《Malia&Khari》chapter two | khari

I looked back at those dark brown eyes that were piercing right through me. It was quite amusing because I couldn't take her seriously. I honestly didn't know her issue, but she needed to get over it. I do remember bumping into her last night, but I was already pissed off. She was just in the way.

Randy looked between the both of us with confusion in his eyes.

"Did I miss something? Y'all know each other?"

I didn't say anything. I just motioned for the waitress to come over to take my order. I was a bit thirsty so I decided to get some water. The waitress took the order and Randy's then went to give Malia a refill. I could still feel Malia's eyes on me and I looked back at her, catching her in the act. She quickly looked away to Randy and answered his question.

"No, he's just an as—rude individual." She said correcting herself.

I shrugged, taking the empty seat. Randy sat down which left Ms. Malia the only one standing.

"What'd you do?" Randy looked at me weirdly.

"She walks with bad posture which caused her to bump into me last night." I looked at him, smirking. I knew I was lying, but I knew it would get a reaction out of her. So far, I loved making her react. I enjoyed seeing her scowl at me. At that moment, she did exactly what I had wanted her to do: react.

I heard her gasp and take her seat.

"I do not have bad posture. Thank you very much." She glared at me, and flipped her long, purple hair. The color fitted her nicely especially on that soft, dark skin of hers. Randy looked in between us, and shook his head.

"Anyway." He switched the subject. "You like it here so far?" He returned his eyes on me, and leaned the table a little.

I shrugged, readjusting my hat on my head. It was better than being in New Orleans with Satan himself. After losing my mother at the age of thirteen, I had to endure six years of hell with my absent father. I bounced in and out of juvie because we constantly got into it. He always ended up pressing charges on me because nine times outta ten, he'd have structural damage somewhere. I had to leave.

"It's aight." I said. "East coast women are horrible though." I looked at Malia causing her to narrow her eyes into a slit.

He chuckled lightly and nodded. "What classes you got today?"

I took out my schedule, glancing at it. "Psychology at eleven—"

"Oh, God." Malia blurted. My gaze flickered back to her as she rubbed her temples tenderly, sighing. "Please tell me you do not have it under Dr. Sanders."

I glanced back at the paper to see who was listed as the professor. Sure enough it was Dr. Sanders. I gave her a wicked grin making her groan in displeasure. "Do not flatter yourself, sweetheart." I wagged my finger.

The waitress came back with the drinks and Malia's refill. Malia rolled her hazel iris's before taking a sip of her water. "Do not flatter yourself, sir." She wrapped her lips on her straw, and sipped her water.

In my arrogant triumph, I smirked. She was too cute to be honest. The skin she wore was a dark mocha color & blemish free. Her long, purple hair tumbled over her shoulders. She wore makeup, but it was clear that she didn't need it. I didn't mind it, though. I was glad that she was wearing it because it only enhanced her beauty. The glasses she wore have her a sexy, nerdy look. I wondered did she really need them or were they for stylish purposes only.

She noticed that I was looking at her and I didn't miss the blush on her face. "Is there something on my face?" She asked. There was nothing on her face, but pure beauty. She and I both knew that. I only smirked as I took a sip of my water.

"Well, looks like you're in good hands then kid." Randy said patting my shoulder.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed two girls inspecting me with lewd expressions. The two of them were wearing tops that were a size too small, resulting in their breasts screaming hello. I didn't need close inspection to know that one of them had a homemade tattoo on her chest. That was distasteful. If you wanted a tattoo so bad, you could've went to a professional. Both of them girls were just foul causing me to shake my head in dissatisfaction. The chase is never fun when they are desperate.

"La familia." I heard someone say as I returned my attention back to the table.

"Wassup Elgin and Kaleigh?" Randy greeted as he did a handshake with the guy who'd walked in with the gorgeous girl on his arms. The guy standing before me..he was a funny looking guy with his high top fade and extensive forehead. For his height, he was pretty scrawny. His light skin wasn't really light, more of a reddish color. It made me wonder what she saw in him, but that was none of my business. I quickly picked up a negative vibe from him. I'm not sure why or how, but I did.

"Hey Malia." He said giving her a brief hug, but I didn't miss the salacious look that past through his weird colored eyes. Malia was oblivious, of course. She just returned the favor and hugged the girl who was with him as well.

