《Benefits ━━ PETER PARKER》13. BITTERSWEET

BENEFITS — CHAPTER THIRTEEN!
since Peter had been bitten by that spider and he still couldn't believe it. How had his biggest problem gone from his friends with benefits situation with [Y/N] to trying not to get caught sneaking out to fight crime?
Peter sighed from his position on top of an Apple branch — which was recently bought by Tony Stark. He watched as a couple of construction workers were attaching a sign that said 'Proud partner of Stark Industries' underneath the Apple logo.
He was preparing to go home when he heard a scream that sounded awfully familiar. His eyes darted around the place until he found the source — it was his aunt. There were four men all huddled around her.
Peters whole system became overfilled with rage as he began swinging down. For once, Peter didn't have a snarky comment to give them — instead, he fought them in silence. Not once did he meet his aunts eyes — even when he walked her home.
"T-thank you Spider-Man." She said before going up the stairs to their apartment. Peter nodded in response.
Once she was out of his view, he began crawling up the building towards his bedroom window. He had just made it inside his bedroom at the same time he heard the apartment door open. Frantically, Peter ripped the costume off and threw it into his closet just as May opened his bedroom door. Peter was so glad that he'd worn clothes under his costume.
"Hey," she sniffled, shooting him a weak smile, "how was your day?"
Peter shrugged, trying to act clueless was difficult. "It was aright — are you okay?" He asked, taking a step towards her.
May forced out a laugh, "I'm good." She told him before stepping out of his room and closing the door behind her quietly.

"What is the Atmoic Number of Sodium?" Liz asked the members of the team participating.
Peters hand hit the bell at lightning speed, "11!" Ned gave him an enthusiastic high five.
Liz smiled at him, twirling one of her dark curls in one hand, "good job, Peter."
Flash, who was just about to answer, shot Peter a glare. Harry Osborn, who was sitting next to him rolled his eyes. "I had that."
"Obviously you didn't otherwise you would've answered it first." [Y/N] shrugged, she was sprawled out on the floor beside Cindy Moon going over their notes.
Flash scoffed. "Okay guys, turn to page eight." Liz said, stopping Flash and [Y/N] fight from escalating.
Not a sound could be heard besides the sound of papers shuffling, "What does Newton's First Law state?" Liz asked once everyone had found the page.
This time Flash was the first to answer, "An object at rest will remain this way unless it is acted upon by force." He said, his words somewhat incoherent due to how fast he spoke.
Liz frowned, "anything else?"
Peter chimed his bell, "he also said that a moving object will continue to move at the same speed and in the same direction unless an unbalanced force acts upon it."
Flash swore under his breath, "yeah, I was getting to that."
"Sure you were," [Y/N] mumbled, causing Cindy to giggle to herself quietly.
"Abraham, why don't you sub in for Flash?" Liz turned to the dark boy going over flash cards with Betty Brant.
Abraham smirked, "I'd be honoured." Flash stormed off stage and sat down beside Betty grumpily. The blonde girl rolled her eyes before packing her things up and moving over to Michelle.
"Can someone describe intertia?" Liz asked and Ned quickly whacked the bell.

Everyone looked at Ned as he answered, "The tendency of an object to resist changes in it motion."
"You two are on fire today." Liz said encouragingly as she shuffled her palm cards.
"Woah, did you see what happened in Lagos with The Avengers?" [Y/N] asked the group at lunch the next day.
"With Scarlet Witch?" Ned asked, peering over her shoulder to read the article on her phone, "yeah, it was all over the news this morning. Apparently Maximoff is dangerous and should be locked up — well, according to Buzzfeed anyways."
Michelle shook her head, "it was obviously an accident, people are overreacting. They're just mad because she's a woman and she's super powerful."
"Michelle, people died."
"So? People died when Captain America blew that building up but apparently he was a hero for that." Michelle argued, her grip on her pencil grew tighter as she grew more agitated. "It's blatant sexism."
[Y/N] sighed, Michelle kind of had a point. "Apparently they want The Avengers to sign something called The Sokovia Accords." Peter added, "The government thinks they need to be controlled — especially after what happened in Sokovia."
"The government." Michelle scoffed, "gotta ruin everything with their rules and regulations."
"I wonder if Spider-Man is an Avenger," [Y/N] pondered aloud.
"Pfft." Michelle shook her head, "I doubt it. He's only been around for a little bit and he hasn't done anything that significant yet."
Peter frowned. Thanks Michelle. "Maybe he doesn't wanna do bathing too big yet, maybe he's just looking at for the regular people. There's already heaps of people who handle the big things like alien invasions."
Ned shrugged, "that's the polices job though."
"You've seen how useless the police are." Peter argued, "they're basically Brooklyn Nine-Nine come to life."
"Aren't they really good detectives?" [Y/N] frowned, she hadn't seen Jake Paralta fail to solve that many cases.
"Yeah but they're morons."
"I'll remember that next time I want someone to watch it with."

