Exterior shot of Wentworth in daytime
Inside Jim is sat behind the governor's desk in a suit, he has the staff gathered around
Jim - Miss Raymond is taking some time off to deal with personal problems and in her absence, I will be deputy governor...Miss Raymond has left strict instructions regarding Kelly Webster, she is to remain in solitary, she is to have no visitors, phone calls, nothing
Meg looks concerned
Meg - But we can't keep her there forever Jim? She's already done 24 hours
Jim shrugs
Jim - Miss Raymond sees her as too dangerous to be allowed to roam around free and I tend to agree with her, look what she did to Slater....and while we're on the subject she is expected back here sometime this morning
Colleen rolls her eyes
Colleen - Great more trouble!
Spike and Graham are sat eating breakfast, Spike is humming cheerfully
Graham - You're in a good mood this morning
Spike - Yes I certainly am, I'm free aren't i
Graham - I'm glad you're out of there, I can't imagine how awful it must have been...I am still amazed you managed to get bail
Spike - It's like I told ya, Grace felt he owed me a favour for Kelly Webster
Graham - And he really thinks he can get you off and keep your job at the center?
Spike -That's what he said yes
Graham - I hope so Margaret, I want things to work out for you..for both of us
Spike - I want that too...I was so sure you'd want nothing more to do with me but I'm glad you do
Graham -Of course I do Margaret, I like you a lot and it will take more than that to get rid of me
Meg and Colleen are in the staffroom
Meg - So I hear they brought Maxwell back in last night?
Colleen - Yes, but look Meg please don't go near her, I do understand how you must feel but just remember Carol Lewis, Meg, how you advised me to put my personal feelings aside and keep professional
Meg looks confused
Meg - What are you talking about Colleen?
Colleen looks stunned
Colleen - You mean you don't know?
Meg - Know what Colleen?
Colleen - It's Marty...
Colleen pauses and looks awkward
Meg - Marty? Oh for god sake tell me...
Kath is stood in front of Jim in the office. Matt is stood to the side
Jim - I won't waste my breath lecturing you on how foolish you were Maxwell as I'm sure none of it will sink in
Kath rolls her eyes
Jim - I am sending you back to H Block for now as Maternity is full but as soon as a space becomes available there I am sending you there
Kath shrugs
Kath - I expected as much
Jim - And let me give you a warning, I am aware of your recent drug use, prior to your escape. It was noted down on your file several times. I find it disgusting that any pregnant woman would expose her unborn child to drugs in this way and I'm going to be watching you from now on
Kath - It was only a bit of grass ...
Jim - Only a bit of Grass? It is damn irresponsible and I cannot believe you would be so foolish especially after your first child was born deformed, why would you risk it a second time?
Kath - That was due to the Vietnam war, my husband was exposed to defoliants. I really doubt a bit of grass would have the same effect
Advertisement
Jim - Unless you're a dr I don't see how you are qualified to make such an assumption Maxwell, the point is I will be watching you like a hawk
Kath - I only took the damn drugs because being in this place gets me down so much. I used to see no end to it, no hope, but Marty changed all that. We were going to run away together and never see the inside of a prison again, well that's all down the drain now isn't it
Kath is tearful
Kath - I get so damn sick of this place Mr Fletcher, you have no idea what it's like
Jim doesn't look impressed
Jim - Spare me the tears Maxwell, self-pity doesn't impress me. You're here because you committed a crime same as all the others. What makes you think you have any right to be free? You have no damn right until you have completed your sentence..a sentence which is going to be very long if you carry on the way you have been
Kath - I should never have been put here in the first place, all I did was...
Jim - Kill your own daughter, yes I know
Kath - End my child's suffering was what I was going to say
Jim looks at her in disgust
Jim - If you say so...personally I suspect it's more likely you just got bored of the child
Kath is shaking with rage
Kath - How dare you! What right have you to sit there and judge me like that? You know damn all about it
Jim - Careful Maxwell...
Kath - What would you know about Vietnam? About the damage it caused?
Jim - That's enough...
Kath leans across the table
Kath - You know nothing about it do you? Nothing at all
Jim - I SAID THAT'S ENOUGH!
