Derek and the kids were on their way to their house, well basically Meredith's old house.

"Daddy, I'm hungry" Bailey complained

"Let's eat some ice cream when we're home" Derek said in a try to give in and kept driving. He parked his car and helped the kids out. It was almost bedtime for the kids and it was noticeable. Ellis was getting cranky and threw a fit for everything. It was a living hell to get Ellis out of Meredith's room. Even other doctors came checking on what was happening and it didn't make things easier for Meredith.

Derek quickly got in the house and grabbed 4 bowls, quickly handing them out when all four of them were eating their ice cream.

"I don't want this!" Ellis started yelling

"Well then give it to me" Derek simply said

"I hate ice cream!" She yelled

"Ellis, you usually love ice cream.." Derek sighed

"I love mommy's one cream, not yours!" She yelled as she started sobbing

"I think it's time for bed" Derek said and put both their bowls away "Guy's I'm gonna help Ellis into her pajamas, once you're finished can you please go upstairs and brush your teeth? I'll go grab some fresh pajamas

Zola and Bailey nodded when Derek scooped up Ellis. He carried her upstairs and brought her into the bathroom to help her get changed. "Now let's brush your teeth" Derek smiled

"No!" She said and crossed her arms

"Ellis, you need to brush your teeth. Come on" Derek said and she grabbed her toothbrush.

"Dad, we're ready!" He heard Bailey yelling as he and Zola ran upstairs

"That's good guys! Go brush your teeth and get changed, please" Derek said and returned to see that Ellis was finally doing what he asked her to do.

After a couple of minutes all the kids were ready for bed

"Daddy?" Ellis asked with a tiny voice

"What's wrong?" He asked her

"Can we sleep with you in the big bed?" She asked as she was staring at the ground. Feeling bad for giving him a hard time

Derek looked at his 3 kids and noticed how vulnerable they looked. Even if they seemed to be doing okay, he knew this was hard on them

"ZoZo, Bails, what do you think?" He asked

"Can we?" Zola asked with big eyes

"Of course" Derek smiled "Let's grab your stuffed animals and then we can go to bed, okay?"

The kids nodded and each ran off to their own rooms. Grabbing their stuffed animal and gathering in the big bed.

Halfway through the night, Derek got a phone call. He carefully stepped out of the bed and walked into the hallway

"Derek Shepherd" He said as he picked up "Bailey? No" He gasped

"Meredith is having another infection? What does this mean?" He questioned "I'm calling Karev to watch the kids. I'll be there soon" He said before hanging up the phone

"Daddy?" Ellis' tired voice was heard and Derek turned around

"Ellie? You're supposed to be asleep" He said, fighting back the tears

"Is it about mommy?" She asked, her lip trembling

"Mommy is okay, I'm gonna go see her real quick. Uncle Alex will come and watch you"

"I wanna come with you" Ellis whined

"I know, Ellie. But mommy's sick and right now it's important that mommy doesn't get sicker. i'll explain everything tomorrow, right now you need to go back to bed" He said and helped her back in the bed before returning to the hallway to call Alex

"Teddy, where is she?" Derek asked as he ran into the ICU

"She's been put in isolation. No more visits before this infection has been cleared up." Teddy told him

"I need to see her!" Derek yelled

"Only if you wear full PPE and don't tire her out" Miranda's voice was heard

"I'm gonna get changed!" He yelled and took off

Derek zipped on the protective suit, fixing the headgear and was now on his way to Meredith. He entered the room and noticed how pale her skin looked.

He sat down and grabbed her hand. Some tears escaped his eyes.

Derek was lost, he had no clue how long he had been sitting there when he felt Meredith stir

"Mer" He smiled as she slowly opened her eyes a bit

"Hmm" Meredith groaned but burst out in a violent coughing fit.

"Shh, you're gonna be okay" He kept saying to calm her down.

"I feel.. like shit" She groaned as she clutched her chest

"You're having another infection" He said

Meredith's eyes slowly opened a bit more and she started to take in her surroundings "Where am I?" SHe questioned

"ICU, you're in isolation" He sighed

"Where are the kids?" She asked

"They're at home, asleep. Alex is with them"

"Bring them.. in the morning" She whispered

"Mer.. They can't come over" Derek sighed as he brushed some hears away from her forehead with his fingers

Tears started to stream down Meredith's eyes "Okay" She sighed "Tell them.. I love them" She whispered

"I will. Get some more rest, we can facetime them in the morning" Derek suggested

Meredith gave a small nod and drifted off again

"Derek?" Miranda said as she entered the room "Can you come outside? We need to talk"
