Joan is with the man again

Joan - Did you take care of Morris as I asked you to?

The men - Yes Joan I did...

Joan looks delighted

Joan - Good...what about that other bit of business? Did you find out where she is?

The man - Oh yes I took care of that too...It's just like you said, she has been staying with her daughter and son-in-law. Furthermore, her son is also living nearby now, one big cozy happy family they are from what I have seen

Joan - Really? How lovely

The man - yeah well what do you want me to do now?

Joan looks at him and smirks

Mandy and Ailsa open the door to Kelly's solitary cell and walk-in. Kelly is laying on her bed reading one of the books Matt gave her

Mandy - G'day Webster

Kelly jumps up surprised

Kelly - How did you two get in here?

Mandy - Oh that tame screw of yours helped us out, ain't that right gran?

Ailsa chuckles

Ailsa - Yeah that's right

Kelly - Mr. Brewer? What the hell have you done to him bitches! You better not have hurt him

Ailsa - Why not love? You care about him, do you?

Kelly - He's been nice to me that's all, makes a change from the usual scum in here

Mandy - Relax Webster, I'm sure he'll be fine, just have a sore head for a day or two...anyway I didn't come here to discuss him, I think you know why I'm here

Mandy points to her eye socket

Mandy - Thanks to you I am missing an eye now

Kelly - Oh don't mention it, it was my pleasure

Mandy and Ailsa walk towards Kelly who backs away to the far wall

Mandy - Now I'm going to show you just how much I appreciate what you did

Mandy and Ailsa grab hold of Kelly who thrashes around, Ailsa seems to be struggling to keep a hold of Kelly

Mandy - Hold her tighter gran!

Ailsa - That's what I'm trying to do! Gawd she's strong!

Kelly punches Ailsa in the face and sends her flying

Kelly - You should learn not to try and be tough when you're not granny

Mandy is in a rage

Mandy - HOW DARE YOU LAY A FINGER ON MY GRAN BITCH

Mandy gets a hand around Kelly's throat and chokes her

They thrash around

Kelly gets her screwdriver out and digs it into Mandy's leg

Mandy screams in pain as Kelly throws her to the floor and pins her down...

....In the next cell, Ruth can hear the noise

Ruth - What's going on in there?

Kelly - Keep out of this Ballinger!

Mandy lashes out at Kelly punching her in the face

Kelly holds her down and pokes the screwdriver in her face

Kelly - Oh no you don't Slater!

Mandy puts the screwdriver against Mandy's right eye

Mandy panics

Mandy - Get off me!

Kelly giggles

Kelly - You want to lose your remaining eye? I could do it right now, its perfectly simple

Ailsa rushes up and pushes Kelly off, they roll around

Kelly - Wasn't the punch I gave you before enough granny? now you want more!

Ailsa and Kelly roll around on the floor as Mandy gets up and runs in to help Ailsa, they pin Kelly down and Mandy grabs the screwdriver

Mandy - Maybe I'll take both your eyes out right now?

Kelly - YEAH GO ON THEN! GO ON!

Suddenly Matt and Jim burst into the room

Jim - What the hell is going on here!

Jim drags Mandy off of Kelly and takes the screwdriver off her

Jim - What do we have here Slater? Alright, where did you get it?

Mandy - Mr Fletcher that wasn't...

Kelly - She brought it in here with her to use on me Mr. Fletcher

Mandy - You rotten bitch!

Jim - This is very serious Slater, this is a dangerous weapon

Mandy looks outraged

Mandy -She's lying Mr Fletcher, I swear!. She had the screwdriver, she tried to use it on me, I simply took it off her!

Jim - Save it for the visiting justice Slater...

Mandy - Tell him the truth Webster ya bitch!

Jim - Shut up Slater

Jim looks at Kelly

Jim - Are you ok Webster?

Kelly nods her head

Kelly - Yes I think so

Jim - Mr Brewer will take you to H Block now

Kelly looks happy

Kelly - You mean I'm finally getting out of here?

Jim - Yes that's right

Kelly leaves with Matt

Jim turns to Mandy

Jim - Now she's gone you can take her place

Mandy - You do know Brewer brought her some books don't you..look there they are!

Mandy points to the books on the bed

Mandy -I thought that was against the rules!

Jim picks the books up and turns to Ailsa

Jim - Come with me...

