Hey love, you're back then

Sasha - Yes, I'm back

Marie - Found you guilty then did they?

Sasha - No actually, in the end, I decided to change my plea

Judy - Why did you do that love?

Sasha - Does it matter? The point is I did and here I am

Marie - How long did you get then?

Sasha - 6 years with a nonparole period of three

Marie - Is that all? I would have thrown the key away after what you did to that poor old boy!

Marie lets out one of her cheeky laughs

Judy - You're about as funny as a heart attack Winter!

Marie - Yeah well I suppose you'd know all about that Bryant

Meg - Alright Winter, enough with the inflammatory comments now

Judy - Fancy a game of pool love?

Sasha - No Jude, maybe later

Sasha takes a seat by the tv

Judy sits with her

Judy - You still planning to stay top dog?

Sasha - Of course

Judy - Then I would advise keeping a close eye on Winter. She really wants to be top dog

Sasha - She can try and fight me, I am ready for the challenge!

Marie watches from across the room

Bob is in his office as there is a knock at the door

Bob - Come in

Sue enters

Sue - I have the two new arrivals out there ready to see you, Lorraine Dawson and her daughter Hannah

Bob - Ok, show them in

Sue - In here you two

The two women enter the office and stand in front of Bob

Lorraine looks around

Lorraine - Smart office you have here

Bob - Thank you, Dawson

Lorraine - I don't suppose there is much chance that our cell will be this nice is there?

Bob - You'll find out in a minute won't you!

Bob examines a file

Bob - So, mother and daughter....a double act in crime!

Hannah - Yeah, cool eh?

Bob - And is being in here for the next three years cool too?

Lorraine - We will both be out long before that, I told my Han that we must behave well in here and get early parole

Bob - Admirable.... a shame you both have criminal records now though. I see Lorraine you have been inside before, did you really think it was appropriate for a mother to drag her daughter into crime with her? Is that a good example for a mother to set her daughter? Are you not at all bothered that Hannah now has a record?

Hannah - Actually Sir, mum never dragged me into anything. I wanted to be involved. Mum said I shouldn't but I insisted. I loved the thrill of it

Bob - And you did not think about your future in any of this?

Hannah - Future? Who cares! Life is futile anyway. I realized that early in life

Lorraine - Can we be allowed to share a cell together, please?

Bob - I was going to get to that. I am not sure if it's a good idea to place you both even on the same block, let alone in a cell together

The two women look distressed by this

Hannah - But you must put us together Sir, please! I need to be with my mum

Hannah is distressed and becomes tearful

Hannah - I don't think I can cope here without mum by my side all the time! This is my first time in prison and I do not know how I will cope!

Bob - That should have been a consideration before you committed crimes

Lorraine hugs her daughter and looks at Bob

Lorraine - Please put us both together Sir, I am asking nicely, I am pleading for you to show compassion. I must have my daughter with me. I know what these places are like and I want to look after her, make sure she remains safe in here

Bob sighs

Bob - Well ok, there is a two-bed dorm empty on H Block, I suppose you can both go in there together for now

The two women look happy

Lorraine - Oh thank you so much, Sir!

Bob - But this can change at any time, we will see how it goes for the time being. The other women may not like it if they feel I am giving you both special treatment

Lorraine - Yes thank you, Sir, I appreciate what you say

Bob - One other thing, you do not need to call me Sir. Mr Moran will do

Lorraine - Yes ok, got it! Mr Moran, it is!

Sasha is in her cell, laying on the bed, as Judy arrives in the room

Judy - You left the Recroom quietly love, I didn't even see you go

Sasha - I wasn't in the mood for Are you being Served? tonight

Judy sits beside her

Judy - Why did you change your plea? You were pretty determined to stick to not guilty

Sasha - Honestly? I got scared, really scared. I knew they would convict me and I knew they would come down hard on me for pleading not guilty, so I changed my plea and hoped for some mercy.

Judy - And you got 6 years?

Sasha - Yes, the judge was not in a merciful mood!

Judy - I'm sorry love

Sasha - Don't be, I've been thinking it over a lot...

