《Hazelnut - Ryeji》12

"Wow! It's so big in here!" Yeji yelled like a child while looking around the hotel.
I was a little dizzy because of the 2 hour train ride and Yeji and I spent almost the entire day walking around the streets of Gwangju and eating random foods. Yeji is always hungry and I am a little baffled that she's not gaining any weight.
My eyes wandered around the hotel while Yeji walked towards the receptionist to get us a room.
The hotel was big. It looked like a mall. The walls were covered with white wallpaper that had cute flower-like patterns on it. There were many people walking around with their families and luggages and there was jazz music playing in the background that made me a little relaxed.
"What?!" Yeji suddenly yelled that made me snap out of my thoughts.
I quickly went back to reality and I switched my attention to Yeji who was standing by the reception. Yeji was holding her head with her hands and her hair was a little messy.
I didn't know what was going on. Yeji looked so frustrated. The receptionist and other hotel staff members were looking at Yeji with a terrified look on their faces.
I slowly walked towards Yeji with a puzzled look on my face. "Yeji?" I weakly said. "What's going on?"
Yeji turned around and her eyes made me feel a little intimidated.
She looked like an angry cat.
Yeji gritted her teeth while glaring at me with her scary eyes. Her fists were clenched and she looked like she wanted to kill someone.
As I approached Yeji, I let out a small smile at her. "What's wrong?"
Yeji fixed her beanie and pouted. "They have no snacks in the hotel room!" Yeji yelled and started fake crying.
I sighed and I crossed my arms. "Gosh, I thought we were in trouble." I said.
Yeji looked at me with her puppy eyes. "I paid so much money for our hotel room, but they don't have snacks. I guess we still have to go outside to buy some." She faced the ground with sadness.
I chuckled and showed Yeji the paper bag I was holding. "Don't worry. I have snacks with me."
Yeji's world lit up. She slowly faced me with a smile on her face and looked at me in the eyes. "Awesome!"
Yeji was like a child. She reminded me a lot of my sister Yuna. They have the same personalities and they eat a lot, but don't gain weight.
Yeji connected her arms with me that caught me off guard. "Let's go to our hotel room!"
--
"How did you convince your parents to go on a trip with me? do they even know me?" I asked while sitting down on the soft bed in our hotel room.

Yeji let out a chuckle while fixing her clothes and her other stuff. "It's easy to convince my parents. They quickly agree when I tell them that I want to do something before I die." She said. "And I told them that I'm going on a trip with Chaeryeong and Lia."
"Oh." I replied.
Yeji stood up from her chair and carried her clothes and a towel. "How about you? is everything fine with your family?" Yeji asked.
A smile slowly formed on my face. "Yeah. I think my parents are getting back together." I said with a hint of happiness.
Yeji gave me a pat on the head. "That's good news, Ryujin." She said.
Yeji straightened her back and started stretching her limbs while yawning. She looked a little tired so I started thinking about a game we can play.
Yeji put her towel on her shoulder and smiled at me. "Ryujin, I'm taking a quick bath, okay?"
I nodded. "Alright. You will come back, right?" I jokingly asked.
Yeji let out a small laugh. "Of course, silly. It's not like someone's gonna stab me on the chest or something." Yeji said.
I chuckled and stood up from the bed. "You should take a bath." I said.
--
"What are we going to play? I'm bored." Yeji pouted while sitting on the floor besides me and looking at the mountain of snacks in front of her.
I started tapping my chin with my index finger while thinking. All of the games I know are all physical and requires a lot of energy. I couldn't think of a game where you can just sit down, but have fun.
"I don't know." I pouted.
I looked at Yeji and I let out a small smile while looking at her side profile. Her hair was still a little wet and I find her pouty lips adorable. She has the entire universe in her eyes.
Suddenly, a light bulb lit up on top of Yeji's head. She looked at me and she looked a little excited. "Ryujin, let's play a game of truth or dare!"
The happiness on my face dissolved into a bored look. "That is so boring, no offense."
"Don't worry. I bought some beer!" Yeji pointed at the plastic bag sitting besides her bag.
My jaw dropped to the ground. "Hey, we're only 17. We're not allowed to drink."
Yeji stood up and walked towards the plastic bag. "It's just the two of us."
I crossed my arms and furrowed my eyebrows. "No way. I am not drinking beer."
Yeji carried the plastic bag. "Pwease." She looked at me with her puppy eyes. "You used to smoke, Ryujin. Smoking is like drinking!"

