"Marcy? Marcy!"

Marcy woke with a start, heart pounding in their chest. They looked around and quickly realized that they weren't in their bedroom, rather, they were in Anne's bedroom. Anne and Sasha were staring down at them expectantly, worry in their eyes.

"Why do you guys look like that?"

Sasha looked taken aback, letting out a dramatic gasp. "Uh, rude. I look great. You, on the other hand, looked like you were about to have a panic attack- in your sleep!"

Anne chimed in, shooting a playful glare at Sasha. "You fell asleep during our movie. Is everything okay, Marce? You looked like you were having a nightmare."

Marcy groaned and sat up, their head pulsing with an oncoming headache. "I'm fine, I'm fine. Just tired from studying, my dad's been extra harsh about grades lately" they muttered, rubbing their temples. Even with the reassurance, Anne and Sasha continued to stare at them nervously, silently hoping for more information.

When Marcy said nothing and tiredly slumped over, eyes drooping once more, Sasha scooted closer and began peppering their face with kisses.

"Sasha! What are you doing?" Marcy giggled, eyes wide open now as they tried to shove Sasha off.

"Stop... falling... asleep!" She shouted, batting Marcy's hands away as they tried to push her away.

"Wow, super mature, you guys" Anne smirked, watching the two play-fight from the other side of the bed. She quickly realized her mistake when both Marcy and Sasha turned their attention to her, smiling wide.

"Aw, are you jealous, Anne?" The blonde teased. Marcy giggled behind her. Despite her protests, Sasha practically launched herself at Anne, covering her face with kisses and laughing.

The next time Marcy had nearly fallen asleep, they were in school. The three were sitting in their Science class, one of Marcy's favorites- which is why it was so concerning when Anne and Sasha noticed them beginning to doze off, head resting on the palm of their hand. They had only written a few sentences down before dropping their pencil and closing their eyes, notes long forgotten.

Anne frowned and gently nudged Marcy. They woke instantly, grabbing their pencil and continuing to write as if they'd been doing so the entire time. Anne decided to brush it off, but shared a troubled look with Sasha before returning to her work.

Marcy noticed and sat up straighter, but kept quiet.

The third time it happened was during a game of Vagabondia Chronicals, one that Marcy had forced Sasha and Anne to play. Anne quickly noticed when she realized Marcy wasn't winning anymore, hardly moving their controller as they fought sleep.

"Marce, you're falling asleep... again. Didn't you want to play?"

Marcy sat upright, looking from their controller to Anne. "Hm?"

"The game? I thought you-"

"Oh! I did want to play! Frog, sorry, I didn't even realize I was so tired!" They laughed nervously, trying their best to turn the attention back to the game. Sasha and Anne stared at them, concerned, and paused the game.

"Marcy, you're exhausted."

"I'm not exhausted. I'm just a little tired cause my dad made me study a ton last night, like I've been saying. It's not a big deal" They replied, unpausing the game again. They avoided their girlfriends' gazes as they continued to play the game, ignoring the fact that Anne and Sasha were still staring at them.

"Marcy." Sasha paused the game for the second time, looking them in the eye. Marcy averted their gaze as soon as they caught the look on her face, setting their controller down and pulling their knees to their chest.

"It's really not a big deal, I don't think-"

"It is a big deal!" Anne interrupted. "We're worried, Marcy! How long has it been since you've gotten real sleep? I'm talking over five hours."

"I uh, I don't remember. A week ago...?"

Anne sighed deeply and turned off the game. "You're gonna sleep whether you want to or not. It's Saturday, so you don't have to study, right?"

"Anne, I'm okay, really. I don't need to- hey!" Marcy exclaimed as Sasha casually picked them up, collapsing onto the bed with them.

"Ugh, Sash! You're crushing me! Get off!" Marcy laughed, trying desperately to shove the blonde off of them.

"No can do. Not until you agree to get some sleep." Sasha smirked, Anne laughing behind her.

"I'll sleep, I'll sleep! Now get off, you're heavy!"

Sasha shared a high-five with Anne as Marcy groaned in defeat. "You guys suck."