"Who's this?" The guy Elgin pointed at me.

"Oh my bad. This is one of my best friends, Khari." Randy said as he placed his hand on my shoulder.

Elgin looked between us awkwardly before introducing himself. "Well, I'm Elgin and this is my girl Kaleigh."

"Hello, Khari." She said with a heavy Nigerian accent.

I gave him a head nod and looked back at Kaleigh. "Hello."

"You from here bro?" Elgin pursued as they took a seat at the table.

"He's clearly from New Orleans. Did you not catch his accent?" Kaleigh looked at him.

He looked at her and looked back at me, lifting his eyebrow. "It's a lot of violence down that way. I got family there. I'm sure you know all about that, though. Looks like you've done time yourself." He said slyly.

"Elgin!" Kaleigh said, popping him on the back of his head.

"What?! I'm just being honest. Damn girl."

I didn't say anything because if I did, it wouldn't have been pretty. I tend to say things that are out of line because my mouth is a bit dirty. I'm not here to impress no rich kid, but I don't have time for the foolishness either. I can't lose my basketball scholarship over this shit. Kids like him always think they're better than people like me.

It was a long silence after that. I hope they didn't expect me to say anything because I wasn't. At this point, I didn't even want to be here anymore. I was only here for Randy. I actually couldn't believe that he'd associated himself with some brats. Rich brats at that. I was disappointed.

"You're a transfer?" Kaleigh spoke up while she fidgeted with the scrawny kid's fingers.

I took a deep breath before answering her question. "Well, not really. I'm a first time freshman. I sat out a year after graduating high school." I explained.

She nodded, seemingly understanding. I'd only sat out that year to build my funds so I could permanently move out of my sperm donor's house.

"Welcome to Georgetown University." She flashed a radiant smile.

Elgin glanced over at Malia, who was really quiet. "Why you so quiet over there, Lia?"

She lifted her eyes from her book that I didn't know she'd took out.

"Nothing, just reading."

I glanced at the cover seeing that she was reading Roots. It was a good read.

"Why you read stuff like that?" Elgin said. He caught a side eye from Kaleigh and a lifted eyebrow from Malia.

"Why you don't?" I blurted out.

He looked at me like he was caught off guard. In fact, everyone did.

"Who said I didn't?" He challenged.

"You." I shrugged.

"Who is this guy?" He looked at Randy.

Randy looked up from his phone indicating that he wasn't even paying attention.

"My homeboy from New Orleans." He said glancing back down at his phone.

I decided to leave El oh El alone and mess with Randy.

"She got you whipped." I quipped.

"Man, she ain't got me whipped. It ain't even that serious." He scoffed.

"That's not what you told me earlier, Randy." Malia smirked causing Randy to glare playfully at her.

He didn't have to play it off.

"If you in love with your girl then be in love. Don't worry about what other people say, including myself." I looked at him.

"Yes. What he said." Malia agreed.

I looked back at her, lifting my eyebrow. "Malia agrees with me."

She blushed again. "You finally made sense."

Kaleigh cleared her throat, motioning Malia to follow her to the restroom.

"We'll be back." She announced then pulling Malia to the back.

Once they were out of sight, Elgin leaned forward.

"Don't ever do that again bro. You better be lucky my girl was sitting right there or I promise I would've knocked yo ass out." He gritted through his teeth.

"Damn, chill man. You always tryna fight somebody. Gonna get yo ass kicked out of school." Randy berated.

My eyes never left Elgin's and I started to clench my jaw. I sent a punch right on his face landing on the center of his nose. I heard it crack as soon as it landed. He fell back out of the chair, holding his nose while keeping his glare on me. I was now standing up waiting for him to get up so I could finish the job.

"Yo Khari, chill!" Randy stood up abruptly to hold me back.

Elgin got up and looked at me a little longer.

"This ain't over." He glared at me.

"What happened?!" Kaleigh ran over to his aid. He walked back, holding his nose.

"You all bark no talk! Bring that ass here kid!" I snarled, feeling my veins popping out of my head. My breathing increased drastically causing my skin to boil.

I could see Malia staring at me in pure horror. As I looked around the restaurant, everyone else shared the same look. I brushed past Randy, storming out of the restaurant. Once I was outside, I released the breath I was holding in. Elgin really had the game twisted thinking he could talk to me like that. He didn't know me.

Nobody did.