Kath stands back up with a smirk
Jim - Not that it's any of your business but I know plenty about it, I was there too just like your husband was. I saw things that I still have nightmares about so how dare you stand there and tell me I know nothing about it
Kath looks guilty
Kath - Look I'm sorry, I didn't...
Jim - Just shut up, I've had enough of listening to you...I'm not impressed with your attitude Maxwell. I am not impressed by pregnant women putting their unborn children at risk and I will not tolerate it
Kath - You''ve made your point, can I go now?
Jim - You can go when I've finished with you and not before...When this baby is born I will see to it personally that it goes into care right away
Kath - But I can have him for 2 years...
Jim shakes his head
Jim - Sorry Maxwell, only if you are deemed fit to keep the child. I'll see to it that you aren't
Kath - You bastard! I guess you're one of those bitter men whose ex-wife won't let him see his kids eh? She got custody after the divorce did she so now you want to punish me and every other pregnant prisoner by taking their kids from them? Is that it?
Jim looks ready to fly into a rage, Matt stands looking uneasy. Jim manages to suppress his anger
Jim turns to Matt
Jim - Get her out of my sight
Matt - C'mon Maxwell
Matt quickly leads Kath out of the office
They walk up the corridor
Matt - You're a real piece of work aren't you
Kath - I don't remember asking for your opinion
Advertisement
Matt - Yeah well you're going to get it anyway...you're scum
Kath - Oh spare me. I've heard it all before, call me what you like, you don't even know me, you're new here and think you know it all already...
Matt - I know when I'm looking at some big-mouthed bitch who says vile, hurtful things to people without caring about the hurt it could cause
Kath - You mean about Vietnam? So I didn't know he served in it did I,...I did apologies
Matt - It's not just about Vietnam... Mr Fletcher lost his kids years ago, they died in a bomb blast....so maybe you should have a think about what you just said to him in there
Kath - Oh...I didn't know
Matt snaps
matt - No you didn't did you! Just like you didn't know about Vietnam. That's my point, you didn't know anything before you made your spiteful comments, you just made them, and to hell with finding out the facts first eh
Kath - Why do you care so much anyway?
Matt - Mr Fletcher has been good to me that's all and I know that your comments in there hurt him a lot
Kath - And what about the things he said to me? I'm supposed to take those lying down I suppose
Matt - You should yes, you're the prisoner, he's the governor, know your place
Kath - Oh you're going to fit in here just fine aren't you, I can see that
Colleen is in reception as a one-eyed Mandy is brought in
Ruth arrives at her cell to find all her special stuff being taken away by Ian and other officers
Ruth - What is going on here? That's my stuff you're taking!
Ian - Governors orders I'm afraid
Ruth - I want a word outside now
Ian follows her out to the corridor
Ruth - I thought Miss Raymond and I had a deal?
Ian - It wasn't Miss Raymond who ordered it, it was Mr Fletcher. Janice has taken some leave and he's acting governor
Ruth - This is outrageous! I demand to speak to him right away
Ian -- He is a busy man Ballinger, I'm sure he doesn't wish to speak to you
Ruth - I told you to address me as Mrs Ballinger boy!
Ian laughs at her
Ian - You've been knocked off your perch Ballinger, you're nothing around here anymore...you're not even top dog anymore
Ruth - Yes I am! You know I am Henderson!
Ian - Oh but all that has changed, this morning at breakfast time someone else took over
Ruth looks furious
Ruth - Who did?
Ian - Gibson took the spot back
Ruth - We'll see about that
Ruth marches off in a rage
Matt and Kath arrive at the three-bed dorm
Kath - So I've still got my old cell then?
Matt - Looks like it
Kath - At least that's something, I get sick of being moved around to different cells
Matt - Make the most of it. you'll be in maternity soon enough
Matt leaves the cell. Kath turns her back to the door to switch on the kettle and Meg appears in the doorway
Kath turns around and is startled to see meg
Kath - Mrs Morris....I wondered when you'd show up
Meg - Did you?
Kath - You've come about Marty I take it?
Meg - You're damn right I've come about Marty...thanks to you he's now on remand at Woodridge
Kath - Yes I know
Meg - Is that all you have to say about it?
Kath - What do you expect me to say?
