Joan glances at Ann while keeping her gun trained on Bea

They are both drunk

Vera - Old and hard before your time Vera, that's what she used to say. She was so cruel to me

Jenny looks sympathetic

Jenny - Sounds like my nana. She was a monster, a controlling monster. She faked a lot of her illness just to keep me at her beck and call. She faked a lot of it just to force me to stay with her, she didn't want me to leave

Vera nods

Vera - I think my mother was the same...selfish old cow

Jenny - And of course, nothing I did could ever be good enough, I was breaking my back trying to look after her and keep her happy and it was never enough

The police are with Kath

Kath - So you can see our window is smashed....now I want to know what you will do about this. They have already put a pile of rubble on our drive as you can see and now I have their son smashing my windows

Policewoman - Yes ... I must ask you have you done anything to provoke them?

Kath is angry

Kath - Even if I had it doesn't mean it's alright for their son to smash our windows!

Policeman - No one is saying it is Mrs Maxwell, we just want to get to the bottom of why this has happened

Jim and Vera are in the staffroom as Jim hands Vera a cup of coffee

Jim - I'll have to report this, I hope you realize that?

Vera - Why? There was no harm done

Vera turns nasty

Vera - Yes well having relations with an ex-prisoner is too and you know that. So maybe I'll tell Jan all about that as well...but of course, if you keep my secret I'm happy to keep yours. It's up to you really Jim

The police are talking to Shanice and Des on their doorstep as Kath stands at the top of the driveway

Des - Yes and we don't blame you for it...we are grateful you finally got rid of the savage mutt for us

Shanice - Yes and we don't wish to lay charges officers, the dog was savage and Karen had every right to kill it. As far as we're concerned the matters over

Kath = Well as far as I'm concerned it isn't. There is still the matter of the rubble on our driveway, our car, and the broken window

Shanice - I don't want any more trouble, I want us all to get along

Des - I'll have the rubble removed for you and the windows repaired, how does that sound?

Shanice - Not that we admit any part in it, of course, the rubble I mean...we just want to be nice seeing as you did us a favour and Kyle did smash your windows. If we can resolve this without Kyle being in trouble I'd like to

The officers look at Kath

Policeman - Sounds fair to me, might be the best way to draw a line under this?

Kath - And what about our car?

Shanice - Oh come on Karen! We had nothing to do with the rubble, we are offering to have it removed for you out of the kindness of our hearts, you can't expect us to pay for your damaged car as well