Jim leads Ailsa out and locks the door

Jim leads Ailsa to the next cell

Jim - In you go

Ailsa - But I can't go in there, not at my age! It would just about finish me off

Jim - Something tells me it would take more than that to finish you off Ailsa, now get in

Ailsa - It's a flaming scandal, that's what it is!

Ailsa stomps in with the hump and Jim locks her in

Ailsa calls out

Ailsa - YOU ALRIGHT MANDY LOVE?

Mandy - DON'T YOU DARE TALK TO ME, GRAN! I KNEW YOU'D BLOODY MESS THIS UP FOR ME! YOU'RE TOO BLOODY OLD!

Ailsa - BUT LOVE! IT'S NOT MY FAULT!

Jim calls out from the corridor

Jim - QUIET YOU TWO!

Ruth calls out from her cell

Ruth - FLETCHER, I WOULD LIKE A WORD PLEASE

Jim opens the hatch in the door

Jim - Yes, what is it, Ballinger? Make it quick will you

Ruth - How much longer am I going to be in here Fletcher?

Jim - Until you learn the proper way to address the prison governor Ballinger

Ruth - Governor? I thought it was only acting governor?

Jim slams the hatch shut and Ruth smirks

Matt and Kelly are walking down a corridor

Kelly - How come he's letting me out anyway? I thought I was going to be stuck in there forever due to Miss Raymonds orders

Matt - I simply told Mr. Fletcher that I felt it was time to let you out and when I pointed out that as acting governor he doesn't have to listen to Miss Raymonds orders that soon did the trick

Kelly - Thanks I'm grateful

Matt - I hope later we can have a chat?

Kelly - Yes of course

They arrive at a two-bed dorm

Kelly - Hey this isn't the cell I was in? I was in a single

Matt - Yeah we gave that cell to a new inmate, a first-timer. She was pretty scared so we thought putting her alone for a while might help her settle in, you're in here with an inmate called Pauline Tucker now...

Pauline is on kitchen duty as Matt comes in

Matt - Thought you would like to know you have a new cellmate, Tucker

Pauline - Yeah? Who?

Matt - Kelly Webster

Pauline - Webster? The serial killer?...

Matt - Yes that's right...is there a problem?

Pauline smiles and shakes her head

Pauline - Oh no, of course not, I'm sure it'll be lovely sharing with her....thanks for letting me know Mr Brewer

Matt nods his head and leaves

Pauline - Oh hell...

Lorna is nearby

Lorna - What's wrong love?

Pauline - I've only just got used to the peace of being away from Slater and now they put me in with her! It's going to be the same thing all over again, isn't it! She'll make my life hell just like Slater did

Lorna - You don't know that for sure love

Pauline - Oh yes I do! I can see it now....shes a serial killer remember

Lorna - Hell love, you're right I forgot that, you poor bugger

Pauline shakes her head in despair

Pauline - I know it's selfish but I wish Helen hadn't been released, I really was happy sharing with her

Lorna hands Pauline some tins of food

Lorna - Hide these on yourself quickly

Pauline - Why?

Lorna - So you can give em to her as a present love, think about it. If i was in your shoes I would be doing all i could to keep on her good side, you don't want to be her next victim after all?

Pauline starts hiding the tins on herself, then pauses

Pauline - But doesn't she only go for redheads?

Lorna shakes her head in terror

Lorna - Not the point love...she could easily flip and change her MO anytime she fancied!

Pauline carries on hiding the tins

The governor's office

Matt is standing in front of Jim

Matt - You wanted to see me Mr Fletcher?

Jim - Yes I wanted to see you

Jim picks up the books and waves them at Matt

Jim - I found these in Websters solitary cell

Matt - Oh...

Jim - Now I don't like to take a prisoners word for it on anything, we all know how they can tell lies, but Slater seems to think you gave them to her and I don't see how else she would have had them in solitary unless an officer did indeed give them to her. So I'm afraid I have to ask this Matt...did you give them to her?

Matt - yes I'm afraid I did Mr Fletcher

Jim looks annoyed

Jim - You know the rules, Matt! Prisoners are not allowed books in solitary

Matt - yes Mr Fletcher I know

Jim - So why in God's name did you give them to her?