Meg - Aren't you even sorry? You've ruined his whole life!
Kath - I didn't force him to do it you know, he is a big boy, he makes his own decisions
Meg shakes her head
Meg - Oh no...no you manipulated him, you played with his head. Marty was a straight, honest, decent officer until you got your claws into him, he never broke the rules. God, i thought Marsh was bad for him but she was a saint compared to you
Kath - Straight was he? Decent?
Meg - Yes he was, of course, he was
Kath pats her stomach
Kath - This little fella could be his
Meg - I don't believe you?
Kath shrugs
Kath - Suit yourself...we'll find out soon enough, won't we?
Meg storms out
Colleen is walking along the corridor with Mandy
Mandy - Where is that bitch?
Colleen - Who Slater?
Mandy (irritated) - Margaret Thatcher!......bleeding hell, Webster of course, who do you think?
Colleen - She's in the pound...listen to me Slater, we don't want any revenge attacks on Webster you understand me? Just leave her to us to deal with
Mandy - Yeah sure...
Colleen - I mean it Slater
The laundry
Cheryl is on the press as Ruth marches in
Ruth - You never learn do you, Gibson! I'm in charge of this prison now and I have the governors support
Cheryl - You mean Miss Raymond?
Cheryl chuckles
Ruth - What is so damn funny?
Cheryl picks a file up from where it is hidden behind a shelf and waves it at Ruth
Cheryl - Miss Raymond visited me in my cell last night after lockup to give me this... it's your file Ballinger
The others have surrounded them
Cheryl - She said it was a little present for us from her, I never knew she had a nice side did you?
Vicki - The file tells us all about your sick child porn rackets
Cheryl - I have never been so disgusted by anything in my life
Ruth - Well none of it's true I was set up!
Vicki - Well we don't believe you do we, Cheryl?
Cheryl - No, not at all. You're one vile bitch
Ian is standing in the doorway
Ian - What's going on here? One day I will walk in here and find you all hard at work
Cheryl - Nothing Mr. Henderson, just having a little chat with Ruth
Ruth - I want to see Fletcher right now!
Ruth storms out of the laundry and bumps into Mandy in the corridor
Ruth - Slater.....I'm glad you're back
Mandy - Oh really?
Ruth - Yes I need your help pulling that lot into line
Mandy - Forget it, I'm only interested in Webster now
Ruth is angry
Ruth - Listen to me girl...
Mandy - No Ballinger, listen to me. All I care about now is fixing Webster, you got that?
Mandy points at her empty eye socket
Mandy - After what she did to me she's history
Mandy carries on past
Meg is with Jim in the office
Meg - I'm sorry to ask Jim but I need the rest of the day off
Jim nods his head
Jim - Of course Meg, you need to go and see Marty
Meg - Oh so you knew too? Seems everyone knew before I did
Jim - Meg I'm sorry...
Meg - I just need to go and see Marty...
Jim - Yes go, Meg, you need to see him, I understand
As Meg leaves Ruth barges in without knocking and slams the door behind her
Jim - I don't know what you think you're playing at but you do not march in here without an appointment
Ruth - Save it of the rest of that rabble, you don't know who I am do you?
Jim - Yes I do Ballinger, I know all about you
Ruth - You have made a mistake ordering my cell to be stripped back to the bare minimum, I would like the order revoked right away
Jim - I won't do that Ballinger, while I am in charge here you will be treated the same as everybody else
Ruth - I demand to speak to Dwyer right away! Perhaps if you won't listen to me you'll listen to him, he'll tell you right now that you're making a mistake here
Jim - It was he who ordered your cell to be stripped
Ruth - That's rubbish!
Ian rushes in
Ian - I'm sorry Sir, I tried to stop her
Jim - It's ok Mr Henderson, please take her away now...I need someone to clean the toilet block, take Ballinger to do it, please
Ruth looks outraged
Ruth - Clean the toilet block?
Jim - Yes Ballinger, got a problem with that?
Ruth - This is outrageous! I demand to speak to Dwyer now!
Dwyer is with Janice in his office as the phone rings, Dwyer answers
Dwyer - James Dwyer speaking?
