Johnson screams out as Matt grabs him through the bars and pulls him up against them
Johnson - HELP ME, SOMEONE!
Matt - QUIET!
Matt begins to slash him with the knife
Johnson screams out as Matt slashes him across the face
Suddenly Matt is dragged off....by Vern
Vern - I DON'T KNOW HOW THE HELL YOU GOT OUT OF YOUR CELL SCUM!
Matt - Ask Officer Ferguson about that! She came to my cell for some fun and I knocked the silly bitch out!
Vern - RUBBISH!
Matt - No truth! I don't wish to appear crude but she couldn't wait to get her knickers off for me
Vern opens the door to the box next to Johnson's
Vern - GET YOUR BUTT IN THERE!
Vern throws Matt in the box and locks him in
Vern - It will stay here tonight until we decide on further punishment in the morning
Johnson - -Please Sir, I am bleeding. I need medical attention
Vern - Rubbish, it has a few cuts that is all! It will be fine
Vern marches off
Matt - Hey Johnson, fancy that eh, us two neighbours
Johnson - You psycho! You'll pay for that!
Matt - You can't get me from in there can ya
Johnson - Well I'll get out and then I'll get ya
Matt - That's if I don't get you first!
Matt chuckles
Matt - You screamed like a baby just now! Little baby boy Billy Johnson!
Billy - Shut up Brewer!
Lucy is coming around in the cell as Vern arrives
Vern - Are you ok?
Lucy - Yeah.....Brewer attacked me and knocked me out
Vern - I think we need to talk, Officer Ferguson
Exterior shot of Kath and Jim's
The phone is ringing
Kath answers
Kath - Hello?
Silence
Kath - Hello?
Heavy breathing
Kath -Who is this?
A voice talks in a creepy whisper - Kath...hello Kath!
Kath - Is that you Mark?
Voice - I've been watching you, Kath!
Kath - Leave me alone or I'll.....
Voice - You'll what? Set Jim on me?
Kath - Yes if I have to I will!
Voice - I'm really scared, Kath!
Kath - You should be, Jim will knock your block off
The person laughs
Voice - You need to try harder than that to scare me Kath!......btw I meant to say, you look real pretty Kath. I especially like that night dress you wear!
Kath - You bloody creep, stop this, or I'll call the police you got it!
Voice - How are little Scott and Charlotte? Both well I hope....be horrible if anything happened to them wouldn't it
Kath - You sick bastard! I will call the police, I mean it you bastard!
Voice - See you soon Kath!
The line goes dead
Kath slams the phone down looking freaked out
Jim calls out from the other room
Jim - Who was that love?
Kath - I think it was that creep next door again
Vern and Lucy are in the staff room where he hands her a coffee
Vern - You have some explaining to do. Brewer was attacking Johnson when I got there, had I not decided to do a spot check we may well have had a corpse on our hands
Lucy - He faked a seizure, I went into his cell to help him and he attacked me
Vern - He says you went to his cell for some fun?
Lucy - Oh what rubbish, I wouldn't be that foolish!
Vern - I don't like being lied to ya know
Advertisement
Lucy - I'm not lying it's the truth I swear. He faked a seizure and I went in to see if he was ok and that's all there is to it
Vern - Well even if it is, you were still foolish going in alone. You should have come for backup. A prisoner could be dead now if I hadn't arrived when I did
Lucy - Yes, I realize that. Are you going to report it?
Vern - I really should you know...but I won't this time. I'll deal with that scum Brewer without involving the governor
Lucy - Oh Mr Schofield thanks
Vern - But I will be keeping an eye on you. Any more mess-ups like the one tonight and I won't be so lenient
Lucy nods her head
Lucy - Yes I understand
Vern - And you owe me a favour too. I'll let you know when I want it
Lucy - What sort of favour?
Vern - Like I say I'll let you know when it's time
Lucy looks unnerved
Exterior shot of Blackmoor in daylight
Matt sits in his box as Lucy arrives at the bars
Matt - G'day gorgeous! Come to give me a kiss ave ya!
Lucy leans in close to whisper
Lucy - Listen to me you bastard, that was a real bad move last night. We could have had a nice thing going until you did that
Matt - I bet that bastard Schofield reported you right?
