(Y/n)'s P.O.V.
I sit on the bed awkwardly; I glance at Monokuma, who still happened to be leaning his head onto my shoulder. A sigh escapes my lips as I turn my head over to the sword covered in gold. It was basically the only thing in my room that would catch your eyes. Its compelling look could easily hypnotize you into staring at its beauty for hours.
"What? Is that stupid sword more amusing than me?" Monokuma pouts as he raises his head. I roll my eyes in response.
Monokuma then places his hand on my face, turning my head to look at him. My expression was unreadable, or rather it was lacking emotion. Monokuma smirks and leans closer to my face, chuckling slightly.
"Oh? What's this?" Monokuma mutters. "Is your little tough girl act fading away?"
I click my tongue and move my head, escaping from Monokuma's hold. Monokuma sighs and backs up. He soon crosses his arms and whines, "you're no fun!"
I roll my eyes yet again at his childish behavior. I stand up and brush off my skirt as though there was some sort of dust on it. Monokuma tilts his head in slight confusion when I begin walking towards the door.
"Aye! Where are you going?" he shouts, standing up and rushing over to me.
"I'm kind of hungry. I was heading to the kitchen to grab a snack," I explain to the bear. Monokuma's expression then changes. "Ah, okay. Let's go then!"
I nod then open the door, walking out of my dorm. Monokuma trails behind me as though he was some sort of puppy following its owner. As we walk to the dining hall, I spare a glance at Sayaka's door. I felt bad for basically ditching her, but it couldn't be helped. If Monokuma left everyone else alone, I guess that's all that mattered.
When we finally arrive at the dining hall, I immediately stroll over to the kitchen in the back. I enter the kitchen, seeing plenty of boxes containing fresh fruit and vegetables along with refrigerators full of meat and drinks. A large cooking island placed in the center of the room completed the kitchen. At the very back against the wall was more cooking space along with a collection of knives.

"Pretty fancy, huh? Well, what else would you expect from a school for ultimate students?" Monokuma remarked with a grin.
"Yeah...this truly is a wonderful kitchen," I respond as I walk over to the boxes of fruits. I look around at the assortment of fruits, finding a box of apples. I immediately grab an apple, polishing it off on my shirt.
"Alright! Is that what you wanted?" Monokuma questions.
"Yeah, let's head back to my dorm now," I state as I bite into the apple. (If you don't eat apples, replace it with another fruit you like.)
The both of us begin to head back to my dorm room in silence. We stayed in that silence until Monokuma broke the silence.
"Hey, (Y/n)? Can I ask you something?"
"Yeah, what is it?"
"How do you feel about despair? Personally, I adore it! It's just so draining...the feeling of hopelessness is truly addicting!"
"Despair...? Well, I know that us—the students of Hope's Peak, the nation's future hope—are fighting against despair. That feeling is horrible. I despise despair," I reply. My tone contained a sort of venom in them as I spoke, making Monokuma flinch.
"S-Sheesh...you're kinda scary (Y/n)...I like that side of you," Monokuma giggles.
Soon enough, we reach my dorm room. Upon entering, my apple was finished. I throw the apple core into my trash can, proceeding to sit down upon my bed. Monokuma does the same, leaning against my shoulder once again.
"Ugh, why do you even hang around me anyways?" I question Monokuma. Monokuma then looks up at me with a large smirk.
"Oh, it's 'cuz I really like you, (Y/n)! Something about you is different from the others, I know it. I can feel something about you is different. You would be so easy to break. You would be so easy to make a target for despair," Monokuma mumbles as he grips my shoulders.
I yelp in pain as he digs his fingernails into my shoulders. "H-Hey! You're hurting me!"

Almost immediately, Monokuma lets go of me and laughs. "Sorry! Got carried away! Anyways, I just remembered that I have something we can do!" Monokuma then reaches into his pocket, pulling out a small gaming console. He moves it closer to me, letting me examine it closer.
It was a lilac Nantendo Game Girl Advance. It was shut off, but it soon powered on at the click of a button. A little game began to load on the small screen, it being an older game.
"We can play with this! I got it a while back from...uh, an old friend!" Monokuma exclaims as he presses START on the game. He begins to play the game as I watch in slight awe.
After a small while, Monokuma is soon met with a screen with, "STAGE CLEAR!" printed on it. He lets out a cheer and throws his arms up. "Alright! Your turn, (Y/n)!" He then hands me the small device.
I nod and stare at the screen in determination. I had observed what Monokuma had done, but had not gotten the hang of it yet. As soon as the game starts, I begin clicking on a button to shoot the asteroids. However, after a while, I lost the game.
"Upupu~ You didn't pass the level! Here, let me show you what I do," Monokuma states. He snatches the device from my hands and leans his head on my shoulder. "Okay! So this is what you do."
The rest of our time together was spent playing that game. I still hadn't gotten the hang of it. I struggled with the last stage, the hardest stage to complete. After hours of playing, I finally was greeted with the screen saying, "STAGE CLEAR!"
"I did it!" I exclaim in glee. Monokuma claps with a smile, saying, "finally! I thought you would never get it!"
I jump up from my seat on the bed, jumping around in excitement. Monokuma laughs at my behavior, after all, he had never seen me like this. Suddenly, a little alarm begins to ring from Monokuma's wrist.
"Crap!" Monokuma shouts, looking at the watch on his wrist. "I gotta go! I gotta make the nighttime announcement! See you later, (Y/n)!"
"Oh, uh, see you later!" I shout as Monokuma runs out the door, slamming it behind him. I smile in delight as I remember the fact that I had cleared the stage. I never played many games as a child, so this was a delight for me. I plop down onto the bed, something hitting my leg. I look down to find the Game Girl sitting beside me; it's screen was still powered on and the words, "STAGE CLEAR!" were still printed on the screen.
I smile and turn off the device, setting it onto the desk; I would return it to Monokuma another time.
Soon enough, the monitor turns on, displaying Monokuma. He sat in his chair with a large smile, this time no juice box being in his hands unlike last time.
"This is a school announcement! It is now 10 p.m.! It is now officially nighttime! Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite!~" Monokuma announces before the monitor shuts off once again.
I lay down onto the soft bed, my lips still curled into a smile. I couldn't help but feel a bit mad at myself for having fun with Monokuma, but it couldn't be helped.
I should be more concerned about this killing game that we had been thrown into, but I spent the day with the enemy instead. I could only imagine what nasty comments the others would throw at me if they found that out.
My thought process was soon cut short as I fell into a deep slumber.

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]