It's Ruth calling from the reception
Ruth - What are you playing at Dwyer? I want my stuff back right away or I'll have to have a little chat with Wendy...
Dwyer - Tell her what you like she won't believe you
Ruth - But I have the proof to send her you know that!
Dwyer smirks and glances down at his desk.
There is a folder full of photos of Dwyer in bed with various women, as well as some negatives
Dwyer - Your Mr Pendlebury gave the whole lot to me, there is nothing for you to use on me anymore
Ruth - You're lying! Nicholas would never do that to me
Dwyer - Money talks Ruth, you know that...good day
A smug Dwyer hangs up and looks at Janice
Dwyer - Are you absolutely sure there are no more copies?
Janice - Totally sure Sir...Pendlebury assured me and I believe him
Dwyer hands Janice an envelope
Dwyer - The money is in there, you did very well Miss Raymond, thanks
Janice - I hate Ballinger that's all
Ruth is on the phone with Nicholas
Ruth - You bastard! How could you do this to me?
Nicholas - Miss Raymond offered me a lot of money
Ruth - Raymond did? Not Dwyer?
Nicholas - Raymond was the one who tracked me down, I must have got her attention when she saw me visiting you, she's a smart woman Ruth, very Smart
Ruth - Well that's more than I can say for you Nicholas, having known me as long as you have you should have known better than to cross me, now you're going to pay
Nicholas laughs
Nicholas - You have no power anymore Ruthy darling, you're nothing, nothing, and no-one, the only person who will do business with you is that bastard Murphy down at Blackmoor
Nicholas hangs up
GATESLAM
PART 2
Connie is asleep on the sofa as Tess wakes her up
Tess - John's gone to work and I want a chat, just the two of us
Connie - What about?
Tess - Look I don't want you here I'm sorry...I can give you some money, will you go if I do? How much is enough, I can give you a couple of hundred and that should see you right for a while?
Connie - It wasn't my idea to come here in the first place, it was John's
Tess - I know, well John can't help himself, he is too kind-hearted. He sees someone in need and he immediately wants to help them out. But this is my home and he never asked me if I minded
Connie - I've known from the first moment you saw me you didn't want me here
Tess - It's nothing personal I promise you, I just prefer it when it's just myself and John
Connie - No need to explain, I understand
Tess - So you'll go?
Connie - Sure, you clearly don't want me here, I know when I'm not wanted
Tess - I do wish you the best of luck sweetheart, please believe that
Connie - Yeah thanks....well that money you're offering will help a bit at least
Tess - Yes, of course, I'll run us to the bank and get it now for you, get your things together
Exterior shot of Woodridge
Inside Marty is waiting in a room as Meg is shown in. Meg rushes in to hug him
officer - No physical contact, please
They let each other go and sit down
Meg - Oh Marty, you've got yourself in a real mess this time
Marty - I know mum, I don't need the lecture ok
Meg - But why? I just don't understand it, Marty, not at all. I thought you were happy with Marsh
Marty - I was...I don't know why it happened, it just did. I like Kath too
Meg - That bitch! She's ruined your life
Marty - No mum! Don't blame her, its just as much my fault
Meg - She told me the baby could be yours, that's not true is it?
Marty nods his head
Marty - Sorry mum but it is
Meg - Oh Marty why? I don't understand it, I thought i knew you but it seems I don't. The Marty I knew wouldn't have got a serving prisoner pregnant
Marty bows his head looking guilty
Marty - Well there's a lot more about me you don't know mum
Janice is with Nicholas
Janice - There's one more job I want you to do
She hands him the envelope full of cash
Janice - I want Ballinger set up to take the blame for trying to have my son and my sister killed
Nicholas - But Miss Raymond, she really wasn't behind that I promise you. Surely you'd prefer the real culprit to be found?