Truck-kun Gets Sacrificed
Driscoll is my own version of a world with a game-like "system" of endless possibilities. MC has his own status, classes, skills, magic, and a living greatswordstaff in a world of monsters, demi-humans of all kinds, and even the supernatural. Sound good? Well, at first for Tru, it was a dream come true(I'm sorry). At least until reality hits him again and again. His quest from God is vague and must be discovered by him along the way. Hopefully, he can figure that out someday but for now, this new world's threats and his potential for power are motivation aplenty. With His new partner by his side, he's ready to embark on his mission of infinite sacrifice, however many lives it takes. The setting is pretty standard for fantasy, with my beginner attempts at writing. Litrpg elements are definitely involved here but It'll calm down as the story progresses and the world's foundation is laid. Judeo/Christian themes and principles take a major role and will be a backbone for much of the story. The fights will paint a picture in the mind rather than just be a bunch of number crunching. While he is meant to be a sacrifice to save all of Driscoll, he needs to gain enough power and influence to be a worthwhile sacrifice, or so he thinks. And so carnage will ensue as he avoids death as best he can while at the same time sacking himself for others. Truck Coon is your average determined, jiu-jitsu practitioner, tax associate that just started his new career. He dies to save kids from a semi-truck(Truck Coon got truck-kun'd, making him Truck-kun) and is transported to another world rather conventionally by God. Upon his arrival, he is quickly confronted with his first conflicts in the wild. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. Chapters are currently between 2300 and 4000 words and I try to post weekly, but also deal with severe limitations that cause late posts often. I have zero actual experience with writing stories and only recently started reading web novels in 2020. If you end up hating it, let me know your thoughts in a detailed comment or review, especially if you love it though :D I want to get better and welcome the feedback, so expect changes to be made with any flaws that y'all point out which I don't already have plans to address in future chapters. That being said, keep it constructive in nature, please. I have no Idea how the formatting and such will go, so if you like or dislike some techniques I try, give me that well-appreciated feedback! Thank you for reading.

The Spark
Michael Locke was a normal student, who went through his normal day in a normal fashion, until the day became... unnatural. Shot into the country of Aldemar and thrust into a new world alongside his many classmates, he agrees to work for the king in exchange for shelter and to learn magic. Fate however, is indifferent to his wishes, as he quickly realizes that he may be a hero, but his purpose in this world is quite opposite. Suddenly surrounded on every side, Michael must work to survive, and if anyone finds his secret... He's as good as dead. The Spark is meant to be a murder mystery style isekai, focused on the existence of basically an anti-hero, with every one of the large amount of heroes attempting to discover who the traitor is. This isn't made to be a lovey dovey easy going isekai with an OP mc, it's made to stir around an emotional story, with many dark tones. Still, the goal is to stay fairly light hearted as well, and the perspective will pass around to several characters throughout the story.

