《Chasing Royalty》Chapter 39

The property I bought from the princess is even larger than I thought. Seeing really is believing. The Winzenried twins are not kidding when they said that it was huge. The only visible thing in the surrounding is the castle itself. The urban life outside seemed to be on the other side of the world. From the surrounding mountains to the lake near the fields, everything screams nature.

I closed my eyes and thought to myself.

Peace.

Why would the princess give this up? The reports given to me about the Royal family is well researched. Princess Laura has been known as an advocate for the environmental awareness, yet she sold this vast land of nature to a Land Development Company.

Huh. Interesting.

I walked around the land, picturing the perfect end product. I would have very happy clients, indeed once this is presented. The peacefulness as well as the surrounding nature will help relax anyone, and the fact that the place is near the royal palace is a certified hotspot for tourists and the country's people alike.

I was planning in my mind on what the buildings might be and where it should be when my phone started ringing. I looked at the caller ID and saw that it was coming from a private number.

"Hello?"

"Yes, hello. Is this Mr. Nathaniel Westwood?" A woman from the other line asked in a very thick German accent.

That voice. Despite the accent, I think I've heard that voice many times before.

I was pondering on where I've heard that voice when the woman brought me back to reality.

"Hello?"

"Ah. Yes. Yes. This is he."

"How rude, I'm asking a simple question, but it took you longer than a second to answer."

That hit me on the nerve. Who the hell does she think she is? And what does she want from me? She's the one who called so she should've known who she was talking to.

"I believe you're the one who called so I should be the one asking that. Who is this?" I asked, not hiding the annoyance in my voice.

"This is Princess Laura of Switzerland. Most people find honor in receiving a direct call from me. Apparently, you're an exception. I got your number from my brothers. I heard that you recently purchased a property that belongs to me."

My annoyance suddenly flew out of the window.

"I apologize, your highness, for my behavior. I just arrived in your country and immediately came to check on the property I bought."

"On to business then, I suppose. I also apologize for not making an appearance when you came. I am currently out of the country. But I was informed that a piece of my land was sold to a Nathaniel Westwood of New York City, USA. There must have been a misunderstanding between you and my brothers. The property you purchased is not for sale."

"What?" I asked all too suddenly. "What do you mean not for sale? You already signed the papers and the deed has already been delivered to me."

"I understand the progress of my brothers' mischievous act, but believe me when I say that what you have is not the original copy."

"You signed the papers," I pointed out.

"No. Like I said before, it's a misunderstanding between you and my brothers. They forged my signature in order to sell my property to you. They did not confide with me about this."

"Well I'm sorry to hear that your brothers played a trick on you. But whatever your..." I paused, remembering what she said. Only now do I understand her previous statement. "What do you mean by saying I don't have the original copy? And that your brothers' mischievous act?"

"I told you, my brothers played a trick on both of us. I just called to clarify that what you have is not what you think. The deed of the property is still at the hands of the palace. I'm referring to the original one."

I clenched my jaw and tightened my hold on the phone. This is not happening.

"I do apologize for the inconvenience that was caused my brothers. Trust me when I say that I was surprised by the fact that my brothers are still upholding to their reputation. They are still quite immature to take everything seriously. They have much to learn but rest assured that they will receive the right punishment for doing such an act."

I kept silent, trying to control my anger. If I say another word, I might yell at the princess, and I don't want that.

I heard her cleared her throat. "I must hang up. I have an important meeting to attend. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience."

I put on my heaviest accent as I made a call to Nate. I reasoned out that my brothers played a prank on both of us. Both Luca and Cedric reluctantly agreed on my plan to take responsibility for what they did, and to do that, I have to bring up their old selves. And I'm referring to the time when they were very irresponsible and immature.

Calling Nate on the phone and pretended to be Princess Laura (that sounded weird) was an easy task. The second step, however, will be quite difficult. After I hang up on him, I immediately went to work. I searched his things, files, and everything until I finally found the deed to my property.

I realized I should have done the searching thing first before making a call because I was panicking the whole time I was in his room.

The plan is to call Nathaniel Westwood and put the blame on my brothers, making them look irresponsible, because they are. Then make sure that Nate will believe what I said, as Princess Laura. After the call, I need to find the deed while my brothers get to work by creating another certificate, similar to the real one, but not quite. There will be a slight change from the original one which Nate is supposed to not notice. Then they will fax me the deed. Thank God, I saw one at Nate's. I have no idea why he has a fax machine, but whatever.

I located the original deed and hid it in my luggage. I have just received the file when I heard the doors on the foyer opened.

That was way too fast if he just came from the Greenfields.

I quickly pulled out the plug and placed the fake deed where the original one was once placed. I made sure that everything was the way it looked like in Nate's room before he left, and then I dashed out.

Not really princess like. My mom would never forgive me if she saw that.

I was running down the stairs when I saw an unfamiliar man waiting at the end.

"Good Afternoon, miss."

I smiled as I tried to even out my breathing. "Good Afternoon. I'm Vanessa Carter, Nathaniel's personal assistant." I held out my hand as I introduced myself.

"John Wells, Miss Carter. I am the caretaker of this house and since Mr. Westwood will be staying here, I shall be at your service as your butler for the rest of your stay."

Okay?

"Cool. Thank you."

"Shall I make you a drink? Mr. Westwood informed me that he will have a guest."

"No need, John. I am just waiting for him to come back, actually. I'll just explore the house if that's okay."

"Then, would you want me to give you a tour?"

I shook my head profusely before declining politely. "Oh, it's okay. You don't have to. I... uhm... I want to explore the place on my own, but thanks for the offer."

"Very well. I shall be in the kitchen when you need something."

I nodded.

Once he disappeared from the stairs, I started to admire the living room. Because I was too busy worrying about my problem when we arrived, I didn't really have the chance to appreciate the decors inside.

The phrase "simple but beautiful" is the perfect definition of this place. I am surrounded by off-white colored walls and shiny tiled floor that compliments the walls very well. The chandelier hanging above was adorned by gold chains, something you usually see in a palace but like the smaller version. The love seat has an almost similar color of the walls. but the coffee table is made of glass and gold.

I wasn't even done admiring the living room when Nate walked in. His hair disheveled, like it has been pulled hardly. His hand was tugging his tie off roughly and when our eyes met, he glared at me.

I stiffened. I felt like he could see right through me. I silently recalled our conversation earlier. I didn't actually change my voice, but I do hope that the heavy accent managed to cover that up.

I was about to say something when he beat me to it.

"Pack your things. We're flying out of here."
