Judy - Ok ladies, this is Martha, she's new here

Spider smirks and looks Martha up and down

Spider - New what? New wimp!....

Judy - Oh why don't you shut up Simpson!

Pixie -Yes, why must you be so awfully mean all the time Rose?

Spider - I'm just stating a fact that's all. Martha here looks like a real wimp and the women will make mincemeat of her!

Judy - Just ignore her love, she was born a bitch. Come on let's get a meal and sit down

Martha - I really don't think I can get anything tonight Judy!

Judy - Well you should love

Spider - Yes, build up your strength Martha love, you're gonna need it for when this lot comes for you!

Bob has the staff gathered around

Bob - I have important news for you all. Mrs Raymond was here earlier

Janice - Yes, well whenever my mother is around it can only mean one thing, bad news!

Bob- Yes, well I wouldn't exactly say that this is good news, it's true to say. In fact, I am bloody amazed she managed to pull it off...the news is that the death penalty will be coming back to Melbourne

The staff look stunned but Vera smirks

Vera - Good work! I have always said they should bring it back. I wish Mrs Raymond was still here now so that I could congratulate her

Janice - Nothing surprises me about this, I knew mother had a stunt like this up her sleeve

Bob - Presumably this penalty will only apply to murderers and Eileen expressed her strong desire for Mrs Clements to receive this penalty

Vera looks ever more delighted

Vera - Excellent! That will teach Clements a real lesson!

The Rec room

The room is quite empty as Judy and Martha arrive. Only Spider and Madge there

Judy - Hey, where the hell is everyone tonight?

Spider- None of em wanna come in here after what happened here do they. Pack of wimps!

Madge - Still this suits Spid and me fine, we can talk business in peace that way

Judy gives them both a look

Judy - Yeah, I bet

Judy turns to Martha

Judy - This room is usually much busier than this love, but we had an incident here

Martha - What sort of incident?

Judy - Well, you don't really need to know about that. In fact its probably best if you don't know

Spider - Oh gee, she has a right to know Bryant....a madwoman killed three people in here with a gun!

Martha - Oh how terrible! This place sounds atrocious and here I am stuck here for five years!

Madge - It gets easier after the first two or three years, love!

Judy - Will you be ok here by yourself for a while Martha? I need to go and talk to a friend

Martha - Yes of course I'll be ok. You've been so helpful tonight Judy, I can't expect you to look after me all the time

Judy looks at Spider and Madge

Judy - I'm warning you two if I hear of you giving Martha a hard time while I'm gone there will be hell to play

Judy leaves the room leaving Martha alone with Spider and Madge

Spider -Why don't you take a seat love, make yourself at home

Bea is in her cell, laying on the bed looking at the ceiling as Judy arrives in the cell

Judy - There you are love, I wondered why you aren't down in the Rec room?

Bea - I don't know if I can face going in that room ever again after what happened

Judy - Oh that's silly love, you have to go in there sometime

Martha sits quietly as Spider and Madge walk over and sit on either side of her

Madge- got anything on you?

Pixie is in her cell as Bea and Judy arrive

Judy - Bea and I would like to invite you along to the Rec Room with us love

Pixie (horrified) - Oh good heavens no, I couldn't go in there after....after...well you know!

Bea - Yes love we know, and I felt the same way you do, but Jude made me realize its silly. We have to face it sometime

Pixie - Oh golly no! I'm never stepping foot in there again

Bea smiles and walks across the room

Bea - Yes you are love, even if Jude and I have to drag you there kicking and screaming...right Jude!

Judy rolls her sleeves up and marches across the room in a menacing fashion

Judy - Yeah right Bea

Judy gives Pixie a stern look

Judy - Well then Miss Mason, what's it to be? Do you come quietly or do Bea and I have to drag you there?

Pixie - Oh you are awful, both of you!

Back in the Rec room, Spider and Madge sit staring at Martha

Martha begins to look irritated

Martha - Look I don't know why you're both sitting looking at me like that. Frankly, I'd prefer it if you left me alone

Spider - Oh gee hear that Madge! The lady would prefer it if we left her alone!

Madge - Yes, it appears we are cramping her style!

Spider gets into Martha's face

Spider - She thinks she is a cut above us does she?

They pin Martha down in her chair

Spider sneers

Spider and Madge leave, both giggling as they go

A car pulls onto the Battersby's driveway and Des gets out the drivers side

His new woman Penelope gets out the front passenger side

Penelope - I feel bad about doing this Des

Des - Rubbish, nothing to feel bad about. Shan has been a bitch for years and she deserves this. This is my home and we should be living here together

Des puts his key in the lock and opens the door, he marches in

The house is dark and empty

Des - She ain't ere by the looks of it

Penelope - Maybe she's in bed?

Des shakes his head with a chuckle

Des - In bed? No way! Shan never goes to bed before at least midnight at the earliest

Des - I don't care where she is! We will be patient for a while and wait for her, but if she isn't back soon we will pack her bags for her. In the meantime, let's bring our suitcases in from the car!

Back in the Rec room Bea and Pixie look stunned

Bea - Oh love, you poor thing.

Pixie - Yeah it's rotten! You only did what you had to, to protect yourself from those rotten scoundrels. You don't deserve to be here

Judy - That's what I think too. This is a lousy miscarriage of justice

Martha - I don't see what can be done about it. All I can do is serve my sentence

Bea - I wouldn't bet on it, you have a right to appeal this and I think you should

Bea - And there were mitigating circumstances

Martha - Oh I don't know. Maybe I should just serve my sentence quietly without a fuss, five years isn't forever

Judy - Yeah well it's five years too long in my opinion

They all roar with laughter

Vera, Janice, and Toni are there

Vera - So in my opinion its the best thing Eileen has done so far getting back the death penalty

Toni - Well I think it's horrible, wicked and horrible

Vera - It is super! Hopefully, Clements will be the first to get the electric chair!

Toni - I hope not, I don't want Sandra killed like that, it's wrong for any of us to play god like this. She will serve life and that's the right punishment in my eyes

Vera sighs