Lucy - Wrong, not this time
Matt - No harm done then!
Lucy - It's the last time I ever trust you, you won't get a chance to do that again....and you will regret doing that to me. I'll make sure you pay!
Matt (sarcastic) - Oh I'm real scared little girl!
Lucy - You should be. Don't underestimate me, not ever!
Matt - When can I expect your revenge then?
Lucy - I'll surprise you
Lucy leaves
Matt watches her go with a laugh
Billy - What did she want?
Matt - None of your business baby Billy!
Billy - She looked pretty angry!
Matt - How's the face this morning? Sore is it?
Billy - Bastard!
Matt chuckles
Joan is in her office with Nola
Nola - They will cause you problems...Vern, Meg, Marina and Lucy, all of them
Joan - Yes I know...
Nola - What will you do about them?
Joan - Deal with them as and when I have to, just like I dealt with Beacham.....and soon Janice will help me
Nola - Good luck getting Eileen to agree to Janice's transfer here, she asked to come here and Eileen sent her to Wentworth to torment her
Joan - Yes well Ted is head of the department and I can get him to make her agree to the transfer
Nola - I'm sure you can but you still have not told me how you will deal with the four of them
Joan narrows her eyes at Nola in anger
Joan - That's because it's really none of your business McKenzie!
Nola - I only want to help, like in the old days
Joan - How nice of you
Nola - Here's a word of warning;.....watch Beacham too. She may be a prisoner here but she'll still be out to get you now
Joan - I can handle her, I can handle the lot of them
Nola gives a mischievous grin
Nola - That's what you thought about Rita Connors too and look how she got the better of you!
Joan - Shut up McKenzie!
Nola chuckles

Joan - I said shut up! Stop laughing McKenzie!
There is a knock at the office door
Joan - Come in
Vern enters and looks around the office looking confused
Joan - Are you looking for anything in particular Mr Schofield?
Vern - Oh I'm sorry, I thought you had someone else in here with you
Joan - Well as you can see there is no one
Vern - Yes, I could have sworn I heard you talking to someone
Joan shakes her head
Joan - No, no one. As you can see I am here all alone
Vern - Yes, I can see...
Joan - Anything to report this morning? Any problems? Anything I need to know about?
Vern hesitates before answering
Vern - No Miss Ferguson, nothing at all
Exterior shot of the charity shop Vicki works in
Sandra and Toni enter carrying some black bags
Vicki is on the shop floor tidying and spots them, she looks surprised
Vicki - Mrs Clements...Miss Williams...Hi!
Sandra - Hello McPherson...we've come to drop off some donations
Vicki - Ok leave them here, I'll take them out the back for you
Sandra - thank you
Toni - How are you settling in here Vicki?
Vicki shrugs
Vicki - Oh ok I guess
Sandra looks impatient
Sandra - Come on Toni, we didn't stop here to talk to McPherson!
Toni - I just want to see how she's getting on that's all
Sandra - So ask her another time, it's our day off and we have plans remember
Toni sighs
Toni - Yes, how could I forget?
Toni looks sadly at the bags with her old clothes in
Toni - I really don't want to get rid of some of this stuff
Sandra - Nonsense, you will have a whole new wardrobe in no time!
Toni - Have a good day McPherson, see you later
Vicki - Yes see you miss
Sandra practically drags Toni out
Vicki watches them go with a curious shrug
Bob is in his office with Officer Bailey
Bob - We have a new arrival coming in from Ingleside Sue, She has been here before and I wanted to talk to you about her because I believe you worked here when she was here before
Bailey - Who is it Mr Moran?
Bob - Sandra Mason
Bailey - Ah Pixie, yes I remember Pixie! It was awful what happened to her
Bob - Ingleside feels she is finally ready for return to mainstream prison after a number of years at Ingleside....what I wanted to ask you is was there anyone here she was particularly close to? Anyone who could help her settle back in?
Bailey - Yes, Bryant would be the one to help with that. She was always very close to Mason
Pixie is in the reception with Vera
Vera - You are Sandra Louise Mason, is that correct?
Pixie - If you say so
Vera - IS THAT CORRECT? YES OR NO?
Pixie - As I said, if you say so
Vera - I want to hear it from you, now is that correct?
