Beth steps out of the car
Beth - What happened?
Len - You know what bloody happened Mrs Abbott! You crashed your husband's car into mine
Beth - Oh my, however, did that happen?
Brian - I think I better get you inside love
Brian starts to guide Beth away as Len follows them
Len(angry) - Look I don't know what sort of game she's playing trying to pretend she doesn't know what she did but I expect you to take responsibility for this and pay the damages
Brian - We will Len. I just think its better if we discuss this in the morning when we're all calmer eh
Brian leads Beth inside
Kath opens the door again
Kath (angry) - You have some nerve coming here asking for my help Latham! We were hardly friends were we!
Chrissie - Look Kath I know and I'm bleeding sorry for being such a bitch in the past, but please I need your help, I'm begging you
Kath closes the door again and looks at Chrissie
Kath - You know if the police find out you're here I'm at risk of going back to prison too, don't you? But I don't suppose that would matter to someone as selfish as you
Chrissie - Look I know but come on who is going to think to check here? No one knows I have this address and they are hardly going to even consider looking here. It's like you said we were never friends. And I know Fletch isn't here, I saw him leave earlier so if you think about it this is the perfect place for me to hideout
Kath - How exactly did you get hold of this address anyway?
Chrissie - That neighbor of yours, Shanice is it? She gave it to me
Kath (angry) - That'll be right. That bitch would do anything to cause trouble for me and Jim
Chrissie - So can I stay or not?
Kath - You can stay for two nights and that's it. Jim is back Sunday night and you need to be gone by then
Chrissie nods her head
Chrissie - I will be
Beth is sitting at the kitchen table as Brian brings her a hot drink
Brian - Maybe now you'll finally take this more seriously, accept that you need help
Beth - But no one was hurt, love
Brian- Only by sheer luck, they easily could have been and you know it....and now we'll have Len on our backs for money
Beth chuckles
Beth- Well that's not an issue either is it! We're both very solvent after all!
Brian looks exasperated
Brian - You need to stop treating this like a joke and see a dr about it. We've left it long enough now
Beth - Ok so I'll make an appointment first thing Monday morning how does that sound? Let's get the weekend out of the way and concentrate on our special day tomorrow and then I'll get it sorted on Monday
Brian - You promise? Because I'm not going to back down this time
Beth - Yes love I promise
Beth looks at the clock
Beth - Oh good heavens, look at the time! It's nearly midnight. We must get some sleep now we have so much to get ready for tomorrow!
Beth gets up and kisses Brian on the cheek
Beth - Goodnight love!
Beth leaves the troubled looking Brian alone in the kitchen
Exterior shot of Wentworth in daytime
Inside Cheryl and Peta are sitting together in the dining room
Cheryl - Mrs Morris probably isn't in today but I think Lisa is so we'll ask if we can see her after breakfast
Advertisement
Peta nods her head
Kelly and Louise are sitting at another table looking over
Kelly - I don't buy her change of heart. One minute she wants to take me on and the next she suddenly wants no more trouble
Louise - I wouldn't be surprised if they are plotting something together
Kelly- Neither would i
Sandra and Leanne are sitting together. Leanne yawns
Sandra - You look a wreck love
Leanne - I feel one too. I couldn't get a wink of sleep last night. I just lay there for hours, stuff going round and round in my head
Sandra - Why don't you try and get your head down for a few hours today love?
Leanne - Won't the screws mind?
Sandra shakes her head
Sandra - It's the weekend, there is no work or anything. We pretty much just sit around all weekend so you may as well use the time to try and sleep, you look like you need it
Leanne yawns again
Leanne - Yes I'll try and sleep
Kath is having breakfast as Chrissie joins her
Kath - There's toast and tea in the pot if you need it
Kath gets up to leave the table
Chrissie - Kath wait, please don't rush off, can't we talk for a bit?
Kath - Talk about what?
Chrissie - I am grateful you're doing this you know
Kath - So you should be too
Chrissie - Look I'm sorry I was such a bitch in the past ok
Kath - Sure, if you say so
Chrissie - I do and I'd like it if you could believe me. I want to make my peace with you
Kath - Why does it matter so much now? Once you leave here I don't plan on seeing you again
Chrissie - All the more reason to part on good terms now
Kath - Again I must ask you why is this so important to you Latham?
