《Destined Stars》21. The Dance

It's Halloween. Every year the school plan some sort of over-the-top party. This year, they have decided on a dance theme. Angels and demons. I think it's a stupid idea, however, many people seem to be quite buzzed about it.

I offered Marnie a lift to the dance, but she wanted to get ready at her friend's house. Frankly, things have been going great so far with Marnie. It's natural and whenever she walks into a room, my body lights up, my heart races and a smile creeps on my face. Matt once noticed this and he appeared shocked that I was smiling. He knew Marnie was changing me for the better.

She's not needy as most girls tend to be -- she knows what she wants and I like that about her.

We went on another date yesterday and I'm enjoying spending my time with her. On our second date, we went to a nice Italian restaurant after a shopping day trip. I hated shopping before Marnie. The thought of taking a girl shopping would have made me scowl a few weeks ago. I guess Marnie is changing me.

We went to a cool little shop in the middle of the mall that sells all kinds of shirts, music related. Marnie purchased herself a Nirvana t-shirt because she wanted to match the t-shirt I was wearing.

She's too cute.

I've also noticed our similar tastes in music. My bandmates love music, although a part of me feels that music isn't their passion. Instead, they love the attention it brings.

Marnie is different. It's refreshing to meet someone with the same admiration for music as me.

Marnie fascinates me and I can't seem to get her out of my head.

I've been withdrawn from my bandmates these last couple of days, I knew I had to face them sooner rather than later. So yesterday after my date with Marnie, I went over to JJ's place. After a lengthy chat, I felt we were finally on the same page.

Well... everyone except Harley.

"This is ridiculous! You never cared about this girl before! Do you see she is using you!"

"I don't think Marnie would do that, Harley," Rox says.

"She is!" she turns to glare at me. "You hated her before, then you yell at us for being judgemental?"

"I was wrong," I say through gritted teeth.

"We were all wrong," Matt speaks up. I have a lot of respect for the rest of the guys. I could tell from their guilty expressions and the way they hung their heads in shame. I'm lucky to have such great friends.

"Yeah, we were assholes. I'm sorry dude." JJ frowns.

"It's okay JJ. Look, I don't want this to tear us apart. You guys mean everything."

"It won't." Rox nudges my shoulder playfully. I'm relieved I didn't push my friends away, these guys have kept me going through my dark past. Of course, they knew about my brother. Matt and JJ liked hanging out with Hayden and could see how much of an amazing brother he was to me.

"This is insane! So after everything that's happened, you're all going to welcome him back with open arms?"

Matt throws Harley a dark look. "Yeah, Harley. Not to mention Reese is the lead guitarist in our band, he's also our best friend. We stick together."

Harley scoffs. "What is wrong with you all!" her menacing eyes land on me. "Ever since that girl stepped into our school -- all of a sudden you turn soft. You have changed Reese."

"Christ Harley, stop being a jealous bitch." Matt mutters.

"I'm not! Can't anyone see? Ever since he's been dating that whore, we haven't been working on our music."

"Don't call her that! And it's not just Marnie that's been on my mind." I wasn't going to bring my personal life into it right now. I also don't trust Harley.

"Well if you can't make time for your band, we shouldn't make time for you." she storms out of the house like a child, shouting a few curse words at me.

I shrug my shoulders, drinking from a bottle of beer. If that's how she wants to behave -- so be it.

I can't understand what her problem is.

Standing beside Matt, I scan the room. The dance floor is crowded with rowdy teens. There are more people dressed as red demons than there are angels.

Just shows what this school is like.

My eyes sweep the dancefloor when I spot a beautiful blonde girl walking through the front door with a brunette by her side. Her blue orbs are wide with curiosity.

Christ.

I had to do a double-take when I saw her outfit. She is wearing a short white dress exposing her mile-long legs that glow purple in the bright neon light, complete with the sparkling silver wings. Her hair is straightened and she wears a small white halo headband. Her makeup is minimal but compliments her beautiful features.

