《Chasing Royalty》Chapter 40

"Pack you things. We're flying out of here."

I don't have to be a genius to know that he's pissed because of the transaction I made. I mean, who wouldn't? One moment you had a great deal and the deed has been delivered to you, then the next moment, someone will say that the deed was a counterfeit.

"Why?" I asked, trying to muster the face of being innocent of the reason. "We just got here. I haven't even touched my luggage because I want to explore this house."

He was already walking up the staircase when he paused and turned to look at me. "You haven't packed? Good. Now get your luggage down," he said, walking up the stairs again. "You should be ready when I–"

"Good Afternoon, Mr. Westwood," I heard John said behind my back. He must have heard the commotion from the kitchen.

"Good Afternoon, John. This is Vanessa Carter my–"

"I've already introduced myself, don't worry." I stopped him mid-sentence.

"Well then that's good. John you can help her get her luggage down. I shall be down there also in a minute."

"Leaving so soon, sir?" John asked, not noticing the irritation in Nate's voice.

He was already at the top of the staircase when he answered. "Yes. I have no business here anymore since the princes decided to just play a prank on me." He did not even hide his remorse towards my brothers. "Good thing the princess called me directly and informed me that it was just a complete sham." The sarcasm in his voice is evident as he looked at me. The look he gave me made me want to dig myself in a hole somewhere.

"Wait!" I yelled, my voice resonating throughout the house. "Can I just have something to eat first? I haven't eaten since we left."

"Knock yourself out." With that, he went to his room.

I looked at John. "Right this way, miss. I was already preparing for some snack." He led me to the dining area and I was fascinated on what I saw. Chandelier hanging from the ceiling, and...

"Take her luggage down as we eat, John."

Again, I was interrupted with admiring the place.

"Right away, Sir."

We settled on our seats and ate in silence. John left us the moment he finished setting up the table. Leaving me with a pissed off Nathaniel Westwood.

Silence.

I feel like I can hear even the tiniest noise in the room. My heart is pounding, my breathing is heavy, the silence is deafening.

When I couldn't take the quietness anymore, I decided to speak up.

"You know you don't have to be so rude all the time."

"Not now, Carter."

I huffed. "Like I said earlier. I no longer have business here."

"So, are we going back home?"

You're already home, my subconscious pointed out.

"No," he said without sparing me a glance. "I called the office and decided to take some months off."

"Months off? So we're not going back yet?"

"No. We're going somewhere else."

"Somewhere else?"

"Do I have to repeat everything I say?" He said, glaring at me.

"But who's going to take care of the company while you're out."

"I think Aaron can handle our company, but I will send someone over to carry the papers for my business."

"Where are we going then?" I asked as he took his last bite.

"You'll see."

*****

2 hours later.

Exhaustion finally caught up with me. I didn't even care where we're going anymore. I didn't even know that we landed already. All I know is that after settling in my seat for just fifteen minutes, my body decided to succumb to sleep. And it felt like I only slept for seconds when Nate woke me up.

I was groggy like a little girl who is about to go to school very early in the morning. I didn't carry my own luggage because I was too tired to even carry myself.

My family and I traveled from country to country, people may think that I'm already used to being in the airplane, but that's not the case. Every time I fly somewhere, my mind always decides to stay awake. No matter how many hours it takes, my body just can't go to sleep. Besides, flying with Nate is different. We flew from New York to Switzerland, and then one hour later, we're on the air again.

That's just great. Now I have to drag my body to some place unknown to me.

Oh, wait. I'm not dragging myself. I feel like I'm levitating.

I was in that thought to notice that Nate was actually carrying me to a room. When he looked down and saw me trying to open my eyes, he shushed me and told me to go back to sleep.

At the mention of sleep, my body sunk to his, accepting the warmth his body is giving me.

I woke up at the sound of my phone ringing. Not looking at the caller ID, I grunted.

"Good Morning." Somehow Jessica's voice doesn't sound please at all.

"What do you want?"

"How's the business trip?"

"Oh, god. It was awful."

"Yeah. I heard that Nate somehow lost the property he bought in Switzerland."

"Yeah, thanks to my brothers." I rolled on the other side of the bed. "How's our Alexander?"

"Karlsson said she'll handle him. I think they're in New Orleans now." She paused. "And congratulations, by the way."

"What do you mean?"

"I guess exhaustion finally caught up on you. Nathaniel said that he'll be taking a time-off but that doesn't mean he'll be on vacation. According to Aaron, he'll be handling their company for an indefinite time until Nathaniel comes back and help."

"Why are you congratulating me?" My forehead creasing. If Nathaniel is going on business trips, that means he'll drag me along with him from country to country and that doesn't bode well with me.

"Ugh! You're currently in my paradise."

"Your paradise?"

"You're in Greece, my dear friend. Santorini, Greece to be exact."

"What?" I sat up. Sure enough, the white walls around me and the balcony outside the bed proved that. "What are we? On honeymoon?"

"I don't know. All I know is that you're a lucky bitch who can experience vacation after just months of working."

"Jess..." I was going to explain that this is just purely business when I heard Aaron's voice over the phone.

"I'm going to have to call you back." I heard a loud thud from the other line. "Or maybe not. Aaron decided to dump loads of paper works on my desk." I heard her sigh. "Laura, I'm going to say this now. Whether it's a business trip or some sort of date, enjoy it. You may not have that kind of opportunity anymore when you go back. I'll just give you an update about Alexander. Your dreams of going to the places you wanted, I think Nathaniel will give you that. Maybe without him noticing that somehow your wish to be a normal person, travelling the world, will come true."

"Wow..." I blinked, trying to absorb what she said.

"I have to go. Enjoy."

"Bye."

I hang up and sat at the edge of the bed, facing the balcony. I breathed in the fresh air. I pushed myself away from the bed and walked out on the balcony.

Santorini, Greece

I've been in Greece before, but just to attend some meeting. I wasn't able to admire its beauty because I'm on the clock.

I'm always busy.

I'm always on the clock. I was trained that way. I should always manage my time because time is not something we control. If I slack off, more work would just pile up.

My family and I went to vacation constantly, but it's just a cover up for our business. Vacation is merely a side dish.

Now, here I am. Wasting time, as most palace people would put it. But it feels good. The air of freedom, feels so good. The room was nothing compared to the marvel outside.

Jessica's right. Greece is paradise. The sun has set but its remaining light is still visible in the sky. The whole Santorini is lighting up as night slowly falls.

I smiled, looking up the sky. This is amazing.

I walked back to the room and started rummaging in my luggage. I took a short shower and put on my white sundress. It's a good thing I decided to bring some.

I walked out of the room and found myself lost by the beauty downstairs. The living room, dining area, kitchen, everything is light colored. Every color compliments each other.

I was at the kitchen when I saw Nate talking to someone over the phone. He's wearing this white V-neck shirt with his sweat shorts which I think looks great on him. He doesn't look like an arrogant billionaire with that outfit, minus the scowl on his face.

"... yes please. Thank you," he hasn't seen me yet, so I decided to sneak up on him. I tapped him on the shoulder and then...

"BOO!"

Instead of yelling, he just stared at me like he couldn't believe I did what I just did.

I blew out a breath of frustration. "I should've known you wouldn't be scared."

He blinked for a moment. "Why would I be scared?"

"Because I snuck up on you and I just tried to scare you."

"You will never scare me with that face."

I huffed. I know that.

Wait what?

Before I could say another word, he held out his hand.

"Walk with me."
