All hell has broken out on the roof as the men attack the women. Malcolm and other officers charge up to try and break the fight up, they have weapons. Down below the media are filming the events.
The visiting room.
Other officers are now present. Derek's body has been covered up.
Chrissie is sitting cradling Elizabeth's body. Neil is being led away in handcuffs
Neil - She's free now Chrissie...she's free, don't you see it's all for the best?
Chrissie looks at Neil in stunned silence. Neil gives Chrissie a smile as he is led away
Colleen kneels beside Chrissie
Colleen - Come on Chrissie...
She gently moves Chrissie away from Elizabeth's body
Chrissie - She's my baby Mrs. Powell...she's my baby girl, I have to be with her
Colleen (soft gentle voice) - C'mon I'll take you to see the sister, see what she can give you to help you feel better ok?
Chrissie - I don't want to feel better! I want my baby!
Colleen leads Chrissie away
Chrissie turns hysterical
Chrissie - NO I WANT MY BABY!!!! I WANT MY BABY GIRL!!!!!!
On the roof, Malcolm releases some tear gas which subdues half of the prisoners. Stud tries to attack the woman with his razor blade but Cheryl gives him a kick in the face and he falls over dropping the razor blade. Billy gets the razor blade and puts it around Brumby's throat. He moves towards the edge of the roof with Brumby
Malcolm and the officers begin to herd prisoners back down from the roof. In the corridor below, they are all bunched up. Kath, Vicki, and Stud are there amongst others
Malcolm - Line up against the wall, women one side, men the other side
Janice has joined them. Malcolm hands Janice a gun
Malcolm - Keep guard, make sure no one moves. I am going back up onto the roof to get the rest down
Janice nods as Malcolm leaves
Janice - Well this is a cozy little party isn't it....no one moves, no one talks ok. Just stand still and be quiet. I'm not afraid to use this thing ladies and gentlemen.
Stud stares at the women with hatred on his face. Kath has eye contact with him and is equally as hostile
On the roof, only a handful of prisoners remain. They are quickly herded back inside.
Billy is on the roof edge with Brumby, the razor blade still at her throat. Cheryl is standing close by
Cheryl - Just let the poor girl go, mate, come on, look she's terrified. Is this any way to treat a lady? Be a gentleman now eh
Billy - These Wentworth slags ain't no ladies! And I sure ain't no gentleman. ...
...Malcolm and various officers have herded the last of the prisoners off the roof. Malcolm turns to the other officers
Malcolm - Go inside I will stay here and deal with this
Officer - Are you sure you don't need any help, Sir?
Malcolm - Yes quite sure, the fewer people up here the better...go on inside
Officer - As you wish Sir
The last of the officers go inside and Malcolm walks off towards Billy, Brumby, and Cheryl
Cynthia, Ian, and Delia are outside in the grounds with the media, all looking up at the roof
A man with a microphone approaches Cynthia and talks into the camera
The man - This is Blackmoors new Governor Mrs. Leach... let's see what she has to say about all this shall we
Cynthia shields her face and turns away from the camera

Cynthia - Get that thing away from me now!
The man - Mrs. Leach, we were hoping for a few words from you? Have you anything for us?
Cynthia - No comment
The man - After the Craven scandal, the public was assured blackmoor would be reformed. This doesn't seem to be the case so far does it. Anything to say about that?
Cynthia - No comment
The man - Are you just as Corrupt as Mr. Craven was?
Cynthia - NO COMMENT!!
Cynthia marches back towards the building as Colleen comes out
Colleen - Governor, there has been a serious incident in the visitor's suite
Cynthia (ill-tempered) - Not now Mrs. Powell! Can you not see we have a major crisis here!
Colleen - Yes well we have had a major crisis in the visiting suite too....two people have been shot dead, one a child
The roof
Malcolm has now Joined Cheryl at the rooftop.
Malcolm - You can go inside Gibson, I can handle this now
Cheryl - I'm not going anywhere...
Malcolm senses Cheryl's determination and nods at her
Malcolm - Now what's all this Slocum? We expect this type of behaviour from Wilson, not from you
Billy laughs dementedly
Billy - Yer well I am always the one in Stud's shadows aren't i. Always his whipping boy, his sidekick. Well just look at me today! I'm the big boss for once, I call the shots!