Janice - I already know who the real culprit was and I can deal with her in my own way. I want Ballinger framed for it, that lady is nothing but trouble and I'm going to show her whose boss
Back with Meg and Marty
Meg is crying

The Werewolf Cheerleader
Being a cheerleader is easier than being a werewolf. Jessica Tumbleleague is a typical teenage girl who loves being a cheerleader at Moondale High. But after an encounter with a werewolf in the woods, Jessica discovers a frightening world she never thought is real. Dangerous magic, deadly fierce spirits, and other malevolent creatures. Now Jessica must fight the forces of darkness to protect her hometown while balancing her supernatural life with her high school life. But can she control the beast within herself? Note: This is a rewrite of the original with the same name. I decided to change the third-person style to first-person because I liked Jessica's voice better. She is funny and very strong. With the story only focusing on her, I can keep the mystery suspenseful and the reader can experience what Jessica is experiencing. It is a typical YA style, but it is fun to write as your main character. There are changes, but the first and second books will be similar to the third-person chapters. Let me know what you think and I hope you will enjoy this new version of the Werewolf Cheerleader. I will post the chapters every Friday in the afternoon. P.S, there is a Werewolf Cheerleader short story published in the Tales of Dungeons, All Hallows book. Titled The Werewolf Cheerleader: Castle and Ghouls. The short is also in first-person, which made me decide to change the book series into first-person. The link is below if you want to check it out. https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B08MCS82R5

Touch O' Luck (The Old Realms)
A young provincial thief of no particular renown has his life of crime changed in a day. He ‘stumbles’ upon a huge pile of gold for starters and soon after a dead man carrying a letter of 'royal' interest. Literally. While at it he ‘earns’ a title of sorts, along the promise of a life out of the gutter. Before he can properly appreciate the dramatic turn of his fortunes, he’s drawn into a dangerous conspiracy that threatens to embroil two continents in a devastating war. The whole affair seems to cry out for a gallant hero of old, or failing that a cunning diplomat, but he’s neither. Perhaps a lying scoundrel, which our lad definitely is, would have to suffice. He does ‘acquire’ a dagger that knows a dead language after all and that must count for something. The Old Realms series: Touch O' Luck (Finished) Lure O' War (Ongoing) Wings O' Fate First chapters will be uploaded immediately. After that there will be updates every 3-5 days. Cover artwork by @IntheBlackveil All tags are relevant but most chapters are not too extreme. Fair warning dear reader, this is an 'unfiltered' story, sometimes sweet, others bitter, touching some heavy subjects or problems, like crime, war, betrayal, pride, politics, revenge etc set in a Epic Fantasy backdrop with shades of Grimdark. In its heart of hearts though, it is an adventure.

Sweet Minds
"No one can see it, some can feel it, and only the few can use it. We belong to the few." Marith Merryfield felt anything but merry that morning. She found herself waiting for a delayed train on a deserted platform, in the freezing cold of the Dutch autumn. Just when the strangeness is making her consider turning around and going back home an empty train rolls into the station. For reasons unclear to this day she decides to get onboard. An unlikely, and quite impossible, train accident is about to hurtle her into a world she had always suspected existed. It was a dark and absurd place she had rejected and suppressed when she was young. Now she would need that dormant part of herself to survive. After a brief hospitalization she must choose between two continents and finds herself reluctantly boarding a plane to Oregon to be reunited with her shadows. She returns to the town she grew up in, which is where her father still lives and her childhood memories linger. By the end of the week the mysterious train accident turns out to be the least of her problems. Her life was never supposed to become this serious this fast. Through an improbable and unfortunate series of events she is soon introduced to a motley crew of characters that appear to be carrying the same struggles through life. They possess a familiar sense of inadequacy and insecurity. Marith realizes that for the first time in her life she has found herself a tribe, or, as they prefer to call it, a Chain. She is introduced to a world of Prophets, Runners and Mages led by an Oracle and a Watchmaker. Over the course of several weeks Marith learns that, together with her Chain, she is expected to save this fabric of reality, by fighting a mysterious and immortal creature and his aggressive pet. In order to have a chance at overcoming this force of nature she has to revisit the darkest and most desolate corners of her mind. ***** The total word count of the first 12 chapters amounts to about 85.000 words. The total word count of the first 30 chapters will amount to about 225.000 words. My chapters range, roughly, from 5.000 to 10.000 words. I post with irregular intervals, on random days and at different times. I hope you will enjoy the story! English is not my first language and I am very much open to constructive criticism. Disclaimer: I regularly use impressionistic or abstract language on purpuse, when I think it might benefit the story.