Chrissie - I don't know why it just is ok....look I know I've been a bitch to a lot of people and hurt a lot of people, don't i. I feel bad for the damage I've caused. I just want you to know I'm not like Roo or Margo or Marie Winter
Kath - Really?
Chrissie - Yeah really. I'm just a stupid cow who doesn't think before she does things. I don't set out to cause trouble or get a thrill out of it as they do and I often regret things later even if I don't always show it
Kath looks at Chrissie for a second, Chrissie attempts a smile
Kath - I need to check on Scott
Kath leaves Chrissie alone at the table
With a sigh, Chrissie pours herself some tea
The rec room
Cheryl and Peta are talking to Pat Slattery
Cheryl - Are the governor or Ms Hollands in today please Mrs Slattery?
Pat - They are both in for a few hours yes Gibson
Cheryl looks pleased
Cheryl - That's great, I wasn't sure if they would be in or not with it being Saturday
Pat - Yes but neither is staying in for long, only until lunchtime so if you want to see them my advice would be to make sure it's important Gibson because I don't think they will appreciate having their time wasted
Beth and Brian are examining their car which barely looks damaged
Beth - Well it could have been a lot worse
Brian - Yes for us perhaps, but I think Len's car bore the brunt of it and he wasn't very happy about it
Advertisement
Beth - You don't need to remind me, love, I was awake by then I do remember how angry he was
Brian - Of course, love, I'm sorry
Beth - Come on we need to get to the shops now, I still need to get a few little bits and bobs for tonight!
They get in the car
Len is in his driveway looking at his car, it is very badly damaged and he looks annoyed
Brian can be seen pulling out of his driveway
Len runs up the drive towards them
Len - HEY MR ABBOTT!.....WAIT I NEED A WORD ABOUT MY CAR!
Brian and Beth drive away
Cheryl and Peta are with Meg in her office
Meg - I'm not in for long today ladies so please make this quick
Cheryl turns to Peta
Cheryl - Tell Mrs Morris what you told me, love...
Chrissie is washing up as Kath arrives
Kath - You don't have to do that for me
Chrissie - I want to. You're doing me a big favour, the least I can do is help out around the house a bit....tell ya what why don't you sit down and relax and I'll pour you a cup of tea. I brewed a fresh pot while you were looking after Scott
Chrissie pours a cup
Chrissie - How about that eh? Do you take sugar?
Kath chuckles
Kath - Laying it on a bit thick aren't you Latham?
Chrissie - Laying what on a bit thick?
Kath - This reformed character act. Suddenly the selfish Chrissie is full of concern and kind thoughts for others
Chrissie - It's no act
Kath sits down
Kath - I take two sugars
Chrissie - here ya go then, tea and two sugars
Kath takes a packet of cigarettes out of her pocket
Kath - I suppose you'll be wanting one of these?
Chrissie - Oh yes please, you're a bleeding lifesaver! I had a pack on me when I escaped but of course, they didn't last me long
Kath holds out the pack and Chrissie takes one
Kath - Around midday I have a visitor coming so you will have to hide out in the bedroom out of sight for a few hours. I'll try and get rid of her as quickly as I can
Chrissie - Yeah sure
Back with Meg, Cheryl, and Peta
Peta - So Cheryl has finally made me see sense. Trying to be like Rita and trying to avenge her death, it's not me, and I'm better off getting out of here and returning to uni
Meg - Well I'm glad you see sense at last Middleton
Cheryl - Yes well I also wanted to say maybe Peta could be transferred to Barnehurst for the rest of her sentence? I want to keep her out of trouble and see that she gets parole at the earliest possible opportunity
Meg - Ah well I'm afraid there is a problem ladies.....I'm afraid to say your previous behaviour is all down on record Peta. All the fights and attacks on others. You doused Morgan with petrol as well as slashed her face. These are quite serious charges and will affect your parole I'm afraid
Peta - I was worried you would say that
Meg - Yes but keeping out of trouble from now on will help you a lot believe me
Cheryl - Is it not possible that we can persuade the parole board that Peta wasn't thinking straight when she did those things? She was traumatized by her sister's death but now she has seen the errors of her ways and wants to keep out of trouble and return to uni?
Meg - Possibly, its always hard to know which way the parole board will go really
Cheryl - I think Peta should have a chat with Lisa if she's here
Meg - Yes that can be arranged
Beth and Brian are in a supermarket when they bump into Toni
Beth - Oh hi love!
Toni (surprised) - Hey fancy seeing you here!