Pixie - Well if you say it is then it must be mustn't it
Vera - Are you trying to be smart Mason? I can throw you in solitary for that!
Pixie starts to cry
Pixie - No honestly I am not trying to be smart, please don't throw me in solitary, I hate it there. I am so frightened there!
Vera - Then why won't you answer a simple question?
Pixie - I won't answer because I don't know the answer. I don't know who I am or where I am
Vera rolls her eyes
Vera - Not another one with amnesia!
Pixie - Yes amnesia...yes that's right I have amnesia!
Vera - That trick won't work on me. I'll warn you right now
Bailey arrives
Bailey - Hello Pixie, we have been expecting you. How are you keeping?
Pixie looks at her blankly
Pixie - I'm sorry but do I know you?
Bailey - I'm officer Bailey, I was here last time you were here remember?
Pixie shakes her head
Pixie- No I'm sorry, I really don't remember you at all
Bailey - Well it's been a long time, hardly surprising I suppose
Vera - The stupid girl is making out she has amnesia Sue
Colleen and Geoff are sitting with Eileen in her office
Eileen - So what can I do for you both?
Geoff - It's about my desk job
Eileen - Ah yes, I felt that would be most appropriate for you Mr Carlton
Geoff - Well I hate it, I prefer to be where the action is
Eileen - Well I'm sorry but you do have a prosthetic leg...
Colleen - Having a prosthetic leg does not mean Geoff is useless
Eileen - No one is saying it does, it's just best to be safe that's all!
Geoff - I want to ask you please reconsider Mrs Raymond. There is so much more I have to offer than sitting doing paperwork all-day
Eileen - I'm sorry Mr Carlton but my mind is made up!
Colleen looks angry
Colleen - You won't even consider giving Geoff a chance?
Eileen - No I won't take a risk!
Colleen - Geoff has given years to the service, he deserves better than this! He is a damn fine officer
Eileen - Its either a desk job or nothing at all
Geoff - Then it will have to be nothing, I resign as of now
Eileen - Suit yourself.....
Colleen - I can't believe you are treating Geoff like this
Eileen - What you believe really doesn't interest me in the slightest
Colleen - Ooh you're a lousy old bitch!
Eileen - Resorting to name-calling now? How classy!
Geoff - Come on love, we're wasting our time here
Geoff stands up to go but Colleen stays in her seat
Colleen - You're a disgrace do you know that! You should do us all a favour and resign!
Eileen - Careful Mrs Powell, I can easily fire you if I want to
Colleen - Oh yeah? And how will you do that when I am quitting as of now?
Geoff - You don't have to quit, love
Colleen stands up
Colleen - Yes I do, after the way she's treated you
Eileen - Well don't slam the door on the way out will you!
Colleen - One day someone's going to give you such a smack in the mouth
Eileen - Are they really?
Colleen - Yes, just like this
Colleen hits Eileen in the face hard and sends her flying
Eileen clutches her cheek in shock
Eileen - YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT POWELL!
Colleen smirks
Colleen - And what will you do, fire me? I already quit remember. Come on Geoff, let's go
They leave
Judy is working in the garden
Bailey walks out into the grounds with Pixie
Bailey -Come and say hello to Judy, you'll be pleased to see her and she will be pleased to see you too I imagine
Pixie - Judy?
Bailey - Yes, your old friend
They arrive in front of Judy
Bailey - Bryant you may stop work for a minute, there is someone I want you to see
Judy looks up and lays eyes on Pixie
She jumps up with delight and hugs her
Judy - G'day love! Oh, it's so good to see ya! It's been a long time
Pixie stands unresponsive
Judy - So how are ya love? Oh, I've missed ya!
Pixie - Who are you?
Judy looks surprised
Judy - It's me love, Jude...you're old mate remember?
Pixie shakes her head
Pixie - I've never met you before
Judy looks distressed
Judy - But Pixie love, you must remember me. We were very close friends
Pixie - No I'm sorry, you must have me confused with someone else
Judy - What about Myra? Do you remember Myra?
Pixie - No sorry
Judy - Bobbie, you remember Bobbie?....and dear Cass?
Pixie shakes her head
Judy - What's the matter with her damn it? Why can't she remember?
