Roo is racing down the corridor being chased by Officer Hagen

Hagen - STOP MORGAN! STOP THIS MINUTE OR YOU'LL BE ON A CHARGE!

Outside the garbage truck is hooking onto the back of the skip

Roo is still running down the corridor with Hagen chasing her

The skip is being lifted up into the air

Roo outside and runs towards the garbage truck

Roo - STOP IT STOP IT! THERE'S SOMEONE IN THERE!

The dining room

Cheryl, Bea, and Lorna are sat together

Lorna - Wow I wonder what got into Morgan just now

Cheryl - Yeah I wonder

Lorna - Hagen will have a job catching her the way she tore out of here

Mandy and Ailsa are sitting chuckling

Bea glances over and then back at Cheryl

Bea - It's funny how those two were talking to Morgan just before she ran out, perhaps they know something?

Cheryl - Yes perhaps you're right

Cheryl gets out of her seat and approaches Mandy and Ailsa

Cheryl - Why did Morgan just run out of here like that?

Mandy - Shall we tell her gran?

Ailsa shrugs

Ailsa - Yeah don't see why we should protect Morgan do you

Mandy - Nah you're right there...

Cheryl - Protect her from what? Spit it out

Mandy - Well Morgan muttered something about having second thoughts, regretting her actions. She said she had to stop it and ran out of here in a hurry

Cheryl - Stop what?

Mandy - I am not sure, she didn't really say. But gran and I were only just expressing our deepest concerns for Brumby and as soon as we did that she took off

Cheryl - I see....thanks a lot

Cheryl sits back down with Bea and Lorna

Cheryl - Interesting, very interesting

Lorna - What is it Chez? ......

Cheryl is about to answer when Colleen arrives in the room with Vera

Colleen - Attention please ladies

Outside the garbage boy is helping Roo and Hagen to lift an unconscious Brumby out of the skip

Garbage boy - How the bloody hell did she get in there?

Hagen (sarcastic) - She developed wings and flew in.......someones put her in here haven't they

Garbage boy - I'm going to the papers about this! This place is a nuthouse!

They place Brumby's wheelchair safely on the ground

Garbage boy - I'm getting the hell out of this crazy place!

The garbage boy races back into his truck, starts the engine, and pulls away

Hagan - HEY WHAT ABOUT THE RUBBISH! YOU CAN'T JUST LEAVE IT!

The truck drives away

Hagen - Help me get her to the infirmary quickly

They wheel Brumby away in a hurry

The dining room

Vera - Miss Raymond has stepped down, I am the new governor

Vera scans the room and rests her eyes on Bea

Vera - Of course, some of you will know me from the past. No doubt you will all remember the sort of regime I like to run....a strict one! Discipline is paramount!

Cheryl looks bitter

Cheryl - Yes the sort of strict regime where a bomb can go off and kill me best friend, that type of regime? That sort of top-notch discipline?

Vera - Ah yes Gibson! How nice to see you again. I can see your attitude hasn't improved, still an uncouth loudmouth

Cheryl - And you're still a miserable bitch full of hot air...

Vera - HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO ME LIKE THAT GIBSON!

Vera turns to Colleen

Vera - Take her to the storeroom to collect a very small hand brush, bucket, and detergent and she can scrub the H block corridor floors spotless...on her hands and knees that is!

Colleen - As you wish Miss Bennett

Colleen - Come on Gibson

Colleen leads Cheryl out

Vera calls after them

Vera - AND MAKE SURE SHE CLEANS IT SPOTLESS...EVEN IF IT TAKES ALL DAY!

Vera looks at Bea with a smirk

Vera - Come with me Smith, I want a private chat

Bea gets out of her seat and leaves with Vera

The infirmary

Brumby is laying on the bed. Sister Hall is examining her

Hagen - What is wrong with her sister? Why won't she wake up?

Sister Hall - She has been locked in a skip overnight. I suspect a combination of the shock and the cold caused her to pass out

Hagen - Is she going to be alright?

Sister Hall - As far as I can tell she should be, all her vital signs seem ok... it's just a case of waiting for her to wake up

Hagen turns to Roo

Hagen - You have some serious explaining to do Morgan...you realize how much trouble you're in?

Roo - Why should I be in any trouble? I saved her life, if it hadn't been for me she'd be mincemeat by now

Hagen - If it hadn't been for you she wouldn't have even been in there in the first place, would she?