Sasha pauses a moment to light a cigarette

Sasha - ....That wasn't the only reason I changed my plea to guilty. There is another reason too.....its because deep down inside I feel that I should be taking responsibility for this. The man is dead and I was the one who caused it

Judy - Yes but he...

Sasha cuts her off, seeming slightly irritated

Sasha - Yes, he consented, I know. I've heard that over and over from you, from Martha. Let me ask you something if my car had a fault and I knew it had one and I didn't get it fixed and someone willing got into my car with me. If I then had a crash because of it and they died, should I not take the blame for failing to get the fault fixed just because they got in the car willing?

Judy - That's different love

Sasha - Is it? The fact is I knew Bill wasn't very well that day, I could tell. He wasn't himself, he didn't look well. He asked me a few times to stop the session and let him out of the cage because he felt unwell. I didn't listen to him. I carried on and he died. If I had stopped it maybe he would have been ok

Judy - But you don't know that, if he wasn't well anyway then he would have had a heart attack whether you did anything or not

Sasha - No, he may have been to see a dr in time to prevent it. Instead, he was locked in a cage with me torturing him. He asked to be let out, I ignored it

Judy - He was old, it's not your fault he was sick and had a weak heart

Sasha - Maybe I should have said no to his custom, or said I would only do light stuff with him, instead of full-on BDSM. But no I was too greedy for the money wasn't i. I used to worry about his health and if this was too much for him, but I still did it anyway, so that I could make money. So you see I deserve this sentence Jude, I do

Judy seems quiet, unable to find words to say

Sue shows Lorraine and Hannah into a two-bed dorm

Sue Well this is your cell ladies

They look around miserably

Hannah - It's a dump!

Sue - This is a prison, what can you expect?

Hannah - Something better than this!

Lorraine - I did warn you, love. This is what prison is like. We just have to try and make the best of it now, the sentence won't last forever and soon enough we will both be free again

Sue - I will leave you both to settle in now, please have a look at the rule book I gave you when you are ready

Lorraine - Yes, thanks miss, we will

Sue leaves the room leaving them alone

Hannah looks tearful again

Hannah - Oh mum, I don't like it here. I know you warned me but I wasn't prepared for this

Lorraine comforts her daughter

Lorraine -I know love, but at least we're together. I'll look after you

GATESLAM

PART 2

Exterior shot of Blackmoor in daylight

Vern, Marina, and Ted are in the office

Vern - It's good of you to drop by today Mr Ferguson. Marina and I both wanted to see you to give our support at this difficult time

Ted - Thank you Mr Schofield. I came today to tell you that the funeral will be tomorrow morning, come along if you want to

Vern - I would like to come but I can't really leave the prison I'm afraid

Marina - I will come instead Mr Ferguson, to represent all the staff here

Ted - Thank you

Marina - It is no bother, we will all miss Joan I'm sure

Vern - Will you wish to see Lucy while you are here Ted?

Ted shakes his head

Ted - No, I will not see that murdering little bitch today or any day!

At Wentworth, the women are in the laundry. Hannah and Lorraine are also there with them

Marie - So a mother and daughter in here together, this place really likes to keep it in the family, what with Sue Bailey and her son Lee here as well

Hannah - Mum and I don't want it to cause trouble. I mean really why should it? Sure we are a mother and daughter but why should that matter really?

Lorraine- You just leave the talking to me love

Lorraine addresses the room

Lorraine - Now I don't have a problem with any of you and Hannah and I are not here to cause trouble. We are happy to make friends, but if anyone causes my daughter a problem then god help them, I will come down on them like a ton of bricks. I hope you lot understand me

Sasha - No one is going to harm you or your daughter unless you give them a reason to and you have already said you won't do that so everything will be fine

Lorraine - Good, I am glad to hear it

Marie - Oh I dunno though, little Hannah is a pretty .little thing and you know what happens to pretty little things in places like this

Lorraine - Be careful bitch, I mean it!

Sasha - Just ignore Marie, please. She is a wind-up merchant Lorraine, that's all

Ted is in the Blackmoor staff room as Janice arrives and looks surprised to see him

Janice - Oh Ted, I had no idea you would be in today?

Ted - I thought I'd drop in to tell Vern and Marina about the funeral

Janice - And to see Lucy maybe?