Bailey - Come over here Bryant
Bailey and Judy walk up the garden a bit
Bailey - It seems Pixie has amnesia, she can't remember anything
Judy - Oh hell no
Bailey - Just be patient with her. You're the only inmate here who knew her back then. well apart from Smith anyway
Judy - Yeah and Sonia!
Bailey - Neither of those two would be suitable to help Mason right now, you're the best one to help her...she needs your help even if she can't remember you
Judy nods her head
Judy - Of course, I'll help her all I can
They both walk back to Pixie who is stood admiring the garden
Pixie - Such a beautiful garden, just like my old garden at home
Judy - Maybe you could come out here and help me with it if you like? We could ask Mr Moran if you can come out here, would you like that?
Pixie smiles sweetly
Pixie - Oh yes, I'd like that very much!
Colleen and Geoff are sitting in their car
Geoff - You shouldn't have quit too love, now we're both out of a job
Colleen - I wanted to, I couldn't work thereafter the way she treated you
Geoff - But it was my problem, shouldn't have involved you
Colleen - No truth be told my heart wasn't really in it anyway. As soon as I stepped in there and saw Joan and Marina again I knew I didn't want to be back there. My heart is just not in it anymore, I'm tired of it. Tired of Ferguson and Donovan and dealing with scum
Geoff - But what will you do now? You aren't the type to sit around all-day
Colleen - Honestly? I want to go traveling again
Geoff looks surprised
Geoff - Really? You never said anything about this before
Colleen - Well I'm saying it now. I was happy when I was traveling, seeing the world, meeting different people. It was an adventure, it was exciting. Ever since I've been back here I haven't really been happy, I feel trapped. I feel like a prisoner myself
Geoff - I had no idea you felt so strongly
Colleen -Well I do, I would be happy if I never stepped foot inside a prison again. Let the likes of Donovan and Ferguson get on with it. I only really went back for your sake and now that you've quit there is no need to stay...
Geoff - What about Meg? She wanted us to help her
Colleen - Of course, I'm sorry to let Meg down but I have to look after my own needs and my own happiness, I can't stay somewhere I don't want to be just to please Meg...anyway, Raymond won't have me back now after I hit her
Geoff can't resist a smile
Geoff - I was tempted to cheer when you did that
They both laugh
Colleen - The only question now is are you willing to come traveling with me?
Geoff looks thoughtful for a moment then smiles
Geoff - Yes why not, I'd love to Col. It's like you say, it will be an adventure
Colleen - let's leave tonight
Geoff - That soon?
Colleen - Yes, why put it off any longer? I can't wait to get off and see some more of the world
Geoff - Where do you want to go first?
Colleen - I think south America!...we'll start with Venezuela, I want to see Angel Falls!
They kiss
GATESLAM
PART 2
Kath and Jim are standing in their hallway with the babies in their prams. They are putting their jackets on
Kath - I'm not sure about this, I feel he is out there watching me
Jim - He is just trying to intimidate you, don't let him eh? If you let him it means he gets what he wants and he wins
Kath smiles
Kath - Yes you're right
Jim - Come on love, this walk in the park will do us both good before I have to go to work
Kath opens the front door and stops in her tracks with a look of shock on her face
Kath - Oh no I can't believe it!
Jim arrives and looks
Someone has emptied a load of rubbish over their doorstep and front garden, they have also ruined Kath's flowerbeds. Plants pulled out and torn to pieces
Kath - This has to be those mongrels next door
Jim - We don't know its then love
Kath - No? Just like we don't know it's Mark behind the calls? Of course, it's damn well them, who else would it be?
Sonia arrives at her cell and finds a note. It says
The laundry
Bea is on the press as an angry Sonia enters and storms over. She thrusts the note in Bea's face
Sonia - Very funny Smith! Leaving silly notes for me! Well, it will take more than stupid schoolgirl stuff like this to scare me you got it?
Bea - Oh shut up Stevens, as much as I'd like to take the credit for this I know nothing about it
Sonia - You expect me to believe that? I know you want to get at me for my part in Josie's death
Bea - True I do, but I have something better in mind than leaving silly notes for you
Sonia - I'm sure you do but you'd still enjoy tormenting me first. Well I'm warning you, just stop it now
Bea - I already told you I know nothing about the note
Sonia - And I told you I don't believe you
Bea - Are you going to do any work today Stevens?