"Aw, you know you love us" Anne added. Marcy rolled their eyes, but patted the space on the bed next to them, am invitation to cuddle. Sasha and Anne climbed under the blankets on either side, squishing Marcy in the middle, who began to fall asleep almost immediately with a sigh of content.

"Don't you think it's time to say goodbye to those childhood friends of yours?"

Marcy stared at the darkness around them, searching for the voice's source. As if it were answering, the Night began to take form before them, continuing to speak.

"Once we finish what we started, you won't have to worry about them any longer. You won't have to think about how you betrayed them, how you ruined their trust."

Marcy stared blankly at the figure, trying to stand. Their legs gave out underneath them, pain shooting through their chest in an instant as they sunk back down to the floor.

"Please, don't hurt them", they cried out. "I don't care if they hate me, I just- I don't want to hurt them anymore than I already have! You can do anything, just don't touch them!"

The Night simply laughed, watching as Marcy continued to make an attempt to stand. With the extent of their injuries, however, there was no use trying. The Night kept them alive, but it certainly didn't heal their injuries. Marcy could still feel the sword in their chest, the sound of fire scorching flesh replying in their mind. They could still picture the look of complete horror on Anne's face, followed by a bright flash of light. And then, nothing.

They had woken up days later, their whole body aching in pure agony. They were sure it was the worst pain they'd ever endured. They would spend days at a time, floating in nothingness with nothing but their own thoughts.

Those, however, were the better days. It only got worse when the Night showed up, teasing and taunting them until they cracked under the pressure. Occasionally, the Night would even show them images, hallucinations, of Anne and Sasha.

Marcy was snapped from their thoughts by a kick to the stomach, hunching over in pain.

"I said, are you ready?"

"Ready... for what?" Marcy whispered.

"It seems Strength has come to your 'rescue'."

"Please don't hurt her", Marcy pleaded. The Night laughed once more and shook its head, but said nothing. Marcy knew their pleas wouldn't do anything, but they didn't know what else to do.

They felt their body move, and they heard themselves laugh. They knew it wasn't truly them; they knew it was the Night controlling them, but Sasha surely wouldn't know.

They fought for what felt like hours, each movement sending pure fire through Marcy's veins. They were begging, pleading, for the fight to end.

And then their sword made contact with Sasha's eye.

Marcy screamed.

They screamed and thrashed, hot tears flowing down their cheeks as they tried desperately to make it stop. They felt multiple pairs of hands on their shoulders and panicked voices, but they couldn't register any of it.

"Im sorry, I'm so sorry, please don't hurt her!" Marcy cried out, struggling to find air.

"Marcy! Marcy, you're okay! You're here, we're all safe!" Sasha said, gently wiping their tears. Marcy continued to gasp for air, sobs ripping through their throat.

"I hurt you, I didn't mean to! I didn't want to!"

"Marce, hey, you're okay, Sasha's okay, see? She's right here! You're home!" Anne murmured. Marcy trembled in her embrace, tugging their hair.

"Her eye, she's- it's my fault-"

"Hey, hey, it's okay, Marce. It isn't your fault. I know that thing wasn't you, I knew from the start. I'm okay, Marbles" Sasha whispered, playing with Marcy's hair as they began to steady their breathing.

Anne and Sasha continued to hold Marcy, whispering comforting words and reassurances, until Marcy spoke up through a shaky voice.

"My dad wasn't making me study. No, well, he was. But that's not why I wasn't sleeping."

"Because of nightmares?" Anne asked. Marcy nodded weakly, sniffing.

"I've been having them since we came home, you guys know that. But they're getting worse, they're getting so much worse. I keep seeing myself hurting you guys, over and over. And it isn't just that. I'll relive everything that happened, constantly. I don't sleep because I'm horrified of seeing it all again, and when I actually do sleep, I'm woken up by nightmares." Marcy whispered, leaning into their girlfriends' embrace. They could feel their eyes drooping with exhaustion.

"We're here, Marce. Even if there isn't a lot we can do, we're here, and we're safe. None of it was your fault." Anne hugged them tighter, eyes watering.

Marcy nodded tiredly. "I love you", they whispered, barely audible.

Sasha smiled. "We love you too, Marcy."
