《Strange world》Saturnalia - Part 2

***
And now — a fallen world,
The Saturn just another car, used, damaged, compromised
No longer worthy of respect, love, repair
Doomed to be severed from my life, like so much else
Today's mechanic, lively, Latin
Cheers on the end game, loudly laughing
Full party mode behind his drooping mask
Chuffed, it seems, to see me sane at last
Though the Saturn does still go, it's not quite safe
(Though . . . what is?)
Not safe — especially in Covid time
(Though ditto)
Sometimes not shifting out of park
So unpredictably immobilized
Permeable, more and more, to our unending rain
Secretly sideswiped by some plump truck
Travelling our skinny street by night
Outside mirror housing struck, broke
Left dangling sadly down
In day's grey light — fixed up by me
More than once, with thick grey metal fibre glue
Worked well enough, though not exactly elegant
And not as strong, of course, as it once was
(What is?)
So no more auto-car-wash days — turned out
The thrills of hard-pulsed water, whirling brush, hot wax
All far too muscular for hand-done fixit work —
Attacked as well by dauntless dimwit thieves
(Why this car, smallish, sensible, nothing within to steal?)
Three times by night right after husband's sudden death
Repeated brutal bashings of the locks
(Why? Why? Why now?)
'Til they destroyed them, first one, then both
Stalwart Saturn, car stayed locked, stayed true
But damaged locks became inoperable, unlockable — or,
If locked up from within, as people do, when exiting
Impenetrable from without to their own black-fobbed key
Impossible, therefore, to open, to re-enter
Except by summoned car club guys
Or smarter thieves with better skills. . . .
With Saturn shut down now
Such locks, they said, impossible to replace
So to be inside the Saturn, to drive out
Ever more problematic, ever more unsafe
(Though . . . what isn't?)
With covid era autoclub no longer "giving" rides
(A pricy paid-for gift, of course)
To stranded members , waiting all alone
By much-loved car in rain or snow while breathing,
Despite compliant garb of gloves and masks

The Infinity Islands
I was just supposed to be a normal guy! I was about to graduate from my normal university with my normal English degree, about to begin my first foray out into the real world. But somehow, I had ended up worlds away instead. Far, far away from home, in a world that should have been just like mine, running and fighting for my life in a war I didn't understand. None of us knew why or how we were there or what we were ultimately supposed to accomplish. But that didn't really matter, did it? In my new world, there was only one rule: survive! --- Hey all, I'm Ken, and this is my first time sharing a story online. This story is heavily inspired by Terror Infinity, if it wasn't obvious from the title. I've been interested in making a Terror Infinity story for a while now, but I have a lot of problems with its system and mechanics, so I decided to just make my own system instead of trying to adapt to that one. If you find any mistakes, typos, or awkward phrasing please let me know in the comments so I can fix it! I hope everyone can enjoy this story but, even if you don't, please let me know why and what you think I can do to improve. Thank you. (The original picture for the cover can be found here)

Honey, I'm home! [HIATUS]
An unusual reincarnation story. Brian finds himself alive again, but his new life is really weird. He just wants to live, though, so despite all shortcomings he'll just keep trucking along. Heavy gore warning. Also bad puns occasionally. Be warned. Releasing one chapter a week, but I can't specify the day. Busy work you know.

On the Other Side
Sappers lead the way. It was a slogan Jake had heard a million times, but he never thought it would apply to leading the way into another world. Stuck in a new universe with new rules that resemble an RPG, can this former combat engineer with poor social skills survive or even better, lead his fellow survivors to thrive? This was written contemporaneously with Now That's Entertainment, with different characters and mechanics. I've decided to post both in hopes of comparing how they do. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Post does contain harsh language, realistic depictions of violence,

Getting Hard (Journey of a Tank)
Herald Stone always built tank characters in every MMORPG he played. To be immortal—that was his first Goal, a simple childhood dream. However, the turbulent realities of life put an end to his gaming days. Years passed, and Herald Stone, now having attained success and stability, was presented with the opportunity to redeem himself...to fulfill his first Goal. Trivial? Childish? Others might think so. But Herald Stone always fulfilled his Goals—every single one. No matter what. Immortality beckoned in Mother Core Online, and this time Herald Stone would answer. Choosing a long-forgotten race, hidden away in an unknown region, the journey of an immortal tank begins. This is the tale of Herald Stone...getting hard. Schedule: Mon-Wed-Fri ~1.8k-2.3k words per chapter. Also published on Scribblehub. My other ongoing story: REND | Royal Road Expect a focus on building a true tank in MMORPGs. Heavy game elements and numbers are present. But actual math will take a backseat to strategies involving skill builds and synergies that steadily become more complex while remaining understandable. The main character is atypical in LitRPGs or web novels as a whole. He might take some getting used to. Character arcs will develop over a long period. What you see now will be different as the main character changes. The start of Getting Hard is slow-paced (more so than others of the genre) and includes world-building and character development before focusing on the LitRPG.