Sonia storms over to the folding table
Bea stands looking intrigued

Saga of the Jewels VOLUME ONE COMPLETE
Prefer to listen to rather than read Saga of the Jewels? I'm also releasing it as a free audibook serial podcast on iTunes here! Epic YA JRPG-influenced GameLit progression ensemble-cast steampunk romance fantasy! When Ryn’s hometown is destroyed, will he be able to gather together the twelve Primeval Jewels in order to defeat the evil Emperor and save the world of Mid? A fan novelization of an amazing Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist, that currently releases at least one chapter a month. Epic in that this will be very long. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint!” (-Kandaj) YA in that this should be enjoyable to~13-year-olds and upwards. Some gore, some swearing, some sex, but nothing more than PG-13. JRPG-influenced / GameLit in that it uses lots of JRPG tropes, particularly from Final Fantasy. I’ve read a lot of fan Final Fantasy novelisations and you can basically think of this as a fan novelisation of its own Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist as a game... Progression in that the characters level up over time (though not with visible litrpg stat boxes). They grow in ability through training and experience, gain new skills, individually and as a party (think Chrono Trigger) and spend time discussing and stratgeising about how to defeat their opponents. Main protagonist from book three would definitely be able to defeat himself from book one! Ensemble-cast because we've got quite the roster of misfits here. The first volume is all from the main protagonist's POV, but it starts dancing between his and different POVs thereafter. Steampunk in that we’ve also got airships, steam trains, pistols and ambiguous ‘amber bars’ that function a bit like artificial lights… Romance in that there is lots of shipping here, a few love triangles, and you may be kept guessing as to who will actually end up together... Fantasy in that we’re in a vaguely pre-modern setting. We’ve got swords, magic, dragons, dungeons, monsters, all that good stuff. * "This story captures that Final Fantasy quality perfectly. Kiddy but also grim. The characters are great... Severely underrated and needs more favorites/follows. I look forward to seeing how this story will unfold." -Gilgamesh9999 "Starting at the end and jumping backwards is not a writing style seen every day. I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical at first, but you've executed a fairly crazy idea very skillfully so far. Overall, a strong start to what could be a very strong story." -RandomFF.netUser "You definitely have my interest piqued. It'll be interesting to see where the story goes... It definitely has an 'old school Final Fantasy' type feel to it, which I appreciate...Good job! I am glad you are going into more details about the story you laid out in the prologue...of course the big burning question is 'You know they lose in the the first chapter, so how will they end up winning?' That of course, is the story you're writing...so we'll see how it goes! #Following." -KyleQuicksilver (quotes are from reviews on other sites) * If you enjoy it, don’t forget to boost Saga of the Jewels on topwebfiction.com! Homeland
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER -- In Cory Doctorow’s wildly successful Little Brother, young Marcus Yallow was arbitrarily detained and brutalized by the government in the wake of a terrorist attack on San Francisco—an experience that led him to become a leader of the whole movement of technologically clued-in teenagers, fighting back against the tyrannical security state.A few years later, California's economy collapses, but Marcus’s hacktivist past lands him a job as webmaster for a crusading politician who promises reform. Soon his former nemesis Masha emerges from the political underground to gift him with a thumbdrive containing a Wikileaks-style cable-dump of hard evidence of corporate and governmental perfidy. It’s incendiary stuff—and if Masha goes missing, Marcus is supposed to release it to the world. Then Marcus sees Masha being kidnapped by the same government agents who detained and tortured Marcus years earlier.Marcus can leak the archive Masha gave him—but he can’t admit to being the leaker, because that will cost his employer the election. He’s surrounded by friends who remember what he did a few years ago and regard him as a hacker hero. He can’t even attend a demonstration without being dragged onstage and handed a mike. He’s not at all sure that just dumping the archive onto the Internet, before he’s gone through its millions of words, is the right thing to do.Meanwhile, people are beginning to shadow him, people who look like they’re used to inflicting pain until they get the answers they want. Fast-moving, passionate, and as current as next week, Homeland is every bit the equal of Little Brother—a paean to activism, to courage, to the drive to make the world a better place.