Beth turns to Brian
Beth - This is Toni love, the nice young lady I was telling you about remember? I met her at the bus stop and she was late for her first day in a new job the poor young thing!
Brian - Oh yes of course, and you ended up having a nice long chat didn't you?
Toni - Yes we did....you must be Brian? Beth told me all about you
Brian(jokey manner) - She told you what a mongrel I am did she?
They all chuckle
Toni - Oh yeah, she told me she had 40 years of sheer misery with you and couldn't wait for the divorce!
They chuckle again
Toni - No she told me about your anniversary today and I'd like to say congratulations to you both, I truly admire how you have stayed together so long
Beth - Thanks love....see Brian I told you what a nice young lady she is. Why don't you come tonight love? You're more than welcome
Toni looks surprised and awkward. Brian looks a bit surprised too
Toni - But you hardly know me? It wouldn't feel right for me to be there among your family and people you have known for years and years
Beth - Rubbish! Brian and I like to make new friends don't we love?
Brian - Yes of course
Beth - We'd love you to join us
Toni looks touched
Toni - Thank you, Beth, that's very kind and I'd love to come
Cheryl and Peta are with Lisa
Lisa - I'm only in until lunchtime today I'm afraid
Cheryl - That's ok, we shouldn't take up too much of your time
Lisa - What is it I can help with?
Cheryl - Peta needs some counseling to help her deal with her sister's death
Lisa nods her head
Cheryl - She also needs some help with convincing the authorities that she wasn't thinking straight when she was behaving violently. Releasing her as soon as possible is the best thing they can do for her rehabilitation
Lisa - I see...well I will need to talk to Peta alone for a while Cheryl
Cheryl - Yes I realize that
Cheryl stands up and addresses Peta
Cheryl - Open up to Lisa won't you, she can help you
Peta nods
Peta - I will
Cheryl leaves them alone
Lisa smiles at Peta
Lisa - Looks like you have a good friend there doesn't it
Peta - Yes, Cheryl has been great with me
Lisa - It's good to have friends who care, we all need that
Peta - I've just got myself into such a mess and I need to try and fix all this if i can. I need to get out and go back to uni, make my adoptive parents proud
Lisa - And I will help as much as I can, I can promise you that
Beth and Brian pull back into their driveway and get out. They open the boot and begin to take out shopping
Beth - You didn't mind me inviting Toni did you, dear?
Brian - No not at all, I agree with you, she seems like a very nice young lady
Beth - I get the feeling she is a little lonely too you know....maybe she could be a match for our Ben
Brian - Now love, don't start with the matchmaking again for heaven's sake
Beth has a mischievous grin on her face
Beth - Well it's time our son settled down and found himself a nice bride, I think someone like Toni is ideal for him
Brian shakes his head with amusement
Brian - You are a devil love!
Brian closes the boot and they begin to make their way inside as Len rushes up
Len - Wait for a second Mr Abbott! I tried calling you earlier but you can't have heard me! Either that or you ignored me!
Beth chuckles
Beth -We ignored you dear on account of the fact we were in a rush! Very busy you see, so much to arrange for tonight.
Len - Yes well you needn't think you can ignore me now, we must talk about my car. Have you seen the state of it?
Beth - It's funny as there is barely a mark on ours!...
Len (annoyed) - Yes I saw that! And I hardly find it very funny!
Brian - I'll talk to you about it tomorrow Len, or Monday
Brian and Beth begin to walk towards their house
Len - Well you'd better Mr Abbott! Or I'll have to get the police involved
Beth gives Len a cheery smile
Beth - The police? There will be absolutely no need for such drama dear, how silly of you!
Len -Good, I do hope not
Beth - I do hope we will see you at the party tonight?
Len - Well frankly I'm not so sure now, not after what you did to my car...
Beth - Well you're welcome, it's up to you dear...if you decide not to come then that's absolutely fine, no hard feelings on my part
Beth and Brian go indoors and close the door in Len's face
GATESLAM
PART 2
Leanne is laying on her bed as Sandra creeps around the cell, trying hard not to make any noise
Cheryl arrives in the doorway
Cheryl - G'day i thought I'd come and see how you are
Sandra (whispering) - Leanne's asleep so trying not to wake her up
Cheryl (whispering) - Gee sorry
Sandra (whispering) - I'm worried about her
Cheryl (whispering) - Let's talk in my cell
They leave the cell.