Ted - Oh no, not that!

Janice - I think you should see her, even if it's just for a moment. She keeps asking to see you

Ted - I'm surprised you'd care

Janice - I feel bad for her, she claims she is innocent

Ted - So why does Inspector Grace think she did it?

Janice - Grace has a terrible reputation. I really think you should come and give her a chance to say what she wants to say to you

Ted looks thoughtful

Ted - Ok I will give her a few minutes, but that's all

Janice - I'll take you to see her, come on

They leave the room

Vern and Marina are alone in the office

Vern - You don't really want to go to the funeral do you?

Marina grins

Marina - Of course, I do Verny, I want to see that bitch get buried, and then I want to dance over her grave!

Vern (smiling) - Oh Marina, you really are terrible!

Janice and Ted arrive at Lucy's cell

Lucy is laying on her bed, facing away from them. Apparently staring off into space

Janice - Ferguson, your fathers here to see you

Lucy rushes over, excited

Lucy - Oh father, I am so glad you decided to come!

Ted - I'm only here because Janice managed to convince me to give you a few minutes

Lucy - I didn't kill Aunty Joan

Ted - Grace says that you did

Lucy - Do you know what so-called evidence he came up with? A hair of mine on her blouse, how ridiculous is that. I did live with the woman, it's hardly damning evidence is it now!

Ted - I was told there was more to it than that, you were seen arguing with her and even slapping her

Lucy - Well we argued all the time, you know that

Ted - But you slapped her too!

Lucy - Look father, how can you believe this of me? I am not a killer, I am your little princess remember!

Ted - I never thought you were a criminal but I found out I was wrong about that. It proves you are capable of anything and that I don't know you at all. I don't know my own daughter and what she is capable of, it pains me to say it but its true

Lucy - So you think I did it?

Ted - Yes, there are no other suspects!

Lucy - Do me a favour! There are loads of other suspects, she was hardly popular was she!

Ted - But none of them were charged for it, you were

Lucy - And it's a wretched mistake, Grace is an incompetent fool

Ted - I'm going to go now, I won't be back to see you again

Lucy - Father please, you're making a big mistake!

Ted - Oh and I doubt you care, but the funerals tomorrow. I get to bury my sister, that will be great fun won't it...goodbye now

Ted turns to walk away

Janice - Sorry Lucy, at least you got a chance to talk to him like you wanted

Janice follows off after Ted

Lucy is angry and yells after him

Lucy - STUFF YOU THEN YOU BASTARD! I'M GLAD SHE'S DEAD, EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T KILL HER I'M STILL GLAD, I WISH YOU WERE DEAD TOO, I WISH I HAD KILLED YOU BOTH THEN AT LEAST I'D BE HERE FOR SOMETHING I ACTUALLY DID DO!

Ted is gone

Lucy kicks out at the gate in anger

Lucy - That rotten bastard!

Janice is walking with Ted

Janice - I'm not entirely convinced she did it you know and I am a little surprised you believe it so easily

Ted - Look Jan, the girl is a spoilt, vindictive little bitch. I admit it's my own fault, I made her that way. But the fact is she is a little monster. I think she did it because she hated Joan and never even tried to hide that fact. I wash my hands of her after this, its the final straw

Janice - Oh well, if that's how you feel

Ted - It is, I never wish to see the little killer again

Janice - Richard and I were sorry not to see you for dinner the other night, you were invited

Ted - Yes, I'm sorry about that. I didn't feel up to it, maybe another time though

Janice - Did mother fill you in on our wedding plans?

Ted - Yes she did, they sound lovely

Janice - I can't believe that mother and I are getting on so well, it feels strange and too good to be true. I keep waiting for something to go wrong all over again like usual

Ted looks troubled

Ted - Yeah, look Jan there is something you should know

Janice - Oh yes, what?

Ted pauses, looks very troubled

He finally answers

Ted -I just wanted to say I am very pleased that Eileen and yourself are finally getting on better and I hope it lasts

Janice - Thank you

Ted - And I hope we can still be friends too

Janice - Yes, of course, we had some fun times together Ted, no reason why we can't stay friends

Ted - None at all. I am glad you said that as that's exactly how I feel too
