"ZOMBIE!" she screamed. She slapped the zombie across the face to defend herself, even though he didn't do anything to threaten her. He clutched his cheek and hissed, "Ow! Hey! What was that for?!" he looked at her and frowned.
"Oh my- I'm so sorry! My parents have always taught me to hate zombies, thinking they're hideous and would bite your ear off, but..." she looked in his eyes and blushed, "...you're not hideous at all."
"Did I just say that out loud?"
He laughed, "I'll take it. Now we'll just talk your ear off," he smiled. "You're not too bad, either. I'm Zed." he sticker out his hand and she shook it, smiling, "(Y/n)."
Just then, the door burst open and in came Addison, Bucky, Stacey, Lacey, and Tracey.
Addison and Bucky rushed over and tore her away from Zed, glaring. "If you ever touch my cousin again, it won't be pretty! Which as you can tell, is off brand for me."
Tracey sprit hand sanitizer in his hand to get rid of the supposed zombie germs. Y/n rolled her eyes as they took her away, mouthing "I'm sorry" to him. Addison shut the door and you were now in the hallway.
"What was that for, guys?!" she said. "We just saved your life!" Addison gawked, "you should be kissing our feet thanking us!"
"The only thing you saved me from is getting a date!" she scoffed, rolling her eyes.
The co-captains "ooh" and Bucky rolled his eyes. "You're not dating a zombie on my watch, cuz. To cheer practice." Bucky snapped his fingers and they all walk to practice. She sighed and followed along.
They soon arrived in the gym for tryouts. You grabbed the card which had her favorite number on it. She hung it around her neck, and got into position to the right of Addi.

"Welcome to cheer tryouts!" Bucky smiled. "I know you all want to be on the squad, but, here at Seabrook we only accept the best. So, if you perform the best, you'll make the squad. Let's begin!"
After an hour or so of hard work and many people screaming or crying out in annoyance, the members making the squad were finally picked.
"(Y/n)! Addison!" Bucky called. The sisters walked over, one beaming and the other looking less than excited. "Welcome to the Seabrook Cheer Squad!" He grinned. Addison squealed and hugged him tightly. "Thank you so much!" Y/n looked behind her and noticed her friend Bree looking crestfallen that she didn't make the squad.
Y/n frowned and tapped Addi's shoulder. She turned around and noticed how sad Bree looks. She nodded and turns to Bucky. "Hey, cuz.. how about you put Bree on the team?"
Bucky chuckles, "We only have perfection on our squad."
"Please? She's super athletic and has serious pep!"
Bucky thought for a moment before sighing. "Bree! Get over here."
Bree nervously walked over to him. "You have some real... potential," Bucky said. Bree looks confused, but continued to listen. "You made the squad. As a stand in," he said.
"So I made the team??" Bree squealed and started jumping up and down. "I made it!! I made the team!"
Everyone clapped for the new members of Seabrook Cheer Squad. Bucky hushed everyone so he could talk.
"Seabrook has been the best since forever. Change is upon us now that zombies are here. They could be the reason we lose this year's championship, so we are not losing this year or any other year! With zombies here, cheer is threatened." People agreed with him and he smirked. "Are you ready to protect it?"

The squad shouted a "yes" and he grinned. "To cheer initiation! Addison, Bree, and (Y/n), meet me at the gate of Zombietown at 7 pm tonight," he smirked.
Y/n sighed. She made the squad, but something didn't feel right. She was on to Bucky.. he was planning something, she just knew it.
But what?
.:: Time skip ::.
7 pm came faster than Y/n thought. Bucky drove her, Addi, Bree, and the co-captains to Zombietown gate. Parking the car, they quickly snuck inside the gate.
"Woah... Zombietown.." she looked around and smiled.
Sitting on a staircase was a little girl. She looked about 7 or 8, and was playing with the lights in front of her house.
"ZOEY! DINNER!" Y/n heard someone call from inside the home. The girl stood up and skipped her way into her house. She laughed, she was adorable!
The three of them wandered to the center of the street and Bucky smiled, "Each year at cheer initiation, we like to remind zombies that they're nothing but freaks and they don't belong here." Lacey handed him a carton of eggs, which he handed to Y/n. She raised a brow, "What's this for?"
"Egg that zombie house, and you're all officially on the team." Her's and Bree's eyes widened, "What?! We can't do that!" Y/n stammered. "That's wrong!" Bree added.
"Oh, gimme that," Addison grabbed the egg carton out of Y/n's hand and got ready to throw an egg, when a zombie appeared by the group.
"You look lost!" She said. Bucky and his captains scream and ran out of Zombietown as fast as possible. She shook her head and walked back to her house.
The three remaining looked at each other and dove behind a trash can.
She heard a door open, and two people walked out.
"Everything okay out there, Zed?" A voice said. Y/n turned her head and noticed Zed. He caught her eye and frowned, looking upset. He knew.
"Zed?" the man said again. Zed tore his eyes from her to the man, "Yeah. Everything's fine, Dad." Zed smiled sadly.
"Come back inside, son," he said. Zed nodded and goes in, taking one last look at her. He shook his head and the door shut.
Her heart sunk. "I had no idea zombies were treated like this." She got up and threw the eggs away, and left. She felt ashamed. She had to find a way to talk to Zed tomorrow.

They know little of what that means, but they have to figure out the rules that are now their lot, for they have little hope to escape their predicament otherwise. They need to understand what the descriptors in their minds mean, what each of the strange piece of gear waiting in treasure chests behind terrible guardians can bring them. They have to become Professionals on their own and rejoin the Empire. They will figure out their new lives one way or another. But will there be an Empire waiting for them when the Gates re-open? Caught in a clash of empires and high tiers, they will do what little they can. They will step up and do their best. One way or another. The Infinite Labyrinth is a slice-of-life litRPG adventure set in a real historical setting. It's a hard, crunchy litrpg. Expect blue boxes everywhere, and the system itself is very mathy. It started life as a serial. I prepared some proper worldbuilding, with enough details and background for lots of different potential story arcs, but as I wrote, I realized the main story needs to have a definitive end. So, there are four books in total, for a bit under 1500 pages, plus additional side stories, and even maybe a sequel one day. The Gore tag was added as a precaution because there are a few scenes with some light gore.