Malcolm - Why don't you let Brumby go?
Billy - Nah no way!.. I want you to get me out of this dump now. I still have 20 years to serve...20 years man! I can't do another day in this shit hole. I want out now, free. Or Tucker and I are both going over the edge of this roof
Malcolm and Cheryl look horrified
Malcolm - Come on now son...
Billy laughs again
Billy - You think I'm joking? I'm not. Tucker and I will commit suicide together won't we Tucker
Brumby is crying
Billy edges them closer to the rooftop
Billy - What's it to be Mr. Preston?
Inspector Grace and Sergeant Johnson arrive at the front gates where Colleen is waiting for them
The roof.
Malcolm - This isn't you Slocum, you are a lot of things but not a murderer. You force Tucker over that roof with you and you are a murderer. Come on son you're better than that
Billy shakes his head
Billy - I'm not, I'm not better than that. I'll do it
He nods his head frantically
Billy - Oh I'll do it! I'll show Stud, I'll show all of you who think I am a useless wimp...oh yeah I'll show you!
Malcolm - Look Slocum we can end this now, just do the right thing lad. It will look better for you if you stop this willingly, I'll put in a good word for you
Billy- Go to hell Preston! Do I get out of here or am I going off the roof with Tucker? Either way, i am getting out of this stinking shit hole today, it's just a case of whether or not Tucker lives or dies
Malcolm - No escape lad, you know it's not possible. Let's just be sensible here, shall we?
Billy has his arms around brumby's waist, he dangles her over the edge of the roof
Billy - She's gonna fall, I can feel my grip loosening
Brumby screams her head off.
Malcolm seems to be panicking. Cheryl is losing patience. Billy has his back to them as he dangles Brumby over the roof, he is turning his head around to talk to Malcolm and Cheryl. He grins at them

Billy - Bye-bye...
Malcolm - You don't have the guts son, stop this now
Billy - Oh I have the guts alright
He turns his head away to whisper in Brumby's ear
Billy - We're getting out of this place forever, both of us together, ain't that nice
Brumby - Please don't.....
Billy laughs again
Billy - Can you fly Tucker? Let's give it a try eh
Brumby screams as he goes to launch them both off the roof. But Cheryl runs forwards and drags them back. The three of them fall to the floor. Billy drops his razor and Billy and Cheryl struggle around on the floor both trying to get at it. Brumby gets up and runs to the safety of Malcolm
Malcolm comforts her
Malcolm - It's alright Tucker, you're safe now
Billy gets a hold again of the razor
Billy - You lousy stinking bitch! ruined everything!
He tries to attack Cheryl with the razor
They fight and edge closer to the roof again
Brumby and Malcolm watch on.
Billy gets the razor to Cheryl's throat and pushes her towards the edge
Billy - You want to take Tucker's place? That's very brave, very admirable
Cheryl - You really are a coward Slocum, haven't even the guts to commit suicide by yourself, have to take someone with you
Billy - Shut up! shut up!
Cheryl - You should do us all a favour and just bloody well jump! But show us what a brave boy you are, go on your own
Billy - You're coming with me bitch, save your breath!
Cheryl - Pathetic wimp! You're a joke!
Billy - shut up and die bitch!
He goes to push Cheryl but she lands a karate kick on him. They struggle around some more and Cheryl overpowers him and backs away to safety. He is still near the edge, with a smirk and one savage push Cheryl shoves Billy off the roof. He screams as he falls
Below everyone watches in horror as Billy falls to the ground
GATESLAM
PART 2
The governor's office.
Cynthia is sat behind the desk as her officers are all gathered around her
Cynthia - It's a mess, a damn mess!
The officers are all silent
Cynthia - Anyone got anything to say? Or do you all plan to stand there in silence? I'd like to know who it was who let the media into the courtyard?
Delia and Ian sheepishly put their hands up
Cynthia - Why did you do that?
Delia - Mr. Preston sent us out for some fresh air after our shock today
Ian - yeah and I needed a fag
Delia - Yeah and they were at the gates, they insisted they had permission to come in
Cynthia - I see and you didn't think to ring through to check with me?
