《Real Life Paranormal Experiences Part 1》Unexplained Footsteps

This incident happened to me at around the age of eight years old, and everything has been fine ever since.
When I was a little girl, back when my dog Louie was still alive, I had suddenly woken up. There was no dream, no sound, nothing to wake me up. I had turned on the light in my room, and both of my dogs were with in there room with me. This surprised me as whenever the door is open, they have usually left the room. I had noticed no lights were on and there wasn't a sound in the house. Everyone was sound asleep and aside from my dogs, I was the only one up.
When I wake up, I usually go and get some water (and keep in mind this is before I had a phone with a flashlight), so I had decided to go get some. I called out to my dogs, wanting at least one of them to come with me since I wasn't comfortable alone. My dog Maddy was a little older than a puppy, and was always eager to go with me places, so it seemed strange that she laid there, glancing at me uneasily, not even daring to stand.
I started calling out to Louie, and after a while of reluctance and more calling on my part, he finally stood and went downstairs with me. My basement door is in front of our kitchen and not far from the stairs, so on my way to the kitchen, I noticed Louie's reluctance once more. Our basement door was open as it usually was, and he stopped before it, not daring to cross paths with the opening. He sat there looking at me, and started whining. I glanced into the basement to see nothing there, only the absence of light.

"What's wrong, Louie? Come on." I remember saying those words to him, and he whined once more. That was when I heard the footsteps coming from the basement. They sounded a bit distant at first. I remember calling out to the sound, "Mom?" I had asked, maybe wondering if she would come see what the problem was.
That was when the footstep sounds grew faster, louder, and sounded like they were coming up the stairs after me, I screamed at the top of my lungs "Mom!" And bolted up the stairs with Louie in tow, my mom bursting out of her room. I remember hugging her and crying, but no further sounds were made. I know it wasn't a dream because I wasn't able to sleep that night. The house wasn't previously owned, and my parents had built it, there were no peculiarities or any graveyards that were nearby. However, to this day, I cannot sleep in the basement alone, and I still wonder why that had happened, and why it hadn't happened any other time before or after. While no one else believes me, I can say with confidence that I am definitely traumatized.

Until You Do It Right
The world ended on December thirty-first of the year two thousand and twenty, precisely at the stroke of midnight. The human race began to be systematically exterminated by the spawn of the System. We were given a chance to defeat them, to take back our place at the top of the food chain. We failed. The first to perish were those who bravely rebelled. The soldiers. The defenders. One by one, they fell. In their final moments, they begged for aid. Nobody replied. The next to succumb were those who feebly cowered. The deniers. The leeches. Together, they fell. In their final moments, they cried out into the darkness. Countless voices replied in kind. The last to decline were those who shamelessly ran. The deserters. The cowardly. Alone, they fell. In their final moments, they whimpered quietly. There was nobody left to answer. The final human to die was a survivor. A runner. As he died, he begged for salvation. His prayers were answered. He was offered a chance to save himself, along with all of humanity, and he took it. This is his story. “I sat in the dark and thought: There’s no big apocalypse. Just an endless procession of little ones.”― Neil Gaiman, Signal to Noise. I am absolutely new to writing and will take any and all constructive criticism. Please give feedback, it is greatly appreciated. I will update the tags as they change, and I hope that you enjoy this little story I'm writing! Quick warning: Seamus is intentionally a flawed character, and this story is going to explore those flaws and perhaps even change a few of them. I do not agree with all of his actions, but it is what it is.

Living as a Demon
Jonathan was living the life of a normal human male in modern-day society, until he was rudely awakened one night by a summoning circle that ripped him out of his reality and dumped him into a new world filled with magic, demons, and…mouthy young orphan girls?! Now Jonathan must navigate the trials of playing guardian to a preteen, learning to unlock his inner demon, and somehow managing to find a dang pair of pants! Welcome! I'm E.O. Tenkey; thank you for considering Living as a Demon, my third released work here on Royal Road (following Not a Manga and Mr. Familiar)! Let's set some expectations, shall we? • Not much hard profanity (chapter 1 is the exception!)• Human MC! Our protagonist is a bona fide homo sapiens. Which is not to say there won't be demons, demonic powers, and what-have-you, but this isn't some grimdark exploration of the life and times of a nihilistic, amoral killing machine.• Slice of life. My previous works always ended up there, so might as well get ahead of the curve!• Weekly updates, and a completed story: I will post a single chapter per week on Wednesdays until the story is complete (extra chapters are rare, but do happen).
