《His Heart's Desire (Book 2 in His Heart's Series)》Chapter 8

"Your daddy heard everything I said to your brother. I should be mad, but I would be a hypocrite if I did. I eavesdropped on his conversation with you two, so I guess that makes us even," I said.
Jaydan kicked both his legs and squealed.
I laughed.
"You know, in spite of everything that went on between your daddy and I, he's a good man. I can already see the love he has for you and your brother, shining in his eyes. I have no doubt that he will do anything in his power to always protect and care for the two of you. And to me? That's all that matters," I said before leaning down to kiss Jaydan on his head.
Jaydan's eyes fluttered close.
I snickered. My baby boy must be really tired.
After rearranging my clothes, and checking if Jaydan needs some diaper change, I gave Jaydan a soft and tender kiss on the top of his head. Then I walked over to the Jaydan's playpen and carefully placed him on his back. I smooth his hair back before turning on the monitor to go and check on Jarred.
I look at my baby boy one last time, before I head back out into the living room.
I found Lucas holding Jarred on his lap, facing him as he talked to him animatedly.
I couldn't stop the smile that graced my lips, nor could I control my heart from fluttering inside my chest.
"Are you just going to stand there, or are you going to join us?" He asked with a teasing and playful tone.
I chuckled softly and walked over to them.
"Did Jaydan fall asleep?" He asked.
I nodded. "Yeah. He's tired. He was fuzzy the night before and didn't get much sleep. Then he lost some nap time. We'll just have to put him back on schedule tomorrow."
He nodded. "This little guy here is still going though. He's got so much energy."
"Yes he does," I agreed. I'm really surprised at how quickly the boys took to him. The twins are usually aloof with strangers. It takes them awhile to feel comfortable with new people.
"I can't believe how taken the boys are with you at such a short amount of time..." I started to say then I realized how this must sound to Lucas because he is after all their father, and it was my fault he lost almost a year and a half with the twins'.
I immediately apologized. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. I swear Lucas. I wasn't thinking..."
He shook his head. "It's okay. Look it's still hard when I think about all that I've missed but being angry or blaming you won't help. It's done, and I have them in my life now, and that's what I want to focus on," he said. "Look, I promised I would try my hardest to leave our past behind us, and I will," he smiled. "I don't want you to tread lightly around me. I most definitely don't want you to be afraid of telling me stories about before and after the twins' birth, in fear of offending me. I won't be offended. In fact, I'd love to hear about all the stories you have."

I smiled gratefully at him. "Thank you. I must warn you though, I have tons of stories and you're ears will probably bleed with all the stories I have for you," I teased.
He laughed. "I'd love every single one of them, and I'll gladly let my ears bleed listening to you tell me about our boys."
Suddenly Jarred's hands slapped his cheeks as he tried to get Lucas' attention.
I chuckled. "He does that a lot," I said.
"I noticed," he said as he cooed over Jarred giving him his undivided attention.
Love for our son shone in his eyes.
Pain gripped my chest, squeezing it tight, making it hard to breathe.
He may have not loved me enough when we were together, but at least I can count on him loving the boys completely. He's already an amazing dad to our boys in such a short amount of time. And that's enough for me.
I felt the atmosphere change between Livie and I. It was subtle, but definitely palpable.
I pushed it aside and focused on Jarred.
After a few more minutes, Jarred started getting fuzzy which means he's tired and ready for bed.
"I guess we should put him to bed," I said. "Will you be feeding him again?" I asked.
"No. He's good," Livie said.
I nodded. "Okay..."
She offered me a small smile. "Here, come on, let's get him ready for bed together," Livie said, as she walked towards the bedroom. "We'll skip bath time tonight," she said.
"Do you give them a bath every night?" I asked.
She nodded. "Yes. I give them a bath every night, right before I go to work. It's one of our bonding moments," she said with so much love, I couldn't help the smile that graced mouth.
"We'll save that for tomorrow night. Our schedule was kind of crazy today, but that's okay. It happens."
"Do you want to change his diaper?" She asked with mischief and twinkle in her eyes.
She's testing me. Checking if I'm one of those guys who shies away from diaper duty.
We'll bring it on, Miss Lazos!
"Sure," I said.
And her eyes widen in surprise, then she smiled wickedly. "Alright then. I'll leave you to it," she said. "Here," she said as she pulled out a diaper from the bag. "You can change him here," she said as she patted the changing sheet on the bed.
I shrugged.
Alright then. This shouldn't be hard. It's just a diaper... Nothing hard about this at all.
You run a damn chain of hotel and resort all over the world. Changing your son's diaper shouldn't be hard, I told myself.
"You might want to do it on the floor. You don't know what you're dealing with," Livie said. "Things could get messy," she added as she tried to hide her smile.