Roo - Now hang on! I didn't put her in there I swear

Hagan - C'mon Morgan don't insult my intelligence, of course, you put her in there

Roo - I bloody didn't!

Hagen - If you didn't then how did you know she was in there?

Roo - Cos the real culprits told me

Hagen - So who were they?

Roo stands silent

Hagen - Well Morgan?

Roo - I can't lag, can I!

Hagen - Come on let's go and see the governor shall we

The governor's office

Vera is sitting behind the desk. Bea is standing in front of her

Vera - How Nice to see you again after all this time Smith

Bea - Yeah I'm thrilled too

Vera (smirking) - I thought you would be...

Bea - So what did you want to talk to me about? I have sheets waiting to be folded in the laundry you know

Vera - Ah yes, well it's like this Smith.....I intend to run a tight ship here, things will be the way they were at Barnehurst. That means I won't be tolerating any of your nonsense Smith. I'll be watching you like a hawk, just like I always have

Bea - You know you still haven't said thank you, Vera

Vera looks confused

Vera - Thank you for what?

Bea - For saving your life in the Barnehurst fire, what do you bloody think?

Vera - Oh that.....there would not have been a fire in the first place if it hadn't been for you

Bea - What the bloody hell are you talking about? I didn't start that fire and you damn well know it

Vera - No but you may as well have. It was your troublemaking that stirred the women into rioting, you provoked the whole thing!

Bea looks at Vera with contempt

Bea - I should have known better than to think you would show even an ounce of gratitude that I did such a minor, trivial, thing as saving your sad sorry little life

Vera - Watch it Smith!

Bea - Oh and what are you going to do if I don't? Make me scrub floors with a hand brush? Big deal

Vera - I'll let it go this time since, as you point out, you did save my life so I suppose I owe you one day's grace...but the next time you speak to me like that you will be severely dealt with I hope we are clear on that

Bea rolls her eyes

Vera sits back in her chair with a smirk

Vera - This place has changed a bit since I was last here. Like Gibson so kindly pointed out there was a bomb blast and the prison had to be rebuilt in some areas. I could do with a guide to show me the new layout...I think you should do it Bea

Bea - Me? You must be joking Vera, get Powell or Fletcher to do it?

Vera - I'd rather have you.... let's go shall we

Vera gets out of her seat

Vera - Oh and I forgot to mention one small point....any time you miss in the laundry you can make up for it during the lunch break, I'm sure you don't mind that do you, Smith?

Vera smirks and Bea looks angry

The infirmary

Sister Hall is sitting at her desk doing some paperwork, everything is silent. Suddenly Brumby can be heard screaming and crying out from the next room. Sister Hall races in

Brumby is thrashing around on the bed

Brumby - HELP! HELP! HELP!

Sister Hall tries to calm her down

Sister Hall - It's alright Tucker, you're safe now...you're safe

The laundry

Mandy is on the press

Mandy - I like it on here, I should be on here all the time

Ailsa - Yeah it suits ya Mand

Lorna - Enjoy it while ya can Slater, Cheryl will be back in later

Mandy - Don't get too cocky Lorna, my dear.....

Vera arrives with Bea

Vera - Hard at work I see ladies, just what I like to see

Vera turns to Bea

Vera - Thanks for the tour Smith... a shame you will lose 30 minutes off your lunch hour but that just can't be helped. Well I'll leave you all to it shall i

Vera leaves again

Bea - BITCH!

Mandy chuckles

Mandy - I guess our new governor doesn't like ya much eh? I have to say i do know how she feels

Bea marches over and throws Mandy off the press

Bea - I'll take over here, you can go and collect the dirty nappies from maternity

Mandy looks furious

Mandy - Stuff you! I won't do that! Why don't you send Lorna?

Bea - Because I want you to do it, Slater

Bea grabs a skip and pushes it at Mandy

Bea - Chop chop!

Mandy - And you ain't even top dog anyway, that bikie bitch is

Bea - So I'm stepping in for a while, while she's away, I know she wouldn't like it if i left a one-eyed bitch like you to throw your weight around while she was away...now get moving

Mandy leaves in a huff and Ailsa tries to follow her

Bea - She doesn't need company Ailsa, you can stay here

Roo and officer Hagen are sitting outside the governor's office

Roo - How much bloody longer do we sit here?

Hagen - Until the governor gets here

Roo - She's taking her bloody time ain't she?

Vera is walking up the corridor

Vera - Can I help you... Officer Hagen isn't it?