Matt - I felt sorry for her if you must know, solitary is such a rotten place to be. I wouldn't like to be locked up like that with nothing to do, no one to talk to all-day

Jim - It's a punishment! It's not meant to be nice! Prisoners should think before they do something wrong...like take another prisoner's eye out for example...if they find solitary a horrible experience, that's the best way to keep out of there

Matt -I know, I guess I'm too soft on them because they are women....is this going to go down on my record?

Jim sighs

Jim - I'll let it go this time...but don't ever let it happen again

Matt - I won't Mr Fletcher...thanks

Jim - You have the potential to be a great officer Matt but you still have a lot to learn I'm afraid

Matt - And I know you can teach me, Sir

Jim - I can try but it's up to you to take it in, I taught you enough at Beechmont I thought, but it seems you still have some way to go yet

Kelly is in her cell when Pauline walks in looking a bundle of nerves

Pauline - Erm hi...erm I'm your new cellmate

Kelly - G'day

Kelly holds out a hand to shake, they shake

Kelly - I don't think we've spoken before have we?

Pauline - No we haven't.....

Kelly - What's your name?

Pauline - Pauline

Kelly - I'm...

Pauline - Yes I know who you are...

Kelly - What's up love? you look a bit nervous..you're shaking?

Pauline - Well I...

Kelly - Oh you don't need to say it, Pauline, I know exactly what the problem is

Pauline (surprised) - You do?

Kelly - Yeah...withdrawals right? Alcohol is it? Just stay strong and resist the urge that's my advice, I have seen the damage alcohol does to people...

Pauline looks affronted

Pauline - No you've got it wrong, I don't...

Kelly - There is no need to feel ashamed, no need at all. I won't judge ya love

Pauline - yes but I don't...

Kelly - Just keep fighting it, the withdrawals do ease off in time trust me, and then you will feel a whole lot better

Pauline takes the tins out and slams them on the table in a huff

Pauline - These are for you, a present

Kelly picks them up to examine them

Kelly - Oh you didn't have to do that Pauline, but it's a kind thought.

Kelly takes a packet of cigarettes out of her pocket and holds out the pack

Kelly - Would you like a fag?

Pauline takes one

Pauline - Yes thanks...

Kelly - It makes a change to meet someone nice around here Pauline, they are all such thugs, especially Slater

Pauline lights up and looks like a woman in shock

Pauline - Don't take this the wrong way Kelly but...erm well....you're not what I expected at all

Kelly chuckles

Kelly - In a good way or a bad way?

Pauline - Oh in a good way...definitely a good way

Colleen is in the staffroom when Jim comes in

Jim - I've been looking for you Colleen, I have something serious to tell you... it's about Meg

Colleen - Meg? What about her?

Jim looks grim

Jim - She was involved in a car accident, the police just rang

Colleen - Hell, is she alright?.....

......Exterior shot of WENTWORTH GENERAL

Meg is sitting up in bed in a neck brace

A man is present

The man - I am detective sergeant Thompson, you had one hell of a lucky escape there Mrs Morris...at the speed, you were going you could have been killed rather than a simple case of whiplash

Meg - Yes I know sergeant..what about the others?

Sergeant Thompson - Fortunately they are all ok too...

meg shakes her head

Meg - I really have no idea what happened, I was putting my foot down on the breaks and nothing was happening, I don't understand it at all

Sergeant - I'm afraid that's because your breaks have been tampered with Mrs Morris...now I must ask you do you have any idea who would have done it? Someone with a grudge perhaps?

Meg looks stunned

Meg - No sergeant I really have no idea...

Jason Stephens is with Jim in the governor's office. Ian is also present

Jim - What seems to be the problem Mr Stephens?

Jason - I hate to get the women into trouble governor but I'm afraid to say some stuff has gone missing from the kitchen

Jim - Are you sure?

Jason - Yes quite sure, I double-checked just in case

Jim - What sort of stuff?

Jason - Oh let's see now, tins of soup, tins of fruit, that type of thing you know

Jim - I see and who was on kitchen duty today?

Jason - Tucker, Young, Balzano, Fisher, and Kennedy

Jim turns to Ian

Jim - I would like you to conduct a cell search of all those cells Mr Henderson, see if you can find the stuff.

Ian - What if it isn't in any of those cells?