Delia and Ian are silent, heads bowed
Cynthia - Get out of my sight! You are both dismissed from Blackmoor. Stout, you can go home and wait to return to Wentworth. As for you Henderson, I have already put in a request for you to be transferred to Wentworth, Mr. Dwyer has been considering it, he is bound to agree now. Clearly, a high-security prison such as this is no place for either of you
Delia and Ian leave
Cynthia - Now, who were the ringleaders of to days little adventures?
Malcolm - It would appear Maxwell led the women and Wilson led the men
Cynthia - Then I want to see Maxwell and Wilson at once, please
There is a knock at the door
Cynthia - Come in
Colleen enters
Colleen - Inspector Grace is here to interview Neil Murray, he is with him now. I think he will want to talk to us about Slocum's death too
Cynthia - Yes no doubt he will.
Colleen - And another thing governor...Mr. Dwyer is on his way. I'm sorry to tell you this but he sounded pretty wound up
The interview room
Neil Murray is led in. Grace and Johnson are sitting smoking as he is shown into a seat
Grace - Good afternoon Murray, I am sure you know why we are here?
Neil - Indeed yes
Grace - You have killed two people son...one of them a child. What do you have to say for yourself?
Neil - I'm sorry I shot Derek Latham, he just got in my way, it was unavoidable but regrettable all the same. As for Elizabeth I simply set her free Inspector
Johnson - Free from what Murray?
Neil - From a life as a whore of course. Don't you see, it wasn't murder? it was an act of compassion, it was for the greater good. I saved her soul, now she is clean
Grace and Johnson look at each other speechless
Chrissie is laying in bed in the infirmary staring into space, she is hugging one of Elizabeth's toys, a cuddly bear, close to her chest
Colleen arrives with Malcolm and they talk to the sister
Colleen - How is she sister?
Sister - She's calm now, sedated. I am still worried about her though, the drugs will wear off in time and then I have to give her more, it keeps her calm but it's not a long term solution
Malcolm - I understand....we need to get her to pull herself together and as quickly as possible
Colleen looks incredulous
Colleen - Mr. Preston the woman has just watched her daughter and Brother be shot dead. How can we expect her to pull herself together at this time? She's in shock
Malcolm - I know what you are saying but she needs to come to terms with it so she can grieve properly
Malcolm approaches Chrissie and gently shakes her
Malcolm - Latham can you hear me?
Chrissie is out of it, unresponsive
Malcolm - Where did she get the bear?
Colleen - I gave it to her. Elizabeth had it with her when they came in, there isn't a problem with her having it is there?
The sister - I think she should have it, it seems to be a comfort to her
Malcolm nods
Malcolm - Ok I see no harm in her having it
Malcolm turns on his heels and leaves the room. Colleen stays behind a moment and gently strokes Chrissie's hair
Colleen fights back tears
Colleen - I know what you're going through Chrissie. I lost my own two kids several years ago. I'm so sorry, I would never wish the pain I went through on anyone. Well I'll leave you to rest
Colleen turns to the sister
Colleen - Look after her won't you?
The sister nods. Colleen nods back satisfied. She wipes the tears from her eyes, takes a deep breath, and marches off.
Kath and Stud are stood before Cynthia. Janice and Officer Bailey are present
Cynthia - I have been told by my officers that you two were the ring leaders. Now I want an explanation
Kath - I led the women into what was meant to be a peaceful protest, it was Wilson and his men that turned it into a riot
Cynthia - A peaceful protest about what?
Kath - The lousy conditions for the women here. The men get all the work we get to sit twiddling our thumbs all day. it's not good enough
Cynthia - I hope you realize the trouble you have caused me, Maxwell? I blame you more than Wilson here, there would have been no riot had you not instigated the entire thing. I could lose my job over this
Kath snaps
Kath - So you damn well should! You're a crap governor Leach!
Cynthia slams her fist on the desk in a fit of temper
Cynthia - You do not talk to me like that EVER! You will regret this Maxwell. Officer Bailey get her to the hole
Officer Bailey leads Kath out. Kath gives Cynthia a look of contempt as she is led out
Cynthia - Wilson, don't think you are off the hook yet either
Stud - Please governor may I have a word in private with you?