Damn. I know she's an angel, but she sure looks sinful.

"She looks hot!" I narrow my eyes at Matt when I notice him staring at Marnie. "Dude?"

"The brunette dude, Marnie's friend." I snicker. "Do you think I should go for it?"

I pat his shoulder reassuringly. "I'm sure you'll have no problem charming her."

He chuckles. "Yeah, you're right." he brushes his blonde hair back. "So, could you introduce me?"

I snort and head straight over towards my Angel. She smiles bashfully when I approach her.

"Woah. You look beautiful." Marnie blushes an alluring shade of pink. Adorable.

"Thank you." she says timidly.

Matt clears his throat next to me. "This is my best friend Matt, Matt this is Marnie and her best friend..." Fuck, what was her name?

"Sky." the brunette says with a small smile.

"You girls look stunning." Matt drinks from a red solo cup in his hand. He gazes at the brunette like a lovesick puppy and I roll my eyes.

"Thanks," Marnie replies while the brunette watches Matt with a bored expression. Uh oh.

"So, would you like to dance with me Sky?"

The brunette looks slightly horrified and I can't resist grinning, earning a jab in the stomach from Marnie.

"I think I'm going to grab a drink." Sky strides away after asking Marnie if she'll be okay here. Why wouldn't she be?

Marnie smiles and I stare shamelessly at her.

What is she doing to me? She has enchanted me.

"I'll come with you." Matt follows Sky and I shake my head, smirking. I turn towards Marnie, my heart pumping from her incredible beauty.

"Would you like to dance gorgeous?"

Hopefully, Marnie doesn't shut me down like Matt.

"Sure."

I take her hand and guide her toward the dancefloor. The whole room is packed with students, dancing to a cheesy pop song. All I can see are red and white colours blurred together. I hate dressing up, and while my bandmates dressed up in devil costumes -- I stuck with my simple black clothes with devil horns.

"Not a fan of Halloween?" she inspects my outfit with an amused smile.

"I don't dress up," I mumble, causing her to laugh. Her laugh is heavenly.

"I guess you don't need to, you are after all the 'devil', right?" her eyes dance with mischief and I smirk wickedly at her small joke.

She's got a naughty mouth.

I brush the shell of her ear with my nose. "I can show you just how devilish I can be." I lean back, winking. After a moment, the apples of her cheeks flame and my hands tighten around her waist.

Once the song ends, another follows. It's a more romantic and slow song. Right now I feel so out of place and so does Marnie.

Nevertheless, I hold her by the waist and draw her closer. My heart is hammering as I gaze into those blue orbs swirling like pale sapphires in a storm of stormy clouds. I didn't notice the specks of silver floating in her iris until now.

When my eyes drop down to those pale pink inviting lips of hers, my head is gone.

I lean in closer, our breath mingling as one. I stare at Marnie's expression, waiting for any indication from her -- something to confirm I can continue.

She shocks me when she leans in, capturing my lips.

The room disappears. All I can hear is the faint sound of a song playing in the background. My full focus is on Marnie. Her lips are soft, warm and sweet. A feeling of pure bliss overcomes me and I want more.

Is this what heaven feels like?

I graze my lips over hers and she moans softly into my mouth. That sets me off further.

My tongue brushes over her lower lip, asking for entrance. She opens her mouth hesitantly. And like a starving man, I devour her mouth, taking every little bit she can give me.

My tongue dances with hers while her chest is pressed against mine.

God, she is like an addiction.

We pull back at the same time to catch our breaths. My forehead resting against hers. I look down at her now swollen red lips and I groan. My body ignites into flames, my heart pumping wildly in my chest, my ears ringing and my head in a daze from that amazing kiss.

She's like a dream. An Angel carved in heaven just for me. I know I won't be able to get enough of her and it scares me.

Marnie smiles bashfully and I continue to hold her. Never letting her go.