I nodded at her. "Alright. Let's drink." I said.
"Awesome!" Yeji dashed towards me and sat down besides me. She took out 2 bottles of beer from the plastic bag she was holding and carefully placed it on the ground.
Yeji sat down properly and faced me. "First, we will play rock-paper-scissors." Yeji said while sitting across me.
I faced Yeji and I nodded. "Alright." I clenched my fist and I pointed it at her.
Yeji clenched her fist and pointed it at my fist. Without hesitation, Yeji said, "Rock-paper-scissors!"
As I heard those words, I raised my fist and I opened my palm. I smiled and showed Yeji that what I picked is paper.
The smile on my face dissolved into a sad look when Yeji's hand was in the form of a scissor.
"I lost." I said and pouted.
Yeji giggled like an evil person. "Truth or dare?"
I couldn't think of an answer. I figured that if I pick truth, Yeji will ask me something foolish. If I pick dare, Yeji will make me do something foolish.
I inhaled and exhaled sharply. "Alright. Dare." I said.
Yeji picked up a bottle of beer and shoved it to my face. "I dare you to drink some of that."
I sighed and I took the beer from Yeji's hand.
I stood up from the ground and I looked at the table behind me. I put the beer cap on the edge of the table and I slammed it making it go off.
I looked at the cold beer I was holding. I gulped a little bit.
"Are you scared?" Yeji asked in a cocky way.
I tightly held the bottle as I shook my head. "No." Without hesitation, I put the opening of the beer on my mouth and I started drinking.
As the beer touched my taste buds, I felt a little nauseous because of the horrible taste. It was sour, sweet, and bitter. It tasted like shit.
I was only drinking for a few seconds and I already feel like vomiting. I couldn't handle the taste anymore so I took away the beer and I aggressively placed it on the table out of frustration.
My head started to ache and my entire body was burning. "Is this the feeling of being drunk?" I asked and sat down on the ground.
Yeji chuckled and pointed her clenched fist at me. "One more time."
I nodded and I let out a burp that tastes like sewer water. "Okay." I clenched my fist and pointed it at Yeji while holding my head with my other hand.
"Rock-paper-scissors!"
As I heard those words, I raised my fist, but its form didn't change. It was still a clenched fist and I showed it to Yeji telling her that I picked rock.
The frustrated look on my face formed into a smile when Yeji showed me her hand that is in the form of a scissor.
"You really like scissors, huh?" I scoffed.
Yeji let out a small chuckle. "Y-yeah. I guess." She shyly said.
"Truth or dare?" I asked while looking at her with a serious face.
"Dare." Yeji said without hesitation.
I pointed at the unopened bottle of beer on the ground. "I dare you to drink all of that!" I yelled.
Yeji grabbed the bottle of beer and stood up from the ground. Yeji walked towards the table and placed the beer cap on the edge of the table and slammed it that startled me.
"Alright. All of it?" Yeji looked at the bottle.
I nodded. "Yeah."
Without hesitation, Yeji started drinking.
She wasn't stopping. She was already halfway into the bottle, but she's still not stopping. My jaw dropped to the earth's core as I was astonished by Yeji.
As Yeji finished the bottle, she yelled, "Done!" She slammed the bottle on the table.
I gulped while looking at Yeji.
'Oh no.'
--
"I'm so drunk!" Yeji yelled while lying down on the bed.
I chuckled while sitting down and scrolling through my phone. I was completely sober, but Yeji is still drunk and talking like an insane person. We played truth or dare for an hour.
Honestly, we didn't even play truth or dare. It was literally a challenge on who can drink the most.
"Ryujin, truth or dare?" Yeji asked me that destroyed the silence.
I stopped what I was doing and placed my phone on the table. I thought that Yeji will tell me something interesting. "I won't pick dare. This time, I will pick truth." I said.
Yeji chuckled weakly. She went completely silent that made me a little confused. She looked like she wanted to say something, but she's hesitating.
"W-what if I told you that I'm scared of d-dying? What'll you do?" She weakly asked.
I was caught off guard by Yeji's question. It wasn't a random question or a foolish question. It was a question of reality.
I stood up from my seat and placed my hands behind my back as I walked towards Yeji. "Don't worry."
"I'm scared." Yeji said with a voice crack. She sounds like she's on the verge of crying.
I sat down on the bed.
"I will always stay by your side, Yeji. I promise that."

I have been absolutely delighted to see such a positive response to this (On Scribble Hub) and have decided to continue Talo's story. I have several ideas about this and will be twining her story into the novels as I figure it out. I am very much a Pantser so I have no idea how this will play out. I hope you enjoy the ride as we explore these concepts.