Cynthia - I'm sure whatever you have to say you can say in front of Miss Raymond
Stud - No governor, I can't. I think you will be most interested in what I have to say
Cynthia - Oh very well...Miss Raymond wait outside
Janice obediently leaves and closes the door but once outside immediately put her ear to the door to listen in
Cynthia - This had better be good Wilson, you know how I dislike having my time wasted
Stud - It is...it's like this governor. Maxwell is a troublemaker and I know you are going to make her pay for what she did today right?
Cynthia - Correct...but like I told you you yourself are hardly off the hook yet
Stud - I know a way I can make amends to you miss...and get Maxwell out of your hair at the same time without either of us having to lift a finger
Cynthia - I'm listening
Stud - You know Matt Denson?
Cynthia - Yes the blind prisoner?
Stud - Yes....well he hates Maxwell, she killed his brother you see. He wants to kill her, all we have to do is take Maxwell to an isolated area, lock her in and let him in with her and he will finish her off
Cynthia - Hmm I'm not sure Wilson. I mean it's a good idea but is he really up to it?
Stud - I am convinced he is. He really hates her and is determined to kill her
Janice is listening outside the door, smirking, plotting
Inspector Grace and Sergeant Johnson are in the staff room with Colleen and Malcolm
Grace - Quite an eventful day here today then?
Malcolm - Yes you could say that
Colleen - Have you finished with Murray then Inspector?
Grace sighs
Grace - Yes, I can't see what else there is to discuss. The man fully admits what he did but doesn't seem to see it as murder, rather as some sort of mercy killing to save her. I have interviewed many sick criminals in my time, but few can make my skin crawl in the way he did today
Johnson - I second that. That is one man who will never see the light of day other than from behind barbed wire ever again
Grace finishes his coffee
Grace - Well I suppose we should deal with Slocum's death.
He looks at Malcolm
Grace - I heard you were present Mr. Preston, a prisoner called Gibson pushed him is that correct?
Malcolm looks awkward
Malcolm - Well yes she did but you have to understand he had a razor blade, he was trying to push her off the roof
Grace - So it was self-defense?
Malcolm pauses a second
Johnson - Well Mr. Preston?
Malcolm - To tell you the truth it all happened so fast, I thought she had him beat and was going to back away but she pushed him instead. But no I'm sure she felt she was defending herself
Grace looks intrigued
Dwyer is with Cynthia
Cynthia - Coffee Sir?
Dwyer is annoyed
Dwyer - No, I haven't come for coffee I've come to find out how all this happened here today. The roof incident is bad enough but then I hear about Murray going on the rampage, this is one hell of a scandal, worse than anything that ever happened under Craven
Cynthia is silent
Dwyer - Well Mrs. Leach? I'm waiting, how did it happen?
Cynthia - I don't know Sir, I'm sorry
Dwyer - You don't know? You're sorry? That's all you can say? Perhaps Mr. Preston should be governor? It's hard to imagine he will make a worse job of it
Cynthia - I can assure you the prisoners responsible will be severely dealt with...if you'd just give me one final chance as governor I will make amends, prove to you I am a good governor
Dwyer appears to be thinking
Dwyer - One more scandal, just one and you're out, you understand?
Cynthia - Yes Sir and thanks.......BTW is there any news on Wentworth? When it Will be fit for use again
Dwyer - yes, as a matter of fact, that was the other thing I had to tell you. Wentworth will be ready for the women tomorrow afternoon. The Wentworth women can go back then, a minibus will be here to pick them up around midday. Mrs. Reynolds and the other Wentworth staff have been informed and will be there ready for the prisoners
Cynthia - Oh good.....about Officer Henderson, the lad is out of his depth in a maximum security establishment such as this, may I ask you again to transfer him to Wentworth, please?
Dwyer nods
Dwyer - Yes I heard about his performance today, I agree Wentworth would be better suited to him
Janice is in Stud's solitary cell with him
Janice - I never knew Denson had it in for Maxwell?
Stud gives her a knowing smirk
Stud - So you heard our conversation did you?
Janice - You know the walls around here fella, they have ears