Jim - Then we will search every cell but I want to search those cells first, we'll start in the most obvious places first

Ian nods his head

Ian - I'm on to it right away

Ian leaves the office

Jason remains behind looking sheepish

Jason - I'm really sorry Mr Fletcher, it's impossible to watch them all the time

Jim - No one's blaming you, Jason, just be as vigilant as you can be that's all we expect. You've done your job well in noticing the items were missing and reporting it right away

Ian is in Kelly and Pauline's cell alone searching as Kelly comes in

Kelly - What's your game then?

Ian - That needn't concern you Webster....we think Tucker may have stolen something, we are searching the cell to find out

Kelly - Well if you tell me what it is you're looking for I may be able to help ya

Ian - Yeah yeah, I've heard that line a thousand times, it gets old you know

Ian - Nothing to find amongst her stuff.....

Kelly - Oh really? Looks like you wasted your time doesn't it

Ian looks at Kelly who tries hard to hide a smirk

Ian - Unless it's hidden among your stuff?

Kelly - oh but I promise you it isn't

Ian - let's see shall we

Ian searches Kelly's stuff and finds the tins

Ian - Well well well surprise surprise...did you know they were there?

Kelly - Yeah..look Pauline stole them for me as a present if you must know, the woman was only trying to be nice

Ian - And you didn't think to report this?

Kelly - No, I don't lag on anyone

Ian - Then you're foolish, now you're an accessory and could end up right back in the pound

Kelly - If that's the price to pay for sticking to the rules then so be it

Ian - But you haven't stuck to the rules, that's precisely the point

Kelly - I meant the inmates rule Mr Henderson

Ian - I'm surprised at Tucker too, I thought she was too straight-laced for this sort of carry-on...I don't know how she'll handle the pound, I think this will be her first time unless I'm mistaken

Kelly - Oh must we get her into trouble? Can't we say I took them instead?

Ian - My my my that's very honorable Webster....you aren't the monster the media painted you as after all

Kelly looks bitter

Kelly - The media lies about everything

Ian puts the tins in his pockets

Ian - I'll tell you what, since you've been so nice I'll let you both off, how does that sound?

Kelly - it sounds marvelous, but what's the catch?

Ian - There is no catch... I have someone else in mind to take the blame for this, so we are all going to win

Kelly smirks

Kelly - Except the poor bitch who gets set up right?

Ian - Right...so deal?

Kelly shrugs

Kelly - I ain't seen those tins of peaches before in my life

Ian nods his head and leaves

GATESLAM

PART 2

Ian is back in Jim's office

Ian - There was no sign of the items in any of those cells Mr Fletcher, someone else must have taken them

Jim - In that case, we will have to search the whole prison for them

They leave the office.....

....The women are lined up against the wall as the cells are searched

Pauline looks anxious as she watches Ian and Pat Slattery search her cell

Kelly (whisper)- Relax Pauline, it's fine

Pauline (whisper) - How can it be fine? They will find the tins of food for sure

Kelly grins

Kath, Cheryl, and Vicki are waiting outside their cell as Colleen and Matt search it

Vicki - I wonder what they're looking for?

Cheryl - Buggered if I know

Vicki - Maybe they are looking for Slater's missing eye eh?

Vicki laughs and Cheryl and Kath roll their eyes

Kath - You'll never make it as a comedian Vicki love

Colleen finds the tins in Kath's locker

Colleen - Maxwell, what do you have to say about this?

Kath looks stunned

Kath - I didn't put them there, I swear to it

Colleen - Oh really? Who did then?

Colleen looks at Vicki and Cheryl

Colleen - Do either of you two know anything about this?

Vicki and Cheryl shake their heads

Colleen - In that case, I have to assume it was you, Maxwell, now come on

Colleen leads Kath away

From up the corridor, Pauline is watching confused

Pauline - I don't get it at all...

Ian and Pat emerge from their cell

Pat - You two are clean

Ian sees Colleen and Matt leading Kath away and smirks

Jim is on the phone in his office

Jim - I see Meg....can't we discuss this further?

There is a knock at the door

Jim - Come in...

The door opens and Colleen and Matt come in with Kath

Jim - Listen,Meg, can I call you later?..ok bye...

Jim hangs up

Jim - Yes what is it?

Colleen - The tins of food, we found them in Maxwell's locker

Jim looks at Kath

Jim - You know Maxwell, if you are having cravings because of the baby all you had to do was ask and we would have made some allowances...but as it is, stealing the items?

Jim shakes his head in dismay