"Right. I was going to do that," I muttered.
"Of course," she said as she tried so hard not to laugh.
Ok. How the hell do I do this, while holding the baby?
Just fucking do it, Henderson! It's not rocket science!
I grabbed the changing sheet on the bed. I got on my knees, and tried to lay down the sheet with one hand, while I continue to hold Jarred in my other arm.
Damn it.
I have to continuously stop myself from glancing over at Livie. I know that she finds all of this amusing.
"You can always put him down you know. I mean, while you fix the sheet," she offered.
I scowled at her. "I know what I'm doing, thank you very much."
The corner of her lips twitch.
Once I got the sheet ready, I lay Jarred on his back on top of the sheet.
I easily unbutton the onesies he's wearing, and I could already tell that he definitely has poop in his diaper, judging by the smell, once I unbutton his onesies at the bottom, revealing his diaper.
Crap! Okay. What do I do next?
Wipes!
Yes. That's right. I need some wiped.
I look around to see if I can find them.
"Looking for this?" I heard Livie ask as she dangled the wiped in front of me.
I ignore the humour in her beautiful face. "Yes. Thanks," I said.
"No problem. Want any help?" She offered.
"I've got it," I said.
"Okay then. I'll just sit here and let you do your thing," she said.
The little minx had the nerve to sit on the chair.
She crossed her legs and folded her arms across her chest.
She's enjoying this. Laugh all you want now, Livie. You wouldn't be laughing, once I have you in my bed.
In fact. I can guarantee, you'll be wreathing underneath me, and the only sound that will come out of your sexy mouth are your moans; and the only words that you will utter are, "Yes Lucas." "Harder Lucas." "More Lucas."
I shook myself out of my thoughts.
Jarred.
Diaper.
Right! I said to myself... Jarred's diaper.
I braced myself and took a deep breath.
I unclasped the tab on his diaper, and was shocked to see how much poop he has.
Holy shit! How can so much shit, come out of such a small person?
I heard Livie laugh.
I look up at her, to find her snapping pictures.
"Hey!" I scowled at her.
She laughed harder. "Oh god, Lucas. You should have seen your face," she said through her laughter. "Now I've got proof," she waved her phone in her hand.
I scowled and glared at her at first. Then I realized just how funny the situation is, and found myself laughing as well. "I swear, how can so much sh...crap come out of such a small person?" I asked, my voice laced with laughter.
Jarred squealed in delight as well.
"You're a poop monster, you know that!" I said to my son, and he just grinned at me.
"Are you willing to accept my help now?" Livie asked.
"Are you sure you want to help me? You seem to be enjoying yourself at my expense," I teased.
She laughed. "I'll help you this time... But next time, you're on your own," she said causing me to laugh.
"Deal," I said.
After cleaning Jarred up and changing his diaper, we changed his onesies too. After what seemed like forever, he's finally ready for bed.
Livie makes it look easy. Here I am, I own chains of hotels and resorts all over the world, and I can't even change a fucking diaper, and Livie has been doing this by herself for over a year. Two babies at that, and she manages just fine.
"Hey," Livie's voice broke through my thoughts. "Want to put him to bed?" She asked.
I nodded and took Jarred in my arms.
I walk over to his play pen, with Livie trailing beside us.
I kissed my son goodnight, and so did Livie.
"Goodnight, my son. I love you. Sleep well and dream of the sweetest dreams," I said as I caressed the top of his head and his soft chubby cheeks.
I lay Jarred on his back, and walk over to his brother's playpen, sitting next to him.
I bent down and caressed Jaydan's soft chubby cheeks, and smoothed his hair back. Goodnight, my son. I love you. Sleep well and dream of the sweetest dreams."
I look at my sons one last time and smiled.
I turned around to find Livie watching me. Our eyes meet and I was surprised to see tears shining in her eyes.
"Livie..." I whispered huskily, before I pulled her into my arms and kissed her.