Leanne opens her eyes, a tear rolls down her cheek
Peta is still with Lisa
Peta - So all this anger, all this violence, it wasn't me. I just wanted to be like Rita
Lisa nods her head and scribbles a few notes done on her pad
Lisa - I see...and any idea why you felt you had to be like Rita?
Peta shakes her head
Peta - I don't know. All my life I have felt like I have this anger bubbling away inside me, although I never knew why until now. But like most people I controlled it, kept it hidden inside. When I found out about Rita the anger finally burst out like a volcano that's laid dormant for many years and finally gets to unleash its fury
Cheryl and Sandra are in Cheryl's cell
Sandra - So she isn't eating much, she isn't getting much sleep and she looks so depressed and sad all the time. She isn't coping with prison
Cheryl - Do you know what she's in here for?
Sandra - Oh yes she told me all about that.....
Lisa is showing Peta out of her office
Lisa - Well its been a fascinating chat, I wish all the women were as open and honest with me as you were
Peta - Do you think you can help me get my parole?
Lisa - I can't make any promises and frankly it will be hard, but yes I can try. You'll be a far more productive person free than you would be in here and sadly I can't say that about some of the women. Some of them simply can't cope out there and don't have the tools to function in the outside world, that cannot be said about you. The opposite in fact from what I have seen
Back with Cheryl and Sandra
Sandra - So that's why she killed him
Cheryl looks angry
Cheryl - Bloody great isn't it! The girl gets beaten black and blue by her bastard of a husband and gets put in here for life just for ending that abuse! Well, I bloody well hope she is planning to appeal!
Sandra - No sadly I asked her that, she said she isn't
Cheryl looks even madder
Cheryl - But she has to appeal! I'll be having a word with her about this later! Someone needs to talk some sense into her
Sandra looks fretful
Sandra - Just don't badger her too much Cheryl please, I don't know if she can take it, She's very fragile
Cheryl - Don't worry I'll be gentle.....firm but gentle
Kath is sitting listening to the radio as Chrissie brings her another cup of tea
Chrissie - If you need any housework done just say so
Kath (irritated) - I can manage Latham....and you don't need to keep making me cups of tea either!
Chrissie - I'm sorry, just trying to be useful that's all
Kath sighs and lights a cigarette as the doorbell goes
Kath - That'll be my visitor, you'd better get upstairs and hide
Chrissie rushes upstairs as Kath goes to the door and opens it
Denise is there with the baby
Beth and Brian are in their back garden watching as a huge Marquee is erected
Kath hands Denise a mug of tea and takes a puff on her cigarette
Denise - Look Kath, it's none of my business if you smoke or not, but doing it around your babies is really not a great idea
Kath sighs and puts it out
Kath - Yes I'm sorry
Denise hands her the baby
Denise - Thought of a name for her yet?
Kath - I thought maybe Charlotte
Denise - Charlotte? Yes I like that
Kath - I'm still not sure if I want her you know
Denise - Yes I know, but aren't you even warming to her a little bit?
Kath looks at the baby
Kath - No I'm sorry, but I don't think so
Denise - Yes but you need time...
Kath - So everyone keeps on saying, but it doesn't seem to matter how much time passes I still feel the same...
Scott starts crying upstairs
Kath - I'd best go and see to him
Kath hands the baby back to Denise and leaves the room. Denise looks troubled
The rec room
Cheryl is watching tv as Peta arrives
Cheryl - How was the meeting with Lisa?
Peta - Good I think. she says she can try to help
Cheryl - Oh excellent
Leanne arrives and Sandra spots her and rushes over
Sandra - Good sleep?
Leanne nods her head
Leanne - Yes not bad thanks
Cheryl gets out of her seat
Cheryl - I think it's time we had a chat, Leanne..... there are a few things we need to sort out my girl
Leanne looks startled

Midara: Requiem
"When the alternative is extinction, all acts, no matter how heinous, are permitted." The story of a little necromancer who only wants to play with abominations against all that is holy dollies and her horsey, Mister Clackybones. Welcome to the novelization of one script I designed for a video game setting I call Midara (I selected the name of a genus of moths for symbolism purposes, not to be confused with anything else). Once upon a time, I dreamed of the setting being the next Final Fantasy. Long story short: Nope. Requiem itself is meant to be an Open-World RPG which adapts to the choices of the player. This is just one of many, many paths that one might follow in Requiem's gameplay, if it ever becomes a game.
