《Real Life Paranormal Experiences Part 1》Replacement

I guess it's safe to say that most people in our country, the Filipinos, are firm believers in myths, proverbs, sayings, and all things supernatural. It's part of our culture. But I have never been one with them. I never believe in anything I don't see — whether it be supernatural or religious or anything. Seeing is believing.
Yet, I somehow had second thoughts when I encountered something and have seen them with my own eyes.
When I was a sophomore in high school, me and my friends were going to a practice during the weekend for a school dance. All of us were at our meeting place at our agreed time. Except for one of my friends — and for censor purposes, I'm just going to call him Ethan.
After half an hour, we decided to go pick Ethan up at his house. We didn't want to — in fact, we were pissed at him by then for making us wait — but the dance wouldn't work with one person down.
We got up to the street to where he lives. We haven't made it all the way to his house when we already saw him hanging by the nearby lamp post. We stormed to him and we're all like, "What the hell, Ethan? What are you standing there for?" He didn't say anything and just let us finish ranting. He didn't defend himself or anything. He just let us yell at him. After, he said nothing. So we turned around and started walking away. After a few steps, we realized he wasn't coming with us.
"What is up with you today, man?" one of my guy friend's said exasperatedly as he grabbed his wrist and made him walk with us. He obliged without any words and then we were off.

The whole walk back to the place, Ethan was quiet. He stood and walked in the middle of us with a neutral face and not saying a word. None of us minded since, as said, we were still pissed at him. We didn't notice anything peculiar.
The moment we arrived, he immediately went out somewhere in the corridor. We all thought he was just going to go to the bathroom — he wasn't speaking to any us so we let him be. We thought it was pretty hypocrite of him to be mad at us for yelling at him when it was his fault in the first place.
Yet, as seconds and minutes turned into a whole hour of him not returning, we had it. The boys from our group said they'd look around the building for him. Us girls agreed and we waited at the hall room.
After a few minutes, my phone went on, indicating a message. I fished it out my pocket and my whole body froze at what I read. Written there was a text message from Ethan's number saying:
Guys, I'm really sorry I can't make it. My mom grounded me. I tried to sneak out but I couldn't outsmart her. Now I got double grounded. I guess you're going to have to replace me.
In that exact moment, the boys came back to the hall and said they checked everywhere but found no signs of Ethan. Still in shock, with my throat dry, and my whole body cold, I made everyone read the message.
Everyone were in the same state as I was. Yet, with every not logical moment, there will always be a sort of doubt that we might not be thinking rationally. We thought he might just be playing a prank on us.

So, to be sure, we went back to his house. And that second time, we made sure to reach exactly his house, not just down the street. We rang the doorbell and when his mom answered and saw it was us, her face immediately scrunched with annoyance, "Ethan is not allowed to go outside."
Ethan popped behind his mom, wearing nothing like the clothes we saw him wearing earlier, with an embarrassed face as he mouthed, "Sorry."
It was as if everything stopped. We wanted to think that his mom was on this prank or something. But judging her very serious face, we knew it was no joke.
We then explained what just happened to us earlier that day in fright. Ethan's mom's face softened and was replaced with what I could tell as fear. She made us go inside to tell the story more detailed.
We found out the Ethan never stepped one foot out the house that day. He stayed in the house cleaning with his mom. But we knew who we saw, we knew who we were with, it was Ethan. And as the thought came back to my mind, a trail of chills rushed through me. If it wasn't Ethan we were with earlier, who was?