Hagen (surprised) - Miss Bennett? What are you doing here? If you're here to see the governor she isn't here, we are waiting to see her too

Vera grins

Vera - I am the governor Mrs Hagen

Hagen and Roo look surprised

Vera - let's go inside shall we

They go inside and Vera sits behind the desk. Roo is stood in front of her and Hagen to the side

Roo - So they let you back? After everything that happened, the bomb and all that, I am amazed

Vera - Yes it came as a shock to me too. Still, I'm glad you brought it up Morgan as you have reminded me I never did thank you did i....for letting a bomb off while I was the governor. I really owe you for that one

Roo - Yeah big deal

Vera - Anyway I digress

Vera turns to officer Hagen

Vera - My apologies Di....so tell me why did you bring Morgan to see me this morning, what has she done this time?

The infirmary

Brumby is crying

Brumby - It was dark! Cold and dark, I couldn't get out!

Sister Hall - I know...but you're safe now

Brumby - Where am I?

Sister Hall - In Wentworth Tucker, in the infirmary

Brumby looks confused

Brumby - Where?

Sister Hall - Who put you in the skip? Was it Morgan?

Brumby - Morgan?

Sister Hall - Roo Morgan remember? She's your cellmate and carer?

Brumby - Cellmate?....look I don't wish to be rude but I'll be late for school at this rate, they hand out detentions for that you know

Sister Hall looks concerned

The governor's office

Vera, Roo, and Di are stood in silence

Vera - Well? I'm waiting Morgan. why did you put Tucker in the skip?

Roo - I didn't I already told Hagen this

Vera - You mean Mrs Hagen or officer Hagen?

Roo rolls her eyes

Roo - Yeah I mean Officer Hagen of course...

Vera - Officer Hagen didn't believe you and nor do i

Roo - If I put her in there why would I bother to get her out again?

Vera - You panicked when you realized what you had done?

Roo - Tucker herself will tell you who really did it

Vera - If and when she regains consciousness you mean

There is an urgent knock at the door

Vera - Come in

Sister Hall bursts into the room

Sister Hall - Oh Miss Bennett? Where is Miss Raymond?

Vera - Miss Raymond is not here, I am the governor again now

Sister Hall (surprised) - oh........well I'm sorry governor, I didn't realize you had company but it's Tucker, she's woken up

Roo looks smug

Roo - I hope you will be willing to apologize when Tucker clears me

Vera snaps

Vera - Don't get too cocky Morgan! Even if she does clear you I can still put you on a charge of insubordination

Sister Hall - I think you had better come and see her

Vera and Sister Hall arrive at the infirmary where an agitated looking Brumby is laying on the bed

Vera - Good morning Tucker, Sister Hall tells me you are a little bit distressed, is that right?

Brumby - Look it's just like I told her, I don't know where the hell I am but I have to get to school now, I'll be late

Vera looks at Sister Hall

Vera - Amnesia?

Sister Hall - Looks like it yes

Vera has a stern expression on her face

Vera - Or a trick! It has been done before

Brumby - Where am I? I asked this nurse here and she told me it's a place called Wentworth? I've never even heard of this place and I don't know why I'm here and I should be at school!

Vera - I think you know where you are Tucker, you're a little old for school now and I think you know it

Brumby - Look I'll miss my bus! The school will ring my mum and tell her I'm not there, she will be worried!

Vera - Stop playing games Tucker, you're school days ended several years ago

Brumby - No that can't be right! I was there yesterday I know I was!

Vera - Who put you in the garbage bin? Was it Morgan?

Brumby - Mrs Morgan? Nah she's one of the nice ones

Vera - What?

Brumby - She's one of the nicer teachers. Now if you said Mr Butler that would be a different matter, what a rotten old bastard he is for sure

Vera - Oh I've had enough of this! Keep an eye on her Sister Hall...

Vera turns to leave

Roo and Hagen are waiting in the corridor as Vera emerges from the infirmary

Roo - So she cleared me right?

Vera - She did not clear you

Roo looks angry

Roo - That bitch! Look Miss Bennett she's lying I swear...

Vera - She didn't clear you, but she didn't incriminate you either. She didn't say anything that made much sense

Hagen - What exactly did she say then?

Vera - She seems to think she's back at school and is worried about missing the bus

Hagen looks amused

Hagen - You're kidding me? Amnesia?

Vera - I wish I was kidding, I could do without this type of nonsense

Hagen - Oh you reckon she's putting it on?