Iron and Wood - A Tale Of Empire and Clans
For centuries, the Midlands had been split into fragments. A once glorious, united Empire has become a shadow of its former self. Unity has not returned, and not for the lack of trying. The greatest of these successor states were the Li Dynasty to the south, the rulers of old, and the Emerald Empire to the North, with its vibrant vitality. Unity is the end goal, and both will sacrifice anything to attain this elusive dream. For unity would surely solve the conflict that had long plagued this once prosperous continent. The Ironwood Clan was a prime player. Some would consider them the ones holding the reigns to the horse named 'Unification'. Iron and wood were the backbones of civilization; similarly, the Ironwoods were the backbones of the Northern Empire, and by extension, the people of the Midlands. Their methods, as questionable as they might be, had strengthened the North. Yet, were they enough? In the midst of it all, a young Ironwood who had lost his path must once again find his way. For the sake of his own wellbeing; for the sake of his clan; and for the sake of the Empire and its subjects. However, is he willing to sacrifice for the good of all? Is he willing to condemn some for the sake of others? Is he willing to make the right, albeit harsh, decisions? Only the heavens would know. Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, events and incidents are the products of the author’s imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental. Additionally, any views and beliefs expressed by the characters are not the author's own. The story is also not an endorsement of any actions taken within. The 'profanity' and 'sexual content' warning tags are there to be safe (and to leave room for potential future changes), but for now these two things are not inside this novel. This is my take on 'cultivation', though it might be somewhat disconnected from the general idea of the genre. Release schedule: Two chapters a week. The cover was created using wombo art. While I believe that creations using the app are in the public domain, if that is not the case, I will take it down.

Contact Through Voided Lenses
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Edit: Fixed some inaccuracies in the synopsis. The void is a vast unexplored ocean filled with various wonders and dangers all waiting to be explored by those brave enough to travel and record. Many souls do find themselves brave enough to face the vast distances, the various risks to personal safety and do the hundreds of task required on a craft. However, at times the void itself can be boring with absolutely nothing to do but as time pass and more and better technology is reached, things got better. The various trips got faster, communications became faster than light and you can be home to see your loved ones after only months now. Through the various planets whether rocky or gaseous, the various stars whether small or giant, the various systems both eerily similar or completely alien. As part of an expeditionary scientific exploratory survey craft, one could see that the void offers no reprieve from all the discoveries and wonders. At times, it can feel empty and silent where no soul can hear you scream and at others it can be overwhelming with sudden phenomenon that can overwhelm the brightest of minds. The void itself is a truly fascinating ocean where one must chart the various islands or drown in its deadly tidal waves. But the question still remained no matter how you try to hide it in of itself… is there truly other intelligent life out there? Are we alone in this ocean? Those very questions still haunt the minds of those on the crafts themselves as they brace for every jump ready for the unknown and the known. Many would try to explain that yes there is other intelligent life out there whilst other still say no after 2 centuries of continuous flight out of the home system. Still, those are questions that bury deep in the minds of the crew and those at home as the voidcraft jumps to a system with a single yellow star orbited by 8 other planets with one crowning blue jewel being the 3rd closest with its 5 oceans and 7 continents, a planet called Dirt which is inhabited by a primitive species called Humanity. Hello, author here and this is my newest dive into writing particularly for the Writathon currently in progress being my first one. I hope you give me story a try but in case you still want more information on what you’re getting into, below are some pointers about the story itself. First Contact: CTVL is a story about a first contact scenario between an advanced alien civilization and a slightly more advanced modern day humanity on their planet called Dirt. Characters: The story will take place mainly on the perspective of the alien visitors themselves though there will be human POV characters who will show how the rest of humanity react through media and forums. Action: It won’t be an actual alien invasion but you have to see for yourself how well first contact went. Sci-Fi: I will be very forward here, I WILL bend the rules of physics in order to add in parts of the plot and there WILL be parts that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Theme: It will be a brooding story talking about the futility of pe… Just kidding, it’s mostly wholesome stuff to be honest here. Alien: The aliens themselves will… actually why should I tell you, you have to go and read it to find out what the aliens are though I will draw a few things here and there to aid in the process. Extra tidbit: If you are a grammar nazi or someone who really wants a realistic scifi story... this story is probably not for you at all. Anyways, that’s pretty much all I can say before I spoil something major of the plot itself, the story is slice of life so make sure that type of story is what you like because I am terrible with anything else as I found out, anyways, have a good time everyone and good luck to the other Writathon participants.