The Last Orellen (An Epic Progression Fantasy)
According to prophecy, the ninth-born child of Lord Orellen will have the sort of power that changes the world. But in a land ruled by mage families, no one welcomes the possibility of a dangerous new player. Fearful even of their allies, the Orellens come up with an extraordinary and deadly scheme to protect themselves. If the most powerful sorcerers in the world wish to kill the ninth-born, they will have to find him or her first. And that's not going to be easy when the Orellens have called upon dark magic to create hundreds of heirs. The boys and girls are given new bodies, new names, and even new magical talents before they are scattered across the continent. Only one among them is the real ninth, but all of them will have to grow up in a world where they are fugitives. Kalen, once fated to die, is now an Orellen heir in hiding. And he is determined to survive, even if he has to master his strange new powers to do it. The Last Orellen is a long, character-focused progression fantasy set in a vast universe about a boy's journey to become a powerful mage. Reviews are deeply appreciated. Please do not repost my work elsewhere without my written permission. What type of reader is this book for? You might enjoy The Last Orellen if you like... Clever and resourceful protagonists. Big fantasy worlds. Multiple cultures, lots of characters, many different types of magic--this story is expansive rather than closely focused on a narrow storyline. Progression fantasy that takes its time. Our main character will be progressing through magical ranks, but this is going to be a lengthy story. If you're more about the journey than the destination, this might be the book for you. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Paths of the Chosen (Rewritten, Revised, and Reinvigorated)
Daniel Stewart was chosen to alpha test a brand new Immersive VR game, "The Realms". What he doesn't know is that he has also been Chosen by one of the Powers of a far-off world, and is now a pawn in a game much bigger than any he thought he would ever participate in. Will he survive and thrive in this strange new world, or will he stumble and fall, shattered by the ambitions of another? Does he have what it takes to walk the Paths of the Chosen?---Inspired by the Chaos Seeds novels, TheDespaxas's The Gamer, and a wide variety of games and books, although the world, characters, and systems are my own. Expect high fantasy, magic, combat and intrigue, love and loss, grief and passion. This story is intended for adult audiences and contains explicit sexual content, profanity, and violence (including sexual violence, although not by the protagonist and not as a focus of the story). Chapters with such content will be clearly marked, and all explicit sexual content will be behind spoiler tags. I prefer my stories to have happy endings, and especially in these uncertain times, I feel that it is important to maintain hope. While this tale will reach some dark places, I promise to you that, when all is said and done, the villains will be justly punished and the heroes will prevail and prosper. Remember: it is darkest before dawn, but dawn always comes. Please note also that although this story does not have the [Harem] tag, it does have an extremely slow build into a polyamorous relationship. Additionally, starting with Champion (book two of the series), the [Multiple Lead Characters], [Female Lead], and [Non-Human Lead] tags would also apply to varying degrees. This is a complete, ground-up rewrite of the original Paths of the Chosen, following feedback from here and elsewhere. It is now written in the third-person limited omniscient perspective and in the past tense. In addition, while the major plot beats are unchanged, most of what comes between them has been reconsidered and rewritten, with pacing and characterization as a special focus.---Update schedule: 2 chapters per week (Monday and Thursday), not counting bonus chapters. Chapter length is roughly 2,500 words on average, +/- 1,000 words. Chapters with explicit content tend to be longer so that they are still worth reading for those who would prefer a fade to black. --- Cover art by Agri Karuniawan (@artofagri). The Complete Alchemyst book 1
You've heard of superheroes, seen them flying across the sky, destroying great swaths of cities and ending countless innocent lives in order to defeat great evils and world-spanning threats and sell lots of sponsorships and merchandising opportunities. This is a story about the guy that is not those heroes. A supervillain in a world where making the right friends and political contacts is what separates the good guys from the bad. The Alchemyst is a story about a normal guy in a crazy world that spends his time trying to follow his dreams and conscience, working on new potions, thinking about girls, and lifting heavy shit, while trying to stay under the radar of the superheroes, supervillains, and governments that want what he can do. And occasionally turning them into makeshift melee weapons. If you enjoy The Boys, the Aberrant roleplaying game, Mystery Men, Trashy romances, Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, or SAW you may enjoy this book. Please note that this book has extremely graphic and sometimes gross fight scenes, heroes as villains, villains as heroes, opinionated and often politically incorrect characters, some graphic sex scenes, dad jokes, dirty jokes, realistic depictions of romance and flirting, bondage and dominance themes, and more than a few cuss words when they are really appropriate. This is NOT a superhero genre deconstruction. Many heroes truly are heroes, and they don't all need to be destroyed to make a good story, but it does look into the dark side of superpowers and the unreasonable and often contradictory demands placed on exceptional people.