Vera - Indeed I do

Roo - Yeah well where does this leave me?

Vera - I still suspect you were the culprit but until I know for sure there is not much I can do but allow you to return to H block

Roo looks pleased

Vera - But I warn you I intend to get to the bottom of this and when I do if it does turn out that you were responsible I will come down on you like a ton of bricks

Roo - I wasn't responsible, I keep telling you

GATESLAM

PART 2

Janice is at home when her phone rings, she answers

Janice - Hello?......yes this is Janice Raymond

Janice's face lights up

Janice -.really? That's fantastic news, I'll come right away, thank you

Janice puts the phone down looking delighted

Colleen is in the staffroom having a cup of coffee and a fag as Ian enters the room

Ian - Hey I haven't seen you all morning where have you been?

Colleen - Supervising Gibson, Bennett ordered that she scrub the corridor floors on H block

Ian - I wonder why Janice stepped down, I wasn't expecting that were you?

Colleen - No, it certainly came as a shock. Listen Ian can you come over for dinner tonight?

Ian - Yes, I think so. I'm not doing anything

Colleen - That's great, I invited Meg too

Ian looks unimpressed

Ian - Oh...

Colleen - Look I know you two don't get on but I was hoping to change that. Meg is a good friend, I'd like it if you could get on with each other

Ian - I would love to change it and believe me I've tried but she doesn't like me Colleen and i have no idea why

Colleen - All the more reason we should have dinner together, the three of us. Try to improve things between you both

Ian moves in for a kiss

Ian - What are you going to cook? Anything special?

Colleen - It's a surprise, you'll have to wait and see

Ian - Well it sounds exciting

They kiss

Colleen - We really shouldn't do this here Ian...

Vera is in the doorway

Vera - That's right, you shouldn't!

Ian and Colleen are startled

Vera - Really Mrs Powell I am surprised at you. I would expect this kind of thing from a young testosterone filled junior officer such as Mr Henderson, but not from you

Colleen - I'm sorry Miss Bennett, it won't happen again

Vera - I should hope not! Henderson please follow me to my office, I wish to have a chat

Ian - Yes Miss Bennett

Vera leaves again

Ian - Sorry Colleen

Colleen smirks

Colleen - It's fine Ian, it was as much me as it was you. Go on you better go, don't want to keep Bennett waiting

Exterior shot of Wentworth General

Inside Maureen is sitting up in bed as Janice comes in

Janice looks over the moon as she leans over and hugs her

Janice - Maureen! I can't tell you how relieved I am that you've woken up at last

Maureen - Hello Janice

Janice - How are you feeling?

Maureen - Like I've just been hit by a car, what do you expect?

Janice looks guilty

Janice - Yes well you're ok and Tommy's ok and that's the main thing

A cold, stern-looking woman in her early 60s is in the doorway with two cups of coffee, listening. Janice has not noticed her yet

The woman - It could have turned out very differently as I'm sure you know

Janice is somewhat startled as she turns to look at the woman

Janice - Oh it's you

The woman - Yes, of course, the hospital rang me first thing, did you think I wouldn't come and see my daughter?

Janice - Of course not, it's a surprise that's all, it's been a while since we've seen each other

The woman - Yes and I see you haven't changed have you, still causing everyone grief

Janice - And you're still the same old hard-faced bitch

Maureen looks upset

Maureen - Please you two, must you always fight? Can't you be nice to each other, just for me, please?

The woman - Of course, dear, I'm sorry

Ian is with Vera in the governor's office

Vera - The reason I wanted to see you is simple Mr Henderson. I have examined your file and I am not impressed so far. Do you remember Mr Adams?

Ian - Yes Miss Bennett, what about him?

Vera - Well he was a young junior officer not long out of training too. But he thought he was a lot smarter than he really was and the women made a fool of him time and again. Frankly, he was a liability and I was all for having him transferred out of here the last time I was governor, I'd hate to have to do the same to you

Ian looks annoyed

Ian - I'm not Mr Adams Miss Bennett, in fact, I'm nothing like him

Vera - Good, I'm glad to hear that! But I'll be keeping an eye on you, all the same, I'm sure you understand

Ian - With all due respect Governor, no I don't. It feels like you have formed an opinion on me without getting to know me first

Vera - I read your file Henderson, I made my judgment on that

Ian - So I admit I was a bit wet behind the ears at first but I learn fast

Vera - Then you have nothing to fear do you Mr Henderson
